This study explores the matrices of serial style present in Aaron Sorkin's dramaturgical writing for television serials. The focus is on the way in which teams of directors associated with Sorkin’s productions employ solutions for the staging of these works, thereby establishing their recognizable styles. The analysis values the heuristic uses of the concept of “style”, in disciplines of art history and literature studies, aiming to understand the dynamics under which television serials results from creative encounters between dramaturgy and mise-en-scène. As proving grounds of this examination, we analyse the works of two directors of Aaron Sorkin’s show, The West Wing, evaluating the diversified manners in which these two propose solutions for the staging of Sorkin’s writing.

Questo saggio propone una lettura del management dell'immaginario di Elvis Presley come momento anticipatore, nel pieno della società dei media di massa, di forme di transmedia storytelling teorizzate poi agli inizi degli anni Duemila (Jenkins 2007). Si identificano le strategie attuate dal Colonnello Tom Parker (Bertetti, Freeman e Scolari 2020) nell’elaborazione della narrazione non sempre armoniche con quelle (de Certeau 1980) di appropriazione tipiche del fandom (Dickerson 2022, Simpson 2020). Si analizza anche l’elaborazione delll’immaginario mediale postumo dei titolari del diritto d'autore: dall’aggiornamento delle vecchie strategie fino all’elaborazione di momenti di co-creazione con i nuovi pubblici anche on line. Spazi non esenti da derive comunicative proprie delle teorie del complotto (Monaci 2021), legate alla morte di Elvis, anch’esse parte integrante della rielaborazione grassroots presleyana.

W greckiej wersji Księgi Syracha dwukrotnie pojawia się termin "martyrion" (świadectwo). Oprócz Syr 36,14 pojawia się w Pochwale ojców w odniesieniu do osoby Aarona (Syr 45,17). Brat Mojżesza zostaje tam określony jako ten, który ma "nauczać Jakuba świadectw". Taka wypowiedź nie pojawia się w innych tekstach dotyczących Aarona w Biblii. Zostaje więc najpierw przeanalizowany kontekst tej wypowiedzi, a mianowicie pochwała Aarona obecna w Syr 45,6-22, a następnie porównane wersje tekstualne Syr 45,17. Zrozumienie znaczenia terminu świadectwo w tym kontekście, staje się możliwe dzięki analizie tego słowa innych kontekstach biblijnych związanych z historią Aarona i przymierza synajskiego, jak i niezależnymi od niej. W końcu wypowiedź dotycząca Aarona zostaje osadzona w czasach Syracha i tłumacza greckiej wersji księgi. Kluczowym dla zrozumienia Syr 45,17 staje się przedstawienie funkcji i znaczenia powygnaniowego arcykapłana. Jest on w rozumieniu Księgi Syracha jedynym pośrednikiem między Bogiem i ludem, znakiem przymierza, odpowiedzialnym za przekazywanie świadectw – Słowa Bożego, treści i wymagań wynikających z zawartego z Bogiem przymierza.

Sotto questo titolo è apparsa nell'autunno del 1999 un'antologia curata dai quattro editori,. contenente 29 brani ( ad opera dei curatori e altri collaboratori). Le linee direttrici sono esposte nella prefazione (Preface, 2 pagine introduttive fuori paginazione). La base è l'antologia Early Romance Texts: An Anthology (1980) di Rodney Sampson, definita invaluable, ma ormai di difficile accesso. Perciò, con la presente scelta di testi si cerca di ovviare a questa situazione. Ci sono però determinati limiti: infatti, sono stati tralasciati i testi più noti, canonici, già bene studiati, ma nel contempo si è desistito anche dall'includere soltanto testi finora non pubblicati. In tal modo si è scelta una via di mezzo, includendo i testi meno noti e meno discussi, tutti pubblicati, è vero, già prima ma in places now considered relatively obscure e parecchio tempo (perfino tutto un secolo) fa. La struttura di tutti i contributi è identica: ad una succinta introduzione (dati essenziali sul relativo testo) seguono il brano, i commenti, la bibliografia e la traduzione inglese. In tal modo l'antologia è coerente, di facile orientamento ed altrettanto facili confronti tra i singoli testi, il che è di notevole importanza scientifica e pedagogica. Infine, i curatori fanno risaltare il ruolo delle ricerche filologiche negli studi più propriamente linguistici.

Between around 1630 and 1640, the little-studied printmaker Michael Snijders engraved an idiosyncratic series likely consisting of at least twenty-two prints. Approximating the logics of both drawing manual and sketchbook, the series brings together head studies, limbs, flora, fauna, antique costume, and fantastical creatures. Almost every one of these myriad motifs is copied from another source and staged – over the course of multiple, radically altered states – to produce a delightful play on the entwined concepts of copy and copiousness for artists and increasingly attentive connoisseurs. As this essay argues, Snijders’s series thus amounts to an intensive commentary on the mechanisms of print as a medium and, through this, on the history of early modern art and the status of the “copy” within it.

In the standard reference works for Ethiopian and Eritrean studies, one finds a Homily on Holy Easter (CAe 1265) attributed to Gregory of Nazianzus and identified as one of his Orations (CPG 3010). Both the attribution and identification are, however, incorrect. Rather, this Homily on Holy Easter, which is actually attributed to an otherwise unknown John Theologos in the earliest recoverable layer of the Ethiopic tradition, is to be identified as an Ethiopic version of a homily, recorded as CPG 4163.2, attested in two Arabic manuscripts, one where it is attributed to Ephrem and the other where it is anonymous.

In the mid-1990s, urban sociologist Robert Gutman argued that the field of architecture was comprised of two discourses. In universities, one discourse centered on the history, theory, and culture of architecture, and at firms, another centered on pragmatic issues of construction and business. The strength of architecture as a field, he suggested, was predicated on bridges between the two. This article considers the rise of three different “university” initiatives within architecture firms that complicate Gutman’s observed divisions, including “Gensler University,” “Albert Kahn University,” and “SHoP U” at SHoP Architects. By considering the history and scope of these initiatives in tandem with changes to accreditation criteria of architecture schools in the United States, the article makes visible some of the misalignments between academia and practice, and it raises new questions about what it might take to educate architects who can transform a profession otherwise gripped by the hands of corporate capitalism.

La limitación del tratamiento de soporte vital es práctica frecuente en Unidades de Críticos. Se relaciona con la donación en asistolia controlada y supone un reto para profesionales enfermeros, que no están familiarizados con esta donación y están implicados en situaciones que suscitan debate bioético. Objetivo: Analizar conocimientos y actitudes bioéticas de Enfermería en la limitación del tratamiento de soporte vital y donación en asistolia controlada. Estudio descriptivo y transversal en UCI del hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca, datos a través de cuestionario durante el Estado de Alarma de Covid-19. Participaron 28 enfermeros. 75% está familiarizado con LTSV y considera la decisión de LTSV conjunta entre médicos y enfermeros, indican que en la práctica diaria no es así. 41,2% expresa tener conflictos éticos para retirar tratamiento de soporte vital. 89,3% está de acuerdo con la donación de órganos tras LTSV, sólo un 42,8% aplicaría medidas para la preservación de órganos previas al fallecimiento del paciente. Enfermería no participan en la toma de decisiones al final de la vida y expresan falta de información respecto a los cuidados orientados a donación de órganos. Poseen actitudes bioéticas orientadas al respeto de la autonomía y dignidad, aunque muestran conflictos morales con algunos procedimientos.

In contrast, it is proposed here that ʾbk wdm continues the previous list of deity names, as already suggested in 1976 by Roger Schneider. Key to this argument is the distribution of the concluding prepositional phrases bn kl mrʿm, ‘from everyone who is malicious’, and bn ʿtkm, ‘from an adversary’, which only occur in inscriptions that have b-s¹qt, ‘by the protection of’. Thus, the following formula is proposed: b-s¹qt DN(s) bn X, ‘by the protection of divine name(s) from X’.

Theological anthropology has tended to view human flourishing as consisting in the loving communion of our selves with God. Recently, Natalia Marandiuc has brought the tools of attachment theory to theological anthropology to argue that a self is not inherent to human persons but rather is co-created through our loving relationships with one another and with God. In this paper I argue for the introduction of narrative, particularly as understood through the work of Eleonore Stump, to Marandiuc’s account as a practical means by which healing love might be communicated, particularly through Scriptural narratives. In evidence of narrative’s usefulness, I offer a brief exegesis of the Gospel of John’s account of the Woman at the well. This synthesis fills a gap in our understanding of the self’s flourishing by not only adopting a model demonstrating its emergence but also by providing a method by which the model can be applied.

Tempranillo is the second most planted variety in Texas. However, over-cropping can be an issue. Crop load can be managed by pruning and mechanical fruit thinning. Mechanizing fruit thinning provides three benefits: yield reduction, berry thinning to decrease cluster compactness and reduce fungal disease and lower production costs than fruit thinning by hand (Tardaguila et al., 2008). In this study, crop load was manipulated by pruning and mechanical fruit thinning and its effect was determined on berry and wine quality.

My study rebuilds the basic cognitive principle to approach the true form of motion reality. Scientific study and development has always been led by facts but has never been able to reach the basic truth. This is related to our basic sensory and cognitive modes. Our cognition and practices have been developed based on functionally created facts which are at odds with the motion directed natural principle formed in reality. Our basic sensory form is integrated by interactive features formed based on interactions between our senses and environment. We do not sense the true motion features of reality. This cognitive mode successfully meets our survival needs of interacting with the environment. However, for the development of a sustainable civilization it’s necessary to break through the ultimate barrier between cognition and reality. We need to realize the functions and limitations of our cognitive mode and how that effects human social practice and development, and most importantly, the natural world. This is the way to fundamentally understand and solve the societal and environmental problems caused by human development.

In the forty years since “practice theory” emerged within cultural anthropology, views of architecture have expanded to include a wider entanglement of actors, materials, and societal forces, rather merely individual architects and their resulting buildings. However, recent investigations of architectural practice by both historians and anthropologists reveal an emerging schism in theories and methods of analysis – between historical studies of the past and ethnographic studies of the present. This article traces the formation of “practice theory” as it emerged within cultural anthropology as an explicit theory of history during the 1970s and 1980s, and it examines the ways in which history has since been embraced or resisted within studies of architecture practice, including those informed by science and technology studies, cultural anthropology, and architectural history. Sensitive to epistemological frictions and disciplinary allegiances, this article reveals methodological intersections between these approaches that may serve as a common discursive ground upon which to connect the past to the present, the archive to the office, or the discipline to the profession.

The Priestly Document (P) from the classic hypothesis of four documents is in fact the only one element of this hypothesis, which remained the current assumption in all modern hypotheses about the Pentateuch. The problem is that until now the researchers are unable to determine where this document in its original form (the so-called Grundschrift-P) was ending. In modern discussion, it is often limited to the Books of Genesis and Exodus. Nevertheless, the texts classified as P or post-P are also found in the Book of Leviticus and the Book of Numbers, and according to some even in the Book of Deuteronomy. The discussion of the critical-literary nature on the text in Numbers 20:1–13shows the complexity of the problem and is an example that unambiguous solutions in the source classification of a given text and explaining the process of its creation are not easy. In the latest analyses, the pericope is considered entirely as either the P or post-P text, but nevertheless more complex and multilayered models explaining the process of its formation are often proposed.

We analyzed the rhythmic, cyclical dorsal-ventral abdominal pumping movements of nymphal and adult Hierodula patellifera (Audinet- Serville 1839), and adult Stagmomantis carolina (Johansson 1763), Tenodera sinensis (de Saussure 1871), Miomantis paykullii (Stål 1871), and Sphodromantis lineola (Burmeister 1838) using a combination of customized video analysis software and frame-by-frame video analyses. Despite the phylogenetic and ecological diversity of these species, we found fundamental similarities in the overall, intermittent patterns of their abdominal pumping movements. In adults of all species, intermittent bouts of abdominal pumping had median durations of 64-89 sec, and were separated by intervals with median durations of 10-25 sec. Bouts began with rhythmic upward abdominal deflections of progressively increasing amplitude and frequency which were superimposed on an overall, progressive abdominal elevation. Bouts ended with 1-4 very high amplitude, low frequency upward deflections after which the abdomen returned to its horizontal (resting) position. In H. patellifera, the overall adult pattern emerged gradually during larval development. Given the diversity of the species tested, our data suggest that intermittent abdominal pumping (which has been associated with respiratory behavior in insects) may be independent of ecological niche or acute environmental stressors in mantises. Instead, our data support the hypothesis that these apparently respiratory related, intermittent abdominal pumping movements are an emergent property of the mantis central nervous system organization.
