世界の食品廃棄量は,農業生産から消費にいたるフードチェーン全体で,総生産量のおよそ3分の1に当たる年間13億トンに達すると推計されている。そのため,2015年9月の国連首脳会議で採択されたSDGsにおいて,2030年までに食品廃棄半減等の目標が掲げられた。日本では,事業系廃棄物は839万トン,家庭系廃棄物は822万トンに上り,それらのうち可食部分と考えられる量(食品ロスの量)は事業系で339万トン,家庭系で282万トンの合計621万トンに達している。この削減の官民による取り組みが,近年,さかんに行われるようになっている。筆者は,2012年以来,農林水産省や経済産業省,東京都などが支援するプロジェクトに参加する機会を得て,この問題に継続的に関与してきている。そうした経験を踏まえて,食品ロス削減で先行しているフランス,イギリスの取り組みを整理し,日本への示唆を検討する。, In Japan, the amount of food waste from the business sector was 8.39 million tons, the amount of food waste from the household sector was 8.22 million tons, and among them, the amount considered to be edible amounts to 3.99 million tons from the business and 2.22 million tons from the household, totaling 6.21 million tons. Recently, policies and activities by public and private sectors to reduce food waste have come to be carried out in Japan. The author has been involved in this problem continuously since 2012, with the opportunity to participate in projects supported by MAFF, METI and, Tokyo Metropolitan Government, etc. Based on such experiences, the author considers policies and activities in France and the UK, which are preceding Japan in reducing food waste, and clarifies implications for Japan.
