Florida has many ecosystems that are thought of as especially important such as springs, coasts, dry prairies, and the Everglades. One of the ways importance is measured is through value. The term ecosystem services describes the benefits ecosystems and their components provide humans. This publication describes some of the ways to measure ecosystem services and explains how the different approaches to assess ecosystems might be selected, depending on what is most important to the user. This publication should help Extension and outreach agents, as well as agency personnel better understand ecosystem services values and explain them to the public. It should also help interested members of the public who wish to learn more about ecosystem services for themselves.

As the climate continues to change, coastal areas and the people that live there face increasing risks from erosion and wave damage. This is made worse by declines in natural oyster reefs, which would provide some natural protection. However, oysters can be restored for the specific purposes of protecting shorelines. The practicality and cost effectiveness of using oysters in this way is described in this publication, which is intended to be used by coastal property owners, as well as local governments that must make decisions about protecting shorelines in the face of a changing climate.

A culturally relevant resource list is a critical link in connecting Children, Youth and Families at Risk (CYFAR) Extension professionals and paraprofessionals (educators) with culturally relevant resources to educate diverse audiences in various subject areas. This is why CYFAR educators from across the nation requested such a list be developed when filling out the CYFERnet environmental scan and needs assessment surveys. The Diversity Project Team designed the following resource list in response to the needs expressed by CYFAR educators by searching extensively to identify some examples of culturally relevant resources that support and strengthen CYFAR programming. The resources were reviewed by team members, county faculty and/or state specialists. All resources came from credible sources in an attempt to further ensure the accuracy of subject content.
