The Wedding model is a recovery-orientated treatment model that was implemented in 2010 as part of a complex change project in the Department of Psychiatry of the Charité at the St. Hedwig Hospital (PUK-SHK). According to this model, all ward structures were changed in order to promote transparency, participation, trialogue and multiprofessional work. A strong focus was also laid on therapeutic attitudes and the opening of acute psychiatric wards. The relevance of the Wedding model as a possible tool to implement a recovery-orientated, person-centered approach of care and its possible role in the reduction of coercion are the subject of this article.

Objective: The present pilot study investigates the feasibility of a standardized debriefing measure of coercive interventions, for which a guideline has been developed., Methods: 12 debriefing sessions were conducted and participating patients and staff members were asked about their perception of the intervention and its benefits. A quantitative and qualitative questionnaire was used and 8 expert-interviews conducted., Results: Patients and staff members found the intervention helpful, especially to support a trustful therapeutic relationship. The possibility to express feelings perceived during the coercive measure was also underlined as a core effect of the intervention. On the contrary, patients and staff members didn't regard the debriefing session as helpful when looking for alternatives to the coercive measure that took place. Reduction in coercion in psychiatric treatment requires successful interaction between changes in structural preconditions and therapeutic processes, as well as in individual therapeutic skills and attitudes. The article gives an overview of current approaches and possibilities to minimize the use of coercive interventions and to create non-violent and participative therapeutic settings. Objective This study explores patients' preferences and measures of prevention of coercive methods in psychiatric treatment. Methods Structured interviews of 90 patients with psychotic disorders were undertaken, most of whom had previously experienced coercive methods. Results Participants saw preventive potential in a wider availability of individual non-pharmacological therapy, improvement of staff professional competence and communication skills, high staff-to-patient ratios and retreat facilities. The majority of participants preferred forced medication and manual restraint in case of self-endangerment, and forced medication and mechanical restraint in the event of endangerment of others. Conclusion Patients' suggestions relating to prevention of coercion are in line with most expert's opinions. Porcine stored blood has been used in the in vitro feeding of the soft tick Ornithodoros moubata through a Parafilm membrane. The efficiency of the feeding decreased after storage of 5 weeks by -20 degrees C. Through addition of 10(-3) M ATP/l the feeding results with frozen blood for duration of storage up to 200 days well agreed with the results of feeding tests with fresh porcine blood: The nymphs (N)1-3 fed the 4-5fold, the N4-6 the 2.7fold and the adults (A) the 1.9fold of their body weight. The feeding rate was 98.6% (N1-3); 92.7% (N4-5) and 81.9% (A). The mortality rate was under 10%. Females laid 130 eggs after blood meal.
