A TV Dante – Cantos I-VIII (1989), the TV miniseries co-directed by Peter Greenaway and Tom Phillips, consists in a TV remediation of the first eight cantos from Dante’s Inferno. Taking inspiration from Phillips’ formerly work of Inferno’s illustration and translation (1983), Greenaway unfolds, through video, the metaliterature polysemy of the Italian poet. The essay reflects on Greenaway’s innovative pluricodical paraphrase of Dante’s hell. Within the television frame, thanks to Paintbox graphics, he reconstructs an hypertextual layout which reminds of renowned scholastic editions of the text, but also combine orality, written text, documentary images with original ones, soundtrack and pop-up boxes with extra-diegetic comments. Therefore, the essay analyses some of the series episodes in which different forms of experience merge together.

The migrant and refugee population present a high risk of developing mental disorders due to the difficulties associated with abandoning their own nation and culture and following often very dramatic migratory journeys. The experience of migration can be complex and stressful, linked to events before departure, during the journey and transit and after arrival. We present the case of the application of a cognitive behavioral approach to a young migrant from Cameroon, with strong symptoms of discomfort and serious difficulties in entering the Extraordinary Reception Center (CAS). The approach to the treatment involved the use of Protect, Beck Depression Inventory and List of Migration Experiences (LiMes). These tests are associated with clinical interviews where the presence of a post-traumatic stress disorder in comorbidity with a depressive syndrome emerged. The intervention was developed in different phases: psychoeducation, relaxation, cognitive restructuring, and narrative exposition technique. At the end of therapy, the interviews and the re-administered tests showed a clear general improvement in the migrant's state of health. In his novel Der fliegende Berg, Christoph Ransmayr plays with seemingly contradictory myths that surround the Himalayan mountain Phur-Ri, a mountain that is not marked on any maps and symbolizes a void, a figment of the imagination that serves as a foil for unfulfilled longings and desires. Using Roland Barthes and Mircea Eliade as its theoretical framework, this article analyzes the function of myths in Ransmayr’s novel and explores whether his use of myth can fill the void with meaning – or whether the void remains a vacuum that repells rather than allows for any form of signification.

The goal of the article is to show the reasons why, starting from the fifth-century BC, Athens decides to transform itself into a marine and imperialist power. It is this thalassocratic choice that, according to Thucydides, will lead to the outbreak of the Peloponnesian War, the subsequent civil wars and the rapid decline of the Athenian empire. The marine turning point of Athens is mainly due to a revolution in the mentality of the urban elites dedicated to trade and is the result of the diffusion and internalization of alphabetic writing which occurs precisely in the fifth century. The marine spatialization of Athenian politics, which has its origin in Themistocles and is consolidated with the long government of Pericles, is preceded by a spatialization of thought as an effect of writing. But, as clearly shown by Thucydides in his History of the Peloponnesian War, this mental and spatial revolution does not take place completely and it is precisely in this continuous and unresolved conflict between orality and writing, between vocation to the sea and attachment to the land, that the main reasons for the final defeat of Athens lie. How has scholarly understanding of Russian Revolution and of revolution in general changed over the last three decades? How the new source-material which became available since the fall of the Soviet Union has changed the basic interpretations of this event and its aftermaths? Has it affected some pivotal questions such as the possible alternatives existing to the the revolutionary outburst of 1917, the degree of violence and coercion inherent to the original spirit of Bolshevism, the continuity or discontinuity between Bolshevism and Stalinism? The cultural architectural heritage of a city is intimately linked to the local identity as well as to historical and artistical values. Its preservation must transcend generations. However, what is generally verified is the lack of records. This article aims to identify the architectural heritage of the city of Pinheiro Machado/RS. It started with an inventory made from simplified files, based on the ones used by IPHAN. The criteria adopted were: the relation with artistical or historical values; having any architectural or typological significance, value or quality; having any cultural, symbolical cultural, or historical value; and any constructive, technological or plastic value or quality. Twenty nine buildings located in the central area of the city were identified. They belong to several historical periods, from 19th and 20th centuries, and were classified according to their value.

The preparatory drafts for the first edition of L'ippopotamo (Einaudi 1989) are kept at the Centro Manoscritti of Pavia and record a crucial strategy within Luciano Erba's poetic system: the removal of toponyms and names. Vividly described objects, specific place names and family members are openly named in sketches and outlines, to be finally erased in the printed edition. Basically, L'ippopotamo aims at depersonalization in order to visualize as an onomastic blank the loss of solid and tangible objects, the unbridgeable distance from actual places met with in the past, and the absence of loved ones. After a philological screening of different case-studies, the paper focuses on the reason for such a process. Erba's strategy conveys in his verse the image of a weakened subjectivity, metaphorically placed on the defensive, in order to withstand the distress provoked by a certain sense of emptiness and fear of absence itself. Following different paths, Arsène Darmesteter and Michel Bréal formalize the notions of sémantique and polysémie. Bréal's Essai de sémantique (1897) - in which semantics is set up as an autonomous discipline, independent of etymology, lexicography and even rhetoric - can be seen as a systematization of the emancipation of polysemy as the autonomous science of the meanings of the words - a theory proposed by Darmesteter in La vie des mots (1887). Bréal and Darmesteter share the common point of view of anti-etymologist polysemic multiplication of the meanings of a word, while they disagree on the adoption of the speaker's point of view. Starting from the pre-existent connection in the two authors between polysemy and semantics, aimed at identifying the polysemic factor as a mediating factor in the relationship between etymological and synonymic instances, I intend to analyze the productivity of this connection in the semantic dynamics related to the transition from Latin to Romance languages. In particular, I focused my attention on the following different instances: the enrichment and loss of lexemes; the transfers, extensions or generalizations, reductions or specializations; the rework in the relationship between signifiers and meanings, both for similarity (metaphors) and contiguity (metonymies); shift due to taboo; the restructuring of the semantic fields, with particular attention to the semantic field of colors and of numbers; the resemanticization by re-motivation of meaning (folk etymology). The modification and recognition of 5‐methylcytosine (m5C) are involved in the initiation and progression of various tumor types. However, the precise role and potential mechanism of Y‐box‐binding protein 1 (YBX1) in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) remains unclear. Here, it is found that YBX1 is frequently upregulated in ESCC compared with matched nontumor tissues. Gain‐ and loss‐of‐function assays show that YBX1 promoted the proliferation and metastasis of ESCC cells both in vitro and in vivo. Functional studies revealed that NOP2/Sun RNA methyltransferase family member 2 (NSUN2) is a critical RNA methyltransferase that facilitates YBX1‐mediated ESCC progression. Mechanistically, integrated analysis based on RNA immunoprecipitation sequencing (RIP‐seq) and m5C methylated RNA immunoprecipitation and sequencing (MeRIP‐seq) assays identified spermine oxidase (SMOX) as a target gene containing an m5C site in its coding sequence (CDS) region, which coincided well with the binding site of YBX1. Overexpression of SMOX‐WT but not SMOX‐Mut partially restored the proliferation and invasion ability of ESCC cells curbed by YBX1 knockdown. Moreover, YBX1 activated the mTORC1 signaling pathway by stabilizing SMOX mRNA. The study reveals that YBX1 promotes ESCC development by stabilizing SMOX mRNA in an m5C‐dependent manner, thus providing a valuable therapeutic target for ESCC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Autoimmune uveitis (AU) is a kind of immune‐mediated disease resulting in irreversible ocular damage and even permanent vision loss. However, the precise mechanism underlying dynamic immune changes contributing to disease initiation and progression of AU remains unclear. Here, we induced an experimental AU (EAU) model with IRBP651‐670 and found that day[D]14 was the inflammatory summit with remarking clinical and histopathological manifestations and the activation of retinal microglia exhibited a time‐dependent pattern in the EAU course. We conducted single‐cell RNA sequencing of retinal immune cells in EAU mice at four time points and found microglia constituting the largest proportion, especially on D14. A novel inflammatory subtype (Cd74high Ccl5high) of retinal microglia was identified at the disease peak that was closely associated with modulating immune responses. In vitro experiments indicated that inflammatory stimuli induced proinflammatory microglia with the upregulation of CD74 and CCL5, and CD74 overexpression in microglia elicited their proinflammatory phenotype via nuclear factor‐kappa B signaling that could be attenuated by the treatment of neutralizing CCL5 antibody to a certain extent. In‐vivo blockade of Cd74 and Ccl5 effectively alleviated retinal microglial activation and disease phenotype of EAU. Amyloidosis reactive to chronic inflammation (AA amyloidosis) is a rare type of systemic amyloidosis, with prevalent renal involvement and a generally good overall survival (OS). However, progression to end-stage renal failure is frequent. Compared to other types of systemic amyloidosis, the role of prognostic biomarkers has been poorly explored in AA amyloidosis. Moreover, validated staging systems for the identification of patients with a more advanced disease are lacking. The acute phase reactant serum amyloid A (SAA) is the amyloid precursor protein and its concentration is associated with outcome. SAA concentration <10 mg/L after treatment translates in longer OS and lower incidence of end-stage renal failure. Boston researchers proposed a staging system for OS using estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR; cut-off, <35 mL/min/1.73 m2) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR; cut-off, >80 mm/h). Although it lacks validation, this staging system identified three groups with significant different OS. Pavia and Heidelberg researchers identified and validated a staging system for OS based on eGFR (cut-off, <45 mL/min/1.73 m2), serum albumin (cutoff, <30 g/L) and natriuretic peptides [type-B natriuretic peptide (BNP)] cut-off, >130 ng/L and/or N-terminal BNP (NT-proBNP) cut-off, >1000 ng/L). This staging system identified patients with low risk (5-year survival rate: 84%), intermediate risk (5-year survival rate: 55%) and high risk (5-year survival rate: 12%). Moreover, they proposed and validated a renal staging system using proteinuria (cut-off, >3 g/24h) and eGFR (cut-off, <35 mL/min/1.73m2). This article delves into Tommaso Landolfi's evolving translation strategies in regard to Russian poetry, with a particular focus on the influence exerted on him by two Italian slavists and translators, Renato Poggioli and Angelo Maria Ripellino. During the initial phase of Landolfi's activity, the profound influence of Renato Poggioli becomes evident. This is exemplified by Landolfi's translations from the 1930s and 1940s, as well as the rigid prescriptions expressed in his reviews of books translated by others. Subsequently, Landolfi undergoes a phase of re-evaluation, as evidenced by his review of Ripellino's 'literal' translations and, most notably, by his first volume of translations of Pushkin (Einaudi 1960). In this book, Landolfi explores a wide range of strategies, particularly regarding the metrical organisation of the texts, without adhering to one specific approach. Ultimately, in his last two books of translations, Landolfi successfully amalgamates the contrasting models of Poggioli and Ripellino, culminating in the development of his own distinctive strategy. The «Ecloga II. The silent life» is included in one of the most influential books of poetry of the late italian twentieth century, «IX Ecloghe»(1962) by Andrea Zanzotto (1921- 2011). This work is very important because it announces one of the masterpieces of contemporary Italian poetry, «La Beltà», published by Zanzotto in 1968, but also for the great artistic value of many poems that includes. The article analyzes in detail the text of «Ecloga II» and proposes an interpretation substantially different from those now prevalent. Close examination of the poem shows that the expression of the title ("silent life") has a meaning very articulate and ambivalent axiology. This interpretation considers the most reliable studies on Zanzotto and «IX Ecloghe» and emphasizes the importance (for the Venetian poet between the Fifties and Sixties) of phenomenological existentialist thought. In particular, it is assumed that the poet alludes to an idea of silence (and "silent life") that may be related to some theoretical clarifications of «Phenomenology of Perception» by Merleau-Ponty (but not only). This interpretation differs from the hermeneutics of silence generally offered by the most accredited critics of Zanzotto (from Agosti to Dal Bianco, until the recent book by Luigi Tassoni). Zanzotto believes the "silence" is not only a subjective and objective experience as opposed to the noise (verbal and non-verbal), but it is essentially an ontological dimension connected to give "mute" of Nature and Being ("Physics" and Ontology in the work of the author are closely linked). A dimension pre-linguistic but saturated of Sense, the expression of which is not attributable only to a particular rhetorical (reticence, blank, breaks, etc.) but involves the origin of the transaction poetic. The article also proposes some ideas for a possible re-consideration of the overall character of the different stages of production poetic of Zanzotto, from «Dietro il paesaggio» (1951) to «Conglomerati» (2009). From painting to newspapers, from literature to homiletics, Victorian culture stigmatised the figure of the ‘fallen woman’ as it was considered a dangerous menace for a respectable society. For this reason, especially in the working class context, the mothers of illegitimate children were often marginalised even within their family circles. The Foundling Hospital aimed to house their ‘blank children’, teach them to read and prepare them for manual work, on condition that the mothers severed every link with their sons and daughters. Starting from the definition of ‘agency’ given by Anthony Giddens, this paper aims to demonstrate how letter writing became a powerful instrument of agency for the mothers who had their children admitted at the Foundling Hospital in mid-XIX century London. Letters became for them a way to overcome the strict rules of the institution and reaffirm their individuality in a context that considered them passive subjects.

This article examines some missing parts concerning the Kasaba Plain and some road connections on Alacadağ, in respect to the Stadiasmus Patarensis (SP). The unknown destination of R 58 (from Myra) that is connected with the road network problems around Dereağzı, the absence of some important roads around Arneai and Dereağzı, and the blank section on top of Face C of the SP present some puzzling issues. One of two roads from Myra is Limyra (R 59), while the destination of other can unfortunately be restored insecurely due to erosion in the relevant part on the block. The pro­positions as to this destination are Dereağzı (Mastaura?) and Arneai. The author finds these propositions unlikely based upon the autonomy of the settlements and their geographical adaptability both in the field and on the SP, and proposes Trebendai, as an autonomous settlement near to Myra. Since the missing roads around the Kasaba Plain should fit in the blank section, the author discusses if the first road in the blank section could have been to Arneai (as was proposed by Şahin) or to Trebendai from Limyra, which is the last station in the road given from Arykanda (R 39) in the list on Face B that continues with the blank section on Face C. The author removes Dereağzı (Mastaura?) from the former propositions and establishes the roads in the blank section between Arneai, Myra, Limyra, Neisa, Kyaneai and Trebendai.
