Commodities of palm oil play a strategic role in the Indonesia’s economy. In this study we concern on the competitiveness of Indonesia’s Crude Palm Oil (CPO) industry and effectiveness of the potential market for Indonesia’s CPO in Uni Europe (UE). The utilization of CPO as biofuels, encouraging an significant increased of demand for CPO in UE. This study is also addressed to determine the Indonesian CPO performance among other palm oil producer country. We used the revealed comparative advantage (RCA) and market share index (MSI) methods in analysing the competitiveness level. Our results showed, in 2014, export performance of Indonesia’s CPO increased. It was showed by the value of RCA1. Indonesia has competitiveness of CPO, because of the increased export volume of CPO and it’s derivates product to the major importer countries, such as UE. However, the average of RCA analysis in 2007-2014 indicate the lower performanceof Indonesia’s CPO exports compared to the other main CPO exporter, Malaysia. Thus, from the MSI analysis we found that Italy is a potential market for Indonesia’s palm oil exports, based on the fact that Indonesia’s CPO dominated the Italian market in the last seven years. The value of Indonesia’s market share was far above the competitor.

This study aims to identify and analyze the competitiveness of Indonesian products in the agricultural sector, especially rice, oil palm, vegetables, fruits and livestock products, also the relation between economic growth and some commonly used competitiveness indicators. The approach used is RCA (Revealed Comparative Advantage), RSCA (Revealed Symetrics Comparative Advantage), Self Sufficiency Ratio (SSR), Import Dependency Ratio (IDR). The results of the study are as follows: The export performance of Indonesian agricultural products in general relatively weak. Almost all agricultural commodities have low competitiveness, except for plantation sub-sector products, especially rubber and palm oil which have high competitiveness, the remaining products such as horticulture, food crops, livestock products, and competitiveness of horticulture relatively low in the international commodity market. In this study, also found in general, the relation between the rate of economic growth and some magnitudes of international trade performance does not show a significant relationship for food crops, horticulture, plantations, and livestock products. Indonesia is approaching the stage of self-sufficiency, especially for food crops, but for other agricultural sector commodities, it is still very dependent on imports to meet domestic consumption needs., Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan menganalisis daya saing produk di sektor pertanian Indonesia, terutama beras, minyak kelapa sawit, produk sayuran, buah-buahan dan produk ternak, serta mengetahui dan menganalisis hubungan antara pertumbuhan ekonomi dan beberapa indikator daya saing yang biasa digunakan. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah RCA (Revealed Comparative Advantage), RSCA (Revealed Symetrics Comparative Advantage), Self Sufficiency Ratio (SSR), Rasio Ketergantungan Impor (IDR). Hasil penelitian adalah sebagai berikut: Kinerja ekspor produk pertanian Indonesia secara umum relatif lemah. Hampir semua komoditas pertanian memiliki daya saing rendah, kecuali untuk produk sub-sektor perkebunan, terutama karet dan kelapa sawit yang memiliki daya saing tinggi, sisanya produk-produk seperti hortikultura, tanaman pangan, produk ternak, dan daya saing hortikultura yang relatif rendah di pasar komoditas internasional. Dalam penelitian ini juga diketahui, secara umum hubungan antara laju pertumbuhan ekonomi dengan beberapa besaran kinerja perdagangan internasional tidak menunjukkan hubungan yang signifikan baik untuk tanaman pangan, hortikultura, perkebunan, dan produk ternak. Indonesia semakin mendekati tahap swasembada, terutama untuk tanaman pangan, tetapi untuk komoditas sektor pertanian lainnya, masih sangat tergantung pada impor untuk memenuhi kebutuhan konsumsi domestik.

Globally, the economy continues to recover. The economic growth in AS increases supported by solid consumption and increase on non-residential investment, as well as the economy of Tiongkok, supported by private investment and better export performance. European economy also better off with stronger consumption and export, and the reduction of geopolitical risk post the presidential election in France. The economy in Japan also increases supported by stronger domestic and export demand. This global trend supports the growth in Indonesia that rises to the level of 5,01% (yoy), with the pillars of export performance, better global demand and commodity prices, as well as higher government expenditure – particularly on investment – and the household consumption. Spatially, the national growth was mainly from Java and Kalimantan due to their better export performance. Inflation increases slightly particularly related to price regulation implemented in early 2017. Spatially, inflation occurs in most area except Sumatera who recorded deflation. The balance of payment recorded a surplus arisen from financial and capital surplus of 7.9 milliard dolar AS. However, the current account recorded deficit due to the deficit of oil trade balance and primary income. The reserve increases to 121.8 miliar dolar AS, accompanied with stronger Rupiah with lower volatility relative to peer countries. Following the monetary ease on previous Quarter IV, 2016, the monetary transmission is better yet not optimal due to the prudent practice of the bank on allocating credit. The interest rate decreases reflected on daily PUAB O/N reduction by 7 point to 4.23%. The deposit rate also decreases as well as the lending rate with larger decrease. Looking forward, the growth in 2017 will be higher than 2016 on the range of 5.0 – 5.4%, while inflation will be around the target of 4 + 1%. We need to anticipate the impact of Fed Fund Rate increase, the lower of FED balance, and the trade and fiscal US policy, as well as the geopolitical dynamics across regions particularly in Korean Bay. Bank Indonesia will keep strengthening his policy mix and macroprudential, and his coordination with the government to ensure the inflation control, greater stimulus for growth, and the implementation of structural reform run on the right track, and hence preserve the sustainable economic development.

International trade theories are merely explaining several private business units. Therefore, the development of international trade theories has emerged. This concept developed by focusing on consumer, competitor, influence of exogenous market, and coordination mechanism. West Sumatra is a province that depends on primary export commodities. The West Sumatra export value tends to decreased year by year. This research conducted by using primary data which is collected from exporter in West Sumatra as source of data. The research use 16 variables which are represent consumer, competitor, influence of exogenous market, and coordination mechanism. The research shows that market orientation has significant influence to West Sumatra export performance.
