This paper addresses the archaeological literature on the subject of the chipped stone industry of the Chalcolithic communities that inhabited the east of nowadays Romania, namely Precucuteni and Cucuteni (5th and 4th millennium BC).1 The first part of the study focuses on how the Romanian archaeologists approached the first two stages of the chaîne opératoire: the raw material procurement and the technology of producing knapped stone tools (especially the elongated supports). These aspects were analysed through the literature published until now, regarding aspects as petrographic determination of raw materials, available information on the morphology of the cores and on blade attributes, on the reduction sequences and procedures. Although rewarding in what considers the raw materials supply, the information proves scarce in what concerns the organisation of technology. The causes of this unbalance are sought in the specificity of the development of the study of Prehistory in Romania. Consequently, perspectives for the further investigations and new directions of research are proposed. Das Bevölkerungswachstum und die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung von Schwellenländern sorgen für einen weltweiten Bauboom. Folglich herrscht Sandbedarf. Die ölreichen Anrainerstaaten des Persischen Golfes, die einen enormen Bauboom zu verzeichnen haben, können sich teure Sandimporte zur Lösung des Problems leisten, da Wüstensand nicht zur Betonherstellung geeignet ist. Die Bauwirtschaft bedient sich am Meeresboden - nicht nur eine ökologische Zeitbombe: In Staaten wie Indien spricht man bereits von einer "Sandmafia", die sich blutige Bandenkriege und Verteilungskämpfe mit hunderten Toten um die begehrte Ressource liefert. Verteilungskonflikte, aufgrund der räumlich unausgeglichenen Ausstattung mit der begehrten Ressource, sind bereits heute zu beobachten, und bieten Zündstoff v.a. für regionale sowie zwischenstaatliche Konflikte. Sowohl in ökologischer und wirtschaftlicher als auch insbesondere in politischer Hinsicht identifiziert die Geopolitische Information verschiedene Faktoren, die zu Interessenskonflikten oder Spannungen im Zuge der Nutzung von Sand führen könnten., The growing population and economic development of newly industrialized countries result in a worldwide construction boom, hence a demand for sand. The states bordering on the Persian Gulf that are rich in oil and experience an immense construction boom are able to afford expensive sand imports to solve their problem because desert sand is unsuitable for concrete production. The construction industry uses the sea floor which is more than just an ecological time bomb: states like India are already talking about a “sand Mafia” that engages in a bloody gang warfare and struggles for the coveted resource, leaving hundreds dead. Distribution conflicts due to the imbalanced spread of the resource in the area can already be observed and provide fuel for regional and intergovernmental conflicts in particular. Verpackungen aus Papier werden täglich von einer Vielzahl von Menschen verwendet ohne diesen wirklich Aufmerksamkeit zu schenken. Allerdings wird die Gesellschaft bei Themen wie Nachhaltigkeit, Umwelt- und Klimaschutz immer sensibler. Das Sammeln und Wiederverwerten von rezyklierbaren Verpackungen wird immer wichtiger und hängt direkt proportional mit dem Erfolg eines Rohstoffs zusammen. Papier als Erzeugnis aus Holzzellstoff weist generell hohe Recyclingquoten und eine sehr gute Wiederverwertbarkeit auf. Durch das Beimischen von Gras soll nun angeblich auch das Herstellen der Fasern energieeffizienter und umweltschonender werden. Der Einsatz von Gras bei der Herstellung von Verpackungspapieren wird seit längerer Zeit in der Industrie und den Medien diskutiert. Die Hersteller argumentieren mit immensen Energie- und Wassereinsparungen bei der Produktion und Aufbereitung der Grasfasern. Immer wieder ist der Begriff Graspapier in verschiedensten Medien zu lesen. (Pachniewski 2019) Diese Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit den Versprechen der herstellenden Industrie, dem tatsächlichem Produkt „Graspapier“, der verarbeitenden Industrie, die tagtäglich damit zu tun hat und den Marktchancen eines „neuartigen“ Rohstoffs. Es konnten Expertengespräche mit Vertretern der Firmen Rondo Ganahl, packit! und Thimm geführt werden. Diese Gespräche wurden ergänzt durch Branchenberichte, Untersuchungsberichte und Informationen der herstellenden Industrie. Außerdem waren Betriebsbesichtigungen bei der Papierfabrik Scheufelen und der Papierfabrik Meldorf geplant und zugesagt. Diese wurden allerdings aufgrund von Insolvenz (Scheufelen) und fehlender „Manpower“ (Meldorf) leider sehr kurzfristig abgesagt. Alle weiteren Versuche die Graspapier Hersteller zu besuchen verliefen aufgrund der Pandemie erfolglos. Auf Basis dieser Informationen wird „Graspapier“ hinsichtlich der Einsatzmöglichkeiten, der Marktsituation und der ökologischen Situation bewertet. Packaging made from paper is used daily by a multitude of people without being recognized. Admittedly the society gets more sensible regarding the topics sustainability, protection of the environment and climate change. Recyclable packaging, collecting and preparing is getting more important and has direct impact on the success of every common raw material. Paper, as a product of chemical wood pulp, has in general a high rate of recycling and is easy to reuse. Due to the merging of gras fibres the process of making paper is supposed to get more energy sufficient and more environmentally friendly. The use of gras fibres in the production of paper is discussed in the industry and media for some time. The manufacterers are bringing forward the arguments that, immense energy and water savings are linked with the production and processing of grass fibres. The term „grass paper“ is consitently seen in media. This assignment reports about the commitment of the producing industry, the actual product „grass paper“, the processing industrie, which should use these materials daily and the market opportunities auf a „new“ raw material. Therefore discussions with several experts of Rondo Ganahl, packit!, and Thimm have been carried out. These discussions are complemented with literature of the industrial sector and examination reports. Aside from that factory tours with the paper mills Scheufelen and Meldorf were arranged and accepted. Due to insolvency (Scheufelen) and a lack of „manpower“ (Meldorf) both tours have been canceled in a short term. Every following attempt to visit other paper mills got lost on account oft he pandemic. On behalf of these informations „grasspaper“ will be rated in terms of possible applications, market situation and ecological situation.

In der vorliegenden Arbeit wurde das Silexmaterial von 14 jungneolithischen Siedlungen nach technologischen und typologischen Gesichtspunkten untersucht. Ziel war, das Produktionssystem für die verschiedenen Silexinventare, die sich anhand der Keramik den entsprechenden jungneo¬lithischen Kulturgruppen zuordnen lassen, herauszuarbeiten, um so die Differenzen bzw. Über¬einstimmungen für die verschiedenen jungneolithischen Kulturgruppen in räumlicher und zeit¬licher Hinsicht zu erfassen. Die Silexartefakte wurden hierzu im Rahmen einer Merkmalanalyse untersucht. Die Rohmaterialanalyse ergab für die verschiedenen Siedlungen eine unterschiedliche Nutzung von lokalen, regionalen und überregionalen Lagerstätten, die vor allem von der geographischen Lage der Siedlungen zu den Romateriallagerstätten bestimmt war. Danach versorgten sich die Siedlungen, die in der Nähe von gut verfügbaren Lagerstätten lokalisiert waren, vorwiegend mit lokalem Rohmaterial. Siedlungen mit weniger guten lokalen Rohmaterialquellen verwendeten hingegen verstärkt regionale und überregionale Rohmaterialien. In fast allen Silexinventaren bildete der von der Schwäbischen Alb stammende Jurahornstein das am häufigsten verwendete Rohmaterial. Eine Ausnahme stellen die Silexinventare der Michelsberger Kultur dar, die einen hohen Anteil an bayrischen Plattenhornsteinen aufweisen. Insgesamt lassen die Kulturgruppen ein weitgehend opportunistisches Verhalten bei der Roh¬stoffversorgung erkennen, das weitgehend an die natürlichen Gegebenheiten der Umwelt anpasst war. Ferner deuten die verwendeten Rohmaterialien darauf hin, dass das Versorgungsdenken der jungneolithischen Bevölkerung großräumig war und es offenbar keine ausgedehnten Zugangsre¬striktionen gab. Die Analyse der Umformungsprozesse des Produktionssystems zeigte, dass die Beschaffung der Rohmaterialien in Abhängigkeit von der Rohmaterialverfügbarkeit stand. Danach importierten die Siedlungen ihr Rohmaterial je nach Distanz zu den Rohmateriallagerstätten entweder als ganze Rohknollen oder als Halbfabrikate bzw. fertige Werkzeuge. Die differierenden Grund¬formanteile sowie die unterschiedliche Kortexbedeckung der Silexartefakte belegen, dass eine örtliche Produktion in unterschiedlich hohem Umfang in den Siedlungen stattfand. Hierbei spielten ebenfalls weniger kulturgruppenspezifische Merkmale eine Rolle als vielmehr die Ver¬fügbarkeit der Rohmaterialien. Die schlagtechnischen Untersuchungen ergaben eine weitgehende Übereinstimmung bei der Herstellung der Silexartefakte im Jungneolithikum. Die knollen¬förmigen Rohmaterialien wurden vorwiegend in Abschlag- bzw. Klingentechnik abgebaut. Die Bearbeitung der Plattenhornsteine fand hingegen primär nach dem formgebenden Umformungs¬prozess statt. Der Kernabbau erfolgte stets von gut präparierten Kernen mit vorwiegend gleich ¬bleibender Abbaurichtung. Bei der Herstellung der Werkzeuge ist eine Größenauswahl festzustellen. Das Werkzeugspektrum ist bei allen Inventaren sehr einheitlich und weist nur wenige kulturgruppenspezifische Werk¬zeugformen auf. Bei allen Silexinventaren lässt sich ferner eine Instandsetzung der Silexinventare nachweisen. Aus den Ergebnissen der Rohmaterialanalyse und des Produktionssystems ergeben sich Hinweise zur Silexversorgung. Danach existierte während des Jungneolithikums kein festgelegtes kultur¬gruppenspezifisches Versorgungssystem. Vielmehr handelte es sich um ein alle Kulturgruppen in gleicher Weise umspannendes und miteinander verknüpftes Versorgungsnetz. Welches Ausmaß das Versorgungsnetz für die einzelnen Siedlungen hatte und in welcher Form es unabhängig oder abhängig von benachbarten Siedlungen organisiert war, wurde primär von der lokalen Ressour¬censituation bestimmt. Die in den Siedlungen vorhandenen Fernimporte sind unabhängig von diesem ‘normalen’ Distributionsnetz zu betrachten und in erster Linie auf soziale Kontakte zurückzuführen. Darüber hinaus lässt die Michelsberger Kultur ein etwas anderes Verhalten bei der Silexversorgung erkennen, das weniger von der lokalen Ressourcensituation bestimmt wurde, sondern vorwiegend überregionale Rohmaterialien aus bayrischen Lagerstätten nutzte. Ein spezielles Austauschsystem lässt sich demnach vermuten. Zudem existierte bei dieser Kultur¬gruppe vermutlich ein spezieller Austausch von Klingen bzw. Klingengeräten aus Kreidefeuer¬stein. Im Vergleich zu den anderen jungneolithischen Kulturgruppen zeichnet sich die Michels¬berger Kultur folglich durch eine höhere Mobilität und regeren überregionalen Güteraustausch aus. In the present work the flint material of 14 late Neolithic settlements was examined according to technological and typological criteria. The goal of this work was to uncover the production system of the different flint artifacts, which can be assigned to different late Neolithic culture groups on the basis of ceramics, in order to understand the differences and similarities between these late Neolithic culture groups in time and location. The flint inventory was examined within the context of a feature analysis. The raw material analysis revealed different uses for local, regional and supraregional sources, determined principally by the geographical location of the settlements relative to the raw material sources. Accordingly, the settlements that were near good raw material sources predominantly supplied themselves with local raw material. Settlements with less adequate local raw material sources used mainly regional and supraregional raw materials. In almost all flint inventories the raw material most frequently used was the Jurassic chert of the Swabian Alb. The flint inventory of the Michelsberger culture represents an exception, which shows a high proportion of Bavarian tabular flint. Altogether the groups of cultures show to a large extent an opportunistic behavior with regards to the supply of raw materials that was adapted to a large extent to the natural conditions of the environment. Furthermore, the raw materials used illustrate that the supply thinking of the late Neolithic population was open and that there was no obvious restriction of access. The analysis of the shaping processes of the production system revealed that the procurement of the raw materials was a function of the raw material availability. Accordingly the settlements imported their raw material, depending upon the distance from the sources, either as whole raw tubers or as semi-manufactured or finished tools. The differing basic form proportions as well as the varying coverage with cortex of the flint artifacts show that a local production in the settle¬ments with different extent took place. Here likewise culture-group-specific features play a smaller role than does the availability of the raw materials. The analysis of percussion technique revealed a large agreement of the production of the flint artifacts in the late Neolithic. The nodular shaped raw materials have been worked in flaking technique. However, the treatment of tabular flint took place primarily after a form-giving shaping process. The core reduction was done always from well prepared cores with predomi¬nantly continuous reduction direction. A size selection of the tools during the production is identifiable. The tool spectrum is very uni¬form within all inventories and indicates only few culture-group-specific tools. Within all flint inventories furthermore curation of the artifacts can be determined. The results of the analysis of raw material and the production system provide clues to the flint supply. No determined culture-group-specific utility system existed during the late Neolithic. Rather, a supply network linked all culture groups together in the same way. The extent of the supply network for the individual settlements and the form independent or dependent on neighboring settlements was organized were primarily determined by the local resources situation. The remote imported goods available in the settlements were independently of this 'normal' distribution network and can be attributed primarily to social contacts. The Michels¬berger culture, however, shows some differences with respect to the flint supply. The supply was determined less by local resources, but supraregional raw materials from Bavarian quarry sites have been used. Therefore, a special exchange system can be assumed. Furthermore, a special exchange of blades or blade devices from chalk flint probably existed at this culture group. Compared with the other late Neolithic culture groups the Michelsberger culture distinguishes itself by a higher mobility and a developed exchange of goods.

In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden Wege zur Gewinnung verschiedener phenolischer Substanzen wie Lignin, Diarylheptanoide und 4-(3-Oxobutyl)phenol (Himbeerketon) aus dem Stamm der Hängebirke (Betula pendula) aufgezeigt. Durch Methacrylierung des 4-(3-Oxobutyl)phenols wurde ein Monomer erzeugt, welches mittels freier radikalischer Masse- und Lösungspolymerisation, sowie enzymatischer Polymerisation polymerisiert werden kann. Eine erste Isolierung von Bestandteilen wurde durch Extraktion von Innenholz bzw. Rinde mit Methanol erzielt. Die in Methanol unlöslichen Bestandteile des Innenholzes und der Rinde wurden anschließend mit ausgewählten ionischen Flüssigkeiten extrahiert. Es wurde ein Verfahren zum selektiven Trennen der mit diesen ionischen Flüssigkeiten extrahierten Bestandteile in Cellulose, Hemicellulose, Lignin und mit Ethylacetat extrahierbare Bestandteile entwickelt. Hierdurch war es möglich, sowohl die verwendeten ionischen Flüssigkeiten als auch das Innenholz und die Rinde hinsichtlich ihres Extraktionsverhaltens miteinander zu vergleichen. Ferner wurden verschiedene Strategien aufgezeigt, um insgesamt drei Spezies an Diarylheptanoiden aus dem methanolischen Extrakt der Rinde zu isolieren. Eines der gefundenen Diarylheptanoide (5 Hydroxy-1,7-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3-heptanon) wurde via Retroaldolreaktion in 4 (3 Oxobutyl)phenol (Himbeerketon) und 3 (4 Hydroxyphenyl)propanal gespalten. Es wurde die Verwendung des 4-(3-Oxobutyl)phenol als Monomerbestandteil untersucht. Hierfür wurde 4-(3-Oxobutyl)phenylmethacrylat synthetisiert und Wege zur Reinigung mittels Säulenchromatographie und Umkristallisation aufgezeigt. Anschließend wurde Poly(4-(3-oxobutyl)phenylmethacrylat) (PObMA) und Polybenzylmethacrylats (PBzMA) aus Massen- und Lösungspolymerisation hergestellt. Die Ausbeuten an PObpMA im Vergleich zum PBzMA liegen bei gleichen Reaktionsbedingungen auf gleichem Niveau. Im Kontrast hierzu ist der Polymerisationsgrad aus freier radikalischer Polymerisation in Masse des PObpMA im Vergleich zum PBzMA um den Faktor 3,7 größer. Die Glasübergangstemperaturen des PObpMA liegen bei gleichen Reaktionsbedingungen sowohl bei freier radikalischer Polymerisation in Masse, als auch bei Lösungspolymerisation über denen des PBzMA. Darüber hinaus wurde die Polymerisation von 4-(3-Oxobutyl)phenylmethacrylat und Benzylmethacrylat mit einem Initiatorsystem bestehend aus Meerrettichperoxidase, Acetylaceton und Wasserstoffperoxid bei Raumtemperatur beschrieben. Die mit enzymatischem Initiatorsystem erzeugten Produkte zeigten starke Übereinstimmung mit Produkten aus Lösungspolymerisationen, welche mit Azobis(isobutyronitril) initiiert wurden. In the present work ways of obtaining various phenolic substances such as lignin, diarylheptanoids and 4-(3-oxobutyl)-phenol (raspberry ketone) from the trunk of the silver birch (Betula pendula) are shown. By methacrylating of 4-(3-oxobutyl)-phenol, a monomer was generated which can be polymerized by free radical mass and solution polymerization, as well as by enzymatic polymerization. A first separation of constituents was achieved by extraction of wood or bark with methanol. The methanol-insoluble components of the interior wood and the bark were then extracted with selected ionic liquids. A process has been developed for selectively separating the ingredients extracted with these ionic liquids into cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin and ethyl acetate extractables. This made it possible to compare both the ionic liquids used as well as the interior wood and the bark with respect to their extraction behavior with each other. Furthermore, different strategies were shown to isolate a total of three species of diarylheptanoids from the methanolic extract of the bark. One of the found diarylheptanoids (5-hydroxy-1,7-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3-heptanone) was cleaved by retroaldolysis in 4-(3-oxobutyl)-phenol (raspberry ketone) and 3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-propanal. The use of 4- (3-oxobutyl) phenol as a monomer component was investigated. For this purpose, 4-(3-oxobutyl)-phenyl methacrylate was synthesized and ways of purification by column chromatography and recrystallization were shown. Subsequently, poly-(4-(3-oxobutyl)-phenyl methacrylate) (PObMA) and polybenzyl methacrylate (PBzMA) were prepared by mass and solution polymerization. The yields of PObpMA compared to PBzMA are at the same level when the same reaction conditions were used. In contrast, the degree of polymerization by free radical polymerization in mass of PObpMA compared to PBzMA is greater by a factor of 3.7. The glass transition temperatures of the PObpMA are both in free radical polymerization in bulk, as well as in solution polymerization over those of PbzMA when the same reaction conditions were used. Moreover, the polymerization of 4-(3-oxobutyl)-phenyl methacrylate and benzyl methacrylate at room temperature with an initiator system consisting of horseradish peroxidase, acetylacetone and hydrogen peroxide has been described. Products produced with enzymatic initiator system showed strong similarity with products from solution polymerizations initiated with Azobis(isobutyronitrile).
