Molecular techniques for studying soil microorganisms allow to quantify the presence of specific functional groups from the total soil DNA and thus to assess their dynamic in response to the land use. Using this approach, a study was carried out to assess the increase the soil organic carbon (C) of arable land in the central Po Valley with three woody species (white willow, black locust, hybrid poplar) in short rotation forestry. Being fungi the most involved microorganisms in the C-cycle and representing the larger part of microbial biomass in volume, total fungi e the two most widespread main fungal degraders in the upper soil layer (Ascomycetes and Basidiomycetes) were used as indicators of the effectiveness of land use in increasing soil organic C. An innovative molecular technique (SYBR® Green I dye on the QuantStudio™ 3D digital PCR system) which allows to overcome the critical issues associated with the relatively low concentration of fungal DNA compared to that of bacteria was used. Compared to the ploughed soil, total organic carbon (TOC), microbial biomass and enzyme activities increased significantly in the woody plantations. However, TOC increased to different degrees among the woody species. White willow and black locust showed a greater increase in soil TOC than arable (+30 and 20% respectively), followed by hybrid poplar with a smaller increase of +12%. The increases in soil TOC in the three plantations were not correlated with the total woody mass, assessed 15 years after abandonment. Total fungi and Ascomycetes were highly correlated with microbial biomass and TOC, while Basidiomycetes were not. Ascomycetes, which commonly prevail in agricultural soils, were still the most abundant even after a short rotation forest cycle of 15 years and can be taken as good indicator of C sequestration activities into the soil. Soil tillage strongly reduced the content of Basidiomycetes and short rotation forestry managed to increase it at least 4-5 times over a 15-year cycle of short rotation forestry, suggesting that it can act as a qualitative indicator of C sequestration. Since Basidiomycetes have different biological and morphological characteristics than Ascomycetes, combining them (i.e., as Ascomicetes:Basidiomycetes ratio) seems to be a good option for choosing the most suitable woody species for carbon accumulation in agricultural soils.

Whitin the aim to reduce the water demand by increasing water use efficiency and providing alternative water resources, and mainly to meet the demand of good quality irrigation water for agriculture, the Energy and Water Agency of Malta is planning to develop a Managed Aquifer Recharge pilot plant in Pwales Valley to improve the quantitative and qualitative status of the groundwater body. For this reason a detailed hydraulic characterization of the valley was carried out. Specifically, hydraulic properties of the rocks that constitute strata atop of the Pwales aquifer were determined by means of both laboratory measurements on samples and field test carried out in the studied area. The water retention and hydraulic conductivity functions, which relate the matric potential, ψ, and hydraulic conductivity, K, to the water content, θ, respectively, were measured using three experimental methods because each of them allows to obtain data points in a specific wet range. The water retention and hydraulic conductivity functions were measured on samples extracted from blocks of Upper Coralline Limestone formation, that hosts the aquifer, collected in three different quarries: Ghian Tuffieha, Mellieha and San Martin areas. The measured water retention and hydraulic conductivity data were fitted with LABROS SoilView Analysis software that allows to describe the functions and obtain the parameters which are crucial for modelling the water flow and transport processes in the critical zone. In addition, large ring infiltrometer test was carried out to determine the field saturated hydraulic conductivity, Kfs, and the average infiltration rate. Knowledge of the hydraulic characteristics of the Upper Coralline Limestone, completely missing in the scientific literature, allows developing a local groundwater-flow numerical model in order to better describe and understand how the water flows from the soil to the groundwater of the valley and visualize different environmental scenarios such as the potential effects of Managed Aquifer Recharge plant in the Pwales Coastal Groundwater Body.

In coastal areas, saltwater intrusion causes a depletion of the resource by reducing potable and irrigation freshwater supplies and causing severe deterioration of groundwater quality. This trend is observed in Pwales Valley, in the northern part of Malta, where the management of water resources plays a crucial role for the environmental sustainability of the area, given the importance of intensive agricultural activity along this valley. In order to tackle such a phenomenon, actions or adaptation measures against climate change are strongly required. For example, managed aquifer recharge (MAR) is an increasingly important water management strategy to maintain, enhance, and secure stressed groundwater systems and to protect and improve water quality. To accurately plan a MAR scheme, it is crucial to define a hydrogeological model of the studied area with the use of traditional hydrogeological measurements and innovative unconventional techniques. In recent years, electromagnetic induction measurements based on the induction of EM fields have been increasingly used for investigating saltwater intrusion dynamics due to their high sensitivity to salinity. In the study area of Pwales Valley, a managed aquifer recharge scheme is being planned, and, for this aim, a hydrogeological model has been developed through an electromagnetic induction survey. More than 20,000 apparent electrical conductivity (ECa) data points were collected to generate a quasi-3D high-resolution model of the electrical conductivity of the Pwales Valley. The results highlighted the spatial extension of the tongue-shape salt water intrusion from east to west along the valley, as well as some geological-hydrogeological peculiarities such as the thickness of the salt wedge and the irregular top surface of the bottom impermeable layer, otherwise undetectable with other direct techniques at the field scale resolution. The approach was confirmed to be a useful tool for effective hydrogeological characterization, essential for planning adaptation measures to a changing climate, such as the implementation of a managed aquifer recharge scheme.

A partir do diálogo com a literatura colonial portuguesa e com a literatura nacionalista angolana, este artigo analisa representações sobre a rainha Jinga em dois romances angolanos, A gloriosa família, de Pepetela (1997), e A rainha Ginga, de Agualusa (2015), com o objetivo de verificar as formas de retratar a identidade de gênero de Jinga, suas habilidades guerreiras e diplomáticas, sua maneira de governar e lidar com o tráfico de pessoas escravizadas. Como romances pós-coloniais, o corpus abarca a humaniza­ção da personagem histórica, dessacralizando-a e questionando a insíg­nia de bárbara.

L'articolo ripercorre la vicenda artistica di Roberto Crippa (Monza, 1921 – Bresso, 1972) a partire dal 1950, ovvero dalla data di adesione al gruppo degli Spazialisti, con il quale, quell'anno, sottoscrisse la Proposta di un regolamento. Movimento spaziale. Il tema prescelto da Crippa per dare graficamente forma alle concezioni teoriche Spazialiste fu la spirale, delineata sul supporto attraverso la stesura di linee nette e concise eseguite con ritmi gestuali impulsivi. Partendo da un'analisi delle opere eseguite tra il 1950 e il 1955 e dal reperimento di documenti d'archivio per massima parte inediti, il presente contributo rintraccia come snodi centrali della poetica di Crippa non solo la militanza nello Spazialismo e la conoscenza degli esiti elaborati dalle correnti informali coeve, ma ritrova nei contatti con i surrealisti, in particolare nel rapporto diretto con Roberto Matta ed Enrico Donati, uno snodo fondamentale per comprendere appieno le sperimentazioni linguistiche compiute dall'artista nella prima metà degli anni Cinquanta. The article investigates Roberto Crippa's (Monza, 1921 - Bresso, 1972) artistic career from 1950, when he joined the Spatialist group signing the manifesto Proposta di un regolamento. Movimento Spaziale. The theme chosen by Crippa to graphically shape the theoretical conceptions of the Spatialism was the spiral, outlined on the surface through a clear and concise line drew by impulsive gestural rhythms. By analysing unpublished archival documents as well as works of artworks realised by Crippa between 1950 and 1955, this study finds as a fundamental moment in Crippa's art, not only the Spatialists’ theories and the Art Informel, but also Crippa’s direct contact with Surrealist artists, in particular with Roberto Matta and Enrico Donati. These relationships were two fundamental chapters for fully understanding Crippa's œuvre of the first half of the fifties.

In Richard III, Act 3, young Prince Edward’s insistent questions about the origins of the Tower of London bring the issue of historical transmission to the foreground. Furthermore, the survival of truth across time is thematised throughout the first tetralogy. References to fame recur obsessively in the three parts of Henry VI, while in Richard III, Shakespeare subtly plays with a historical and historiographical tradition that is much indebted to memorial transmission. In this play, historical distortion is materialised in the deformed body of its protagonist, who becomes the emblem of a past reinterpreted and rewritten in the light of present interests. The article will show how, on the one hand, the dramatist goes beyond what already was a “vituperative history” and brings the so-called Tudor myth to its apex while, on the other hand, undermining this same myth.

Background: Prolactinoma, the most common pituitary adenoma, is usually treated with dopamine agonist (DA) therapy like cabergoline. Surgery is second-line therapy, and radiotherapy is used if surgical treatment fails or in relapsing macroprolactinoma. Objective: This study aimed to provide economic evidence for the management of prolactinoma in Italy, using a cost-of-illness and cost-utility analysis that considered various treatment options, including cabergoline, bromocriptine, temozolomide, radiation therapy, and surgical strategies. Methods: The researchers conducted a systematic literature review for each research question on scientific databases and surveyed a panel of experts for each therapeutic procedure’s specific drivers that contributed to its total cost. Results: The average cost of the first year of treatment was €2,558.91 and €3,287.40 for subjects with microprolactinoma and macroprolactinoma, respectively. Follow-up costs from the second to the fifth year after initial treatment were €798.13 and €1,084.59 per year in both groups. Cabergoline had an adequate cost-utility profile, with an incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) of €3,201.15 compared to bromocriptine, based on a willingness-to-pay of €40,000 per quality-adjusted life year (QALY) in the reference economy. Endoscopic surgery was more cost-effective than cabergoline, with an ICER of €44,846.64. Considering a willingness-to-pay of €40,000/QALY, the baseline findings show cabergoline to have high cost utility and endoscopic surgery just a tad above that. Conclusions: Due to the favorable cost-utility profile and safety of surgical treatment, pituitary surgery should be considered more frequently as the initial therapeutic approach. This management choice could lead to better outcomes and an appropriate allocation of healthcare resources.

In semiotica e in linguistica la necessità di un oggetto epistemologicamente definito e specifico rispetto al vasto campo dei vari fenomeni comunicativi, e di uno specifico meta-oggetto o metalinguaggio, si rafforza con l’approccio strutturale che porta con sé anche un mutamento dell’idea di scienza del linguaggio, porta a una scienza duale: “uno formato da due”. Si tratta di una scienza che non considera le sue categorie come autonome, ma le considera “per altro”, in relazione con altre categorie. Nella dualità la storicità si prospetta come compartecipazione di strati di tempi asimmetrici, come attualizzazione di potenzialità semantiche: l’oggetto teorico si palesa come un “cronotopo” per cui lo spazio della teoria s’intreccia col movimento del tempo. La lingua utilizza sempre la stessa materia antica per le sue innovazioni, è capace di parlare di se stessa, di essere oggetto e condizione del suo meta-oggetto; parla di se stessa producendo un metalinguaggio aperto, risultante da un processo di traduzione o di autotraduzione, di metariflessione. Il rapporto fra oggetto e meta oggetto è ambivalente ed è costitutivo della scienza del linguaggio: l’oggetto (il linguaggio) contiene la sua teoria, ragion per cui il loro è un “rapporto unico”.

The pre-pandemic period saw the emergence of a new Italian audiovisual phenomenon: an innovative cinema and new television series, aimed at a specific target audience - the teenagers belonging to Generation Z. Italian teen dramas have led to the advent of a star system full of young actors and actresses. Their young age has facilitated their landing on social platforms, particularly on Instagram, where, to varying degrees, they are active and enjoy a large number of followers, mainly teenagers and young adults. The advent of the pandemic has drastically impacted the professional and daily lives of both actors and their audience, making social platforms the main compensatory forms for the lost sociality - for teenagers and young adults - as well as an important alternative stage for young actors. In this context, the paper aims to investigate the forms of self-promotion of the actors and actresses of the Italian teen world. Specifically, the analysis is focused on Benedetta Porcaroli, Beatrice Bruschi, Ludovica Martino, Federico Cesari, Rocco Fasano and Lorenzo Zurzolo, since they are among the best-known teen celebrities with the most numerous following body on social media. The reference time range starts from the first wave of Covid-19 in Italy (March 2020 - June 2020) and goes until the end of the second wave (October 2020 - Janauary 2021) in order to identify and analyze any differences between the two pandemic moments, in terms of representation, social engagement and professional activities of the examined actors.

Mary Shelley and Felicia Hemans are two basically contemporary authors who differ in many respects. Despite their remarkable differences, their literary production shows interesting analogies that refer to unexpectedly similar ideological and political positions. Crucial, in this respect, is the intellectual and emotional involvement with the Italian cause highlighted by the three works that are the subject of this article: Shelley’s “A Tale of the Passions” and Hemans’s “The Death of Conradin” and The Vespers of Palermo. Besides sharing themes and sources, all these texts similarly oppose the male logic of conquering at all costs that has remained dominant throughout history.

Resumo A imagem corporal, para Cash e Smolak, refere-se ao constructo multidimensional da representação mental do corpo, permeada por comparações e internalizações. O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar possíveis influências dos fatores socioculturais: mídia, família e amigos, em relação à imagem corporal. Participaram dos grupos focais 32 meninas e 32 meninos, de 6 a 8 anos de idade, com média de 7,15 (DP= 0,64) anos, estudantes de escolas públicas da cidade de Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais. A análise de conteúdo dos dados confirmou o pressuposto de que os fatores socioculturais podem influenciar a percepção, os pensamentos, as crenças e as atitudes das crianças em relação ao próprio corpo. Ressalta-se a importância de programas preventivos voltados à imagem corporal positiva no processo educativo.

This essay aims to reflect upon the relationship between sociology and literature, focusing on the crucial issue—on which scholars have not yet reached agreement—of whether literary sources can be interpreted using a sociological approach. This will include examining literary representations of the world of work, looking more specifically at the case of Italy. Like other western countries—but perhaps to an even larger extent—Italy has recently seen significant transformations in the world of work (workplace flexibility, temporary employment, fragmentation of the labour force) and, over the past 20 years, has produced a large number of literary texts that depict these changes and attempt to interpret them.

After initially forging links with the Dada movement, from 1926 Edouard Léon Théodore Mesens (Brussels, 1903-1971) became an active member of Belgian Surrealism. He was one of the most polyhedral figures of Belgian cultural scene: during his long career he was an artist, collagist, musician, poet and writer, as well as gallery owner, collector and art dealer, constantly involved in the sales and purchases of modern art, in particular Dadaist and Surrealist artworks. Since the beginning, in the 1920s, he used the collage as a medium to subverted the visual representation and develop a new epistemological artistic object, undermining the canonical dialogue between text and image. This methodological approach remained the major trat of his post-war artworks as well, when after a period of inactivity, on the occasion of the 1954 Venice Biennale, he decided to create new collages, finding in Italy a fertile receptive context for his experimentations. Starting from the analysis of unpublished archival materials, as well as visual sources, the article aims to analyze Mesens’ artistic approach to collage and shed new light on his post-war production, characterized by new linguistic and semantic experimentations.

Il presente lavoro analizza lo sviluppo applicativo delle misure di prevenzione patrimoniali, sequestro e confisca di prevenzione, tipiche dell’ordinamento italiano, sottolineando i punti deboli e la natura preventiva di tali misure attraverso il ripercorrere i principali interventi normativi e le più importanti pronunce giurisprudenziali. Il punto centrale, la compatibilità con i principi fondamentali, siano essi costituzionali o sovranazionali, le rende oggetto di continuo dibattito e allo stesso tempo l’uso con un procedimento parzialmente garantito, ma più snello, le porta a essere un efficace strumento di prevenzione sempre più utilizzato. Questa breve analisi si propone di tratteggiare la natura preventiva della confisca di prevenzione, considerando però la sua capacità ablativa permanente con la conseguente perdita del legame, tipico, con la pericolosità sociale.

Studying old age is pertinent due to population aging and the resulting socioeconomic impacts;training of professionals working with the elderly; distance between accumulated knowledge and their practical application to old age; view of old age as intellectual, psychological, emotional and physical decay, without regard to the gains from experience and resilience. The objective is to reflect on the situation of the elderly, making a parallel between old age and Goffman’s propositions. It seeks to question the understanding that old age is bad because it brings losses, learning difficulties, physical and mental decline, the advent of diseases, restriction of socio-political participation and experience of pleasure. The creation and perpetuation of stigma occur in social relations, with the influence of historical-cultural components in this process, which allows for variability of perception, stigmatizing practices and dehumanization. Reflecting on the issue of the elderly is necessary to deconstruct prejudices, alter the pejorative and partial view that marginalizes them and favor their recognition as an individual capable of learning and socio-political participation.

Il presente lavoro analizza l'attuale tutela penale del patrimonio culturale nell'ordinamento italiano e il recente disegno di legge AC 4220, recante disposizioni in materia di reati contro il patrimonio culturale, proposto proprio al fine di rafforzarne la tutela. L'esteso patrimonio artistico, culturale ed archeologico del nostro Paese richiede, infatti, una tutela di tali beni, dal traffico illecito, dal depauperamento, dal danneggiamento e da altri reati collegati, sempre più effettiva ed efficace. Di fatto, si tratta di beni comuni, di interesse pubblico generale ed intergenerazionale che permettono all'autore/artista di trasmettere nel tempo il seme della sua creatività e di trasformarlo in una rosa, dalla bellezza variegata a seconda dello sguardo di chi la coglie, nella contemplazione da parte del pubblico.

Nella relazione medico-paziente, il consenso informato del malato ha assunto, negli ultimi anni, un ruolo così rilevante da stravolgere spesso il sistema di responsabilità penale del medico in caso di intervento senza consenso, anche in caso di esito fausto. Vi sono state anche proposte legislative sull'introduzione del reato di intervento medico arbitrario e la questione sembra, ancora, tutt'altro che chiusa. Così come, attualmente, è al vaglio del Parlamento una proposta legislativa sulle disposizioni anticipate di trattamento, tutta incentrata sul consenso del paziente, che può non essere prestato o se già dato revocato anche per trattamenti medici quali la nutrizione e l'idratazione artificiali, con relativa esenzione da ogni responsabilità civile e penale per il medico. E' evidente che una tale enfatizzazione del consenso informato, da evoluzione fortemente sentita per coinvolgere il paziente nella cura, sta imboccando una strada pericolosa che rischia di svuotare completamente l'alleanza terapeutica medico-paziente che si gioca, pur sempre, sul campo della cura e della vita.

The usefulness of providing career interventions in the transition from university to labour market is more and more advocated, in order to increase young people’s competencies about career management and entrepreneurial skills. The present paper aims at focusing on the effectiveness of career interventions for university or graduate students and on its relationship with some study design and intervention characteristics. A meta-analysis was conducted on studies published between 2000 and 2015 which complied with the following inclusion criteria: university or graduate students as target population, the evaluation of specific career-related interventions or programs, and an experimental or quasiexperimental design. The selection procedure resulted in 9 eligible studies – overall assessing 12 interventions – out of 823 examined articles. The results indicated, on average, a large effect (weighted ES = .80; 95% CI = .54, 1.06) better outcomes from socio-constructivist interventions compared to those based on social cognition theory and person-environment fit model, and higher impact on the reduction of career indecision than on the increase of decision-making self-efficacy. Some recommendations for researchers and policy makers are provided, as well as methodological issues and practical implications for career interventions are discussed.

This literature review aimed to verify the scientific production on “aging versus memory”, identifying and analyzing international and national studies. Method: A study carried out at the bases:PePSIC, SciELO, LILACS, PsycINFO, and PubMed, over a period of 10 years, being considered studies published between January 2007 and December 2016. Results: 330 studies were found, 33 of which were analyzed after applying the criteria of exclusion, highlighting the issues: beneficial effects of training; lack of maintenance of the positive effects of the training and positive influence of the training in the humor; decreased symptoms of depression and anxiety; association between memory complaints and cognitive deficit, symptoms of depression and anxiety, age, self-esteem, schooling, perception of stress and quality of life and psychological well-being, decline in cognitive function and risk of self-neglect; association between subjective perception of memory and better performance in working memory tasks and semantic memory. In the methodological aspects were emphasized: effects of the retest, use of the MMSE and influence of the environment on the performance of the test. Conclusion: The analysis revealed that there is a great deal of divergence in the results of the studies and a large majority both regarding the beneficial effects of cognitive training in the elderly, and the need to undertake studies in the area.

This paper aims at developing and validating a brief scale specifically assessing Attitude Toward Learning of Scientific Subjects (ATLoSS) and at testing its measurement invariance across genders. The scale was validated on a sample of 18,436 Italian students (51% males) attending middle schools at 7th grade by using both exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. The four item scale had good internal consistency with a Cronbach’s alpha of .864 and a one-factor solution characterized by measurement invariance across genders. Associations with other measures – in particular with math academic self-concept and interest/enjoyment in math – supported convergent and divergent validity of the scale; besides, good criterion validity based on student achievement and prospective choice of higher education was confirmed. The scale represents a brief and easy instrument which can be used in large scale student assessment and can provide teachers and educators with preliminary information on their students’ attitudes which are relevant for academic achievement.

L’iniziativa di questa giornata di studio e di confronto sulla pubblicazione dei “classici” del Novecento è occasione per l'autrice di tornare a ragionare di un autore che le è particolarmente caro, anche perché la ricerca sulla sua scrittura è stato il primo lavoro editoriale che ha svolto, su proposta e sotto l’egida della sua maestra Maria Corti, curatrice in primis del volume I delle Opere di Bufalino. The two times of Gesualdo Bufalino’s "Complete Works" The Complete Works of Gesualdo Bufalino were published in the collection «Classici Bompiani» by publisher Bompiani, in two volumes: the first one, published in 1997, edited by Maria Corti and with notes by Francesca Caputo, the second volume edited by Francesca Caputo. In this paper Caputo examines the three steps of this edition: the first is hidden writing, the second is public activity, and the third is the staging of the complete works edition.

In Gesualdo Bufalino’s work, quotation is considered a trait d’union, an assiduous and constant reference to a literary memory which is inescapable. Citing becomes part of the act of writing: it allows the author to create an intertextual dialogue with a tradition which is skillfully reconsidered in order to produce variations. Bufalino opens up an innovative narrative space, whose structure is based on re-use, allusion, remake, and parody.

The paper aims at identifying similarities and differences between two different ways of using the word “true”, on the one hand when it is used to refer to a specific characteristic of what we say or think about, here called “words’ truth”, on the other when it is used to refer to a characteristic of whatever (as when we say “he is a true friend”), here called “things’ truth”. The main thesis here defended is that such similarities and differences may be usefully described starting from the feature of truth called “transparency” which is often considered as exclusively pertaining to words’ truth.

Starting from the Préface written by Paul Ricoeur for the text L’amore difficile (Jervolino, 1995), this paper reconstructs the dialogue woven by the two thinkers on this issue, underlining the (methodological and hermeneutical) convergences, but also the inevitable divergences. A philosophical hermeneutics in which philosophy includes itself and its other (i. e. biblical thought): «this hermeneutics, in my opinion, remains to be thought» – Ricoeur notes. Can we maybe say that this hermeneutic of the ‘difficult love’ has been written by Domenico Jervolino, in a way that, after all, is – compared to his 'mentor' – the same one and an other one?

Il presente lavoro analizza la tutela penale del diritto alla privacy, partendo proprio dalle implicazioni terminologiche del neologismo privatezza e considerando anche la contemperazione con l’esigenza di socialità come espressione della personalità dell’uomo. In particolare, il lavoro mira a soffermarsi sulla tutela penale della privatezza anche nei nuovi luoghi dove si esplica oggi la socialità: internet e la rete, cercando di ricostruire la tutela che il legislatore negli ultimi anni ha apprestato con vari interventi legislativi, considerando i nodi più delicati dell’interpretazione e dell’applicazione della normativa in questione.
