During motor nerve regeneration a transitory polyinnervation of muscle cells occurs, which represents a phase of rearrangement of the recovered innervation. Bilobalide, a terpene extrated from Ginkgo biloba leaves, was proposed to affect some aspects of nervous system development and regeneration. In this work, influence of bilobalide on polyinnervation in reinnervated extensor digitorum longus muscle was studied, through electrophysiological and histological techniques. The muscle was denervated crushing the sciatic nerve and it was examined at 1 or 2 months after denervation. The polyinnervated muscle cells in controls reached 24% at 1 month and thus the percentage decreased. In muscles of bilobalide treated rats the number of polyinnervated cells was decreased at both times.

The acute oral administration of Ranitidine (200 mg.) does not determine significant variations in the plasma levels of PRL, LH, FSH, HGH, ACTH and Cortisol. This fact seems to exclude a vigorous action of the drug, in therapeutic doses, on the hypothalamo-pituitary axis. Furthermore, it cannot be excluded that the chronic administration of Ranitidine cam determine significant variations in the hormones themselves.

Some 1-(naphtho[2,1-b]furan-2-yl)-2-(t-butylamino)ethanols were synthesized for possible beta-adrenergic receptor blockade. The compounds may be considered to be derived from naphthyloxypropanolamines, the side chain of which is partially included in a furan ring. The pharmacological profile of 1-(naphtho[2,1-b]furan-2-yl)-2-(t-butylamine)ethanol (I b) is quite similar to that of propranolol without cardiac depressant properties.

We have compared the effects of intravenous administration of cimetidine and ranetidine on some cardiovascular parameters. Five healthy volunteers received both cimetidine (3, 5 mg/Kg) and ranetidine (1, 5 mg/Kg). Heart rate, blood pressure and PEP/LVET were recorded at baseline and 5, 10, 30, 45 minutes after administration of both drugs. Intravenous administration of cimetidine and ranetidine did not induce any significant alterations in cardiovascular variables.

Some 2-(methylamino)naphtho [2,1-b] furans hydrochlorides 1-substituted were synthetized and investigates for antiviral activity in vitro against Herpes simplex virus type I (VHS-I) and parainfluenza virus type 3 HA-I/CR-8 stock.

Seventeen derivatives of 2'-furyl-2-benzoxazole and three derivatives of 2'-thienyl-2-benzoxazole, having different substituents in the benzene moiety (position 5) and in the furanic or thiophenic ring (position 5'), are described, with the aim of studying antibacterial and antimycotic structure-activity relationships. None of the compounds show an important antibacterial and/or antimycotic activity, when tested against nine bacteria and Candida albicans cultures; in any case it was much lower than that previously reported for the corresponding benzimidazoles. It seems that the = NH group of the imidazole ring, which is absent in the benzoxazole derivatives, might be important for the biological activity of this class of compounds.

1-(Naphtho[1,2-b]furan-2-yl)-2-(isopropylamino)ethanol (II) and 1-(naphtho[2,3-b]furan-2-yl)-2-(isopropylamino)ethanol (III) show low beta-adrenergic blocking activity and unlike the naphtho [2,1-b]furan derivatives (1,2) do not appear to give rise to metabolites with high beta-adrenoceptor inhibitory properties. The inclusion of the --OCH2-- moiety in an aromatic nucleus larger than the benzofuran system (bufuralol, Ro 3-3528) caused loss of the biological activity.

In this paper we evaluated whether a block of cardiac H2 histamine receptors by ranetidine could modify some non-invasive indices of cardiac function: PEP/LVET, heart rate, blood pressure. Five healthy volunteers underwent studies in baseline conditions and 5, 10, 15, 30, 45 minutes following i.v. injections of 1, 5 m/g Kg of ranitidine. None of the studied parameters showed any significant variation at the various time intervals. Ranetidine does not appear to alter the cardiovascular function at the dose we used.
