This study aims at examining the phraseology of international disarmament treaties, through a comparative French-Italian case study, in a complementary perspective with a previous study on the terminology of this domain. The legal effectiveness of international disarmament treaties, as well as international efforts towards general and complete disarmament under international control, are subject to the consent of States to be bound by these treaties. Consequently, difficulties in the translation processes required in a multilingual and multicultural environment, such as that of international cooperation, cannot by any means hinder the application of international disarmament provisions. Furthermore, despite the high relevance and the strong impact they produce on international peace and security, the domain of disarmament still remains unexplored in the French-Italian language combination. Consequently, this study focuses on the phraseology of the legal language of disarmament treaties, in an attempt to fill the existing gaps in literature and to ensure their legal effectiveness also through the specificity and accuracy of their linguistic expression. The proposed methodological approach consists of three steps: 1) the analysis of the linguistic and conceptual dimension of the disarmament domain, in a bilingual perspective; 2) the implementation of a new specialised terminological resource on disarmament, named DITTO (Disarmament International Treaties TerminOlogy), freely accessible for consultation; 3) a translation exercise of the main international disarmament treaties for methodological validation purposes.

Weaving together celebrity studies and film festival studies, the essay underscores how the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the stars’ presence, mode of appearance, and employment within the rituals of film festivals and awards ceremonies. It also touches upon the way COVID-19 has impacted the relationship between film stars and their public within such events and how this relationship has been rethought also through the exploitation of Internet technologies. To this end, the essay benefits from interviews conducted with the artistic directors of the main Italian film festivals and awards ceremonies as well as with film stars that have attended such events under these unprecedented circumstances. More precisely, after providing a general outline of the changes that occurred within Italian film festivals and awards ceremonies during 2020 and how they have impacted the self-promotion of film stars, the essay focuses on two key events of the Italian awards and festival season: the David di Donatello awards ceremony and the Venice Film Festival.

Plastics are non-biodegradable polymers made up of different groups of petrochemical materials. Several biotic and abiotic factors can change the density of plastic fragmenting it and originating microplastics (MPs). MPs have been defined as small pieces of plastic less than 5 mm in size. Due to their small size, they are an emerging concern in the marine environment since they can be ingested by aquatic organisms, especially filter-feeding organisms, such as bivalve mollusks. Impacts of MPs exposure have been shown at various levels of biological organization, from cellular to tissue to individual and population levels. For example, oxidative stress and inflammation have been observed in copepods and mussels, obstruction and physical damage of the digestive tract were found in fish and swimming behavior alterations, disruption of foraging and feeding behavior and overall reduced fitness and survival were observed in fish and oysters. In addition, MPs can act as a vector for the transfer of chemicals to marine biota. The aim of the present study was the identification and quantification of potential MPs in shellfish harvested in Sardinia (Italy) by using transillumination stereomicroscopy. Bivalves were collected from 4 of the main production areas located along the Sardinian coast and selected according to the principles of the risk assessment. The results of the present study demonstrated the presence of potential MPs in 70% of the analyzed samples: the presence of MPs in bivalve mollusks may pose a threat to food safety, and there is an urgent need to evaluate the potential risks of MPs to human health.

This article looks at the presence and function of animals in the dramatic works of Sarah Kane, a recognized protagonist of the experimental theatre scene in Britain and abroad. The by now massive scholarship on Kane has tended to see her work as epitomizing the move beyond the dramatic paradigm famously theorized by Hans-Thies Lehmann, and as equally marked by increasingly dehumanised constructions of subjectivity that culminate in the disembodied theatrical landscapes of her late plays. The research presented here addresses a hitherto unexplored dimension to Kane’s joint engagement with the boundaries of subjectivity and the boundaries of theatre, namely, the pervasive presence of animals across her entire oeuvre and their thought-provoking intersections with the human subjects with whom they share the stage. Through a combination of textual and performance analysis, I chart the complex, changing configurations of this relationship of co-habitation and mutual implication, offering an extensive discussion of the role of animals as key players in Kane’s dramaturgy of simulacra.

Neonatal medicine has shown major advances in the past 50 years and this progress has allowed the increased survival, with less morbidity, of extremely preterm and critically ill neonates. Despite some conditions being unique to the neonatal population, neonatologists often have the need to adapt currently approved therapies from other populations. Certain diseases have such a wide variability in phenotype and response to drug therapy that it has become urgent to understand the underlying sources of variability, including genetics. Precision medicine concerns the application of patient-specific profiles, through the determination and incorporation of genetic data, clinical and environmental factors, to determine individual risks and thus provide the most accurate point-of-care in disease management and prevention. In this review, we discuss the current available knowledge concerning the applicability of precision medicine in different neonatology fields, such as newborn screening, neonatal nutrition, renal injury, hemodynamic assessment, lung pathology, epilepsy and neonatal pharmacology. To this end, the authors conducted a literature search of the PubMed® repositories, mainly using the terms “neonatology”, “individualized medicine”, “precision medicine”, “personalized medicine”, “genomics” and “metabolomics”. This article provides a summarized review of the research that is being conducted in numerous neonatal domains. But how can this new research be integrated in clinical practice? Although some areas are already being used in neonatologists’ daily activity, others, like genomics and metabolomics, seem to be limited to the investigational field. Even though the groundwork in such fields seems promising, its clinical utility and availability are still unknown. Further studies are needed, and the creation of a worldwide database, with the purpose of sharing patient data and outcomes, could be an important step for this evolving science.

The pilot study precedes a broader research aimed at identifying the effects on parenting and development of children between 0 and 3 years old (REC 2013/112 / EU), of an Italian policy against poverty. The goal is to describe the effects of introducing a specific parenting assessment tool (Roggman et al., 2013), in a participatory key, on socio-educational practices with vulnerable families with children aged 0 to 3. The results were obtained through semi-structured interviews with 19 professionals involved in a research-training-action experience. They indicate an improvement in observation skills and — the most significant — the creation of a new space for dialogue and reflection on parenting and children development. This latter reveals to be a scarcely addressed area in the context of policy interventions against poverty. Pedagogical, methodological and communicative challenges that emerge from the results are discussed.

Starting from the case of parabolic motion, this contribution proposes a comparison and analysis of a historical text, some high school physics textbooks and one university textbook, from mathematical, physical, and linguistic points of view. The analysis shows how school textbooks, marked by disciplinary autonomy, have lost the intrinsic interdisciplinary dimension of historical texts. The university textbook is a synthesis of and a compromise between these divergent approaches. The results of the analysis represent a first starting point for the planning of targeted educational interventions and an important step to achieve interdisciplinarity in the school context between language education and science subjects.

State of alarm is one of the three states of emergency, together with the state of emergency and the state of siege, provided by the Spanish Constitution, scarcely mentioned in comparative constitutional law. It is declared by the Government in cases of natural disasters, health or technological crises, when public essential services are paralysed and certain requirements are met, or when there is shortage of goods of primary necessity. The decree declaring the state of alarm places all security forces (including those regional and local) and all administrative personnel under the authority of the national government –or the President of a Region–. The state of alarm provides the basis to adopt extraordinary measures, to a proportionate and necessary extent, to address the crisis –excluding those, which consist in suspension of the fundamental rights enshrined in article 55.1 of the Constitution: state of alarm only entails fundamental rights to be limited, but not suspended. These measures, therefore, may refer to certain restrictions of freedom of movement and circulation, requisition of necessary goods and imposition of compulsory personal services, purchasing primary goods limitation or restriction in the use of public essential services –which do not exceed the scope of the ordinary executive power–. The present study carries out an analysis of the constitutional and legal framework of the state of alarm, its origins and meaning from an historical, political and comparative law point of view. It also provides a critical view of both decrees declaring the state of alarm, in 2010 in response to the closing of the Spanish air space due to the massive abandon of their obligations by the air traffic controllers and in 2020, in order to face the coronavirus COVID-19 global pandemic crisis, bearing in mind the constitutional requirements to limitation or suspension of fundamental rights.

The links between design and the forces of capitalism, while contingent conditions of practice, are easily elided in architectural discourse. An architectural poster-child of neoliberalism, Canary Wharf, was conceived at a time when global financial markets were deregulating, real estate developers were looking across oceans for more prestigious downtown redevelopment projects, and architectural practices split responsibilities in complex arrangements between a lead designer and teams of consultants. What this article seeks to investigate is a more nuanced understanding of the contingent relationships among the increasing financialization of real estate, a political tide-shift, and the ways in which architects responded to these conditions, both in their designs and in the organization of their practices. How was the financial risk understood, and to what was it seen to be contingent?

The aims of this paper were to collect and analyse preliminary data of phytoplankton in the water, biotoxins, Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Vibrio spp. and microplastic eventually present in farmed mussels, and to acquire information about the production capability from an experimental pilot farm of the Calich Lagoon. Two sampling sessions were carried out, in February and in May 2019, also monitoring the water condition (pH, temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll a). No potentially toxic algae were detected, and moreover no biotoxins (Paralytic Shellfish Poison, Diarrheic Shellfish Poison, Amnesic Shellfish Poison) were found in mussels. E.coli was present with the highest concentration in February (16000 MPN/100g e.p.). Salmonella and Vibrio spp. have not been detected. Almost a microplastic per grams was found, mainly fiber of different colours. Further studies, carried out for several months, will allow to better understand the possible problems related to the production of mussels in a lagoon not yet classified as a shellfish production area.

The most common congenital craniofacial anomalies are labial-alveolo-palatal clefts. Infants with these deformities may have problems and limitations with breathing, feeding, speaking, hearing, as well as psychological problems. The treatment protocol for these patients is carried out using an interdisciplinary approach. Thus, in addition to surgical reconstruction, presurgical neonatal orthopedics have shown considerable advantages in the treatment of such malformations. Recently, presurgical nasoalveolar molding (PNAM) has been introduced to prevent nasal deformities, and to obtain a satisfactory surgical result and good psychological reintegration. This article describes, through 2 clinical cases, the technique of preparation of PNAMs, their surgical and clinical advantages, as well as the role of a multidisciplinary approach in effectively managing disorders related to labio-alveolo-palatal clefts.

Introduction: Periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) is an important cause of preterm newborn’s cerebral white matter disease. This study assessed neurodevelopmental outcomes of children with PVL and its etiologic subgroups. Methods: Retrospective review of medical records of children with PVL diagnosis born at a tertiary center between 1996 and 2016. Subjects were divided into two groups according to the most likely etiology of PVL (ischemic versus infectious) using a classification system of risk factors. The neurologic and development outcomes were reviewed. Results: A total of 34 newborns with a median gestational age of 29 weeks were selected. Sixteen newborns (51.6%) were included in the ischemic group, while 15 (48.4%) were included in the infectious group; a clear group classification was not possible in 3 cases. PVL was moderate to severe in 73.5% of cases. Cerebral palsy (CP) developed in 69.7% of the children, 29% had epilepsy and 15.6% were microcephalic. Children with moderate to severe PVL were significantly more impaired than children with mild PVL (p < 0.05). Moderate to severe PVL was observed in 93.3% of the children in the infectious group and 71.4% in the ischemic group (p = 0.12). Children in the infectious group were more prone to abnormal development and CP, while children in the ischemic group had more epilepsy and hearing impairment than the infectious group. Discussion: Infection may be an important etiologic factor regarding severe forms of PVL. The infectious group presented a higher incidence of CP, which may be related to more severe white matter injuries. The ischemic group presented more epilepsy, suggesting the involvement of gray matter disease.

The role of cities in building more sustainable food systems is already recognized and related to other urban domains, such as transport, health, land use planning for agriculture and multifunctional areas, community development, employment generation and waste management. The implications of these on urban planning and practice are however less evident. A proper spatialization of the food system and of its metabolic flows is missing, inhibiting their necessary readings for urban design. This paper addresses this gap. After introducing the concept of food system and discussing its spatial components – production, transformation, distribution, commercialization/consumption and waste management – we expose how a set of food-related activities and initiatives are shaping the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. The socio-ecological metabolic flows established by these operations on the ground and their sustainability impacts are established, based on the analysis of five municipalities: Lisbon, Oeiras, Alcochete, Palmela and Montijo. The results reveal how food is already an opportunity for the creation of jobs, healthy food markets and the promotion of land productivity, in particular on a micro scale. The paper recognizes the importance of localized food systems and their particular metabolic flows, capable of boosting opportunities to overcome physical and social obstacles and to increase the possibilities for urban planning to target the urban food system on a wider scale. Finally, it concludes that the overall food system of a metropolitan area is more than the sum of the several food systems operating in that same region.

34. Le mot et l’orage. La poésie concrète de Pierre Garnier

This article aims at describing Pierre Garnier’s itinerary from traditional, linear poetry, to concrete, visual poetry. Born as a reaction to the mainstream political-oriented poetry campaigned by Aragon, French concrete poetry is characterised by the use of language as “matter”, namely by the aim to destroy the linear syntax of discursive communication. Thus, poetry can become fully “universal”, no longer needing any form of translation. Garnier experiments during the Sixties and the Seventies include juxtapositions of letters (Poèmes mécaniques) and the combination of ideograms and Latin alphabet (Poèmes franco-japonais). The radicalisation of these attempts is a form of poetry which is very close to silence, almost devoid of linguistic signs and thus very close to pictorial art.

This paper discusses the existing urban-rural dichotomy in Portuguese urban planning, assuming its importance on food-provision, a basic human need. Our analysis stems from an historical overview at two scales, regional and municipal, within the Lisbon Region. Specifically, we identify key changes between two time-periods : the mid-twentieth century, when design-based planning was established in Portugal for larger settlements, and nowadays, when it covers the totality of the national territory, based on land-use. We review these strategies, assessing what approaches would best encompass a sustainable transition of the food system. We start with the scheme of regional radial axis by architect Étienne de Gröer in contrast with the 2002 Lisbon Regional Plan. We furthermore expose two urbanization plans from 1940s : that of Vila Franca de Xira (1946) by Miguel Jacobetty and Faria da Costa and that of Palmela (1948) by João António Aguiar. Such plans, highly representative of the planning practices of that era, are then compared with their contemporary counterparts and subsequently with samples of their physical impacts on the ground, based on a morphological analysis of settlements and productive spaces in urban and rural contexts. Finally, we identify key changes for better use of productive soils within the Lisbon Region, considering challenges posed by international and national agendas.

The paper presents the work done during the two editions of the Summer School that took place in Lampedusa in 2017 and 2018, organized by the Italian Association of Sociology – Environment and Territory Section. The aim of the paper is twofold. Firstly, it aims to illustrate the results of the data analysis and field observation carried out by the participants of the School. They consist of a multi-faceted description of the Island, with special attention to its different populations (residents, city users and especially migrants), and of some resulting project proposals. Secondly, the essay aims to promote a practice based on study and training, which is typical of the sociological analysis of territory, and that can provide useful insight on the studied places and to the people of Lampedusa, within a broader vision of justice and social sustainability.

Education - Abstract

Evidence suggests that the practice of physical activity (PA) is positively related to academic performance in adolescents. However, there is little information about whether the improvements affect in the same way in all subjects according to the weekly level of PA at a moderate-vigorous intensity (MVPA). The objective was to describe and see the relationship that exists between the weekly practice of MVPA with the academic performance of young students between 12 and 16 years old. A descriptive design was used. MVPA and the subjects’ marks were evaluated through a sociodemographic questionnaire. The results showed significance in the children where they perform more MVPA than the girls during the week. On the other hand, in both sexes, it was statistically significant to have better grades in physical education (PE) with the increase in weekly MVPA. No significant differences were found in the subjects of language, mathematics and english or french. Therefore, the practice of daily and weekly MVPA is a way to improve the marks in the subject of PE, apart from the benefits it has for health. Future studies are required to contrast this study with a higher sample or even measure some cognitive variables.

The aim of this study was to analyse the short-term effect of 16 minutes of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) in the selective care of children diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This study has a randomized experimental design. The sample consisted of 20 children diagnosed with ADHD (6-12 years). The control group (n = 10) watched a documentary video and the experimental group (n = 10) did 16 minutes HIIT with cardiac monitor (80-95% maximum heart rate). Selective attention was measured using the d2 test. The analysis of repeated measures ANOVA 2 times (pre-test vs. post-test) × 2 groups (control group vs. experimental group). The results have shown that practicing 16 minutes of HIIT has an effect of immediate improvement in attention, decreasing the number of omissions and errors and increasing the number of correct answers. It is concluded that performing 16 minutes of HIIT improves immediate selective attention in school children diagnosed with ADHD. It is recommended to promote the practice of physical exercise in the educational context, specifically, to perform 16 minutes of HIIT at the beginning of the school day. This exercise of short duration and that does not require great material or human resources could help to improve the attention and motivation of children in class.

General Works - Abstract
In this essay, I will offer some brief considerations on how the bodily metaphor is particularly apt to a critical reading of Tobias Smollett’s The Expedition of Humphry Clinker on several and diverse levels. More specifically, I will focus (i) on the fluid generic status of the novel and on its position within the corpus of eighteenth-century British fiction; (ii) on the writing and reading of the nation’s body considered in its relationship with the structure of the novel; and (iii) on the city/country relationship as it emerges in the description of London, which, I suggest, can be read in parallel with George Cheyne’s considerations in The English Malady. In fact, as I will argue, for both his Scottishness and his practice of «medicine-by-post» (Wild 2006), Cheyne is a key figure to investigate several aspects of Humphry Clinker.

This essay considers Tim Crouch's "I Shakespeare", a suite of monologue plays based on "The Tempest" ("I, Caliban", 2003), "A Midsummer Night's Dream" ("I, Peaseblossom", 2004), "Macbeth" ("I, Banquo", 2005), "Twelfth Night" ("I, Malvolio", 2010) and "Julius Caesar" ("I, Cinna (the poet)", 2012). While originally designed for a young audience, Crouch's adaptations have been performed in a variety of theatrical contexts that have added new and probably unforeseen dimensions to their negotiations with Shakespeare. In my analysis I turn to the notion of mobility as a key analytical tool to elucidate the method, aims, as well as the broader cultural meaning of Tim Crouch's reworkings. In his hands, Shakespeare is mobilized as a powerful resource to activate spectators and emphasize their co-authorship in the process of theatre. Through a combination of textual strategies and performance methods, the monologues construct the identities of Shakespeare's characters as multiple and mutable and, in parallel, cast their addressees in fluid, often contradictory roles. My main line of argument is that the plays' propensity of motion is rooted in their emphasis on Shakespeare as a highly mobile cultural signifier which seems confirmed by the monologues' journeys outside the UK. The further adaptational practices triggered by these encounters with foreign audiences are testament to the flexibility of Crouch's dramaturgy of process and its aptitude to accommodate new discursive identities and adjust to each new context of reception.

Acknowledging the educational potential of linguistic landscapes, this paper sets out to: - identify the foreign languages present in the Avenida Lourenço Peixinho in Aveiro (Portugal) and the linguistic landscape signs in which they appear; - propose an interdisciplinary set of activities for the exploration of the linguistic landscape in the Avenida. To address these aims, an exploratory case study was conducted. Photographic data was collected in the Avenida and it was subject to content analysis. The analysis of the linguistic landscape displayed shows that English is the foreign language with the greatest presence and that the diversity of languages is low with a scarce presence of immigration languages such as Chinese. This exploratory experience was the basis for the creation of an interdisciplinary set of pedagogical activities (involving English, Spanish, History and Geography subjects) aimed at secondary education, providing some suggestions to explore linguistic landscapes as educational resources for the purposes of increasing students and educational community’s awareness concerning linguistic and cultural diversity.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of Salmonella spp. in the Sardinian pig production chain in order to establish the incidence of monophasic serovariant of Salmonella Typhimurium on isolates with molecular methods (real-time PCR and multiplex PCR). Samples were collected in three EC slaughterhouses, four small slaughterhouses annexed to farmhouses, one meat distribution center, four meat cutting laboratories and four sausage processing plants. A total of 166 samples were collected and analyzed: 46 environmental samples, 48 finishing pigs, 16 piglets, 24 samples of non-processed meat, 28 meat preparations and 4 meat products. All samples were processed with an initial screening using the real-time PCR MicroSEQ® Salmonella spp detection Kit (Applied biosystems, life technologies) and with the TaqMan® Real-time PCR to confirm the kit results. Samples that tested positive for Salmonella spp were confirmed with cultural method using the standard ISO 6579. Positive samples were submitted to phenotypic identification. One colony from each positive sample was serotyped with multiplex PCR method. Salmonella spp was isolated in 7 on 166 samples (4.22 %). Among the positive samples, two came from finishing pigs, two belonged to the category meat preparations, two to meat products, one was an environmental sample. Multiplex PCR confirmed that the collected strains belonged to the species Salmonella Typhimurium (1), Salmonella derby (3) and monophasic serovariant of Salmonella Typhimurium (3).

Education - Abstract

French reception of Dante throughout the centuries is generally marked by rejection, at least until the first generation of Romantic poets, led by Madame de Staël, rediscovered the Divine Comedy through Rivarol’s translation. Dante’s fame, however, remained mostly connected to the idea of a dark and unreadable poet. This article aims at showing how Jacqueline Risset’s translation of the Divine Comedy, as well as her essay Dante écrivain, might have led the way to a new vision of the poem.
