Zur wirtschaftlichen Nutzung saurer Tagebaurestseen sind zur Erarbeitung von Sanierungskonzepten und zu deren Anwendung detaillierte Kenntnisse hinsichtlich Wasserkörper und Sediment notwendig. Die vorliegende Arbeit hat das Bindungsverhalten und die vertikale Verteilung von ausgewählten Elementen (Aluminium, Blei, Cobalt, Eisen, Kupfer, Mangan, Nickel, Zink) im Sediment des sauren Tagebaurestsees 111 (Niederlausitz) zum Gegenstand. Ziel der Untersuchungen war eine Schätzung des vom Sediment ausgehenden Gefährdungspotentials durch die ausgewählten Metalle. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article reports on a June 1957 Congress for Pathology, Therapy, and Assessment of Illnesses of the Repatriated held in Bad Homburg, Germany. The congress stressed the need to provide rehabilitation rather than pensions for repatriated persons and to provide medical, social, psychic, and economic means for the restoration of health and ability to work.

In the project "Resilient Children", a resilience promotion program for kindergartens and elementary schools was directly applied and evaluated during the COVID-19-crisis.The aim of the study was to strengthen the three sources of resilience according to Grotberg (1995) I HAVE, I AM and I CAN through targeted exercises and resilience-promoting communication (transfer to everyday life). Additionally, gender differences with regard to the effect of the programme were addressed. "Resilient Children" was evaluated at the impact level (pre-post design) and process level. Eight kindergartens and three elementary schools with 125 children participated. A total of 122 teachers and 70 parents provided information about the children. The results at the impact level showed that from the parent and teacher perspective, and from the self-perspective (children), the three sources of resilience were significantly strengthened. With regard to gender differences, the results from the perspective of teachers and parents showed that girls were characterised by greater changes than boys. Compared to the girls, the physical andmental well-being of the boys improved fromthe parents' point of view. The results of the process evaluation revealed a high level of motivation and enthusiasm for participation in the programme on the part of participating children and teachers. The success of "Resilient Children" depends on the identification of the teachers with the program.

Background: Gastric cancer with peritoneal metastases is associated with an extremely poor prognosis. Developed multimodal treatment concepts, which include a combination of perioperative systemic treatment and cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), show promising results with respect to improvement of the long-term survival., Methods: This article contains a review of the literature of published studies on the topic of gastric cancer and peritoneal metastasis., Results: The prognosis of patients with gastric cancer peritoneal carcinomatosis shows an extremely limited median survival of 7 months under palliative second-line systemic treatment. The median survival time increased to 12 months with cytoreductive surgery and in combination with HIPEC showed a positive effect on survival in individual studies., Expert Opinion: Treatment recommendations for patients with peritoneal metastases of gastric cancer should be carried out by experts in surgical reference centers.

Objective: Retrospective evaluation of the diagnostic value of bacterial culture of nasal mucosal swabs and histopathologic assessment of nasal mucosal biopsies in dogs with nasal discharge., Material and Methods: Medical records of dogs with the predominant clinical sign of nasal discharge that were referred to the ENT Unit of the Small Animal Department between January 2015 and December 2016 were reviewed., Results: Data of 85 dogs were evaluated. On the basis of the results of computed tomography (CT), rhinoscopy, bacterial culture of a nasal mucosal swab and histopathologic examination of nasal mucosal biopsies, dogs were assigned to one of six groups of primary nasal diseases: nasal neoplasia (24/85, 28 %), oronasal defect (22/85, 26 %), idiopathic chronic rhinitis (17/85, 20 %), foreign body (8/85, 10 %), sinonasal aspergillosis (7/85, 8 %) and diseases of the planum nasale (7/85, 8 %). In brachycephalic dogs (14/85, 17 %), oronasal defects (8/14, 57 %) were the most frequent cause of nasal discharge. No cases of a primary bacterial infection of the nasal cavity were observed and, therefore, antibiotic treatment had not been successful. Nevertheless, 72 % of the dogs in this study had received prior antibiotic treatment. Secondary bacterial infec tions diagnosed via nasal mucosal swabs were not diagnostic for the underlying primary nasal diseases. Targeted biopsies of tumors obtained under endoscopic visualization may lead to a definitive diagnosis, whereas biopsies of the nasal mucosa and the type of the inflammatory infiltrate were not diagnostic., Conclusions: Nasal discharge in dogs is frequently an indicator of an underlying severe primary nasal disease possibly leading to mortality of the affected dogs. Further diagnostics under anesthesia should be performed early in the diagnostic evaluation. Rhinoscopy as the central diagnostic is supported by CT and biopsy. Bacterial culture of the nasal discharge does not provide a diagnosis for the primary nasal disease process., Clinical Relevance: Without further diagnostics, antibiotic treatment of dogs presenting with nasal discharge is considered as not appropriate and can be harmful in dogs with nasal tumors or sinonasal aspergillosis. The objectives of this study were to analyse risk factors for the prevalence of abomasal displacement in German Holstein cows. In the period from 02/01/1999 to 01/31/2000 five veterinary surgeons in Northern Lower Saxony registered all cases of abomasal displacement in German Holstein cows being under the official milk recording scheme. In total, the investigation included 160 farms and 9315 cows. An abomasal displacement was registered in 151 German Holstein cows, corresponding to a frequency of 1.6%. More than 75% of the abomasal displacements appeared during the first 30 days after calving. The left abomasal displacement (74.8%) was recorded more often than the right abomasal displacement (25.2%). Milk recording and pedigree data were supplied by the VIT (Vereinigte Informationssystem Tierhaltung), Verden, and merged with the own recordings. The influences of the calving month, the lactation number, the age at calving, the inbreeding coefficient, calving performance, duration of pregnancy, breed of calf sire, calf sire and the breeding values for the milk performance did not explain a significant part of the variation of the frequency of the abomasal displacement. Significant effects of the sire, birth of twins or even more calves and the herd were obtained for the leftsided abomasal displacement. For the rightsided abomasal displacement and for all abomasal displacements the herd effect was not significant. Heritability estimates using bivariate linear REML models were h2 = 0.043 +/- 0.012 for the leftsided abomasal displacement, and h2 = 0.007 +/- 0.004 for the rightsided abomasal displacement, respectively. Using the threshold model the heritabilities yielded estimates of h2 = 0.51 for the left abomasal displacement, and for the right abomasal displacement of h2 = 0.19, respectively.

Fibrinogen can be precipitated from Heparin-plasma by Reptilase (Batroxobin). The electrophoretic pattern of the supernatant on cellulose acetate is nearly identical with that of the corresponding serum. This technique is also useful in differentiating a gradient of fibrinogen (caused by effects of anticoagulants) from a myeloma peak.

A reaction kinetic method is described for the determination of glucose in biological fluids. Glucose is oxidized to gluconic acid and NAD is reduced to NADH in the presence of glucose dehydrogenase. The rate of formation of NADH is followed in a LKB Reaction-Rate-Meter. Together with the analogue read-out, the rate of reaction is determined with a newly developed kinetic calculator. The specifications of the calculator are given. The new method has the advantage of a high rate of throughput and good reproducibility.
