Background:Diabetic ulcer is one of the chronic complications of diabetes mellitus. It often impactproblems inthe family duringthe treatment process.Familyplays a functional role in implementinghealthcare practicessuchasdelivering foot careon family memberswhosuffer fromdiabetes mellitus. Thismethod is apreventativemeasure to prevent theoccurrenceof diabetic wounds.Family'sability toprovidehealthcarecanaffect thehealthstatusof those familymembers.Familieswhocancarry out thetaskof healthmightresolvethehealth problems.Objective: To determine the family role in foot care to diabetic mellitus patients in PuskesmasKarangnongkoKlatenJawaTengah. Methods: This was a qualitative research used phenomenology, and employed in-depthinterviews.Participantswere obtained purposively,5 familieswere involved.Results:There were families whodo not understand their role in recognizing theproblem inpatientswithdiabetes mellitus. Families had lack understanding about their role in decision making regarding theimportance of foot careand its role in modifying theenvironment to ensure thehealthof thepatient.Familieshadunderstandingabout their role incaring for family memberswhosuffer from diabetesand itsrole intheuseof healthcarefacilitiesthatexistaroundtheirareas.Conclusions:The family role in foot caretodiabeticmellituspatients inPuskesmasKarangnongkoKlatenJawa Tengahneedstobe improved, because therearemany familieswhohave lackunderstanding onfoot care indiabetic patients.
