Abstract
This paper deals with the sociolinguistic analysis of two Italian communities in England and with the role of English pragmatic markers (hereafter PMs) used by 58 first generation Italian migrants in several interviews in Italian. The migrants interviewed are resident in Cambridge and Bedford. In this paper, a qualitative and micro-socio-linguistic perspective was adopted. The use of well, you know and anyhow/anyway in the corpus gathered in the two English cities will be described. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
