The present study clarifies advocacy activities in Psychiatric Social Workers empowerment-based practice in mental health through the literature review. 0ne of the objectives of empowerment-based practice is that the mentally handicapped person in powerless situations become empowered persons and actively participate in their community as citizens. Psychiatric Social Workers can support the mentally handicaped person in an individual level for self-advocacy,through“developing their sense of control and recognizing rights,”“promoting their self-directive orientation,” “developing their consumer consciousness,” and “improving their own workability.” In a group level for the advocacy,PSW can support them through “developing their group consciousness,”“forming mutual support,”and“promoting their group advocacy skills.” In a social level for the advocacy,PSW can support them through “creating alliance and reforming organizations,” “actively participating political process and policy decision-making process,”and“promoting their citizen advocacy skills.”
