Purpose: This study investigated how interprofessional education (IPE) related to medication for undergraduate healthcare students, including nursing students, has been designed and conducted. Furthermore, the outcomes of these IPE programs were evaluated. Methods: A scoping review was performed to understand the content and methods of IPE on medication for undergraduate healthcare students, including nursing students. A literature search was done using PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Embase, Research Information Sharing Service, and Korean Nursing Database in English between January 2000 and December 2022. In total, 14 papers were selected and reviewed. Results: Eleven research studies were conducted on the implementation of one-time IPE on medication safety or errors. Among them, six studies focused on providing IPE to nursing students alongside medical and pharmacy students, while three studies targeted nursing and medical students, and two studies focused on nursing and pharmacy students. The most commonly employed educational method was simulation, which was utilized in 12 studies. All studies consistently reported a positive impact on attitudes toward IPE and effective communication. Additionally, five studies evaluating medication knowledge reported improvements in participants’ understanding of drugs. Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate senior baccalaureate nursing students' knowledge and visual differentiation ability for the pressure injury classification system (PICS) and incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD). Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted using a paper-based questionnaire with 120 senior baccalaureate nursing students in South Korea. Data were collected using a knowledge test (KT) and a visual differentiation tool (VDT) based on 21 photographs with clinical information related to PICS and IAD. Results: Students had relatively high KT scores (62.6%), and low VDT scores (35.6%). Critical issues in this study were nursing students' lack of an adequate visual differentiation ability to accurately assess the stage of pressure injury and IAD and their higher level of confusion in identifying unstageable, deep tissue injuries, and IAD compared to stage 1-4 injuries. Satisfaction with education (r=.20, p<.05) and exposure to various teaching methods (r=.21, p<.05) exhibited significant correlations with higher VDT scores. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that increasing students' satisfaction with their education and applying various teaching methods can contribute to the improvement of visual differentiation ability in PICS. Purpose: Autologous osteochondral transplantation (AOT) is indicated for patients with a large osteochondral lesion of the talus (OLT), accompanying subchondral cyst, and the failure of bone marrow stimulation (BMS) procedures. Despite the many reports on the clinical results of surgical treatment for medial osteochondral lesions, those of lateral lesions are rare. This paper reports the intermediate-term clinical outcomes after AOT for lateral OLTs. Materials and Methods: Twenty-one patients with lateral OLTs were followed up for at least three years after AOT. The clinical evaluations comprised the Foot and Ankle Outcome Score (FAOS) and Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (FAAM). The radiographic assessment included the irregularity of the articular surface (subchondral plate), the progression of degenerative arthritis, and the changes in talar tilt angle and anterior talar translation. Results: The mean FAOS and FAAM scores improved significantly from 42.1 to 89.5 and 39.5 to 90.6 points, respectively, at the final follow-up (p<0.001). The radiological evaluation revealed two cases (9.5%) of articular step-off ≥2 mm and 1 case (4.8%) of progressive arthritis. The mean talar tilt angle and anterior talar translation improved significantly. As postoperative complications, there was one case of a local wound problem, one case of superficial peroneal nerve injury, and one case of donor site morbidity. At a mean follow-up of 62.3 months, no patient showed a recurrence of instability or required reoperation for OLT. Conclusion: AOT for the lateral OLTs demonstrated satisfactory intermediate-term clinical outcomes, including daily and sports activity abilities. Most OLT could be accessed through lateral ligament division and capsulotomy, and the incidence of iatrogenic complications, such as recurrent sprains or chronic instability, was minimal. AOT appears to be an effective and relatively safe treatment for patients with large lateral osteochondral lesions unresponsive to conservative therapy, with subchondral cysts, or with failed primary BMS. Purpose: This study was done to analyze research articles and explore research trends in auriculotherapy between 2010 and 2019 in Korean academic journals. Methods: Domestic databases including KMbase, RISS, KISS, and NDSL were searched for studies published between 2010 and 2019. Research trends were analyzed according to The STandards Reporting Interventions in Clinical Trials of Acupuncture (STRICTA) guidelines including research design, control group type, and intervention details from a total of 78 domestic papers. Descriptive statistics were analyzed by frequency and percentage. Results: Most studies were conducted in nursing. Regarding research design, a quasi-experimental design with a no-treatment control group was most common. There were 12 conditions with 4 participant categories. The most common intervention was four-point acupuncture-buried therapy. Interventions conducted weekly with cessation of 2 days for 6 weeks were popular. Regarding dropouts, few studies reported side-effects, with personal reasons being the most frequently reported. However, 50% of the studies failed to provide adequate information regarding intervention details according to the STRICTA guidelines, such as the practitioner background, ear point used for intervention, and a flow diagram. Conclusion: Interventional studies on auriculotherapy have been steadily increasing and have included more diversified conditions. Background: The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), a validated screening tool for prenatal and postnatal depression, was included as a reimbursable item by the National Health Insurance Service of Korea in 2020. However, multiple Korean versions of the EPDS are used for public health programs and research. This study aimed to summarize the use of this scale in Korea and evaluate the distribution of validities, depression scores, and prevalence of depression according to Korean versions of the EPDS. Methods: Korean versions of the EPDS most frequently used in public health policies and programs were summarized through internet searches using snowball strategy. A systematic literature review was conducted to evaluate the prenatal and postnatal depression scores and prevalence of depression measured using different Korean versions of the scale. Results: We identified four Korean versions of the EPDS that are commonly used in public health programs and research. Among them, published evidence regarding validity and reliability was available for two versions. A review of 19 papers that assessed prenatal and postnatal depression using these versions showed large heterogeneity in scores and the prevalence of depression. Conclusion: When measuring prenatal and postnatal depression using the EPDS, characteristics of the scale must be considered when interpreting results. A standardized Korean version of the EPDS needs to be developed by comparing the validity and reliability of different Korean versions. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the current status of research related to evidence-based nursing and to suggest directions for the future of evidence-based nursing practice, education and research. Methods: A search was done of 20 research publications, including domestic nursing journals, nursing master's theses and doctoral dissertations before November 2016. Finally, 183 studies were selected. The selected papers were analyzed using descriptive statistics and א² test with the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Results: Most of papers examined in this study were journal articles (80.9%). Meta-analysis (35.0%) was the most common study design. Methodological characteristics were as follows: before 2010 about 5% were documents that suggested Priori' design, generation of PICO, search strategy, quality assessment and description of quality assessment outcome, but after 2011, these designs increased to 30.8%, 73.1%, 41.0%, 91.0% and 65.4%, respectively. The most frequent topics for evidence- based nursing implementation were evidence-based nursing readiness (16 papers). Highest frequency topics in systematic reviews and meta-analysis were studies that confirmed the intervention effect of exercise programs. The highest frequency topics in guideline were temperature control. Purpose: This study was done to identify trends in leadership-related research by reviewing studies on hospital nurses in South Korea. Methods: The research was conducted from April 2 to 14, 2018 and search databases were RISS, KISS, DBpia, KM base, NAL, and NDSL. Search terms were 'leadership' and 'nursing' in the Korean language, and total 141 papers were selected. Results: Analysis of the research on leadership showed that 96.4% of research methods were quantitative research, and 60.3% were predictive researches. For study settings, 46.2% were general hospitals, 96.5% were staff nurses. In the study of leadership variables, 60.3% were independent variables and recent leadership was used as a mediating variable (4.3%) and a moderating variable (2.8%). Among the leadership types, self-leadership (31.2%) was the most common, and the main variable related to leadership was job satisfaction (25.8%). Conclusion: These results provide useful data for deriving new research ideas about nursing leadership. Furthermore, this study has significance for providing the evidence for developing new leadership programs and policies in nursing organizations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the trend of nursing theories by Korean Journal of Adult Nursing (KJAN) for the last five years and to provide future directions for improvement. Methods: The study analyzed data collected from 323 research papers published in KJAN between 2010~2014. Descriptive analysis was conducted with a focus on frequency and percentage for the quantitative analysis. Qualitative analysis was performed for the analysis of nursing theories. Results: As for research topics, the analysis results based on the meta-paradigm of nursing show that the most frequent factors of analysis were adult patients in the area of human beings, hospitals in the area of environment, depression, anxiety, and suicide in the area of health, and all the influential factors in the area of nursing. The analysis results of uses of nursing theories in the papers reveal that only 4(1.2%) out of total 323 papers used the nursing theories, which indicates that the linkage and utilization of nursing theories in the published papers for the last five years were poor. Conclusion: We needs to make efforts at the society level to activate nursing theory utilization in research which is beloved to connect nursing practice, education, and research. Purpose: This study performed an integrated review based on Roy's adaptation modes of physiological-physical and psycho-social integration to identify health problems and measure health management of child and adolescent cancer survivors. Methods: Based on 'Whittemore and Knafl's stages' of an integrative review process (problem identification, literature search, data evaluation, data analysis, and presentation of the results), six databases (Google Scholar, CINAHL, PubMed, RISS, KISS, and DBpia) were used to retrieve relevant articles. A total of 992 variables were collected from 14 studies published between 2011 and 2023. Results: Three thematic categories were identified: physiological-physical and psycho-social health problems (fatigue, diminished physical activity, physical sequela, sleep disorders, endocrine problems, bullying, and prejudice), daily self care management(lifestyles integrating health promotion, adaptation processes, and self-care), and preventive health management(utilization of health checkups and screening tests). Conclusion: Nursing interventions that can result in a healthy lifestyle for child and adolescent cancer survivors should be further examined at the individual, community, and national levels. Purpose : This study aimed to determine the mortality rate among elderly patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) for acute drug intoxication resulting from suicide attempts. It also compared the characteristics of survivors and decedents to identify factors associated with mortality. Methods : This retrospective descriptive study included 150 patients aged 65 years or older who were admitted to the ICU of a tertiary university hospital in Gwangju due to acute drug intoxication, with the period spanning January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2020. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, Chi-squared tests, Fisher's exact test, and multiple logistic regression analysis. Results : The mortality rate among elderly individuals admitted to the ICU for acute drug intoxication was 19.3%. The likelihood of death was significantly higher in patients with an acute physiology and chronic health examination (APACHE) III score of 70 or above (OR=23.75, 95% CI= 3.78-149.46, p < .001) and those with metabolic acidosis on initial acid-base results (OR=3.73, 95% CI=1.12- 12.43, p=.032). Conclusion : These findings underscore the need for developing and implementing systematic education and targeted nursing interventions for ICU nurses caring for acutely drug-intoxicated elderly adults, particularly considering the APACHE III score and the presence of metabolic acidosis. Purpose: This prospective study was conducted to determine the incidence and related characteristics of respiratory medical device-related pressure ulcers (MDRPU) in children admitted to a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). Methods: The participants were 184 children who were admitted to the PICU of P University Hospital from April 2016 to January 2017. Data were collected on the occurrence of respiratory MDRPU and characteristics regarding the application of respiratory medical devices. Results: Respiratory MDRPU occurred in 11.9% of participants (58.3%: stage I ulcers, 37.5%: mucosal ulcers). The devices associated with respiratory MDRPU were endotracheal tubes (54.2%), high-flow nasal cannulas (37.5%), and oximetry probes (8.3%). Respiratory MDRPU associated with an endotracheal tube were significant differences according to the site and strength of fixation, the use of a bite block and adhesive tape, skin dryness, and edema. In high-flow nasal cannulas, significant differences were found according to the site of fixation, immobility after fixation, and skin dryness. Conclusion: The occurrence of respiratory MDRPU is significantly affected by the method and strength of fixation, as well as skin dryness and edema. Therefore, appropriate consideration of these factors in nursing care can help prevent respiratory MDRPU. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This study was conducted to analyze research on reflection in Korean nursing, and suggest future directions for effective application of reflective practice in Korean nursing education and practice. Methods: A review was performed using domestic databases including RISS, KISS, DBpia, and NDSL. Twenty-three papers were analyzed according to general characteristics, key variables regarding reflection, and findings regarding reflection. Results: Reflection in nursing research has received attention since 2005, generating almost half the publications in the last 3 years. Key variables regarding reflection were classified into reflection-related general term (34.7%), reflective action (8.6%), and reflection writing method (56.7%). Findings regarding reflection were categorized into correlation of reflection with other variables (26.1%), learning evaluation using a reflective journal (22.2%), effects of applying reflection as an intervention (47.4%), and Korean Self-Reflection and Insight Scale validation (4.3%). Conclusion: Results indicate that reflection or reflective practice is an important component in integrating theories to practice, and that reflective practice is a prerequisite to becoming a professional nurse as well as a crucial tool for ideal changes in nursing. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the impact of maternal parenting anxiety on young children’s emotional intelligence, as well as the mediating effect of father-child interaction on their relationship. To achieve this, we examined how maternal parenting anxiety is perceived in father-child interaction and elucidated the pathway leading to young children’s emotional intelligence. Methods: The study participants included 372 pairs of mothers and fathers of five-year-old children enrolled in 50 daycare centers located in Seoul and metropolitan areas, and 81 daycare teachers. For data analysis, descriptive statistics and correlation analysis were conducted using SPSS 23.0. The PROCESS macro version 3.4 was used to verify the mediating effect. Results: Firstly, maternal parenting anxiety did not directly affect the children’s emotional intelligence. Second, father-child interaction mediated the relationship between maternal parenting anxiety and children’s emotional intelligence. Based on these results, it was found that low levels of maternal parenting anxiety can induce high levels of children’s emotional intelligence through father-child interaction. Conclusion: Based on these results, it is necessary develop a plan to promote healthy functioning of the mother-father variables influencing young children’s emotional intelligence. In particular, father-child interaction was found to significantly affect children’s emotional intelligence. This indicates that it is possible to alleviate maternal parenting anxiety and enhance positive father-child interaction by improving healthy parenting values and skills and establishing common child-rearing goals. Purpose: Aging societies worldwide face the significant challenge of retaining skilled personal care workers (PCWs). In September 2017, the South Korean government launched a financial incentive program, offering a long-service allowance (LSA) to PCWs in nursing homes. This allowance is designated for those who have consistently worked over 120 hours per month for over 36 months. This study evaluates the impact of this publicly funded LSA on the job tenure of PCWs in nursing homes, using claim data from the National Health Insurance Service. Methods: Utilizing a difference-in-difference approach, this research compares the tenure changes among LSA-eligible and non-eligible PCWs before and after the implementation of the LSA. It analyzes 2,095,503 cases from January 2016 to April 2019, employing regression-based panel data analysis. Results: Despite a general trend of decreasing PCWs’ job tenure and rising minimum wages, the LSA seems to affect LSA-eligible PCWs’ tenure positively. After adjusting for socio-demographic, job-related, and organizational factors, the study found that the tenure of LSA-eligible PCWs extended by 85 days within the 20-month observation period, in contrast to a decrease among their non-eligible counterparts. Conclusion: The LSA is considered to be effective in retaining mid-level PCWs, indicating its potential as a measure for workforce retention. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors related to burnout of nurses working at intensive care units. Methods: The subjects of this study included 149 nurses in intensive care units at six general hospitals. The data was analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 23.0 program with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis were used. Results: The factors significantly affecting burnout included work stress ‘high to very high’ (β=.39, p<.001), communication skill (β=-.24, p=.001), subjective health status ‘normal’ (β=.22, p=.001) and ‘bad to very bad’ (β=.20, p=.002) and problem-driven coping (β=-.19, p=.010) in order, and the explanatory power of these factors to the burnout was 46.3%. Conclusion: Based on the results, effective interventions need to be provided to improve intensive care unit nurses’ health conditions and to relieve their work stress. Background: As female social participation increases, the importance of femininity in leadership also increases. In Korea in 2021, 26.8% of 132,013 doctors and 35.1% of 3,099 medical students were female. However, no research has been conducted on the gender demographics of medical leaders. This study aims to define Korean medical leadership, investigate the gender ratio, and determine whether the proportion of women leaders differs in the academic and non-academic worlds. Methods: Korean medical leaders were defined as those in director or higher-level positions in organizations affiliated with the Korean Medical Association, 34 organizing societies under the Korean Academy of Medical Sciences (KAMS), and those who held dean and vice dean positions in 40 medical schools. Academic societies comprised KAMS, KAMS-affiliated societies, and medical schools; the rest were classified as non-academic organizations. Data were collected through website, e-mail, or telephonic surveys. Differences in the number of women leaders between academics and non-academics were analyzed using the chi-square test. Results: In total, 1,863 medical leaders were evaluated, with females accounting for 12.6%. The difference in the ratio of female leaders between academic and non-academic societies was not statistically significant (13.1% academic vs. 11.8% non-academic; P=0.445). Conclusion: The proportion of women leaders in the Korean medical field is relatively low compared with that of female doctors and medical students. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of group education reflecting unmet needs led by Nurse Practitioners (NPs) on essential knowledge regarding chemotherapy for cancer patients and their families undergoing chemotherapy. Methods: Conducted at a tertiary general hospital in Seoul from December 30, 2020, to April 30, 2022, this study, which is based on a one group pre-post design, involved 104 cancer patients and their families. It assessed differences in knowledge regarding chemotherapy and satisfaction levels by means of participation through video-based group education led by NPs. The data were analyzed with SAS version 9.4 using paired t-tests and multiple logistic regression analysis. Results: The average score of knowledge regarding chemotherapy increased from 80.0 to 89.8 (p<.001). In multivariable logistic regression analysis, being less than 50 years old (adjusted Odds Ratio [aOR]=13.56, 95% Confidence Interval [CI]: 1.76~10.20) and having a college degree or higher (aOR=3.99, 95% CI: 1.15~13.82) were associated with an increase in knowledge regarding chemotherapy. Satisfaction with participation in the group education program was also reported to be high. Conclusion: This study aimed to develop and implement a group education program for cancer patients and their families undergoing chemotherapy, assess changes in knowledge levels, and investigate satisfaction with the program. As a result of the study, the average score of patients who received the group education program increased; thus, it is an effective method for improving the degree of knowledge about the daily life of cancer patients and the management of side effects. Purpose: Cancer patients need ongoing care from healthcare providers to maintain continuity of treatment. Much research has been conducted on digital health services for providing continuous management of discharged cancer patients. This review aimed to identify nurse-led digital health interventions for discharged cancer patients. Methods: This scoping review was conducted using JBI methodology. The population was post-discharge adult cancer patients, the concept was nurse-led digital health intervention, and the context was open. Databases including PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, KoreaMed, and RISS were searched. Data were summarized about the general characteristics of the article, participants, interventions, and outcomes. Results: Fifty-seven studies were included, with ten studies that focused on the elderly. One third of the participants included in this review had colorectal cancer (32.7%). Telephone was the most frequently used format, while the others were applications, the internet, and telemonitor- ing. The nurses' main roles consisted of counseling, symptom monitoring, and education. Conclusion: The development of nurse-led digital health intervention for the elderly will be necessary, and studies using more diverse technologies will need to be conduct- ed. Digital health interventions for post-discharge colorectal cancer patients could be applied in practice. Nurses should provide emotional support while providing digital health interventions. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analysis the manuscripts rejected for publication in the Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing Administration during the last three years six months (2012~2015 Jun). Methods: Seventy eight rejected manuscripts were analyzed focusing on manuscripts characteristics, such as rejection rates, year of submission, occupation of first author and corresponding author, number of authors, funding, thesis or dissertation, article type, study participants, number of reviews prior to rejection, and 3rd reviewer. Also reviewers' quantitative evaluation scores and subjective comments were analyzed. Reviewers' subjective comments were analyzed using content analysis methodology. Results: The mean rate for manuscript rejection was 28.9% and for quantitative research, qualitative research, and review papers the quantitative evaluation scores were 2.54±0.70, 2.39±0.69, and 2.39±0.69 out of 5 points, respectively. The most frequent subjective comment on rejected manuscripts was ‘lack of rationale for research need'. Conclusion: In this study the characteristics and the reasons for rejecting manuscripts were identified. These findings can be used in developing effective strategies for researchers, reviewers and editors to improve the quality of research and research reviews of nursing administration research. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify trends in nursing research on children and adolescents with cancer in Korea and suggest the direction for future research. Methods: A COSI model was used to guide the search process between the years 1988 and 2014, using the keywords ‘cancer', ‘malignancy', ‘leukemia’, ‘HSCT', ‘BMT', ‘children', ‘adolescent' and ‘nursing'. Results: Of 104 papers, 10 were doctoral dissertations, 34 were master's theses and 60 were from academic journals. Quantitative research accounted for 91.3% while qualitative research accounted for 7.7%. The most frequently used research designs were quasi-experimental (84.6%) for experimental research and surveys (75.6%) for non-experimental research. As survival rates improved, the focus shifted to descriptive studies examining the adjustment of childhood cancer survivors. Conclusion: The overall findings of this study suggest that future research should include more well-designed experimental studies and repeated studies to confirm the effect of previous study findings. Longitudinal studies are recommended to determine long-term child adjustment. Supporting systems and funding are required to help activate research of clinical nurses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The awareness of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC) and BRCA testing is increasing in Korea. Compared to the sizable research on HBOC knowledge among breast cancer women, studies in the ovarian cancer population are limited. This paper aimed to investigate the level of knowledge of hereditary ovarian cancer and anxiety in women diagnosed with serous ovarian cancer in Korea and determine differences in the knowledge and anxiety according to whether genetic testing was undertaken and whether BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations were present. Methods: Using a descriptive research design, a cross-sectional survey was conducted on 100 women diagnosed with serous ovarian cancer at N hospital in Gyeonggi-do, Korea, from July to November 2018. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, independent f-tests, one-way analysis of variance, and Pearson's correlation coefficient using the SPSS 21.0 program. Results: The hereditary ovarian cancer-related knowledge score was mid-level (mean score 8.90±3.29 out of a total of 17), as was the state anxiety level was mid-level (mean score 47.96±3.26 out of possible score range of 20-80). Genetic knowledge of hereditary ovarian cancer was associated with age, education, occupation, genetic counseling, and BRCA mutations. There were no statistically significant factors related to anxiety and there were no statistically significant correlations between knowledge level and anxiety. Conclusion: More comprehensive education on gene-related cancer is needed for ovarian cancer patients, especially for items with low knowledge scores. Purpose: The study aim was to examine Korean TV documentaries featuring nurses and to understand how the image of nurses has changed over time. Methods: Forty-one Korean documentaries featuring nurses were selected. The qualitative content analysis method of Elo and Kyngäs (2008) was used to identify the images of nurses. Results: Three themes emerged: "emphasis on the image of being a doctor's assistant and caring person," "image of kindness prevailing among the diverse roles of nurses," and "reports on the poor labor conditions behind the positive images of nurses." The image of nurses has gradually changed from performing a passive and auxiliary role to functioning as health care professionals. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, documentaries suggested that the poor labor conditions of nurses should be improved. Conclusion: Active publicity of nurses and nursing communities is needed using documentaries as a resource to inform the public of the various roles of nurses and promote the image of nurses as professionals. Purpose: In this paper issues and challenges of the workforce policy for nursing were explored and appropriate policy responses identified. Results: Many countries, including South Korea, are facing a shortage of nurses. In South Korea, the number of practicing registered nurses is about half the average for Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) member countries. The shortage of nurses is not necessarily a shortage of individuals with nursing qualifications but also includes complex issues, such as lack of well-educated nurses, shortage of nurses willing to work, and geographical imbalances of nurses. The present nurse workforce policies are to increase number of nursing schools, to reduce the length of training, and to replace nurses with nursing assistants. However, the findings of many studies have shown that these attempts resulted in a worsening of patient outcomes and increasingly low quality of care. Conclusion: The findings in this study indicate that nurse workforce policy should have a multi-faceted approach in order to address the many factors affecting nurse shortages. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to review journal articles, master's theses, and doctoral dissertations on self-leadership in nurses in order to identify overall trends in nursing self-leadership and to suggest strategies to improve self-leadership. Methods: Twenty-six papers on self-leadership in nurses were reviewed. Results: These papers were journal articles, master's theses, and doctoral dissertations regarding nurses who worked in general hospitals, university hospitals, and public health centers. Self-leadership was measured by using instruments developed by Manz (1983), Prussia, Anderson, & Manz (1998), and Houghton & Neck (2002). The instrument was composed of 18 items, with a 5-point Likert scale developed by Manz (1983) and modified by Kim (2002). Nurses' self-leadership was found to be related to job satisfaction, organizational commitment, nursing performance, and citizenship behavior. General characteristics of nurses, including age, education, marital status, position, and career, were also associated with self-leadership. Conclusion: The study findings provide data on recent trends in nurses' self-leadership. Purpose: In this study, the articles which developed and applied nursing interventions for patients with cancer were reviewed and analyzed. Methods: The analysis was performed in light of 171 pieces of literature on nursing interventions for patients with cancer published between 1991 and 2010. Results: Approximately half of the studies have been published between 2006 and 2010. The quasi-experimental designs using nonequivalent control group and no-synchronized design were the most common form of research design among the 71 papers constituting 41.52% of the total. The most commonly used nursing intervention was education (25.2%), followed by massage (20.4%) and exercise (11.5%). The most common outcome variable was anxiety (11.8%), followed by pain (8.0%) and nausea and vomiting (7.3%). Conclusion: The results of this study can provide useful information for the development of nursing interventions in specialized areas. Purpose: This study examined the variations in nursing competence and job satisfaction across different career stages. Additionally, it explored the effect of nursing competence on job satisfaction within each career stages. Methods: Participants were 468 nurses working at a university hospital in B city. Data collection was conducted using self-report questionnaires from April 1 to 15, 2020. The data were analyzed descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe test, and multiple regression analysis employing SPSS 23.0. Results: General nursing competence improved significantly after the proficiency stage. Care execution and critical thinking were improved as nurses progressed from the novice to the advanced beginner stage. Additionally, communication showed progress in the competent stage. Furthermore, responsibility and self-development were improved after the proficiency stage. Among the sub-competencies examined, self-development, care execution, and communication significantly influenced the job satisfaction of a nurse's career. Moreover, self-development was influential at all stages. Conclusion: This study shows that there was no substantial improvement in nursing competencies as they progressed through various career stages. Self-development was the most crucial sub-competence impacting job satisfaction, with the effects of the sub-competencies varying across career stages. Purpose: This paper presented a descriptive study which aimed to identify the relationship among menstrual attitude, premenstrual distress and premenstrual coping in Korean college women and to propose fundamental data for the development of guidelines for effective management of premenstrual distress. Methods: The data were collected from 111 college women and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficients. Results: The mean score of premenstrual coping was 3.25±0.60 out of 5 points. The 'Awareness and Acceptance of Premenstrual Change' score was highest and the 'Avoiding Harm' score was lowest. Menstrual attitude was significantly related to premenstrual distress (r=.37 p<.001) and the awareness and acceptance style of premenstrual coping (r=-.21. p=.021). And premenstrual distress was significantly related to the self-care coping style of premenstrual coping (r=.30, p=.001), the adjusting energy coping style of premenstrual coping (r=.45, p<.001) and the avoiding harm coping style of premenstrual coping (r=.48, p<.001). Conclusion: Results of this study support that positive attitude about menstruation is necessary for the effective management of premenstrual distress. Purpose: This study was to examine the influential factors on patient safety management activities of operating room nurses in general hospitals. Methods: The subject of this study were 133 operating room nurses of seven general hospitals in B metropolitan city. Data were collected from July 23 to August 14, 2020 using self-report questionnaires. For data analysis, a descriptive analysis and stepwise multiple regression were utilized with IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows version 22.0. Results: The significant predictors of patient safety management activities were perception of patient safety culture (β=.73, p<.001) and physical burden (β=-.13, p=.025). These variables were found to contribute 56.3% to the outcomes of patient safety management activities. Conclusion: Based on the research results, to promote patient safety management activities of operating room nurses, it is required to establish active and multifaceted strategies and systems at the hospital level to enhance awareness of patient safety culture and reduce physical burden. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide the basic data for reinforcing community nurses’ competencies related to elder abuse by identifying their perception based on an ecological system model. Methods: This study was a descriptive study. Structured self-reported questionnaires were sent via email to Seoul community nurses from Nov. 17 to Nov. 31, 2021 and, after getting their consent, a URL survey was distributed for collecting data online. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 program by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: Total perception of elder abuse was scored at 1.32±0.46 points out of 4. Among the individual characteristics, educational level (F=4.48, p=.013) and economic level (F=4.21, p=.016) were identified as variables with significant differences in perception of developmental abuse. Subjective health status negatively correlated with perception of spiritual abuse (r=-.15, p=.048). There were no significant variables among the family characteristics. Among the socio-cultural characteristics, elderly human rights positively correlated with total perception of elder abuse (r=.16, p=.031), sociocultural abuse (r=.23, p=.003), and spiritual abuse (r=.22, p=.003). Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors related to the professional quality of life of nurses in long-term care hospitals. Methods: A descriptive survey was conducted among 144 nurses with more than 3 months of work experience in five long-term care hospitals in B metropolitan city. Data were collected from April 15 to 30, 2022 and analyzed using the independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Mann-Whitney test, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: The regression model explained 51% of the variance of long-term care hospital nurses' compassion satisfaction (F=35.72, p<.001). Significant factors were dementia attitude (β=.23, p=.001), professional self-concept (β=.51, p<.001), marital status (married) (β= .16, p=.019) and more than 10 years of clinical experience at a long-term care hospital (β= -.29, p<.001). The regression model explained 36% of the variance of long-term care hospital nurses' compassion fatigue (F=12.93, p<.001). Significant factors were dementia attitude (β=-.27, p=.001), burden on behavioral psychological symptoms of dementia (β=.38, p<.001), women (β=.20, p=.005), more than 10 years of clinical experience at a long-term care hospital (β=.20, p=.004) and experience in education about dementia (yes) (β=-.16, p=.029). Conclusion: This study revealed several factors that are correlated with the professional quality of life of long-term care hospital nurses. To improve their quality of life, hospitals should help nurses have a positive attitude toward dementia, reduce the burden of behavioral psychological symptoms of dementia, and provide dementia care training. Purpose: This paper reports the results of a hospital centered follow-up program on parenting stress, parenting efficacy and coping for mothers with very low birth weight (VLBW) infants. Methods: The follow-up program consisted of home visiting by an expert group and self-help program for 1 year. A non-equivalent control group pre-post quasi-experimental design was used. Participants were 70 mothers with low birth weight infants and were assigned to one of two groups, an experimental groups (n=28), which received the family support program; and a control group (n=27), which received the usual discharge education. Data were analyzed using χ²-test, t-test, and ANCOVA with IBM SPSS statistics 20.0. Results: Mothers' parenting stress (F=5.66, p =.004) was significantly decreased in the experimental group. There were also significant increases in parenting efficacy (F=13.05, p <.001) and coping (F=8.91, p =.002) in the experimental group. Conclusion: The study findings suggest that a follow-up program for mothers with VLBW infants is an effective intervention to decrease mothers' parenting stress and to enhance parenting efficacy and coping. Purpose: The usability, user satisfaction, and impact of electronic nursing record (ENR) systems were investigated. Methods: This mixed-method research was performed as a time-motion (TM) study and a survey which were carried out at six hospitals between August and November 2013. The TM study involved 108 nurses from medical, surgical, and intensive care units at each hospital, plus an additional 48 nurses who served as nonparticipating observers. In the survey, 1879 volunteer nurses completed the Impact of ENR Systems Scale, the System Usability Scale, and a global satisfaction scale. Qualitative and quantitative analyses were performed. Results: The mean scores for the ENR impact, system usability, and satisfaction were 4.28 (out of 6), 58.62 (out of 100), and 74.31 (out of 100), respectively, and they differed significantly between hospitals (F=43.43, p<.001, F=53.08 and p<.001, and F=29.13 and p<.001, respectively). A workflow fragmentation assessment revealed different patterns of ENR system use among the included hospitals. Three user characteristics-educational background, practice period, and experience of using paper records-significantly affected the system usability and satisfaction scores. Conclusion: The system quality varied widely among the ENR systems. The generally low-to-moderate levels of system usability and user satisfaction suggest many opportunities for improvement. Purpose: This scoping review focused on the application of simulation education for nursing college students and analyzed studies measuring problem-solving ability to present an overview of research trends and future directions. Methods: The scoping review followed the review guideline. The study was conducted independently by two reviewers, who searched the literature through electronic databases (DBpia, KISS, Science on, RISS, and Google Scholar). Results: In total, 32 studies were included in the final analysis, and each study was analyzed according to the following domains: general characteristics, simulation-related characteristics, and instrument-related characteristics. Simulation-based learning was primarily conducted for third- and fourth-year nursing students using various scenarios and high-fidelity simulators. However, the effect of simulation education on problem-solving ability was somewhat inconsistent, and some studies reported different names of tools and numbers of items by sub-area from the original instruments. Conclusion: It is necessary to critically reflect upon whether "Process Behavior Survey" tool can be used for simulation education. Purpose: This descriptive survey study was conducted to determine the degree of implementation of anticancer drug safety management guidelines by nurses handling anticancer drugs, safety motivation, safety control, ward safety culture, and anticancer drug safety guidelines. Methods: The subjects of this study were 136 nurses working in the designated ward for anticancer drug treatment, and data collection was conducted from November 3rd to November 16, 2021. Collected data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS statistics 28.0 program by frequency and percentage, mean and standard deviation, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Results: As a result of analyzing the effects of the subjects' knowledge of anticancer drug safety management guidelines, safety motivation, safety control, and ward safety culture on the implementation of anticancer drug safety guidelines, it was found to be knowledge of anticancer drug safety management guidelines (β=22), with 7.0% of the explanatory power. Conclusion: The factors influencing the implementation of anticancer drug safety management guidelines were found to be anticancer drug safety management guidelines, and it is suggested that follow-up studies be conducted to develop educational programs and interventions to improve anticancer drug safety guidelines. Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effects of disaster perception, disaster attitude, and communication skills on disaster nursing competence among nurse officers at armed forces hospitals. Methods: In this descriptive study, data were collected from 191 nurse officers at armed forces hospitals in Korea, using convenience sampling. Data were analyzed by conducting descriptive statistics, the independent sample t-test, one-way analysis of variance, the Scheffe test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Results: The mean scores for disaster perception, disaster attitude, communication skills, and disaster nursing competency were 73.02±7.66, 36.86±3.96, 57.97±6.39, and 52.88±7.66, respectively. Disaster perception was correlated with disaster attitude (r=.32, p=.002), communication skills (r=.46, p<.001) and disaster nursing competence (r=.40, p<.001). Disaster attitude was correlated with communication skills(r=.28, p<.001) and disaster nursing competence (r=.19, p=.008). Communication skills were correlated with disaster nursing competence (r=.50, p<.001). The factors influencing nurse officers' disaster nursing competence were communication skills (β=.34, p<.001), disaster perception (β=.20, p=.003), experience in disaster education (β=-.20, p=.001), experience in disaster nursing work (β=-.14, p=.022) and working experience (β=.14, p=.033). Conclusion: Disaster nursing competence had a positive correlation with recognition of communication skills, disaster perception, experience of disaster education, and experience of disaster nursing work. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the incidence and risk factors associated with the unplanned removal of nasogastric (NG) tubes in neurocritical patients. Methods: Data were collected retrospectively from the medical records of 479 patients admitted to the tertiary hospital's neuro-intensive care units (NCU). Subjects were divided into two groups depending on whether there was unplanned NG tube removal. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to identify risk factors. Results: Unplanned removal of NG tubes occurred in 35.9% of patients. The incidence of unplanned NG tube removal was 47.2 per 1,000 patient days. Intubated time of the NG tube was 3.96 days in patients with unplanned removal. Risk factors associated with unplanned removal were men (Odds Ratio [OR]=2.19), epilepsy (OR=9.99), traumatic brain injury (OR=5.50), stroke (OR=4.42), improvement of Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) (OR=1.08), delirium (OR=1.88), physical restraint (OR=2.44), and drainage or decompression purpose (OR=1.67). Conclusion: Unplanned removal of NG tubes occurred very frequently in neurocritical patients. Care should be taken for patients with neurological diseases who show improvement in their level of consciousness but are still confused due to brain lesions or delirium to reduce it. The application of physical restraints cannot guarantee the prevention of unplanned NG tube removal. Therefore, nurses need to assess the condition of patients and NG tubes frequently. In particular, more attention should be paid to using NG tubes for decompression or drainage purposes. It is also proposed to actively review the NG tube removal plan through periodic evaluation. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to provide researchers with a simplified approach to undertaking exploratory factor analysis for the assessment of construct validity. Methods: All articles published in 2010, 2011, and 2012 in Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing were reviewed and other relevant books and articles were chosen for the review. Results: In this paper, the following were discussed: preliminary analysis process of exploratory factor analysis to examine the sample size, distribution of measured variables, correlation coefficient, and results of KMO measure and Bartlett's test of sphericity. In addition, other areas to be considered in using factor analysis are discussed, including determination of the number of factors, the choice of rotation method or extraction method of the factor structure, and the interpretation of the factor loadings and explained variance. Conclusion: Content validity is the degree to which elements of an assessment instrument are relevant to and representative of the targeted construct for a particular assessment purpose. This measurement is difficult and challenging and takes a lot of time. Factor analysis is considered one of the strongest approaches to establishing construct validity and is the most commonly used method for establishing construct validity measured by an instrument. Purpose: This study was conducted to estimate the influence of knowledge of coronary artery disease (CAD) and self-efficacy on health behavior Compliance among patients with CAD. Methods: Data were collected from August 11, 2020 to April 28, 2021. In total, 159 patients with CAD participated in this study. Data were analyzed using the independent t-test, analysis of variance, Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Results: Health behavior compliance was correlated with knowledge of CAD (r=.33, p<.001) and self-efficacy (r=.71, p<.001), Multiple regression analysis found self-efficacy (β=.67, p<.001) and knowledge of coronary artery disease (β=.16, p=.004), to be statistically significant influencing factors, and the explanatory power of the model was approximately 52% (F=30.39, p<.001). Conclusion: Interventions to enhance self-efficacy and education programs to improve disease-related knowledge are essential for patients with CAD to improve their self-care health behaviors compliance. This study analyzed the path through which elderly discrimination experience, sense of loss, and depression lead to suicidal ideation by verifying the influence of elderly discrimination experience on suicidal ideation and the mediating effect sense of loss and depression. The subjects of the study were a 1:1 in-depth interview survey of 400 elderly people aged 65 or older using stratified sampling methods by region and type of 31 city, county, and district the elderly welfare welfare centers(10 locations) in Gyeonggi-do. As a result, a total of 360 samples were finally analyzed. It was verified through frequency analysis, descriptive statistics analysis, correlation analysis, structural equation and bootstrapping analysis methods using SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 23.0. As a result of the study, first, it was found that the more the elderly experienced discrimination, the higher the suicidal ideation. Second, the effect of sense of loss was partially mediated on the effect of discrimination experience on suicidal ideation in the elderly. Third, the feeling of depression was found to play a partial mediating role between the experience of discrimination among the elderly and suicidal ideation. Based on the results of this study, policy and practical suggestions were made to alleviate the suicidal ideation of experiences of discrimination against the elderly and sense of loss and depression to prevent suicide among the elderly. Purpose: This study was done to determine whether the Korean version of the cyberbullying scale developed for adolescents is applicable to newly graduated nurses. Methods: This scale was composed of 14 items with the one-factor structure to measure the degree of cyberbullying and 1 item with multiple responses the media used for cyberbullying. Online survey data were collected from 279 newly graduated nurses who worked in hospital. Internal consistency reliability and construct validity using confirmatory factor analysis were conducted using SPSS/WIN 26.0 and AMOS 26.0. Results: The one-factor structure was validated through confirmatory factor analysis (χ²=360.22, df=77, Normed Fit Index (NFI)=.91, Tucker Lewis index (TLI)=.92, Comparative Fit Index (CFI)=.93, and Root Mean-Squared Error of Approximation (RMSEA)=.12). The correlation coefficient between cyberbullying and workplace bullying was .50 (p<.01), confirming the criterion-related validity. The Korean version of the cyberbullying scale showed reliable internal consistency with a Cronbach's α for the total scale of .97. Conclusion: Findings from this study demonstrate that the Korean version of the cyberbullying scale has satisfactory construct validity and reliability to measure cyberbullying experience among newly graduated nurses. Purpose: This study sought to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of the shortening effect of the modified Weil osteotomy for the treatment of Freiberg's disease. Materials and Methods: We reviewed 21 cases treated with the modified Weil osteotomy for Freiberg's disease from November 2005 to June 2019. The average follow-up period was 32.5 months and the mean age of the patients was 38.3 years. The clinical results were analyzed using the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) lesser metatarsophalangeal-interphalangeal scale, the visual analogue scale (VAS), and the range of motion (ROM) of the metatarsophalangeal joint. In the radiologic evaluation, the length of pre-operative and postoperative metatarsal shortening was compared. Results: The average AOFAS lesser metatarsophalangeal-interphalangeal scale showed an improvement from 60.5 preoperatively to 90.9 at the latest follow-up. VAS showed a decrease from 5.4 preoperatively to 0.9 at the latest follow-up. ROM of the affected metatarsophalangeal joint increased from 40.2 degrees preoperatively to 58.6 degrees at the latest follow-up. The mean length of metatarsal shortening was 6.7 mm. There was no transfer metatarsalgia, osteonecrosis, and definite joint space narrowing. Conclusion: Modified Weil osteotomy with second layer cutting is an effective treatment option to restore the joint surface and painless joint motion for patients with Freiberg's disease. Purpose: The aim of this study was to explore the effects of A-solution on halitosis and oral status in preoperative NPO patients. Methods: A nonequivalent control group, non-synchronized pretest-posttest design was used in this study. The participants in this study were 66 patients who were admitted for gynecologic surgery. The experimental treatment was to give oral gargling with A-solution, blended essential oils and diluted with distilled water. To identify the experimental treatment effects, halitosis, salivary pH, and oral status were measured by a portable halitosis detector, visual analogue scale, Bromo Thymol Blue (BTB), Bromo Cresol Purple (BCP) test paper and oral assessment guide. Data were analyzed using X²-test, t-test with PASW 18.0 version. Results: Participants were homogeneous before experimental treatment. Objective halitosis in the experimental group, measured by a portable halitosis detector (t= -8.34, p<.001) was significantly lower than the control group. Subjective halitosis was significantly lower in the experimental group (t= -9.29, p<.001). Salivary pH was significantly different between two groups (t=8.81, p<.001). Oral status was significantly better in the experimental group (t= -13.31, p<.001). This study is to analyze the performance of the reformed liberal arts curriculum based on the core competencies of A University and use it as basic data for evaluation and feedback. To this end, students who took courses opened in the second semester of 2020 were surveyed using the liberal arts curriculum competency diagnosis tool developed by A University. Depending on the purpose of the study, descriptive statistics and t-test were performed to analyze the results. As a result of the study, communication (t=-9.839, p<.01), learning (t=-4.707, p<.01), thinking (t=-9.992, p<.01), cooperation (t= -2.061, p<.01) was significantly improved, and sharing (t=-.550) was improved, but it was not significant. Purpose: To analyze the changes in nurse staffing grades and to estimate the revenue growth generated by applying government guidelines for improving nurses' working conditions. Methods: Staffing grades, ranging from grade 1 (highest) to 7 (lowest), for 2018 and 2020 were analyzed for 326 general hospitals (GHs) and 1,419 non-general hospitals (NGHs). The annual revenue growth per nurse generated by changing inpatient nursing care fee schedules and newly introducing night shift nursing fees were estimated. Results: Grade 1 GHs increased from 6.9% in 2018 to 39.6% in 2020, whereas grades 6-7 decreased from 31.8% to 17.6%. NGHs with grades 6-7 decreased from 81.8% to 61.6%. GHs and NGHs with no reported staffing grades decreased from 10.6% to 0% and from 63.2% to 14.8%, respectively. The estimated annual revenue growth per nurse from inpatient nursing care fees resulting from 1-grade improvements in staffing was 1.44~7.26 million Korean won (KRW) and 1.25~9.75 million KRW for GHs and NGHs, respectively, while the results from night shift nursing fees were 2.37~5.54 million KRW and 2.20~5.14 million KRW for GHs and NGHs, respectively. Purpose: The National Health Insurance Service implemented a tele-consultation pilot project for in-home care using Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). This study aims to investigate nurses’, doctors’, and families’ perceptions on the project. Methods: Using the pilot project database and perception survey data, this study provides a description of the satisfaction, re-participation motivation, and experiences of nurses, doctors, and families. Results: Tele-consultation for home-visit nursing was used to monitor health conditions and problems, such as pain and blood pressure, or health counseling for home-care beneficiaries. The beneficiaries' families showed higher levels of satisfaction than the service providers. Nurses and doctors had relatively positive perceptions about the usefulness of sharing information about beneficiaries, timeliness of providing nursing care, and convenience of communication. Meanwhile, nurses and doctors had negative perceptions of the sufficiency and accuracy of information obtained from tele-consultation, implying the necessity of adopting more advanced ICTs. Conclusion: This study suggests what must be considered when designing a tele-consultation service model in long-term care settings, especially in the home-visit nursing care setting. Purpose: This study aimed to examine the relationship between nursing care needs and nurse staffing in pulmonology units. Methods: This was a descriptive study that used a retrospective design. In total, 2,622 patient medical records from a tertiary hospital were analyzed. Variables were collected from Clinical Data Warehouse and Electronic Medical Records. Results: The study found a difference in nursing care needs and nurse staffing by shift among units. In unit A (general unit), nurses were assigned according to nursing care needs and the proportion of severe patients. However, in unit B (general unit), higher nursing needs could lead to an increase in the number of patients per nurse on night duty (r=.23, p<.001). In unit C (comprehensive nursing care service unit), the number of patients per nurse during the day increased as nursing needs increased. The higher the proportion of "greater than two points in nursing activities", the higher the number of patients per nurse during the day (r=.13, p=.010) and evening (r=.12, p=.018). However, the higher the proportion of "greater than three points in activities of daily living", the lower the number of patients per nurse during the night shift (r=-.28, p<.001). Conclusion: Patients' nursing care needs should be considered in the management of nurse staffing. Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effect of pain, anxiety, depression, perception dignity, and spiritual well-being on hospice patients' attitudes toward dignified death. Methods: A total of 130 terminal cancer patients admitted to hospice · palliative care institutions in Korea participated in the study. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, an independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression using SPSS Statistics 26.0. The assessment tools were the Brief Pain Inventory, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, Perception of Dignity Scale, Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Spiritual Well-Being Scale, and Attitudes toward Dignified Death Scale. Results: The mean scores were as follows: 5.25 for pain, 11.98 for anxiety, 14.56 for depression, 22.12 for spiritual well-being, 14.38 for perception of dignity, and 93.12 for attitudes toward dignified death. The results of the hierarchical multiple analysis revealed that spiritual well-being (β=.36, p<.001) was predictive of the attitudes toward dignified death (R²=.13, p<.001). Conclusion: Spiritual well-being is associated with hospice patients' attitudes toward dignified death. The results highlight the necessity to develop effective nursing intervention programs that promote spiritual well-being for hospice patients' attitudes toward dignified death. Purpose: To assess characteristics the application of mobile medication system and medication administration error (MAE) alerts in a general hospital. Methods: The subject hospital adopted a mobile medication system in 2016. All medication administrations in the general wards and ICUs were automatically recorded in real-time using identification barcodes, drug barcodes, and hand-held point-of-care devices. MAE alert logs were recorded from April 1st 2017 to March 31st 2018. For this study analysis was done using Pearson's chi-squared test for potentially related factors of MAE alerts included administration time, order type, medication route, and length of nurse's employment. Results: The total number of medications during the period of this study was 3,227,990. Among them, 2,698,317 medication doses were recorded, resulting in the system application rate of 83.6%. The system application rate was significantly correlated with all factors related to potential MAE alters. In this study 23,314 MAE alerts(0.9% of the total medication doses) were identified. The MAE alerts were related to new (OR=2.26, p<.001) and emergency (OR=2.25, p<.001) orders, and administration at a non-standard time (0R=2.032, p<.001). Medication route (p<.001), and nurse's employment duration(p<.001) were also related. Conclusion: A mobile medication system contributes to improving patient safety by preventing potential MAEs. The MAE alerts were related to administration time, order type, medication route, and duration of nurse's employment. In order to prevent medication administration errors, it is necessary to standardize the process of medication and create an environment in which medication administration can be performed in a planned situation. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze noise experience and response to noise by patients and nursing staff in intensive care units (ICU). Methods: This study was a cross-sectional survey based on questionnaires administered to patients and staff in ICU to analyze the perceived noise level in the ICU environment, frequency of noise experience and noise level emitted by different sources, noise induced discomfort, response to noise, and the quality of sleep. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: Regarding the frequency of experience and noise levels emitted by various sources, patients carried the maximum number of human factors, and staff carried the highest number of medical devices or medical supplies. The quality of sleep caused by noise in patients was lower. Based on the correlation between the various variables, the higher the perceived noise level in the ICU environment, the higher the response to the noise (positive correlation) and the lower the quality of sleep (negative correlation). Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, a follow-up study is suggested to compare perceived noise levels of patients and staff. Practical strategies are needed to reduce noise based on noise levels and sources of noise experienced by ICU patients and staff. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
