This article focuses on the political policies towards the minorities in Romania during the late 20th and early 21st century. Several topics are discussed, including how the minority policy changed after the Romanian Revolution (rebellion against the communist regime) in 1989, how since the foundation of the country during the late 1700s, Romania has become one of the most ethnically, religiously, and linguistically diverse countries in Europe, with large numbers of the population being Hungarians, Romanies (a nomadic people), and Germans living there, and how there were some ethic tensions and conflicts in Romania during the 1990s. Also mentioned is that criticism from other countries caused the Romanian government to revise their minority policy to conform to international standards.
