Abstract

We present an all-optical tuning at IR wavelength in a novel photonic crystal consisting of a polystyrene opal with gold nanoparticles. The band-gap can be finely tuned with permanent shifts as large as 30 nm irradiating the sample with ps pulses at a low rep-rate in the visible.

Abstract

Risk factors of spontaneous abortion were investigated in two matched case-control studies in 1987-88 and 1997-99. An history of previous abortions significantly increased the risk in both studies. Lifestyle (coffee) and occupational (exposure to organic solvents) factors were associated with a significantly increased risk in the first but not in the second calendar period, following a community intervention with advice given to workers, employers, and physicians; the latter also counseled a greater use of medicines against spontaneous abortion.

Abstract

In this article the authors show the correct method to gather together clinical data. First they explain how to compile clinical files (five cards) and how to maintain the centres and monitor them. The initial quality of the data is increased by the creating of a structure with "regional" and "central" monitors. Thirdly the authors explain data management: how to code and enter data, how to check its correctness and lastly data base authorization.
