Purpose: The purpose of this paper was to develop a stage-matched intervention based on the TransTheoretical Model (TTM) for elderly women with chronic back pain in the contemplation and preparation stage and evaluate its effectiveness. Methods: Fifty elderly women with chronic back pain (experimental group, n=25; control group, n=25) was recruited from elderly welfare centers. The research was a nonequivalent control group pre- posttest experimental design. The process of change for exercise, exercise decisional balance, and exercise self-efficacy were used as interventional strategies. To examine the effectiveness of this program, the dependent variables, back pain and muscle strength, were measured before, immediately after, and 4 weeks after the intervention, from May 16 to August 26, 2016. The data were analyzed with the χ² test, independent t-test, two way repeated measured ANOVA. Results: The process of change for exercise, exercise self-efficacy, and muscle strength were improved and back pain was decreased in the experimental group as compared with the control group. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that the stage-matched intervention was effective for improving the process of change for exercise, exercise self-efficacy, and muscle strength in elderly women with chronic back pain in the contemplation and preparation stage. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors related to burnout of nurses working at intensive care units. Methods: The subjects of this study included 149 nurses in intensive care units at six general hospitals. The data was analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 23.0 program with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis were used. Results: The factors significantly affecting burnout included work stress ‘high to very high’ (β=.39, p<.001), communication skill (β=-.24, p=.001), subjective health status ‘normal’ (β=.22, p=.001) and ‘bad to very bad’ (β=.20, p=.002) and problem-driven coping (β=-.19, p=.010) in order, and the explanatory power of these factors to the burnout was 46.3%. Conclusion: Based on the results, effective interventions need to be provided to improve intensive care unit nurses’ health conditions and to relieve their work stress. Purpose: This study aimed to confirm the mediating effect of social responsibility on the relationship between nurses' stress and burnout from Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in tertiary general hospitals. Methods: For this descriptive cross-sectional study, online survey data from 193 nurses in three tertiary general hospitals were analyzed. Data were collected from March 30 to April 4, 2021. The following statistical analysis were conducted: t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis, and Hayes Process Macro Model 4 (to test the mediating effect). Results: COVID-19 stress was positively associated with burnout (r=.28, p<.001) and social responsibility (r=.22, p=.002). Social responsibility was negatively associated with burnout (r=-.31, p<.001). Furthermore, the mediation analysis indicated that social responsibility mediated the relationship between COVID-19 stress and burnout. Conclusion: According to the results, the impact of COVID-19 stress on the burnout was mediated by social responsibility. Purpose: This paper presented a descriptive study which aimed to identify the relationship among menstrual attitude, premenstrual distress and premenstrual coping in Korean college women and to propose fundamental data for the development of guidelines for effective management of premenstrual distress. Methods: The data were collected from 111 college women and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficients. Results: The mean score of premenstrual coping was 3.25±0.60 out of 5 points. The 'Awareness and Acceptance of Premenstrual Change' score was highest and the 'Avoiding Harm' score was lowest. Menstrual attitude was significantly related to premenstrual distress (r=.37 p<.001) and the awareness and acceptance style of premenstrual coping (r=-.21. p=.021). And premenstrual distress was significantly related to the self-care coping style of premenstrual coping (r=.30, p=.001), the adjusting energy coping style of premenstrual coping (r=.45, p<.001) and the avoiding harm coping style of premenstrual coping (r=.48, p<.001). Conclusion: Results of this study support that positive attitude about menstruation is necessary for the effective management of premenstrual distress. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide the basic data for reinforcing community nurses’ competencies related to elder abuse by identifying their perception based on an ecological system model. Methods: This study was a descriptive study. Structured self-reported questionnaires were sent via email to Seoul community nurses from Nov. 17 to Nov. 31, 2021 and, after getting their consent, a URL survey was distributed for collecting data online. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 program by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: Total perception of elder abuse was scored at 1.32±0.46 points out of 4. Among the individual characteristics, educational level (F=4.48, p=.013) and economic level (F=4.21, p=.016) were identified as variables with significant differences in perception of developmental abuse. Subjective health status negatively correlated with perception of spiritual abuse (r=-.15, p=.048). There were no significant variables among the family characteristics. Among the socio-cultural characteristics, elderly human rights positively correlated with total perception of elder abuse (r=.16, p=.031), sociocultural abuse (r=.23, p=.003), and spiritual abuse (r=.22, p=.003). Purpose: This descriptive survey study was conducted to determine the degree of implementation of anticancer drug safety management guidelines by nurses handling anticancer drugs, safety motivation, safety control, ward safety culture, and anticancer drug safety guidelines. Methods: The subjects of this study were 136 nurses working in the designated ward for anticancer drug treatment, and data collection was conducted from November 3rd to November 16, 2021. Collected data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS statistics 28.0 program by frequency and percentage, mean and standard deviation, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Results: As a result of analyzing the effects of the subjects' knowledge of anticancer drug safety management guidelines, safety motivation, safety control, and ward safety culture on the implementation of anticancer drug safety guidelines, it was found to be knowledge of anticancer drug safety management guidelines (β=22), with 7.0% of the explanatory power. Conclusion: The factors influencing the implementation of anticancer drug safety management guidelines were found to be anticancer drug safety management guidelines, and it is suggested that follow-up studies be conducted to develop educational programs and interventions to improve anticancer drug safety guidelines. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the methodological quality of nursing studies using structural equation modeling in Korea. Methods: Databases of KISS, DBPIA, and National Assembly Library up to March 2014 were searched using the MeSH terms 'nursing', 'structure', 'model'. A total of 152 studies were screened. After removal of duplicates and non-relevant titles, 61 papers were read in full. Results: Of the sixty-one articles retrieved, 14 studies were published between 1992 and 2000, 27, between 2001 and 2010, and 20, between 2011 and March 2014. The methodological quality of the review examined varied considerably. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that more rigorous research is necessary to address theoretical identification, two indicator rule, distribution of sample, treatment of missing values, mediator effect, discriminant validity, convergent validity, post hoc model modification, equivalent models issues, and alternative models issues should be undergone. Purpose: This study was conducted to estimate the influence of knowledge of coronary artery disease (CAD) and self-efficacy on health behavior Compliance among patients with CAD. Methods: Data were collected from August 11, 2020 to April 28, 2021. In total, 159 patients with CAD participated in this study. Data were analyzed using the independent t-test, analysis of variance, Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Results: Health behavior compliance was correlated with knowledge of CAD (r=.33, p<.001) and self-efficacy (r=.71, p<.001), Multiple regression analysis found self-efficacy (β=.67, p<.001) and knowledge of coronary artery disease (β=.16, p=.004), to be statistically significant influencing factors, and the explanatory power of the model was approximately 52% (F=30.39, p<.001). Conclusion: Interventions to enhance self-efficacy and education programs to improve disease-related knowledge are essential for patients with CAD to improve their self-care health behaviors compliance. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze noise experience and response to noise by patients and nursing staff in intensive care units (ICU). Methods: This study was a cross-sectional survey based on questionnaires administered to patients and staff in ICU to analyze the perceived noise level in the ICU environment, frequency of noise experience and noise level emitted by different sources, noise induced discomfort, response to noise, and the quality of sleep. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: Regarding the frequency of experience and noise levels emitted by various sources, patients carried the maximum number of human factors, and staff carried the highest number of medical devices or medical supplies. The quality of sleep caused by noise in patients was lower. Based on the correlation between the various variables, the higher the perceived noise level in the ICU environment, the higher the response to the noise (positive correlation) and the lower the quality of sleep (negative correlation). Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, a follow-up study is suggested to compare perceived noise levels of patients and staff. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the changes of chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), sleep quality, and quality of life and their interrelationships following chemotherapy. Methods: A sample of 52 patients who had been diagnosed with stomach cancer receiving oxaliplatin containing chemotherapy were included in a prospective longitudinal study. The assessment tools were Chemotherapy-induced Peripheral Neuropathy 20, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and EORTC Quality of Life- Cancer. The data were collected at three time points: pre-chemotherapy, post-chemotherapy, and three months after the completion of chemotherapy, using questionnaires given between June 2017 and March 2019. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, repeated measures analysis of variance, and multiple regression analysis. Results: Post-chemotherapy, 19.2% of patients complained of CIPN and 21.2% exhibited CIPN at three-month follow-up. Repeated measures ANOVA showed a significant increase in CIPN after chemotherapy and it remained high at three-month follow-up (F = 39.90, p< .001). Functional quality of life (F = 8.23, p< .001) and symptom quality of life (F = 7.88, p= .001) also showed significant decreases after chemotherapy, and symptom quality of life remained low at three-month follow-up. However, for sleep quality, no significant main effect of time point was shown. CIPN and sleep quality were a factor influencing quality of life with an explanatory power of 48.3% at post-chemotherapy and 65.3% at three-month follow up. Conclusion: These results suggest that chemotherapy is highly associated with CIPN and symptoms affecting quality of life in cancer patients. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors affecting the resilience of emotional intelligence, job stress coping, and organizational socialization of nurses working in long-term care hospitals. Methods: The participants were 153 nurses working in 8 long-term care hospitals in B city. Data were collected from February. 1 to Feb. 15, 2019 SPSS/WIN 23.0 was used for analysis with t-test, ANOVA, Scheffeé test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise regression. Results: Factors influencing resilience in the participants were emotional intelligence (β=.38, p<.001), coping behavior-focusing on the positive (β=.29, p<.001), nurse motivation (β=.16, p=.006), organizational socialization (β=.17, p=.009), coping behavior-tension reduction (β=.14, p=.023). These factors contributed 54% of the total variance in resilience. Conclusion: It is necessary to study emotional intelligence and hospital nurses' coping with job stress while carrying out highly emotional activities on the job and to develop a program that can enhance the resilience of the nurses to improve psychological wellbeing and verify the effects. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the influences of health beliefs on fall prevention behavior among adult patients who had abdominal surgery. Methods: Data were collected from 136 patients who had undergone an abdominal surgery within the past 5 days. The data collection period was from September 21 to October 25, 2017. The health belief measurement tool, modified and reviewed by experts, and the fall prevention guideline developed by the Korean Nurses Association and revised by Park were used. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation and stepwise multiple regression analysis. Results: The Health Belief Model explained 45.7% of the variance in fall prevention behavior among adult patients who had abdominal surgery. Perceived susceptibility and perceived benefits had significant influence on fall-prevention behavior. Purpose: This study was done to identify the changes of cognitive function and depression following Chemotherapy in women with breast cancer. Methods: Fifty patients participated in the study and completed the questionnaire at three-time points: pre-chemotherapy, post-chemotherapy, and six months after the completion of chemotherapy. The assessment tools were: everyday cognition, the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and repeated measures analysis of variance. Results: Immediately after chemotherapy, 52.0% of patients complained of subjective cognitive decline and reported greater difficulty in the cognitive domains of attention, memory, and visuospatial abilities. At six-month follow-up, 24.0% of patients exhibited mild cognitive decline. Repeated measures ANOVA showed a significant decline in cognitive function after chemotherapy. However, improvement was observed 6 months after the completion of chemotherapy. Depression showed similar patterns to cognitive function. Higher cognitive decline scores were significantly correlated with higher depression (r=.33, p=.020). Conclusion: These results suggest that chemotherapy is highly associated with cognitive decline and depression in women with breast cancer. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors associated with the supportive care needs of gynecologic cancer patients, and to provide basic data for patient-centered care. Methods: The data were collected from 153 patients with ovarian/cervix/uterine cancer in 2016. For the data collection, the Korean version of the Supportive Care Needs Scale-gyne and electronic charts were used. T-test, one-way ANOVA, and logistic regression were used to analyze the data. Results: The standardized scores for the supportive care needs of patients ranged from 19.45 to 35.66. The supportive care need in the psychological domain was the highest, followed by the emotional, physical, and information domains. The ten highest frequency items consisted of 5 items in information, 3 in psychological, 1 item each in the emotional and spiritual domain. Patients under 45 years old have more fear about treatment and disability, and uncertainty about their future. College graduates had higher needs for information about support groups and self-care. Patients with recurrence felt more bored and meaningless. Conclusion: Patients with gynecologic cancer have various supportive care needs according to their characteristics. In order to fulfil their needs, a more intensive and patient-centered individualized approach based on the patient's characteristics should be introduced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate e-health literacy and self-care agency of nursing students and non-health department women college students. Methods: A descriptive comparative design was used. Participants were 67 nursing students and 67 non-health department women college students between 18 and 25 years old from a university located in Seoul. Data collection was done from September 2 to October 5, 2016 using structured questionnaires. Data were analyzed using independent t-test, א² test, ANCOVA, ANOVA, Scheffé test, and Pearson's correlation coefficients with SPSS 23.0. Results: e-Health literacy had significant difference (F=1.95, p<.018) between nursing students and non-health department women college students. However, self-care agency was not significantly different (F=1.05, p=.426). There were significant positive correlation (r=.63, p<.001) in e-health literacy and self-care agency of nursing students. Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between handwashing knowledge and handwashing compliance in nursing students and to identify the moderation and mediation effects of self-efficacy and perceived behavioral control on the relationship. Methods: The participants were 172 nursing college students who completed the self-report measures. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient, Multiple regression analysis was used to test moderation and mediation effects. Results: The score for knowledge of handwashing was higher in participants who had completed fundamentals of nursing practicum (t=-6.54, p<.001) and the score for compliance with handwashing was higher in participants who had completed clinical practicum (t=-3.81, p<.001) or fundamentals of nursing practicum (t=-5.97, p<.001). Self-efficacy showed a significant moderation effect (z=2.21, p=.027) but not a mediation effect while perceived behavioral control had a significant mediation effect but not a moderation effect on the relationship between knowledge of handwashing and compliance. Conclusion: Findings indicate that clinical practicum and fundamentals of nursing practicum were helpful to nursing students in acquiring knowledge and in practicing proper handwashing technique. These findings suggest that continuing and repetitive education programs on handwashing need to be enhanced and strategies to strengthen self-efficacy and perceived behavioral control need to be included in education programs. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the impact of fatigue and distress on self-efficacy among breast cancer survivors and to provide a base for development of nursing intervention strategy to improve self-efficacy. Methods: A descriptive research design was used. The subjects were 158 patients who were either being treated or were receiving follow-up care at a university breast center in D City from May 30 to August 30, 2014. Structured questionnaires, Revised Piper Fatigue Scale, Distress Thermometer, and Self-Efficacy Scale for Self-Management of Breast Cancer were used to measure fatigue, distress, and self-efficacy. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, and multiple regressions. Results: The mean scores of fatigue, distress, and self-efficacy were 3.83, 4.31, and 3.77, respectively. There were significant differences among participants in terms of educational background, current treatment methods, perceived health status, economic burden for fatigue and perceived health status for distress. Self-efficacy was impacted by age, educational background, marital status, average monthly income, perceived health status, and medical expenses. Fatigue, age, and the burden on medical expense had the most impact on self-efficacy, accounting for 17% of the variance. Conclusion: Fatigue should be managed to improve self-efficacy of breast cancer survivors. Therefore, nursing programs designed to decrease fatigue may be helpful. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine effects of patient safety culture and burnout on safety management activities with a focus on clinical experience of nurses in general hospitals. Methods: Self-administered questionnaires were given to nurses in a general hospital in C Province, and 107 questionnaires were used for final analysis. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 21.0 Program for t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression. Results: The highest score as perceived by general hospital nurses for patient safety culture was for ‘Immediate superior/Manager’(3.84), for burnout, the highest score was for ‘Emotional exhaustion’ (4.13), and for safety management activities, the highest score was for ‘Prevention of infection’ (3.96). Patient safety culture and safety management activities perceived by general hospital nurses showed significant positive correlations (r=.35 p<.001). The correlations between burnout and safety management activities perceived by the nurses showed significant negative correlations (r=-.37, p<.001). Results of hierarchical regression analysis conducted to identify factors that affect safety management activities showed that patient safety culture (β=.40 p<.001) was effective for controlling safety management activities. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that influence healthcare providers’ attitude towards end-of-life care (EOLC) in the emergency department (ED) in hospital settings. Methods: From June 1 through June 30, 2014, a descriptive correlational study was performed with 41 doctors and 105 nurses stationed in the ED. Results: According to a regression model on the factors affecting healthcare providers’ professional attitude towards EOLC, 28.1% of variance (F=15.185, P=0.000) was explained by awareness of death, gender and personal attitude towards EOLC. And 34.1% of the healthcare providers’ personal attitude was related with awareness of death, experience of hospice education, occupations and professional attitude towards EOLC. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that attitude towards EOLC was influenced by awareness of death and personal characteristics. Healthcare providers in the ED should be provided with tailored training to improve their understanding of death. Purpose: This study was aimed to compare the effect between wet gauze with cold normal saline and wet gauze with cold water on thirst, oral cavity condition, and saliva pH among postoperative patients. Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental study with 56 participants. The experimental group received wet gauze with cold normal saline, and control group received wet gauze with cold water for three times at 15 minute intervals. Data were collected using visual analog scale for thirst, oral assessment guide for oral cavity condition and acidity tape for saliva pH. Measurement were made before applying the gauze and at 15min, 30min, and 45min after applying gauze. Data were analyzed using repeated measured ANOVA. Results: Thirst, oral cavity condition, and saliva pH improved in both groups with increasing number of gauze application. Thirst for the experimental group improved more than for the control group (F=4.29, p=.009), oral cavity condition except saliva, and saliva pH were not significantly different between the groups. Conclusion: This study results indicated that nurses can apply wet gauze with cold normal saline to reduce thirst and saliva acidity, and to improve the oral cavity condition for postoperative patients. Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine whether job-seeking stress, career decision-making self-efficacy, self-esteem, and academic achievement had an influence on nursing students' happiness. Methods: The participants were 147 nursing students in D city. Data were collected with a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 19.0 using ANOVA, t-test, Pearson correlation, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Factors that had an influence on happiness included major satisfaction(highly unsatisfied β=-.251, p =.001), average monthly family income(between four and six million won β=.222, p=.002), career decision-making self-efficacy(β=.198, p=.010), major satisfaction(satisfied β=.196, p=.006), and subjective health(unhealthy β =-.167, p=.020). These factors explained 33.5% of the variance in student happiness. Conclusion: The results of this study reveal that career decision-making self-efficacy, self-esteem, major satisfaction, and job-seeking stress were important intrinsic factors in the happiness of nursing students. Thus, it is necessary to help these students attain more self-efficacy, self-esteem, and major satisfaction rather than focusing on academic achievement in order to increase their happiness. Purpose: The objective of this study was to examine patient safety culture (PSC) and patient safety initiatives (PSI) according to IT-based medication errors prevention system which is constructed in this study, and to identify the relationships among system construction, perception to the usage, PSC and PSI. Methods: The subjects were 180 nurses who work at 12 different hospitals with over 300 beds. The questionnaire included the characteristics of participants, a system construction status, the perception to the usage using electric pharmacopoeia (EP), a drug dose calculation system (DDCS), a patient safety reporting system (PSRS) and a bar-code system (BS). The data were collected from July 2011 to August 2011. Descriptive statistics, ANOVA, Pearson correlation and MANOVA were used for data analysis. Results: Systems were constructed in participating hospitals; For EP and PSRS, 83.9%, DDCS, 50%, and BS, 18.3%. The perceptions on the usage of the system were marked highest in BS as 4.54 followed by EP as 3.85. There were significant positive correlations between PSI and EP construction (r=.17, p=.028); PSRS (r=.17, p=.028) and DDCS (r=.23, p=.002). Conclusion: The developed system for improving the user experiences and reducing medication errors was found out well accepted. Purpose: This descriptive correlational study was designed to examine the relationship of perfectionism to anger thought and problem behaviors. In addition, the mediating effect of anger thought in relation to perfectionism and problem behaviors was investigated. Methods: Data were collected from 807 students in a girls' high school, and descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and hierachical multiple regression were used with SPSS/PC 18.0 program to analyze the data. Results: There were significant differences in anger thought (primary and secondary angerthought) and problem behaviors between the upper 25% and lower 25% group for perfectionism. Primary and secondary anger-thought had a significant mediating effect in relation to perfectionism and problem behaviors. Conclusion: For effective management and prevention of adolescent women's problem behaviors, programs including perfectionism and anger thought should be developed. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among turnover intention, emotional labor, and communication competence in nurses. Methods: The participants for this study were 297 nurses from three general hospitals in two local cites in Korea. Data were collected by self-administered questionnaires from August 26 to September 10, 2013 and analyzed using descriptive statistics, One-way ANOVA, t-test, Pearson Correlation, Stepwise Multiple Regression with the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Results: The average scores for turnover intention, emotional labor, and communication competence respectively, were 3.45, 3.08, and 3.44 out of 5. The novices recognized that their emotional labor and turnover intention were significantly higher, and their communication competence was lower than other nurses. Nurses' turnover intention had a positive relationship with their emotional labor, but no relationship with communication competence. Job satisfaction, frequency of emotional expression, and emotional dissonance had an effect on nurses' turnover intention. Conclusion: The results show that emotional labor and job satisfaction are very important factors affecting nurses' turnover intention. So, nurse managers should try to minimize nurses' emotional labor and maximize their job satisfaction by developing various human relationship educational and support programs and using them. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the factors contributing to health-related quality of life (HRQOL) among patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB). Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive design was used. The sample included 114 patients in a gastroenterology outpatient department at one hospital located in G city. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire from June to December 2009. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 15.0. Results: Health-related quality of life was most strongly related to age, sex, income, occupation, and the care provider. Old age, female gender, lower income, not having an occupation and having a non-medical person were associated with lower HRQOL (R² =.03~.22, p=.041~<.001). Conclusion: CHB infection had a negative impact on HRQOL among the older, female gender, low socioeconomic status and not having medically knowledgeable care givers. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors influencing the health-promoting behaviors of the people living with HIV. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study design was used. The study participants included 99 people living with HIV recruited via the Korea HIV/AIDS Network of Solidarity from May 15 to August 15, 2012. Self-report questionnaires were used fo data collection measuring perceived stress, depression, self-efficacy, health-promoting behaviors (HPLP-II), and the perceived health status. The analysis was done using SPSS/Win 18.0 program. Descriptive statistics, pearson correlation, t-test, ANOVA and stepwise multiple regressions were used for data analysis. Results: Perceived stress (r=-.21, p=.040), depression (r=-.37, p<.001), self-efficacy (r=.42, p<.001), perceived health status (r=.29, p=.003), and health-promoting behaviors were significantly correlated with each other. The self-efficacy, religion and perceived health status were significant factors, which explained about 26% of the variance of the health-promoting behaviors. Multiple regression analysis showed that a powerful predictor of health-promoting behaviors among people living with HIV was self-efficacy. Conclusion: This study suggested that a focus of nursing intervention program on self-efficacy is necessary in order to increase health-promoting behaviors among people living with HIV. Purpose: Despite the importance of selecting students whom are capable for medical education and to become a good doctor, not enough studies have been done in the category. This study focused on analysing the medical students' academic performance (grade point average, GPA) differences, flunk and dropout rates by admission types. Methods: From 2004 to 2010, we gathered 369 Konyang University College of Medicine's students admission data and analyzed the differences between admission method and academic achievement, differences in failure and dropout rates. Analysis of variance (ANOVA), ordinary least square, and logistic regression were used. Results: The rolling students showed higher academic achievement from year 1 to 3 than regular students (p<0.01). Using admission type variable as control variable in multiple regression model similar results were shown. But unlike the results of ANOVA, GPA differences by admission types were shown not only in lower academic years but also in year 6 (p<0.01). From the regression analysis of flunk and dropout rate by admission types, regular admission type students showed higher drop out rate than the rolling ones which demonstrates admission types gives significant effect on flunk or dropout rates in medical students (p<0.01). Conclusion: The rolling admissions type students tend to show lower flunk rate and dropout rates and perform better academically. This implies selecting students primarily by Korean College Scholastic Ability Test does not guarantee their academic success in medical education. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify aging anxiety and influencing factors of middle-aged adults. Methods: Descriptive correlation design was used. Three hundred and three middle-aged adults participated in the study and completed the questionnaires in the period from September 11 to October 15 of 2011. The data was analyzed using independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and hier-archial multiple regression analysis. Results: Aging anxiety of middle-aged adults was higher than a moderate level. Socio-demographic variables such as age, religion, education, economic level, perceived health status and experience of living with older adults influenced significantly on aging anxiety. In contrast, general self-efficacy, aging knowledge and attitude toward older adults were negatively correlated with aging anxiety. Hierarchial multiple regression analysis incorporating these variables showed an explanation rate of aging anxiety at 21%. And religion, perceived health status, attitude toward older adults, and general self-efficacy were statistically significant among variables that influence on aging anxiety. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that senior preparation programs that can enhance self-efficacy, induce positive attitude on older adults and promote health should be implemented to reduce aging anxiety of middle-aged adults. Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effects of bed side exercising on back pain and bleeding during absolute bed rest in patients who had received transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE). Methods: A non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. A total 46 patients were sampled from a gastrointestinal unit of a urban general hospital in Seoul. The control group received 8 hours of bed rest and conservative care. The experimental group received 8 hours of bed rest and bed side exercising every one hour from the time having absolute bed rest for 3 hours after TACE. Results: The experimental group with bed side exercising experienced significantly less back pain compared to the control group. There was no significant difference in the incidence of bleeding complications between two groups. Conclusion: The results indicate that a bed side exercising is associated with a reduction of back pain and with no increased risk of bleeding complications in patients after TACE. Purpose: This study examined the use of the Tucker linear equating method in producing an individual student's score in 3 groups with bridging stations over 3 consecutive days of the clinical performance examination (CPX) and compared the differences in scoring patterns by bridging number. Methods: Data were drawn from 88 examinees from 3 different CPX groups--DAY1, DAY2, and DAY3--each of which comprised of 6 stations. Each group had 3 common stations, and each group had 2 or 3 stations that differed from other groups. DAY1 and DAY3 were equated to DAY2. Equated mean scores and standard deviations were compared with the originals. DAY1 and DAY3 were equated again, and the differences in scores (equated score-raw score) were compared between the 3 sets of equated scores. Results: By equating to DAY2, DAY1 decreased in mean score from 58.188 to 56.549 and in standard deviation from 4.991 to 5.046, and DAY3 fell in mean score from 58.351 to 58.057 and in standard deviation from 5.546 to 5.856, which demonstrates that the scores of examinees in DAY1 and DAY2 were accentuated after use of the equation. The patterns in score differences between the equated sets to DAY1, DAY2, and DAY3 yielded information on the soundness of the equating results from individual and overall comparisons. Conclusion: To generate equated scores between 3 groups on 3 consecutive days of the CPX, we applied the Tucker linear equating method.
