Educational settings are increasingly encountering new family configurations, including same-sex families, which are becoming more and more common in the last decades. The widespread homonegativity that still characterizes attitudes towards LGBT+ individuals in Italy, coupled with the absence of specific laws safeguarding and recognizing the role of the non-biological parent, leaves pedagogists, teachers, and educators to grapple with new demands and new responsibilities. This article provides an overview of same-sex families in Italy and offers operational tools and best practices to promote inclusivity of offspring from same-sex families within the educational system. The aim is to overcome discrimination that this segment of the population still faces.

Microplastics (MPs) are a relevant threat to food safety because they are ingested by humans through various foods. Bivalves are at high risk of microplastic contamination due to their filter-feeding mechanism and pose a risk to consumers as they are ingested whole. In this work, microplastics were detected, quantified, identified, and classified in samples of mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis) and oysters (Crassostrea gigas) marketed in the Apulia region. The total number of plastic debris was 789 particles in the mussel samples and 270 particles in the oyster samples, with size ranging from 10 to 7350 µm. Fragments with size within the category of 5-500 µm were the predominant findings in both species, with blue as the predominant color in mussels and transparent in oysters; most of the debris was polyamide and nylon polymers in the mussels and chlorinated polypropylene in the oysters. These results show that mussel and oyster samples purchased at fish markets are contaminated with microplastics. The sources may be diverse and further studies are needed to assess the impact of the marketing stage on microplastic contamination in bivalves to better define the human risk assessment associated with microplastic exposure from bivalves consumption.

The absence of morphological identification characters, together with the complexity of the fish supply chain make processed seafood vulnerable to cases of species substitution. Therefore, the authentication and the traceability of such products play a strategic role in ensuring quality and safety. The aim of the present study was to detect species used in the production of multi-species fish burgers and to evaluate mislabelling rates, using a DNA metabarcoding approach by sequencing a fragment of the 16S rRNA mitochondrial gene. The study highlighted the presence of 16 marine and 2 mammalian taxa with an overall mislabelling rate of 80%, including cases of species substitution, the undeclared presence of molluscs and of taxa whose use is not permitted by current Italian legislation. The presence of swine DNA as well as the inclusion of undeclared taxa potentially causing allergies raise concerns regarding consumer safety and protection regarding ethical or religious issues. Overall, the study shows that the application of DNA metabarcoding is a promising approach for successfully enforcing traceability systems targeting multi-species processed food and for supporting control activities, as a guarantee of an innovative food safety management system.

Food safety critically reliant on the behaviors adopted by foodservice personnel, involved in various stages of meal preparation, from the supply of raw food materials until its distribution to the consumer. The purpose of this work was to collect information on the level of knowledge on food safety, the correct application of the Good Hygiene Practices (GHP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and the attitudes of the operators involved in collective catering. The survey was conducted among 15 social catering companies in Apulia (Italy) using a modified Sharif and Al-Malki (2010) anonymous questionnaire intended to assess the knowledge, attitudes and practices of the food handlers. The results highlight the need to improve both knowledge and practices regarding food hygiene and safety in order to minimize the risk of transmitting foodborne diseases. More careful planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of training programs for foodservice workers is required, taking into consideration the provisions of European food laws.

The paper aims to explore the theatrical success of Irène Némirovsky’s work, analysing in particular two Italian productions: Il Ballo, conceived and performed by Sonia Bergamasco, and the play Jezabel, adapted from the namesake novel by Maddalena Mazzocut-Mis and Sofia Pelczer, and directed by the latter. The analysis of these performances allows also to highlight the inherent theatrical dimension of Némirovsky’s work, both on a thematic and formal level. Helicobacter pylori is an organism widespread in humans and sometimes responsible for serious illnesses. It has been hypothesized the existence of animal reservoirs, and that the infection route by H. pylori involves multiple pathways including food-borne transmission as the microorganism has been detected from sheep, goat and cow milk. This work reports the preliminary results of a survey conducted in order to investigate the presence of H. pylori in gastric mucosa of sheep slaughtered in Apulia region (Italy) employing a Nested Polymerase Chain Reaction (Nested-PCR) assay for the detection of the phosphoglucosamine mutase gene (glmM), as screening method followed by conventional bacteriological isolation. Out of the 50 gastric mucosa samples examined, 3 (6%) resulted positive for the presence of glmMgene, but at this time no strains were isolated. The results deserve further investigations to asses the role of ruminants as possible reservoirs of H. pylori.

Toxoplasmosis, parasitic pathology supported by Toxoplasma gondii, is a typical example of multi-issue and inter-disciplinary on which, with equal intensity, converge the interests of various branches of human and veterinary medicine. The aim of research was the assessment of risk communication to pregnant women by doctors gynecologists involved in ASL’s territorial about toxoplasmosis, which can have serious effects on pregnancy and the unborn child. The results acquired during the investigation showed the need to develop and implement appropriate information campaigns and proper nutrition education.

The purpose of our research is studying the varations in milk with increased somatic cells in connection with casein index. We examined 710 patterns arrived to IZS of Puglia and Basilicata which were subdivided in two classes according to the season (spring and summer) and somatic cells number (300.000/ml). The obtained results allowed us to verify how the somatic cells increase leds to a decrease of casein index in both season terms. This alteration involves a reduction in dairy yield and then in curd quality.

L'acidosi tubulare tipo IV (RTA di tipo IV) è una forma di acidosi metabolica ipercloremica causata da un ipoaldosteronismo assoluto o funzionale, che determina un deficit dell'acidificazione distale attraverso un'inibizione dell'ammoniogenesi e dell'escrezione di H+ a livello del dotto collettore. L'eziologia è spesso multifattoriale e include disordini che determinano una riduzione dei livelli di aldosterone o della sensibilità del dotto collettore alle azioni dell'ormone. I farmaci che inibiscono il sistema renina-angiotensina (RAS) a qualunque livello aumentano il rischio di sviluppare una RTA di tipo IV, soprattutto quando sono impiegati in associazione in pazienti anziani affetti da diabete mellito, scompenso cardiaco e insufficienza renale cronica oppure portatori di trapianto renale. La diagnosi si basa sul riscontro di un'iperkaliemia sproporzionata alla funzione renale associata a un'acidosi metabolica con anion gap sierico normale e anion gap urinario positivo; il pH urinario può essere inferiore a 5.5. Vari elementi laboratoristici consentono la diagnosi differenziale con l'acidosi tubulare distale di tipo 1. L'impatto clinico della RTA di tipo IV sta diventando sempre più rilevante a causa della diffusione di farmaci bloccanti il RAS in pazienti anziani già affetti da condizioni a rischio per questa complicanza, contribuendo a una rivalutazione critica delle indicazioni ad alcune terapie di associazione. Lo sviluppo di iperkaliemia pone in questi contesti un dilemma terapeutico, in quanto proprio i pazienti a maggior rischio per RTA di tipo IV sono quelli che possono trarre il massimo vantaggio cardiovascolare dal blocco farmacologico del RAS. È, quindi, essenziale trovare un punto di equilibrio nel rapporto rischio/beneficio nel singolo paziente, prevenendo la RTA di tipo IV con opportune misure.

This paper analyses the roles which Belgium and Italy have played in the process of European monetary integration. It focusses on Belgian and Italian attitudes towards European integration and EMU, exchange rate policies, key concepts of the EMU strategies and concrete contributions. Overall, Belgium and Italy played an important and pace-setting role in the process of European monetary integration. The main difference is that Belgium has been a constant and consistent "pace-setter" in monetary matters, whereas Italy was mainly active in the 1980s. Furthermore, the paper shows how important it was for a country to achieve a sound economic performance, especially a stable exchange rate, in order to have influence on the European monetary scene. During the school year 2008/2009, the Provincial pedagogic Coordination of Bologna organized a vocational training for educators of educational services 0/6 years titled: “Families and Communication”. The specific themes discussed by different teachers were: foreign families: the identity of migration, the relationship between educators and families in care, conflicts management, communication that facilitates and / or removes the relationship.In this space we aim at collecting the reflections of some of the educators who attended the training. With this contribution the services, that occupy a privileged strategic position in our contemporary world, have taken the social responsibility of sharing their experiences, giving their extraordinary knowledge in education, in connection with the surrounding society. The contributions here collected reflect the great resources of the services network concerning the different aspects, cuts and shapes they have taken. The revision task has been suggested and encouraged by the provincial pedagogic coordinators.
