Indian Lakṣmī or Śrī Lakṣmī is the goddess of fortune, abundance and agricultural affluence. Lakṣmī is also the Universal Mother goddess as indicated by her designation Mā or Śrī-Mā. Later, she came to be considered by the Hindus as a consort of Viṣṇu and was inspired by the Ardhanārīśvara images. In the first place, Vedic literature testifies that Śrī or Lakṣmī was an abstract idea symbolizing beauty; but later on, we find her as a beautiful goddess absorbing in her personality some of the attributes of the mother goddess common to all ancient civilizations from the Mediterranean to the Indian Ocean. Śrī or Lakṣmī the Goddess of Fortune and abundance has been regarded as a popular divinity with the masses, who belonged to the Brāhmanical pantheon from the very ancient days and various Dhyānas and systems of worshipping her have gradually evolved from the late Vedic period onwards. As fortune and abundance of wealth were and still are closely associated with every man, the worshipping of this deity began to be widespread first amongst the Hindu community and even now she is worshipped in every house for the prosperity and welfare of the whole family.

प्रस्तुत अनुसंधान का उद्देश्य गंगा की महिमा के विषय में ज्ञान प्राप्त करने और उसकी ऐतिहासिक एवं सांस्कृतिक पृष्ठभूमि को समझने का प्रयास है। भारतीय जन मानस के लिए गंगा भारत की प्राचीन संस्कृति और सभ्यता की प्रतीक रही है। अपने स्वरूप व प्रवाह में निरंतर बदलाव लाने पर भी अपने मूल रुप में तो वही गंगा ने युगों-युगों तक एक समूची सभ्यता को न केवल सिंचित किया है बल्कि उसका भरण-पोषण भी किया है। गंगा षाष्वता का प्रतीक है तथा कला, पौराणिक कथाएँ एवं साहित्य सभी उसका गुणगान करते हैं। गंगा परंपरा, पुराण, कला, संस्कृति एवं इतिहास से जुड़ी हुई है। उसका उल्लेख हमें प्राचीन भारतीय वाड.मय में स्थान-स्थान पर मनन करने के लिए मिलता है। वैदिक काल से लेकर पूर्व मध्यकाल तक गंगा विभिन्न स्वरुपों में समाई हुई है। वैदिक काल में गंगा का धार्मिक व गंगा जल के रुप में चिकित्सा की दृष्टि से महत्त्व रहा है। इसके पश्चात महाभारत, रामायण काल में गंगा को मोक्ष प्रदात्री के रुप में मान्यता मिली। मौर्य काल में गंगा को व्यापारिक दृष्टि से महत्त्वपूर्ण समझा गया। इसके पश्चात पौराणिक काल के अन्र्तगत गंगा का दैवीय स्वरूप देखने को मिलता है। समय के साथ धीरे-धीरे सभ्यता एवं संस्कृति में बदलाव आता गया लेकिन गंगा जी की महिमा का गुणगान, यशोगान संपूर्ण संसार में वैदिक काल से ही चला आ रहा है। इसलिए गंगा जी का वैभव असीम है। The objective of the research presented is an attempt to acquire knowledge about the glory of Ganga and understand its historical and cultural background. For the Indian mass, the Ganges has been a symbol of India's ancient culture and civilization. The Ganga in its original form has not only irrigated an entire civilization for centuries but also fed and maintained it even after continuously changing its form and flow. Ganga is the symbol of eternity and all the arts, mythological stories and literature praise its existence. The Ganga is associated with Puranas, art, culture and history. It is mentioned at various places in ancient Indian Vangmey to contemplate. From the Vedic period to the pre-medieval period, the Ganges is weaved in various forms. During the Vedic period, Ganga has been worthy of religious significance and its water was notably used from the medical point of view. After this, in the Mahabharata, Ramayana period, Ganga was recognized as Moksha Pradatri. During the Mauryan period, Ganga was believed to be essential for commercial viewpoints. After this, the divine form of Ganga is seen under the mythological period. Gradually civilization and culture changed with the passage of time, but the glory and prestige of Ganga ji has been out spreaded across the entire world since Vedic period. Therefore, the splendor of Ganga ji is everlasting.
