Plant response to the attack of herbivores is a usual phenomenon, but the number of extrafloral nectaries (EFNs) in response to herbivore attack is least studied and recorded. The current study was undertaken to document the response of cotton (Gossypium hirsu-tum Linnaeus) and castor (Ricinus communis Linnaeus) to herbivore and artificial induction. This field research was carried out experimentally on cotton and castor in two study models. The first study was the presence of ants on plants induced by herbivore (with herbivore, without herbivore) and the number of EFNs produced by each plant. The second study was the presence of ants on artificially induced plants (damaged leaves, undamaged leaves) and the number of EFNs produced by each plant. The results revealed that EFNs numbers in cotton and castor were increased by herbivore and artificial inductions, which also induced the number of ant recruitment events in cotton and castor. Artificial induction techniques can be utilized in pest management programs to attract and conserve plant guards, viz., biocontrol agents, including ants in the field. EFN is a cheap resource in quickly and effectively maintaining consistent population levels of biocontrol agents within the crops, even during pest-free times.

This study investigates the relationship between quality of work-life, perceived union effectiveness and job security with union commitment among bank employees in Malaysia. This study is motivated by the decline of union density worldwide in recent times. Indeed, the National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) has experienced a huge decline of membership, which may weaken and challenge the union to perform efficiently. Hence, this study examined the influence of quality of work-life, perceived union effectiveness and job security on union commitment. Survey questionnaires were distributed using simple random sampling to all five branches of the NUBE in Malaysia. The primary data were collected from 350 respondents and analyzed using correlation and multiple regression analysis. The findings of the study indicated that quality of work-life and perceived union effectiveness have positive and significant influences on union commitment. On the other hand, job security showed no significant influence on union commitment. Thus, representatives or the leaders in NUBE should focus more on the job insecurity of member in banking sector and should encourage the younger generation to participate in the union activities. Membership declining dilemma can be resolved by giving priorities to important issue such as job security among banking employees.

Background: Children with cancer require special interventions and palliative care to improve their quality of life. The epidemiology of pediatric cancer is needed as a basis for determining health policy. Purpose: This study describes pediatric cancer patients in the palliative outpatient clinic in Dr. Soetomo General Hospital, Surabaya. Methods: This study is an observational descriptive study that uses the medical records of pediatric patients with cancer at the palliative care unit in Dr. Soetomo General Hospital between June 2014 and July 2015. The data included the demographic characteristics of the pediatric cancer patients and was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: The number of children in the 1–5 years, 6–10 years, and 11–15 years age groups was similar, while noticeably fewer children fell into the 16–18 years group. The majority of children suffering from cancer were male (68,70%). The most common type of cancer in was blood cancer (leukemia) with a percentage of 51.91%, while the rarest types were retinoblastoma and lymph node cancer (malignant lymphoma) with percentage of 3.05%. Conclusion: The incidence of pediatric cancer patients in the palliative outpatient clinic was quite high. These patients tended to be male, aged 6–10 years, and suffered from leukemia.

Charolais mixed breed, also known as Lembu Sado locally, is a quite new cattle breed in Malaysia. Lembu Sado usually been raised in certain states in Malaysia such as Terengganu, Kelantan, Pahang, and Johor. Consumer perceptions on Lembu Sado meat for consumption are being measures since Lembu sado meat become relevant as one of meat beef. This study aims to identify the level of consumer perception on Lembu Sado meat consumption and to determine the significant factor of consumer perception that influence Lembu Sado meat consumption. A Google form survey was distributed to 50 respondents across Terengganu, to test the hypotheses whether the perception factors such as psychological, sensory, and marketing factors had influenced consumer consumption of Lembu Sado meat. Descriptive analysis and factor analysis were employed in this study. The results indicated that leanness of meat, health, ethnicity and advertisement are the main factors that influence the consumption of Lembu Sado meat. The findings may help consumer to decide which variables they should consider when purchasing Lembu Sado meat and also give them a clear view on what to expect when consuming Lembu Sado meat in the future.
