The aim of the present article is to better understand how hospitality relationships are perceived by the host community of a touristic city, based on the belonging and welcoming dimensions. The City of Campos de Jordão (SP, Brazil) was the research object. The impacts of tourism on a locality have long been discussed, with the economic ones being the most commonly analyzed. However, as tourism has become a market, recent studies have also begun to address the social impacts, which are often generated by the adverse effects of this activity. The current research is based on phenomenology, and its methodology follows an integrative design based on qualitative techniques. Qualitative data were collected in 2021 and evidence the support given to tourism, although they also point towards signs of impoverished relationships between the local community and visitors, as well as to the lack of appropriation of public spaces by local residents.

This study is analysing the condition of the stranger, characterizing the protagonist of the novel The Messiah of Stockholm by Cynthia Ozick, in relation to Jacques Derrida’s study Of Hospitality, his complex relationship of care with Mrs Eklund as well as the changing of the reader’s position regarding the access to the inner life of Lars Andemining. There will be a highlight on the mixture of different cultural voices, on the condition of the immigrant, and, last but not least, on a relationship of care that is not fully sincere, even though it succeeds. Furthermore, we would argue that the novel accomplishes the function of seductively sabotaging the readers into the complexity of human relationships in diaspora, through different voices.

The future of the Church, within the present European context marked by a historical crisis of Christianity, cannot simply be a mere re-Christianization, but rather an actual birth event, similar to the founding of the first Christian communities coming from paganism in the New Testament age. In C. Theobald's theology, the idea of ecclesiogenesis joins this process to the holy hospitality, as a central feature of the ministry of Jesus. This article suggests an interpretation of the ecclesiogenesis from the Holy Spirit point of view, highlighting the decisive bond between the hospitality of Jesus and a possible new missionary form of the Church as an open space of holy hospitality. In fact, it's the Spirit of holiness that transfers the Nazarene's hospitable space into the believers' community, thus allowing the Church to be permanently in statu nascendi. This article attempts to identify some of the philosophical-theological implications of Franciscan hospitality, starting from the assumption that we are "pilgrims and strangers in this world" (Later Rule 6:2, FF 90), meaning, that the places where we are born and where we come to rest are not in this world but 'elsewhere'. The article makes two quick explorations. The first tries to clearly identify the point in the modern era, when the idea of the transcendent nature of our coming into the world was put aside. To confirm this, we mention three distinct theoretical frameworks relating to the modern era (Dostoevsky, Byung-Chul and Heidegger), which is characterized by the primacy of scientific-technical reasoning. The second exploration concerns the fruitfulness of the shift from Western rationalism to Scotist-Franciscan voluntarism, which points to the primacy of the will, by whose light we try to interpret reality and our history. The article concludes with the idea that each of us is called to be hospitable to one another as a sign of gratitude to God, because God, for His part, treats us hospitably even though He could have chosen not to do so. This paper explores the conceptualization of freedom in the memoir of the Iranian-American journalist and media activist, Masih Alinejad. It examines The Wind in My Hair: My Fight for Freedom in Modern Iran (2018) with respect to Alinejad’s activism in the "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement in Iran. The paper utilizes a critical framework drawn from feminist critiques of neoliberal feminism and Derridean hospitality to focus on Alinejad’s repetition of the narratives of model minority and American exceptionalism. These neoliberal narratives have the potential to turn both Iran and the United States into inhospitable places for women. The paper concludes that an intersectional examination of Alinejad’s neoliberal approach to the experiences of women in both the United States and Iran will demonstrate that it does not coincide with the demands of "Woman, Life, Freedom".

This article explores the link between hospitality and power in two poems by contemporary Chicana writers Pat Mora and Sandra Cisneros, reflecting on how these two poems denounce the complicity of certain discourses and practices of hospitality with oppression and exclusion. Both poems explore the intersection between hospitality, power and inequality, highlighting the power differentials at play beneath relationships of hospitality. Hospitality appears in the two poems as a cover-up for marginalization and exploitation, the exclusion of migrants and post-migrants and the subjugation of women through norms of self-sacrifice. However, the two poems also reclaim hospitality and offer textual forms of generosity and care, or poetic hospitality in the way they welcome in voices, readers, and stories.

The Russian general and future Ministry of War (1861-1881) Dmitriy Alekseyevich on 7 January 1841 landed in Naples, where he stayed for about a month. His journey in Italy had begun in early December 1840. He was profoundly impressed by the beauty of the town which "can perhaps only compete with Constantinople" and its surroundings, which also arose his wonder. His strong interest in the geological aspect of the volcanic area and the manifestation of the chthonic forces of nature led him to the crater of Vesuvius, from which he would admire an extraordinary panorama against the backdrop of a terse sky. Although he considered it pointless to repeat what had already been reported many times by other more skilled pens he declared his intention to limit himself to reporting only his personal memories; in his Vospominanija Milyutin meticulously reported every impression arisen by what he saw and described his travel experience with precision and abundance of details. The lucid and, at times, severe chronicle of his Neapolitan sojourn (he dwells on every single aspect: from hotel hospitality to the food, the artistic heritage, the local population and the natural environment) alternated with reflections and the externalization of a vivid feeling of astonishment. His recollections and impressions of his trip to Naples are contained in the first volume (Vospominanija) of his vast and valuable memoir, which covers a period between 1839 and 1881 and which so far does not seem to have received any particular attention from scholars of travel literature. The aim of this paper is to analyze the cultural, sociological, and artistic portrait of Naples and its surroundings drawn by Dmitriy Milyutin, with the intention of stressing the author's cultural perception, determined by an intense yet contradictory sensation of extraneousness mixed with the inexplicable and indefinite nostalgia that fueled his regret for his detachment. The early medieval coenobitic tradition, starting from the ancient monastic rules, has developed a discipline on the practice of charity, which reflects social conditions and mentality proper to its time. The precept of love towards the others is also distinguished in the care for the sick in need of assistance, the guests who arrive at the monastery and the poor knocking at its door or wanderers asking to be housed. The Benedictine rule says that the guest is accepted by the prior or brothers with all charity and they pray together; the distribution of bread, food, wine and the assignment of a bed are contemplated. It is an evangelical command of monastic life. According to the Regula Benedicti handed down by Ildemaro of Corbie the hospitale pauperum is directed by the eleemosinarius monk, while the hospitale nobilium looks like lodgings in which to host the patrons of the Abbey, high prelates or influential characters, with whom the monks establishes useful public relations. The structure of the hospital of Santa Giulia, historically and archaeologically studied through unpublished documents, was wide and fit for this task. It included a central claustrum overlooked by the palacium or main building, equipped with court-distributed accommodations, the church dedicated to San Remigio, the domus consisting of accommodations, the curia communis and many other service sites. The nuns, sometimes assisted by a retrix hospitalis, performed their service into institutionalized charity in a hospital that was the largest and most important in Brescia, until the middle XV century. The aim of the research is to analyse the functions and interconnections with social and political life in a diachronic way, but also to show an example of institutionalized medieval charity.

The recognition of self as other and others as self continues to be one of the greatest challenges to the ethos necessary for institutions, public and private, engaged in hospitality. Indeed, hospitality is an intrinsic part of the recognition of the common and communal bond in which each human person can rediscover a sense of belonging and his or her own specific creaturality, the fruit of mutual and diverse encounters in the relationship between peoples and among peoples. Inspired by papal words and documents, as well as philosophical and political debates of jus, here we defend the value of experiences of mutual bonds of memory and humanitarian revelation, in which a clear distinction between demos and ethnos can be established. By questioning globalization in its economic and financial promises, unrelated to human dignity and hospitality, it reveals how paths to peace are sustained by the synodal consolidation of human rights and fundamental freedoms. Thus, a distinction must be made between claims of ethnic recognition, on the one hand, and the promises of global recognition of civil rights and pseudo-cultural acquisitions, which have in recent years risen to legal protection and political guarantee; on the other hand, it is pointed out that true recognition of the human person as constituted in a relational, social and community dignity is only beyond the economic-financial constraints of globalization. The path articulated in this paper has as its background and horizon the question of hospitality. In order to propose a re-thinking of this concept and the practices related to it, in this paper an attempt will be made to analyze the phenomenology of hostility starting from the analysis of the concepts of the stranger and the foreigner, and then focusing on the concept of community in order to outline the assumptions of a philosophy of hospitality. The thesis of this work is that identity can only be defined in relation to otherness and that the latter does not come from an external dimension but from an internal dimension. In this sense, the stranger who must be welcomed is the one who is always on the verge of arriving and who in his coming always crosses the threshold, the limit that establishes the division between the inside and the outside, between the proper and the foreign. This article pursues the aim of pointing out the occidental Personalism (that developed in Europe between the XVIIIth and the XXth century) as probably the most appropriate basis for justify the concept of “hospitality” together with the possible relative doctrine and praxis. We discuss the thought of many personalist thinkers and the thought of those thinkers that are near to the Personalism (but always taking as basis the thought of Edith Stein and Nikolaj Berdjaev). With this aim we attempt to propose a new concept of person along the global personalist thinking, toward the ethical demanded by the concept of “hospitality”. Thus the concept of person seems to us the best way to approach “hospitality”. In fact this new concept of person and the rise of “hospitality” enables a view free of ideological extremisms. This essay discusses how issues of otherness/identity are at the heart of Patience Agbabi’s poetry collection Telling Tales (2014). A rewriting of Geoffey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, the work of the British-Nigerian author addresses alterity through the representation of a heterogeneous group of present-day pilgrims interacting with one another as they are travelling on a bus from Tabard Inn to Canterbury Cathedral. The essay investigates how Agbabi’s poems rewrite Chaucer’s work from a twenty-first century perspective, and deal with alterity in the form of an unfinished dialogue with the medieval text and in ways which encompass not only moral, ethical or social questions, but also formal and generic issues. It shows that poetry’s potential for ‘harbouring otherness’ is linked to an hybridization whose site is also the literary text: poetry, and more specifically the poetic subgenre of the dramatic monologue, is adapted by Agbabi in order to host a dialogic, heteroglossic and novelized dimension.

This research aims to analyze the determinants of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to explain the intention of the behavior of accommodation in sustainable hotels. The research had characteristics of exploratory, quantitative, and inferential research, through the application of a survey, using the instrument of Han et al. (2010), reaching a total sample of 383 responses of Brazilian tourists. Data analysis was performed using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) technique estimated by Partial Least Squares (PLS). The results validated the perspectives of the TPB, with statistical significance for the relationships between the variables of attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavioral control in relation to the intention to stay in sustainable hotels. Attitudinal beliefs had the greatest influence of the intention to stay in sustainable hotels. These results have theoretical and practical implications, from the validation of the TPB literature to the intention of behavior of consumption of sustainable services, and the indication of the main determinant of the intention of hosting, which can result in more accurate marketing strategies and better economic and social results.

The migratory issues need to be deepened, not only from the human point of view, but also with regard to legal discipline. Asylum, a term of Greek origin ἄσυλον (ἱερόν), literally means without capture; in the Latin terminology asylum indicates a temple where there is no right of capture and is strictly bound to the Institute of Hospitality, defined by the Romans Hospitium Publicum (one of the first forms of public hospitality). Asylum and refugee status represent, therefore, two institutions that go back to the Greco-Roman age and that will be deepened juridically from the origins and their practical applications. The different interpretations regarding the discipline that have been developed in modern and contemporary history will be analyzed later, and in addition, it will be observed how these have finally been reinterpreted since the First and the Second World Conflicts and moreover since the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948.

Ravaged by war, persecution and poverty immigrants have immediate needs of food and water, medicine and shelter. Responding to these needs is the appropriate response of an ethical society. But needs become more complex over time, and hospitality is no longer adequate for building an inclusive society. We need to transform the city into an infrastructure of inclusion and integration, and this demands transformation in the social and spatial arrangements of the host city. We are seeking to advance this agenda through the UCSD Community Stations, a network of field hubs located in immigrant neighborhoods across the San Diego-Tijuana border region, where research, teaching and service are done collaboratively with community-activist partners. We believe that communities and universities can be meaningful partners to co-develop inclusive public spaces, where the construction of citizenship can be mobilized through cultural action.

The essay analyses the tension that, in Europe, characterizes the relationship between rights and borders and proposes an analysis of the processes of citizenship, sovereignty and construction of political identity through the perspective opened by the right of hospitality. This issue has never been so relevant as it is today, especially if it is the case that the problem posed by the growing phenomenon of migration in democratic and multi-ethnic societies, which are more and more involved in difficult relationships with 'outsiders', is bound to reappear, for good or for ill, on the level of social inclusion. Cities and migration is a topic which cannot be studied by one discipline, and which is enriched by a multi-level approach. It crosses, inside the area of migration studies, urban studies (geography, political science, and sociology), migration flows and stocks (mobility, settlement, and integration for demographers), public law and international relations (governance, international agreements, and cooperation). It is also relating to new actors, sometimes non-State actors, along with public policies. Sociology, political science, anthropology, geography, philosophy, history are questioned by a problematics which often opposes hospitality in towns and hostility from the migration State in an international landscape of crisis and emergency. The contradictions between the various levels in the decision-making process (local, municipal, regional, national, international) are many, although this topic gained visibility with the recent hospitality and solidarity developed by cities, sometimes transgressing national laws and policies facing with security, dissuasive and repressive approaches of Nation States. As migrants are more and more coming from urban areas to other urban areas in the South, as well in the North, cities are central actors in a multi-level approach of decision-making processes of flows and of living together. Cities are also the main space of Integration, highlighting discriminations, institutional racism, and other forms of exclusion but also emergence of close solidarities and creativity. The growing visibility of migrants in daily life is also questioning various forms of cohabitation.

In Mediterranean Europe there has been a notable increase in evictions and foreclosures in the past few years. During these processes, families are ‘locked out’ of their pasts – incorporated into walls, objects, relationships, but also a wider world built on the possibility of anticipating and imagining futures. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork in an informal neighborhood on the outskirts of Lisbon, I demonstrate that hospitality is capable, on the one hand, of re-connecting home and hope, and, on the other, of providing a convincing basis of regional comparison. My intention is to show that hospitality can be investigated as a «weapon of the weak».

This intervention aims to analyze the human and Christian vocation of woman, which is rooted and linked to her nature: she has a brain like man, but she also has a womb, and these two centers distinguish and connote her, in the natural feminine condition, created to receive love and give life: in her flesh, in her heart, in her spirit. Motherhood (both physical and spiritual, and indeed the highest form of motherhood is precisely the spiritual one) is like the pole towards which the spirituality of every woman is oriented, and in which her most authentic gifts of capacity to love are manifested: the donation of oneself, and the custody and care of those entrusted to her, to lead them to prepare themselves to welcome the action of God in their hearts. In questo contributo verrà approfondito il tema dell’ospitalità nell’ambito delle residenze aristocratiche tardoantiche, individuando, all’interno delle strutture abitative, nuclei di ambienti specificatamente destinati all’accoglienza dell’ospite. Nella prima parte il fenomeno verrà inquadrato negli ambiti più generali e ampiamente studiati dell'ospitalità e della pratica del convivium nella società tardoantica, dove la munificenza nei confronti dei convitati si esprime anche attraverso la predisposizione di alloggi riservati nella dimora. In questo tipo di approccio sarà fondamentale la documentazione delle fonti letterarie tardoantiche, che forniscono la testimonianza diretta da parte di esponenti dell’aristocrazia, pagani e cristiani, della pratica dell'ospitalità e delle conseguenze che questa consuetudine comporta nell'organizzazione dei percorsi e degli spazi residenziali all’interno delle dimore aristocratiche. Nella seconda parte saranno presi in considerazione alcuni casi studio significativi, fornendo una panoramica, per aree geografiche, dei settori interpretabili come appartamenti riservati agli ospiti all’interno delle ville aristocratiche tardoantiche. La parte conclusiva sarà dedicata all'esame del caso specifico dell'edificio di via Brisa a Milano, interpretabile come settore di rappresentanza/residenziale, di pertinenza del Palazzo Imperiale. The aim of this paper is to investigate the hospitality in Late Antiquity residential architecture, identifying specific sectors for the reception of guests. In the first part, the phenomenon will be framed in the more general and widely studied areas of hospitality and the practice of convivium in Late Antiquity, where the munificence towards the guests is expressed also through the arrangement of reserved lodgings in the dwelling. In this type of approach it will be fundamental the Late Antiquity literary sources, which provide direct evidence from interpreters of aristocracy, Pagans and Christians, of the practice of hospitality and the consequences that this custom entails in the organization of paths and residential spaces within the aristocratic mansion. In the second part, some significant case studies will be considered, providing an overview, by geographical area, of the sectors that can be interpreted as apartments reserved for guests. The final part will be dedicated to the examination of the specific case of the via Brisa building in Milan, which can be interpreted as a representative / residential sector belonging to the Imperial Palace.

Fraternity might seem a category absent from the religious tradition of the Tao. In reality this is not the case because Chinese wisdom always recalls the common origin of humanity and the fact that human beings must support each other. Educating today to fraternity, to a sense of welcome, hospitality and justice is possible to the extent that the action of faith takes shape with respect to good intentions. This essay tries to rethink the mission of the Church within the western cultural context. The path followed, which can avoid the drift of a mission colluded with violence as much as the one reducing it to dialogue in absence of truth, is that of the gift. It is showed how the Church is born from the divine gift and how one of the fundamental aspects of its mission consists in being in good reciprocity with the Father-giver, which is expressed in fraternal reciprocity. Nevertheless, the gift is received as such only if it is made available to others, in the same form. The Church then finds itself owing everyone (Rm 1,14) a proclamation, a charity practice a presence in the public space. In light of the paradigm of the gift we can see the connection linking such aspects of the mission and we can grasp, in the form of the gift, the way in which the mission of the Church turns out to be still plausible in the current cultural context. In this paper we will consider social and cultural markers that have traced the identity boundaries of Albanian nation. We will focus on two different types of identity markers: universal categories, such as ethnicity, language and religion, and ethical categories such as personal and family honor, respect, hospitality, courage, right conduct. This article proposes an ethnographic and anthropological reflection conducted in the context of a sociolinguistic investigation of the linguistic dynamics between locals and asylum seekers in the Aosta Valley. The analysis of language practices involving migrants and local actors offers a series of elements that prove useful, in addition to those deriving from ethnographic observation, in clarifying the relationship between practices and rhetorics of hospitality. Investigating the linguistic dynamics, in fact, allowed to bring out opaqueness, ambiguity and contradictory and ambivalent rhetoric in the narratives of those involved, with varied positions and roles, in the hospitality process. On the one hand, we will highlight a paternalistic language based on an asymmetrical logic of expectations that structures the relationship between different figures, even in a positive context of widespread hospitality. Furthermore, we will focus on how the hospitality system, that structurally relies on voluntary activities, acts through rhetoric and practices of discharging of responsibilities on the individual level, being it represented by a migrant who must demonstrate autonomy, or a volunteer, to whom it is often delegated the difficult task of accompanying the path of integration. The article takes into consideration and tries to integrate the task of the hospitality towards migrants in the reception centres and the group training processes of the professionals working with them. Difficulties, protections and phenomena that emerge from these settings will be analysed, with particular attention to the group dinamics and processes, considered both in the community life and in the training and supervision contexts. In the subsequent reflections, as in the methodologies applied on the field, the authors investigate a possible integration between operational psychoanalysis, mainly referring to the works of Pichon-Rivière and Bleger, group approach and some elements from the etnopsichiatry school. The article proposes a comparative analysis of three different contexts and management of hospitality for asylum seekers on the Italian-Slovenian border since the reopening in 2015 of the so-called "Balkan route" as an overland door to Europe. Through interviews and participant observation, we highlight the differences among a CARA in Gradisca, confined in a large militarized barrack on the margins of social life, a SPRAR system in the Villaggio del Pescatore, founded by a former WW2 refugee's community, and the efficient model of widespread hospitality in Trieste that distributes migrants in apartments with coordinated self-management. However, the scenario of Trieste also includes an illegal settlement in another historical place of previous forced migrations, where migrants try to escape the dichotomous logic of assistance vs. rejection in order to strategically position themselves in a gray area within the liminal space between the authoritarian and humanitarian regime. The interpretation of micro-contexts clearly highlights the outcome of divergent choices, both in terms of the organization and management of hospitality (large militarized and confined center vs. widespread hospitality and SPRAR), and in terms of the different media and political representations, with an impact on the daily lives of migrants, citizens and workers involved. In her thought-provoking article: “Kant’s Nomads: Encountering Strangers”, Katrin Flikschuh pursues three aims: I- to loosen the noose of the Kantian duty of state entrance against the repeated allegations of its inflexible universality; II- to rescue Kant from a certain “belligerent” liberal discourse that has overlooked his ambivalence on the question, at the expense of his potentially constructive insights; III- to articulate the possibility of an encounter with deep and permanent differences in culture or a “reflexive openness” that can help us face the “culturally unfamiliar”. Its success relies upon reading Kant’s philosophy as proceeding from a first-personal experiential standpoint, that is, a regressive strategy of justification. Though sympathetic to Flikschuh’s project, this paper wishes to examine to what extent it is compatible with the Kantian theory of the State, on the one hand, and his transcendental idealism, on the other. In the end, it may be that Kant’s openness to the other (i.e. the nomad), however sincere, remains transitory at best.

In this essay I discuss the issue of Kantian hospitality and how Katrin Flikschuh’s arguments in “Kant’s Nomads: Encountering Strangers” offer us a framework for dealing with certain problems that seem to arise out of the Kantian account, namely, problems of dealing with cultures unlike modern liberal states, such as nomadic and indigenous communities. I look at some criticisms of Kant’s position on hospitality and cosmopolitan right and on how Flikschuh’s discussion helps to resolve these criticisms. I focus especially on her discussion of respectful interaction and openness in the course of encountering cultural others, encounters that inherently and positively contain a large element of unexpectedness.

This article looks at the theme of hospitality with a focus on the work of two twentieth-century French philosophers, Emmanuel Levinas and Jacques Derrida. It begins with a presentation of some of Levinas’ Jewish writings relevant to the theme. These writings display Levinas’ understanding of the nature of freedom in regard to the other, who holds me hostage. Yet, the article argues, this leaves Levinas still to some extent bound by the I, even the I as hostage. The dilemma is further investigated with reference to Jacques Derrida, starting with his own reflections on Levinas. The article then outlines Derrida’s own ideas on hospitality, asking how to reconcile the impossible demands of pure hospitality with the conditional forms it takes in our societies. The conclusion asks what the two writers have to say to European societies in their current encounters with refugees and migrants.

An ethical approach to migration has to face the complex reality of irregular immigration as a challenge to the protection of the borders by sovereign states. The situation in Europe since 2015 has led to a rise of populism and to a polarization of the political debate in many countries. On the other hand, the presence of asylum seekers has also triggered new expressions of solidarity. The article explores the levels of responsibility of persons and institutions concerned by the need for humanitarian aid and for the administration of applications for asylum according to the rule of law and international commitments. The ideal of hospitality can help to support just and fair procedures without being the answer to all questions. Individual and structural degrees of action have to be distinguished. Religious beliefs play a particular role in the ongoing European debate on strangers, borders and human rights. In the decades between the 19th and 20th century, Lake Maggiore was one of the most coveted holiday destinations, not only for its mild climate and healthy air quality, but also for its natural and artistic attractions. The area of Verbania became a fashionable place: the number of “de tout premier ordre” hotels grew considerably in some of the villages along the lake shores, offering hospitality to extremely selected clients that included not only crowned heads and the European high aristocracy, but also industrial and financial tycoons from the Americas. These hotels were built according to the standards of the “hôtellerie de luxe”, with a grand display of domes, attics, friezes, and magnificent pomposity in the interiors. Of course, they also featured modern “comforts” such as central heating, electric lighting, lifts and en-suite rooms. Those were the years of the Belle Époque, Universal Expositions, the Liberty style, of “automobiles” replacing carriages and of international globetrotters who used to meet in the halls of “grand hotels” to see and be seen, to somehow feel reassured that they were at the heart of that vibrant, though often ephemeral, world. The hotels in Stresa, Baveno, Pallanza, Locarno and Brissago were up to these expectations and offered guests a sumptuous and joyful hospitality, until the war broke out and marked the beginning of their decline. This essay offers an approach to the theme of hospitality in a biblico-theological perspective. Hospitality and theoxenia are two literary genres that are seen also in extra-biblical literature and so, first we attempt to identify the specific elements of these literary genres in some extra-biblical literature. Secondly, following the study of Gen 18,1-15, we try to identify a symbolic grammar and a specific structure proper to the literary genres of hospitality and theoxenia. From the results obtained, a comparative analysis is made between Gen 18,1-15 and Gen 19,1-29. And finally we verify the theological intentionality of Luke by utilizing the above literary genres within Lk 7,36- 50. It is not just a question of applying the methods, of analysis of the literary genre, but of identifying within the biblical stories the hints of the literary genres theoxenia and hospitality and their intentionality in the chosen pericopes of study. Abstract – The phenomenon of migration is one of the things which has had the greatest influence on the history of humanity, involving millions of people. Today men and women of all ages, mostly young people from economically disadvantaged areas of the planet, migrate from one continent to another, for economic, political or religious reasons. They move towards geopolitical areas which are economically and politically less troubled, leaving others where the living conditions are no longer possible. In some cases, it is a question of looking for better conditions of existence (economic causes); in other cases of mere survival (political and religious causes). Both for operational reasons and of interpretation, it is necessary to distinguish between the causes of expulsion and the consequent migration types. It is important to understand whether we are facing migration of a political or an economic nature, but it should be noted, also, that it is increasingly difficult to distinguish between politics and economics. It is a movement that creates upheaval and irreversible processes in both the countries of departure and destination. We are therefore facing a historical process of enormous importance that contributes to change the human geography and the international scene. We are facing two large economic and political areas: one of expulsion and another of attraction, with two very different types of living conditions. Every generation enjoys a condition of life and existence merely because it is born in one place rather than in another; an ascribed status that can even prevent attempts at all forms of mobility. A geographical area that is seeing its attractiveness increase is that of the EU; partly because of its colonial history, but also because of its geo-economic-political position, and also recently because of the upheavals following the fall of regimes in Eastern Europe and in the Middle East.

Coastal tourism destinations are reinventing themselves, concentrating on product improvement and image enhancement. Reinventing sustainably is key and restaurants are an important factor. Research upon the processes of change in the industry seems to be fragmented and undefined in its conclusions. Knowledge is lacking on what specifically drives innovation in the hospitality industry. Since restaurants seem to be focusing more than ever on implementing green strategies, incorporating sustainability into restaurant practices is not an unexplored area. However, the how and why it is incorporated or not, can be different per restaurant. The objective of this study is to identify possibilities of change in restaurateur practices, which can lead to interventions that will foster sustainable destination development in Vrouwenpolder; a coastal destination within the Netherlands. For the identification of interventions that could advance the sustainability enacted in restaurateur practices, a qualitative research was conducted. Practices of restaurateurs in Vrouwenpolder are identified and compared to perceived-to-be ideal practices. Analysis of data collection draws on practice theory, and resulted into recommendations for advancing the sustainability enacted in restaurateur practices. It seems to be that primarily the meaning within a practice is decisive in whether sustainability is integrated or not.

This paper proposes an innovative approach towards introduction of an up-to-date sustainable development philosophy founded on the principles of combination and balance of common and individual interests on multilateral perspective, i.e. individuals vs. organizations, public groups vs. governmental authorities, industry vs. macroeconomic development, nation states vs. international regional development etc. The optimal implementation of such an approach is imminently dependent on an authentic self-awareness of own identity, values, purposes and motivation for positive contribution to the common well-being. The author’s arguments are based on the conviction that when more individuals and organizations harness deeper understanding of the mutual benefits within their operations area and undertake collaborative efforts to solve common problem their steadfast long-term development may be secured even in times of social-economic-political-eco-etc. crises and within a dynamically changing environment.Main purpose of current article is the concentration of the research on looking for and applying the principles of consistency, exchange of good collaborative practices and consequently strategic and operational utilization of the synergy effect, systems thinking and the holistic approach. Collaborative efforts would lead to greater effectiveness and optimization that satisfies individual and common interests in multiple environmental dimensions. The study aims to analyze the potential of a new network paradigm for provision of effectively applied strategies within the contemporary sustainable development context.Some good practices within the area of joint development of sustainable strategic networks in tourism industry in Bulgaria are presented. A case study of a culinary and hospitality cluster recently established in the Dobrudzha region is about to demonstrates the strategic network viability and sustainability in a contemporary agricultural geographic context.

An emerging concept in accommodations in the travel industry called Shared Living is blurring the lines between hospitality and residential living and is moving the industry towards greater ecological and social sustainability. Changing trends brought about by the sustainability challenge, climate change, technological advancements and increasing affluence and cultural awareness are disrupting the tourism industry. Meeting clients’ needs for Leisure and Relaxation is not enough. Increasingly sustainability-conscious travelers expect their fundamental needs of Participation, Creation and Identity to be fulfilled as well. Today’s travelers want to do more than eat, sleep and sightsee – they want to interact with the local communities they are visiting. But traditional accommodations offer little opportunity for travelers to engage with fellow travelers or local communities. Emerging trends in accommodations are increasingly connecting travelers to the people, organizations and projects that are changing lives and transforming communities. By understanding and adapting to the trends, the tourism industry can both contribute towards ecological social sustainability and reap the business benefits presented by the sustainability challenge of our time.

This paper shows the results of the research fellowship project “Città Inclusiva/Città Sicura”1 aimed at defining strategies to promote urban safety. The research project used a specific methodological approach to implement a prototype model for urban safety management. It proposed the development of an action plan for a model of inclusive and safe city drawing on the French ESSP (Public Safety and Security Studies). The plan includes a series of actions of spatial and functional regeneration of the existing assets optimizing the relationship with the new infrastructures of dialogue and reception. Furthermore, it could contribute to solving the problems related to the physical, technological and environmental adaptation of urban contexts.

In the following pages, I don't discuss the philosophy of natural law, but the opposite philosophy: the philosophy of a new historicism, in which all the ideals of law and politics are still strong and alive, when are denied. Two examples: the hospitality and the overcoming of cosmopolitism. Sub 1. Everybody has the right to present himself as a guest. Everybody has the duty to give hospitality. Sub 2. The cosmopolitism isn't far from his negation. And the negation, in terms of theoretic and practical philosophy of law and politics, refuses the particularity without universality and the universality without particularity: two abstractions, if disunited. A nursing research project including a series of qualitative surveys was set up to investigate how a care-team culture of hospitality and the use of some relational tools could, through a structured approach, have positive effects on patients starting the dialysis treatment pathway. A structured hospitality approach addressed to new-entry patients seems to activate important prerequisites for patient care perception. The research showed that the lack of a personally addressed hospitality approach would not be limited to neutral effects but might have harmful effects on patients' self-care attitude as well, producing different patient outcomes, both clinically and in their interaction with the dialysis setting. The will to stimulate self-empowerment and self-esteem seems to be clearly perceived and appreciated by the patients, and this was confirmed by the collected quality data. The evidence emerging from this study tells us that a care-team culture oriented towards valuing hospitality, which in this case had been implemented in various organizational steps and ways, may have positive effects on care outcomes -- not only for the individual patient but also the care-team members -- by activating a high satisfaction rebound.
