In Italy, some silvicultural treatment as thinning could be carried out in an economic way adopting systems based on small-scale mechanization. This paper examines the productivity standards of wood biomass in coniferous plantation thinning in Southern Italy under the conditions of small-scale forestry. The objectives of the study were to evaluate the incidence of different silvicultural treatments on productivity and harvesting costs and create productivity models for typical harvesting system used for wood thinned from Calabrian pine. Three different sites were monitored on the Sila Massif forest, and the experimental plan included three area tests, subjected in the last thirty years to intermediate cuttings with different thinning grade: light thinning (A thesis), moderate thinning (B thesis), heavy thinning (C thesis). The authors developed a productivity model for motor-manual felling and skidding timber with wheeled farm tractors, equipped with winch using a time motion study. Whole tree extraction system in coniferous plantation applied with typical felling system traditional has guaranteed productivity standards at a reasonable cost reducing high operational cost per unit harvested. The results, therefore, underlined that it economic possible to wood biomass harvest relatively small-diameter from thinning stands favoring moderate and heavy thinning.

Este artigo discute a existência de uma dimensão utópica na poética da poeta portuguesa Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, e o modo como essa dimensão se constitui, a partir da análise de poemas selecionados de diferentes momentos de sua obra poética. Em nosso estudo do corpus poético, partimos da hipótese de que a poesia de Andresen procura restabelecer a ligação entre o mundo e a esfera do sagrado, com base na palavra poética. A partir desse gesto criador que se dá na esfera poética e, também, no mundo que o eu-lírico dos poemas contempla e que lhe serve de referente, ele buscaria o encontro com o divino e a redenção que dele adviria. Esse encontro se daria em um tempo que não tem princípio nem fim e, nesse contexto, a própria poesia seria uma tentativa de alcançar, ainda que momentaneamente e, às vezes apenas como um desejo, a plenitude da união com a divindade. Subsistiria, na poética de Andresen, uma espécie de princípio esperança, uma crença na realização de seu projeto utópico, que é simultaneamente ético e estético, na medida em que ganha forma com base no encontro entre a realidade sensível e a transcendência, através da elocução poética. A poesia readquiriria, assim, em Andresen, seu estatuto de lugar sagrado, ao mesmo tempo em que o poeta apareceria como a figura capaz de surpreender e revelar, no mundo, os instantes da presença de Deus.

Como se cria uma associação militante? Que elementos e/ou processos são necessários para que indivíduos ajam como um grupo para criar uma organização destinada a atuar no espaço político? Esta questão foi discutida numa pesquisa que focalizou um grupo de jovens rappers negros que fundou uma associação no final dos anos 1990 em Campinas, SP. Por meio de longas, repetidas entrevistas e observações de alguns dos seus encontros e práticas, mostramos que a associação foi o resultado de um processo de aprendizagem por que passaram os jovens, ao longo de um contato estreito com políticos profissionais mais velhos e mais experientes. Nesse processo eles aprenderam como um movimento de protesto deveria se articular para influenciar o governo. Aprenderam também certas técnicas de mobilização que lhes permitiram ser respeitados e construir apoios em outros segmentos de ativismo partidário e sindical. As ações da associação deram concretude e visibilidade à idéia de que havia um "movimento hip hop" na cidade. Em 2001, ao final de uma longa negociação, seus membros obtiveram o apoio da prefeitura municipal da cidade, assumida pelo PT, para a criação da Casa do Hip Hop de Campinas, onde eles foram empregados para desenvolver atividades artísticas e políticas.How are militant associations created? Which elements and/or processes allow individuals to act as a group and create an organization aimed at interfering in the political sphere? We look into this question by studying a group of young black rappers who created their association in the late 1990's in Campinas, SP. Through long, repeated interviews and the observation of some of their encounters and practices, we show that the association was made possible by a learning process experienced by the rappers through their contact with older and experienced politicians. In the process, they learned how to organize a political movement in order to influence government policies. They also learned a number of "activist techniques" that helped them to be respected and to find support in other segments of party and syndicate activism. Through the association, the rappers made the Campinas hip hop movement concrete and visible and, in 2001, they obtained support from the Partido dos Trabalhadores city administration, for the creation of a House of Hip Hop, a center where they were employed to develop artistic and political activities.

This paper analyses data obtained from an online survey related to animal welfare and religious slaughter topics. The questionnaire was conducted with the purpose of examining the purchase behaviour of a group of consumers (with different religious orientation) and their views on animal protection and ritual slaughter. The main results of the consultation were two. The first evidenced the respondents’ great interest about the question on animal welfare, which is in accordance with the growing interest of European citizens concerning this issue. The second was the demand for a more transparent labelling of animal products, which would also reflect animal welfare and the slaughter method used. These results are in contrast with marketing analysis, which finds that consumers want to only receive positive information. Paradoxically, the more information is transmitted to reassure consumers, the higher is the risk to alarm them.

O propósito deste estudo é apresentar algumas particularidades fonéticas do Português falado no Arquipélago dos Açores. Serão estas apenas observações da aparência vocálica nestas ilhas, mais especificamente na ilha de São Miguel, Grupo Oriental. Não se espere de nenhum modo uma visão ordenada e completa de uma temática tão complexa à qual ainda não se dedicou uma devida exposição metódica.

A metalinguagem natural é propriedade sui generis de qualquer língua e, tanto quanto a língua-objeto, é responsável por todo ato de linguagem. Partindo desse pressuposto, procuramos fundamentar a importância de sua descrição para a teoria da linguagem.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo demonstrar a importância da tradução intralingual para aprodução de microuniversos discursivos. Para tanto, parte-se do pressuposto de que o texto se constróicomo uma seqüência de paráfrases definicionais/denominativas.

The article presents an analysis of the letters written by citizens and immigrants to the mayor of the city of Sesto San Giovanni, in the northern Italy, begging for a place where they could live with their families. The author discusses the severe housing crisis that occurred as consequence of the demographic growth and how public administration tackled the issue.

The aim of the research is to study the influences of some variables (sex, age, educational level) on the subject's evaluation of three different crimes: « mafia » aggression, sexual offences and terrorist assault. For each crime, judgments were requested about seriousness, brutality and emotional reaction, then the subjects were asked to make inferences about the moral character of offenders, their cruelty, psychical disturbance and chances of rehabilitation; finally, severity and reasons for the punishment recommended for the offenders were taken into account. The sample was composed of 96 subjects. Results show that the attitude toward crimes and criminals is influenced -- in different ways according to the type of crime to be judged -- by the subjects' age and educational level, while sex seems to have less influence.
