With still no end in sight to the catastrophic conflict in Ukraine, its possible solution hinges on the creation of a new world order, hence pointing at the necessary improvement or, at least, at the development of different international relations: among the traditional East-West divide, as well as between the hyper-industrialised North and the global South. It may seem pretentious that a scholarly enterprise in the Digital and Public Humanities can act upon such superior forces, but in our understanding the contribution of academics working in this field is showing how open participation is a principle leading to a more stable and shared balance, in knowledge building as well as in democratic consent. When we set out to determine this year’s topic, we were indeed convinced that the concept of “Relations” constituted an intrinsic characteristic of Digital and Public Humanities that we should highlight and thematise in a global discourse. Our intention for the present issue was to draw particular attention to the public aspects of research endeavours in this field, given that successful projects hold firm to the principle of audience involvement from their very inception, rather than having public interaction just as a late side-effect of scholarly work. Hence, the present issue focuses on the concept of “Relations” and how they are implemented, operationalised, and analysed as interdependencies, links, and connections in the various practices of Digital and Public Humanities scholarship.

The present issue closes magazén’s third annual volume, which presented a total of twelve original papers from international scholars who devoted their attention to the schemes and models of research that are defining our scholarly domain and revolving around the practice of [re]construction

En este trabajo se recogen resultados de investigación de instancias internacionales cuyo eje central es el estudio y planteamiento de propuestas para la mejora de la calidad en la formación docente en el contexto latinoamericano y caribeño. El presente artículo aborda los componentes de investigación, metodología y resultados generados por la Organización del Convenio Andrés Bello, a partir del estudio Marcos comunes de criterios de calidad para su aplicación en políticas y prácticas curriculares, de recursos educativos y de formación docente en los países del CAB. En este sentido, el presente trabajo posee tres partes, en la primera se realiza una revisión documental de los aportes más destacados en el ámbito de la formación docente en los últimos años, desde instancias internacionales focalizados en la región latinoamericana y caribeña cuya temática gira en torno al establecimiento de criterios comunes para la mejora de la calidad de la formación docente. En este apartado se hace un breve análisis bajo los criterios: componentes de investigación, la metodología empleada, los actores involucrados, los principales resultados y propuestas. Un segundo apartado tiene que ver con el análisis de los estudios desarrollados por la Organización del Convenio Andrés Bello, con base en los mismos criterios mencionados. Finalmente se presenta el tercer apartado que aborda un breve balance conclusivo de los aportes en materia de la construcción de los marcos comunes de criterios de calidad de la formación docente y su rol en los procesos de integración educativa internacional.

The 2022 volume of magazén is devoted to practical aspects in the Digital and Public Humanities. The first issue is thus entitled [re]constructions, focusing on the wide array of practices that prospered in our wide field for [re]configuring lost realities, [re]creating long gone dimensions, [re]building likely scenarios, [re]considering exhibition settings, and [re]covering disappeared traces of historical and cultural value.

Although some popes already enjoyed saint-like veneration, papal sanctity significantly increased during the ecclesiastical reform in the eleventh century. After all, it was Pope Gregory VII (1073-1085) – one of the main protagonists of the reform – who stated in his Dictatus papae that «The Bishop of Rome, if he has been ordained according to canon law, is undoubtedly made a saint through the merits of blessed Peter […]». These ideas draw attention to general strategies of representation, especially regarding the cult of Early Christian popes (such as Clement I). The increasing worship they enjoyed can be noticed not least in contemporary pictorial programmes. The paper deals with the propagation of early popes as “new saints” and seeks to identify the driving forces behind their dissemination. Analysing monumental art such as the Enthronement scene in the Lower Church of San Clemente and the (lost) apse decoration of the Oratory of St Nicholas in Lateran Palace, it also reflects upon the intentions behind these specific commissions and the (re-)establishment of papal cults in Rome. Sebbene alcuni papi godessero già di una venerazione simile a quella di un santo, il riconoscimento della “santità papale” aumentò significativamente nel secolo XI, durante i tempi della riforma ecclesiastica. Papa Gregorio VII (1073-1085), protagonista principale della riforma, affermò infatti nel suo Dictatus papae che «Il vescovo di Roma, se è stato ordinato secondo la legge canonica, è senza dubbio di fatto un santo per i meriti del beato Pietro […]». Queste idee innescano strategie generali di rappresentazione, in particolare per quanto riguarda il culto dei papi paleocristiani (come Clemente I). La venerazione crescente di cui essi sono oggetto può essere notata anche nei programmi pittorici del tempo. L’articolo analizza la diffusione del culto dei papi come “nuovi santi”, cercando di identificare anche le forze motrici di questo fenomeno. Analizzando opere d’arte come l’Intronizzazione di Papa Clemente nella chiesa inferiore di San Clemente e la decorazione perduta dell’abside dell’oratorio di San Nicola nel Palazzo Laterano, l’autore si interroga anche sulle intenzioni che stanno alla base di queste specifiche commissioni e quindi sulla “ri-fondazione” dei culti papali a Roma.

This essay takes as a case study the present situation concerning music education in Italy and Alto Adige with particular attention to the Free University of Bolzano/Bozen in order to address the present and future challenges to offer a sustainable quality music education that can be both personalized and rigorous. To do so the essay focuses on a research project led by the University of Bolzano.

Nel secolo dei Lumi, le traduzioni giocano un ruolo fondamentale nella trasmissione delle conoscenze scientifiche: emerge un pubblico sempre più ampio che auspica una più larga diffusione delle opere scientifiche nelle lingue europee. Dalla metà del Settecento, la traduzione di testi scientifici francesi contribuisce in modo significativo all’emergere di una stampa periodica di carattere specialistico. Il presente contributo verte su fenomeni di esplicitazione e implicitazione strutturali nelle traduzioni scientifiche dal francese all’italiano su tre periodici pubblicati tra il 1750 e il 1790 nell’Italia settentrionale. Ci si concentrerà su aggiustamenti costruzionisti che i traduttori operano all’interno di proposizioni di valore relativo. L’analisi ha come obiettivo quello di indagare in quale misura il principio pragmatico-cognitivo di informatività determini la scelta dei traduttori tra la struttura canonica della frase relativa e le corrispondenti costruzioni alternative con valore di relativa implicita. A seconda del tipo di periodico, i dati fanno vedere una certa correlazione tra l’esplicitazione strutturale di costrutti a valore relativo e il grado di informatività dei contenuti proposizionali veicolati. Structural explicitness and degrees of informativeness: a pragmatic-cognitive investigation on the French-Italian translation of relative constructions in the eighteenth-century periodical press In the Age of Enlightenment, translations play a fundamental role in the transfer of scientific knowledge, since an ever-growing public asked for wider distribution of scientific works in different European languages. From the middle of the 18th century, the translation of French scientific texts significantly contributed to the emergence of a specialized periodical press in Italy. This paper deals with phenomena of structural explicitness and implicitness in scientific translations from French to Italian in three periodicals published between 1750 and 1790 in Northern Italy. The focus will be on construction shifts within relative clauses. The analysis aims to investigate to what extent the pragmatic-cognitive principle of informativeness determines the translators’ choice between the canonical structure of relative clauses and the corresponding alternative implicit relative constructions. Depending on the type of periodical, the data show a certain correlation between the structural explicitness of relative constructions and the degree of informativeness of the propositional contents conveyed.

Rugby hat in Deutschland und Frankreich einen ganz unterschiedlichen gesellschaftlichen Stellenwert. Während in Frankreich die Rugby-Sport-Arenen gut gefüllt sind und die höchste französische Spielklasse Top 14 international zu den Top-Ligen zählt, zieht der Rugby-Sport in Deutschland bis heute keine Massen an. Rugby ist dort eine Randsportart. Trotz der sehr unterschiedlichen Entwicklungen blicken beide Länder auf eine gemeinsame Rugby-Geschichte zurück: Zwischen 1927 und 1938 kam es zu einem intensiven Spielverkehr zwischen beiden Ländern. Darunter fallen auch 16 Länderspielvergleiche, die heute, aufgrund der geringen internationalen Bedeutung des deutschen Rugbysports, weitgehend in Vergessenheit geraten sind bzw. in der Forschung kaum Berücksichtigung finden. Diese deutsch-französischen Rugby-Beziehungen sind das Ergebnis einer besonderen sport-politischen Konstellation in der Zwischenkriegszeit. Gefördert durch den „Geist von Locarno“ wurde der Spielverkehr 1926 aufgenommen. Die jeweiligen Interessenlagen von Verbänden und Politik führten letztlich dazu, dass die Beziehungen in den 1930er Jahren weiter intensiviert wurden. Es entstand ein Zweckbündnis, aus dem 1934 der internationale Rugby-Verband FIRA hervorgehen sollte.

School social workers deal with a highly sociolinguistically diverse target group in a monolingually constructed school environment. On the basis of qualitative interviews analysed by means of content analysis, this article traces how school social workers perceive multilingualism in their field of work. Which communicative practices do they use to enable communication in this linguistically diverse environment? Where do they experience challenges? Multilingualism is understood in terms of the language repertoire and includes not only different languages but also different varieties within a language. The school social workers describe a variety of communicative practices ranging from a careful, empathetic linguistic recipient design to multimodal and multimedia practices. Language barriers due to the lack of a shared language, are perceived as the “greatest challenge” that can only be mitigated but not overcome by interpreting services.

The article is a critical reflection on the contents and relevance of Paul Hindemith’s 1946b handbook Elementary Training for Musicians, republished in German in 1975 under the title Übungsbuch für elementare Musiktheorie. The purpose of the article is to contribute to the debate, started many years ago, on the need for a solid music training addressed to all citizens.

Le rugby ne joue pas le même rôle dans les sociétés allemande et française. Alors qu’en France les stades sont très fréquentés et que le Top 14 fait parti des meilleurs championnats au monde, le rugby en Allemagne reste un sport marginal et ne suscite pas l’intérêt du grand public. Malgré une évolution tout à fait opposée, l’Allemagne et la France partagent une histoire commune en matière de rugby : entre 1927 et 1938, les relations rugbystiques étaient intenses. On compte durant cette période 16 matchs internationaux entre les deux sélections, des rencontres qui sont aujourd’hui très majoritairement tombées dans l’oubli en raison de l’importance, moindre, accordée au rugby allemand au niveau international. De même, ces échanges ont rencontré peu d’écho au sein de la recherche académique. Ils sont pourtant le résultat d’une configuration politique et sportive particulière de l’entre-deux-guerres. Encouragées par ‘l’esprit de Locarno’, les relations entre les deux fédérations reprirent en 1926. Les intérêts des fédérations respectives ainsi que les enjeux politiques conduisirent à une intensification de ces relations dans les années 1930. Il en résulta une alliance intéressée qui vit naître en 1934 la Fédération Internationale de Rugby Amateur (FIRA). La traduction de l'article original sera mise en ligne sous peu.

Die Konzernverantwortungsinitiative wie der Gegenentwurf bauen mit der Geschäftsherrenhaftung auf einer allgegenwärtigen und in ihrer schweizerischen Ausgestaltung im internationalen Vergleich zurückhaltenden Haftungsnorm auf. Die Übertragung dieser Haftung auf Konzernverhältnisse folgt sodann einem klaren in- wie ausländischen Trend. Beide Vorlagen erweitern hingegen den geltenden Haftungsrahmen auch im vorliegend menschenrechtlichen Zusammenhang nicht, sondern konkretisieren ihn lediglich. Die im Gegenentwurf verankerte Haftungsregelung fällt zudem auffallend einschränkend aus. Zu nennen ist neben dem Entscheid für den unternehmerischen Entlastungsbeweis auch jener für einen eingeschränkten Kontrollbegriff. Die Haftungsnorm steht somit im Einklang mit der schweizerischen Rechtstradition. Dabei wählt die Schweiz eine im internationalen Vergleich zurückhaltende Lösung.

The present study investigates hope in the context of a 4 year vocational training. The theoretical framework combines the theory of hope with core ideas of self-determination theory. The main hypothesis predict a positive relationship between general hope and the satisfaction of basic psychological needs in the learning environment at the workplace. The analysis of cross-sectional questionnaire data from 450 trainees and 58 trainers integrate the perspectives of the trainees at the individual and group levels, as well as their trainers using multilevel modeling. The results show that a substantial amount of variation in individual hope is associated with the learning environment, and provides empirical support for the hypothesized positive relationship between hope and the satisfaction of three basic psychological needs (relatedness, autonomy and competence) in the work environment. The paper concludes by recommending the creation of autonomy-supportive work environments to facilitate the satisfaction of basic psychological needs and nurture hope.

Im deutschsprachigen Teil des Kantons Freiburg/CH kommt ein multikriteriales Übertrittsverfahren beim Übergang von der Primarschule in die Sekundarstufe I zum Einsatz. Nebst Schulnoten, den Einschätzungen der kognitiven Fähigkeiten durch die Lehrpersonen sowie der Zuweisungsempfehlung der Lehrpersonen und der Eltern wird zusätzlich eine Vergleichsprüfung in Deutsch und Mathematik durchgeführt. In zwei Vollerhebungen wurden die Lernenden, deren Eltern sowie die Lehrpersonen der Übertrittsjahrgänge 2009 und 2010 ausführlich befragt. Die Daten erlaubten eine empirische Trennung der primären von sekundären Herkunftseffekten und charakterisieren somit den übertrittsrelevanten Einfluss sozialer Disparitäten. Auch unter Kontrolle der Leistung, der Noten und der Zuweisungsempfehlungen der Eltern und der Lehrpersonen blieben die Einflüsse der Herkunft bestehen. Die sekundären Herkunftseffekte spiegelten sich nicht in der Gerechtigkeitswahrnehmung der Eltern mit tieferem sozioökonomischem Hintergrund wider. Es handelte sich tendenziell um Eltern aus höheren Sozialschichten, die Ungerechtigkeiten beim Übergang wahrnahmen. Generell kann die von den Eltern wahrgenommene Gerechtigkeit des Deutschfreiburger Übertrittsverfahrens vor allem durch lehrpersonbezogene Variablen erklärt werden.

In der im Querschnitt angelegten Studie werden Referenzgruppeneffekte auf vier Facetten der Lernmotivation in den Fächern Mathematik und Biologie an Deutschschweizer Gymnasien mittels Mehrebenenanalysen untersucht (N = 2‘426). In Mathematik können für die intrinsische Motivation, das Interesse und die Leistungsmotivation Wirkungen auf Klassenebene nachgewiesen werden, in Biologie hingegen nur für letztere. Für die langfristig-instrumentelle Motivation kann kein solcher Fischteich-Effekt identifiziert werden. Weiterhin zeigt sich für das Fach Mathematik, dass die Effekte für die Facetten der Lernmotivation unterschiedlich stark ausfallen. Die Ergebnisse sprechen somit sowohl im Hinblick auf die Domäne als auch bezüglich der Facetten der Lernmotivation für eine differentielle Betrachtungsweise. Theoretische Implikationen werden diskutiert.

Transcurridos ya más de treinta años después del trabajo académico de Macario Santiago Kastner (1977), podemos retomar la discusión a propósito de la importancia de Cabezón dentro de la música instrumental europea. Leyendo los documentos históricos en su contexto original, se puede en muchos casos realizar una nueva evaluación de los mismos, en lo relacionado con la así llamada influencia de Cabezón sobre otros compositores europeos. Parece digno de mención, que la memoria de Cabezón permeneció viva también a lo largo del siglo XVII. Además, este ensayo presenta una fuente desconocida hasta ahora. Un informe impreso sobre los esponsales del monarca español Carlos II "el hechizado” y María Luisa de Orleans en 1679, da noticia de la música instrumental de Cabezón para una representación teatral. Aunque este informe se ha inventado libremente en gran parte, muestra la gran importancia de Cabezón más de cien años después de su muerte. [ge] Antonio de Cabezón in der europäischen Instrumentalmusik des 16. und 17. Jahrhunderts. Mehr als 30 Jahre nach den Forschungen von Macario Santiago Kastner (1977) bietet es sich an, die Frage nach der Bedeutung von Antonio de Cabezón in der europäischen Instrumentalmusik neu zu diskutieren. Mit einer Erörterung der Aussagen in den historischen Dokumenten im originalen Kontext ergeben sich mehrfach andere Bewertungen im Hinblick auf den so genannten Einfl uss Cabezóns auf andere Komponisten in Europa. Wichtig ist, dass die Erinnerung an Cabezón weit über das 17. Jahrhundert hinaus lebendig blieb. Den Quellen hinzugefügt werden kann ein gedruckter Bericht über die Hochzeit des spanischen Königs Carlos II. mit der französischen Prinzessin Maie-Louise d’Orleans im Jahr 1679, in dem Cabezón als Komponist von Instrumentalmusik für eine Theateraufführung genannt wird. Obwohl der Bericht weitgehend erfunden ist, zeigt er doch die herausragende Bedeutung, die man dem Musiker noch über hundert Jahre nach seinem Tod zuteil werden ließ.

A resurrected interest in agriculture has brought in its wake growing interest in smallholders in the global South by scholars, companies, governments and development agencies alike. While non-governmental organisations and development agencies see the potential to reduce poverty, companies look upon smallholder agriculture as a widely untapped resource for the sourcing of crops and as a sales market for agricultural inputs. While the important role of large corporate buyers of agricultural produce as lead firms in value chains is often discussed and emphasised, the power of providers of technology and agricultural inputs is being rather neglected. In this paper, we analyse two case studies of technology and input providers in agricultural value chains and their role in smallholder inclusion with the aim of finding out how such companies impact the governance of the value chains. To do so we combine insights from the value chain literature with the concept of framing/overflowing.
