Abstract

A conservative design methodology which results in overweight winding of helical layer in Type 4 hydrogen tank has been employed since the rupture phenomena in the vicinity of metallic boss of the tank is too complicated to predict precise burst pressure. The complexity comes from both the meso-scale structure constituted by overlapped carbon fiber bundles and local bending deformation in the part. Authors have developed a meso-scale based methodology for precise prediction of the burst pressure of Type 4 hydrogen tank, where carbon fiber bundles and matrix resin are perfectly distinguished for modeling. We investigate resin fracture model for the improvement of burst pressure prediction initiated by the rupture in the vicinity of metallic boss, assuming the reinforcement by means of Automated CFRP Tape Placement to realize ultimately light design of the tank. Specimens representing meso-scopic structure in the part are manufactured and submitted to the three-point bending tests. Through the validation of meso-scale fracture simulations corresponding to the tests, we demonstrate compressive fracture model of resin is decisive for precise description of terminative fracture phenomena in bending test specimen.

Abstract

For stringent cost reduction with sufficient safety of a high pressure hydrogen tank made by carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) installed in a fuel cell vehicle, a method to precisely predict the burst pressure of the tank has been intensely required. CFRP layers in the tank consist of complicated meso-structures with carbon fiber bundles and matrix resin, in which crimps of the bundles are stacked by a filament winding process. We propose a method to predict the burst pressure by zooming analysis of conventional axisymmetric continuum model of the whole tank with the meso-scale model. The proposed method is validated through the burst test of tank with accurate prediction of the burst pressure by means of the carbon fiber rupture in the meso-scale model.

Abstract

An accurate fracture estimation of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) is indispensable for adequate design with reliability and economization of high pressure hydrogen tank made by filament winding (FW) method for automobile. Authors have approached to the burst pressure estimation problems of the tank substituted by cross shape specimen representing fiber bundle situation in CFRP layer of the tank. The specimen is manufactured by filament winding machine to form crimps of fiber bundles crossover by right angle. Its mesoscopic structure of fiber bundle and matrix resin is precisely modeled for the finite element analysis. Highly non-linear material model of resin strength has been developed to predict breakage load and elongation of the specimen under biaxial tensile test. We have elucidated strain-rate dependency and tension-compression asymmetry in resin strength, and transverse strength of fiber bundle govern the fracture process of the specimen. Other types of specimens, such as unidirectional, crossover by 45 degrees with crimps and layered by right angle, are employed to demonstrate the validity of the proposed methodology.

Abstract

衛星用電源の小型・軽量化を実現する1つの手法として、高出力の大型セラミック部品を基板に直接表面実装することが有効である。そのためには、高放熱性と低熱膨張性を有する基板が必要である。しかし、一般的なガラスエポキシ基板では、放熱性が不足し、高放熱基板として知られているアルミコア基板では、熱サイクルによってはんだ接合部分が断線するという問題がある。そこで、低熱膨張・高熱伝導のCFRP(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics, カーボン繊維強化プラスチック）をコア材に用いた基板の開発を検討した。作製したCFRPコア基板の放熱性と部品実装信頼性を測定した結果、従来基板よりも優れた特性を有することを確認した。, It is important to find ways to reduce the size and weight of satellite power supplies. This goal requires the development of surface mounting technology, in which the devices supply high power while using large-scale ceramic packages. The technology has been developed to make printed wiring boards (PWBs) with high heat dissipation and low thermal expansion. However, conventional glass-epoxy and aluminum core PWBs do not provide enough high heat dissipation and low thermal expansion to develop reliable PWBs. In this study, therefore we attempted to develop a new type of core PWB by utilizing Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics (CFRP) in order to overcome the above problems. It has been confirmed that the CFRP core PWB developed shows higher heat dissipation and lower thermal expansion than the conventional PWBs.

Abstract

この報告はCFRP(炭素繊維強化プラスチック)複合材積層板の圧縮強度に及ぼす衝撃荷重の影響について述べた。積層板は衝撃損傷を与えた後、残留強度を評価するために圧縮荷重を負荷した。衝撃による積層板内部の損傷状態は超音波探傷検査および実体顕微鏡を用いて調べた。試験結果の概要は次のようである。積層板内部の層間剥離面積は衝撃面より裏面の方が大きく、その剥離面積の形は最外積層方向を長軸とする楕円形を示した。また、剥離面積の大きさと衝撃エネルギーはほぼ比例関係にあった。衝撃損傷による圧縮残留強度は衝撃エネルギーの増大によって低下を示し、70J/cmの衝撃損傷を受けた場合の圧縮残留強度は衝撃を受けない場合の約70%の強度に低下した。, This report describes the influence of impact damage on the compressive strength of CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics) -laminated panels. The panels with impact damage are subjected to compressive loads for evaluation of their residual strength. The interlaminar failure of the panels with impact damage is investigated using ultrasonic inspection techniques and optical microscopy. The test results are summarized as follows. The area of delamination on the reverse surface is larger than that on the impact surface. The shape of the area is an ellipse whose major axis corresponds to the fiber direction of the surface laminate. In addition, the area size is approximately proportional to the impact energy. The compressive residual strength decreased with increasing impact damage. 国際共同研究VAMAS(Versailles project on Advanced Materials and Standards)における研究課題「高分子複合材料」ではFRPの引張疲れ試験法評価に関する第1次共同実験が行われた。共通試料として1方向繊維強化エポキシ樹脂複合材料(GFRPおよびCFRP)の短冊平板が参加機関にそれぞれ提供された。評価は同材料の繊維方向について正弦波形による繰り返し引張荷重疲れ試験を実施し、標準試験方法確立のための検討資料を得るものであった。ここでは同評価試験の結果、および同成果を踏まえて1方向強化CFRPについて独自に行った試験片形状などの比較検討結果を報告する。, The aim of the Versailles Project on Advanced Materials and Standards (VAMAS) program is to evaluate the mechanical properties of advanced materials. In this study, as a part of the polymer composites, the first phase of this round robin test was carried out to examine the tension-tension fatigue properties of unidirectional Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastics (GFRP) and Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics (CFRP). Fatigue tests were undertaken in a sinusoidal load-controlled testing mode, with a load ratio of 0.1. In the case of CFRP tests, the comparison of cold-setting epoxy resin and curing epoxy resin film as the end-tab adhesive was made. It was found that the fatigue strength differed largely between the two types of tab adhesive. In another study, the effects of the end-tab configuration of the specimen and the testing frequency of fatigue behavior of unidirectional CFRP specimen were examined. As for the tab configuration, 10 deg tapered and untapered end-tab specimens were provided. On the testing frequency, fatigue tests were conducted with 2, 5 and 10 Hz.
