Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer‘s disease are a major public health problem due to their high prevalence, especially in older people. Although a cure is not yet possible due to the usually late diagnosis, common dementia markers such as beta-amyloid 1-42, total tau and phospho-tau offer the option of immunochemical detection, even before the onset of clinical symptoms. Cerebrospinal fluid diagnostics as a result of a lumbar puncture is currently established as a routine procedure. More sensitive methods for determining such markers from the plasma of risk groups could open up new screening options and possibly enable better and earlier therapy procedures.
