PASTORAL care , *SOCIAL space , *COMMUNITY churches , *ORGANIZATIONAL change , *MATURATION (Psychology) , *SOCIAL change - Abstract
The article deals with the concept of social space orientation in pastoral care. More and more parishes and dioceses are referring to this concept, which focuses on the individual will of a person. It shows how this concept is implemented in practice and how it contributes to understanding people in their entire life contexts. The article describes two examples of social space-oriented pastoral care in the Catholic Church community in Cologne-Höhenberg and Vingst, as well as in the Diocese of Trier. In the church community in Cologne-Höhenberg and Vingst, the focus of pastoral care is on the situation of people in the neighborhood, especially those with limited financial resources. Diaconal services such as clothing and book distribution, bicycle repair, and food distribution are provided. In the Diocese of Trier, social space orientation has been established as the basis for all pastoral action and all church fields of action. A concept is being developed on how parishes, associations, and social-charitable institutions can jointly fulfill their tasks in the social spaces. The concept emphasizes the importance of social space orientation and describes three aspects of expansion: its application in various church fields of action, its connection with the Gospel, and its connection with supra-local and global contexts. To enable implementation, six criteria are mentioned, including its application in specific fields of action, personnel development, and organizational development. So far, social space orientation has only been implemented sporadically and project-based in the Diocese of Trier, but support formats are planned. The implementation of social space-oriented pastoral care has practical consequences, such as a change in pastoral practice and a broader orientation of the Church. The article deals with the concept of social space-oriented pastoral care in the Church. It emphasizes that this concept frees the Church from its self-interest and instead focuses on the individual will and goals of people. It is pointed out that social space-oriented pastoral care does not aim to promote the growth of the Church, but rather the personal growth of many people. Furthermore, it is emphasized that social space-oriented pastoral care does not make a distinction between church members and non-members and that diaconal action is strengthened in pastoral care. Finally, it is pointed out that a cultural change is necessary in the Church, which affects both pastoral attitudes and structural conditions. [Extracted from the article]

The Church of Youth eli.ja is an experimental community culture of dialogue between the church and the world. It is located in the former parish church St. Elisabeth in Saarbrücken and has been in operation since 2007. The church is an integral part of the Catholic church landscape in Saarbrücken and has its own organizational unit within the Youth Department of the Episcopal Vicariate of the Diocese of Trier. The Church of Youth promotes the participation of young people in community life and collaborates with various institutions and organizations. It is also an open place of identification for many people and implements projects in the areas of sustainability and social space. [Extracted from the article]

VIRTUAL communities , *COVID-19 pandemic , *SOCIAL interaction , *SOCIAL space - Abstract
The coronavirus pandemic has severely curtailed opportunities for social interaction for students. As a result, many students reported feeling lonely and disconnected. This prompted us to develop a university-wide tool to create more space for social interaction. To this end, we developed the online platform COMMUNITY, which students can use to network across study subjects and semesters in topic-specific forums. This article describes the development process of COMMUNITY and provides an overview of the concept and structure of the platform. We then describe our experiences of using the platform and reflect on possible limits to its use as well as visions for the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PILOT projects , *PARTICIPATION , *SOCIAL space , *AT-risk people , *NEGOTIATION , *LOGIC - Abstract
Introducing an inclusive pilot project as an example, this paper at hand discusses how establishing and implementing inclusive elements and practices in social spaces raises new issues about the importance of theoretical reflection. The pilot project »Kommune Inklusiv« aimed to open up opportunities for participation for people at risk of exclusion in five contrastive social spaces under a broad concept of inclusion. During the course of the project, scientific analyses showed that socio-theoretical perspectives on inclusion were neglected in favour of a process-optimising control logic performed in the project, which proved to have a tangible impact on the success of (sub-)projects. This article therefore advocates to strengthen socio-theoretical perspectives, which can be of critical importance in the successful implementation of inclusive practices and projects. In particular, theoretical aspect of crisis, which according to Oevermann is always inherent in pedagogical action, can contribute to understand inclusion as a (pedagogical) negotiation practice and manifest necessary reflective processes. DIRECT democracy ,BUSINESS enterprises ,SOCIAL space ,OPEN spaces ,SOCIAL movements ,ACTIVISTS - Abstract
Conviviality, as sketched by the „Convivialist manifestos", refers to ideas for a more sustainable way of co-existence both on macro- and meso-/microlevel. This article focusses on the latter. Judged by the convivialist principles, local living and acting together should preferably be organized horizontally (e.g., by the way of direct democracy). Still, such modes of collectivization are not self-explanatory. They have to be learnt and mastered. In other words, for convivialist collectivization to be performed adequately, suitable actors are necessary. Connecting practice and subjectivation theories, this article analyzes four studies on failure and success of employing horizontal organization in business companies and open spaces of social movement activist groups. And it shows how participating in collectivization practices can enable convivialist (re-)subjectivation -- learning by doing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LANGUAGE teachers , *SOCIAL space , *HUMAN territoriality , *LINGUISTIC analysis , *LEARNING , *LINGUISTICS , *LANGUAGE & languages , *SOCIAL interaction , *COMPETENCE & performance (Linguistics) , *TEACHER training , *LANGUAGE acquisition - Abstract
We engage in social interaction not only in everyday life, but also in social spaces in which language learning takes place, such as in second or foreign language classrooms. Applied linguistics is increasingly applying concepts and insights from research on social interaction to topics in language learning and language teaching under the umbrella term Interactional Competence (IC). This research focuses on context-sensitive interactional competencies and abilities that language learners encounter, develop, and diversify in the learning process both in and outside of language classrooms. Another prominent line of inquiry focuses on the analysis of classroom interaction in pursuit of understanding its infrastructure and improving teaching effectiveness in line with specific pedagogical goals, using methods of analysis in Interactional Linguistics and Conversation Analysis. Language teacher training is also increasingly seeking to make select research topics in social interaction accessible for current and future language teachers. This special issue on fostering interactional competence is embedded in this broad context: It seeks to outline the many ways in which social interaction is relevant for German as a foreign/second language (DaFZ), and to spotlight some of these topics through the individual empirical contributions in this special issue. Where will we live? Where will we be when we work or relax? Who or what will decide about this? What possibilities will urban agglomerations offer for everyday spatial practice? What significance will local differences hold? How will we distribute ourselves on a damaged planet, and where will what be available to whom? This anthology is an invitation to abandon familiar ways of looking at things and to take a new look at what a choice of location in the city of the future might look like. Different actors were invited to explore seven concepts of apparent consistency in essays, interviews or artistic contributions: Freedom, Fear, Chaos, Tolerance, Prestige, Permanence and Fake. The book does not provide a linear narrative but invites the reader to cross-read and reread.

The article describes the history of medical care to the population of Pskov province in the first half of the XIX century. The picture of medical care for residents of the Pskov province was restored thanks to the analysis of a wide range of documents deposited in the files of the funds of the State Archive of the Pskov Region and the Russian State Historical Archive. The relevance of this study lies in the fact that its topic is poorly developed not only at the regional, but also at the all-Russian level. The appeal to this problem made it possible to identify diseases that acquired the scope of epidemics within the Pskov province in the first half of the XIX century. Using individual examples, the author examined the policy of the central and provincial authorities to combat the cholera epidemic in the social space of the Pskov province. The paper also presents the facts of the spread of other diseases, for example, nettle fever and intestinal infection. The author formulated the key features of the healthcare system of the Pskov province in the first half of the XIX century, made conclusions about the low level of organization of medical care. This article will allow us to form an idea not only about the history of medical care of the population in the Russian province, but also about the history of everyday life of the people.

The volume is dedicated to the potential of creative expression offered by the engagement with urban architecture by means of contemporary (digital) technologies, and to the social context of neoliberal enrichment economics and urban politics that threatens to undermine this potential due to the commercialized presentation of architecture. In addition to scientific discussions, aesthetic interventions are carried out in the medium of photography, painting and music.

The article presents the history, geography and content of the rumors circulating among the inhabitants of the Pskov province in the first third of the XIX century. The historiography and source base on this problem are studied. The documents revealing the content of the rumors are concentrated in the files of the 20 Fund of the State Archive of the Pskov Region. Based on the analysis of these sources, a periodization of the rumor circulation was made. The main periods of spreading rumors in the Pskov province include July – August 1812, 1822–1826, 1826–1830, and the beginning of the 1830s. The author identifies the reasons that prompted the emergence of rumors among the residents of the Pskov Region. The reaction of the ordinary population of the province to the war rumors of 1812 is revealed on separate examples. Special attention is also paid to the reaction of the provincial authorities to the spread of false rumors in all periods of their circulation. The author draws conclusions about the high importance of rumors in the study of the history of the social space of the Pskov province in the first third of the XIX century. The work is relevant due to the fact that it is in recent decades that the attention of the historical community to the issues of social history has significantly increased. The uniqueness of this study lies in the fact that a number of historical sources are introduced into scientific circulation for the first time.

Summary: In this paper, Finnish tango dance tourism is analysed, taking into account the concept of embodied space (Low 2003) and Lefebvre's (1991) understanding of space on the multi-layered interconnected levels of body, culture and space. The Finnish „culture of silence" is considered in particular in this context. Methodologically, interviews with experts, participant observation and the evaluation of film material are used. As a result, a variety of interactions between body, culture and space emerge that reveal additional potential for Finnish tango dance tourism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

FUNCTION spaces , *SOCIAL space , *SOCIAL interaction , *CROWDSOURCING , *DIGITIZATION , *INSTITUTIONAL repositories - Abstract
In the wake of digitization, libraries are losing their primary function of being repositories for books. They are already developing more and more into social spaces in which human interaction takes the place of solitary reading. Digitization aims to strengthen interactivity in dealing with all artifacts, including books. It invites commentary, editing, and change. It is assumed here that in the future the library will increasingly function as a space in which these processes will take place. This leads to a radical new conception that is likely to affect all educational institutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper the author analyses the forms of space in Pierre Bourdieu's field theory, looking in particular at the way they relate to one another and at the spatial aspects of the literary field in his book The Rules of Art: Genesis and Structure of the Literary Field. The first of these forms is what Bourdieu calls the "social space" and "social field", each of these referring to a structure of positions that exists objectively yet does not exist (primarily) in physical space or real (physical) interactions between social agents. In order to make this structure intelligible, Bourdieu creates various spatial schemata that range from simple diagrams to sophisticated visualisations based on multiple correspondence analysis. The relationship between this structure and physical/geographical space is a complicated matter, since relations in the social space or social fields will not necessarily coincide with actual spatial distances or proximities. Nevertheless, Bourdieu demonstrates – especially in the last period of his career – that it is necessary to study the relations among agents and the objectified forms of capital as they play out within physical/geographical space. The last part of the paper deals with the complicated relations of the three spatial aspects of Bourdieu's field theory as they are applied to the literary field. In this respect, the most interesting part of The Rules of Art is the "Prologue". In the rest of the book, spaces that are characteristically physical, such as salons and cafés, give way to non-spatial aspects of the literary field, above all literary texts, which Bourdieu conceives of as a privileged form of "position-taking" on the part of social agents.

JEWISH communities , *SOCIAL space , *UMMAH (Islam) , *THEATER education , *EMPIRICAL research , *COOPERATION , *RELIGIOUS education - Abstract
The article examines a religion-related theatre-in-education-project that was carried out by the Osnabrück Theatre in loose cooperation with Christian, Islamic and Jewish communities. On the one hand, it examines the aims, and on the other hand the concrete pedagogical yield of the project. The research was done using various empirical methods. The evaluation is carried out from the point of view of religious competences as well as from the perspective of theological hermeneutics of culture. On the one hand, there is a great deal of agreement with the goals of Christian didactics of religion. On the other hand, however, there are also significant differences. Such projects could be part of a 'different' religious education that has hardly been taken into account so far, and which organises and articulates itself in the social space, independently from organized religion. This article discusses the function of breakout rooms in remote teaching during the 2020 pandemic. Based on survey and interview data from teachers and learners from 22 countries, our study explores perceived challenges and opportunities for virtual group work. Focusing on aspects of group management, communication, participation and group dynamics, we propose that breakout rooms can provide a valuable social space for isolated language learners and enhance collaborative language learning. A trend can be observed whereby violently racist attitudes are shared by both extreme right-wing and reactionary bourgeois milieus and are becoming normalized in public discourse. This situation reflects what sociological research has attested for years: Civil societies are not necessarily progressive, democratic, and public welfare oriented. They can be reactionary, anti-democratic, and aggressively self-interested. With a view to this ""dark side of civil society,"" the study examines projects of human rights-oriented community work (GWA) designed specifically for such problem constellations. The study examines the conditions for success of socio-spatial processes of change towards a more democratic everyday culture through GWA and develops proposals for their conceptual further development., Es lässt sich ein Trend verzeichnen, nachdem gewalttätig rassistische Haltungen sowohl von extrem rechten als auch reaktionär-bürgerlichen Milieus geteilt werden und sich im öffentlichen Diskurs normalisieren.

SCHOOL size , *TEACHING , *PRIMARY schools , *SOCIAL space , *LEARNING , *SOCIAL classes , *SOCIAL context , *STUDENTS - Abstract
The article "School and School Development at a Small School - Portrait of the Planeil Primary School" describes how teaching and learning are organized at a small school in South Tyrol with nine students. The Planeil Primary School serves as a social space for the children in the village. Classes take place from 8 am to 1 pm and are organized partly in a structured form and partly through work on work passes. The teachers value diverse learning methods and cooperative as well as individual learning. The school also maintains contacts with other schools and classes to expand the social environment of the children. The students have the opportunity to work on exercises at different workstations. The school organizes various festivals and celebrations throughout the year and opens up to the village to strengthen the school community. There is also a network of small schools in South Tyrol that allows for regular meetings and exchanges. [Extracted from the article]

Abstract So far, time and space have been addressed in separate discourses without considering the connections between the categories. An integrative perspective on the regulation of participation in further education promise social space perspective. Against the background of the demand for the interweaving of discourses of time and space, the paper deals with the question of which temporal relationships can be found in social space regulators of participation in further education. First of all, the categories of time and space are outlined, whereby their significance for research on participation in further education is primarily concerned. Following the presentation of the methodological background, the results of a time theory-oriented analysis are then presented in the context of a connection of time and space, in which empirical data of a study on social space regulators regarding participation of groups of less well-educated individuals were used.
