Summary Philippines stingless bee (Tetragonula biroi Friese) pot-pollen are known for their advantageous effects on human health due to a high nutritional value and a broad range of beneficial physiological and pharmacological effects. However, safety aspects regarding this product were rarely examined. Therefore, pollen samples from the Philippines were analyzed for inorganic contaminants and microbiological quality. Obtained values for heavy metals (e.g., arsenic 0.015–0.032 mg/kg, cadmium 0.053–0.153 mg/kg and lead 0.017–0.155 mg/kg) were generally lower compared to previous studies and most were within the safety limits. Further, microbial counts for total aerobic microorganisms, yeasts and molds, Enterobacteriaceae, E. coli, Salmonella, and Staphylococcus aureus were in accordance with the recommended values. Microbial population was diverse and the identified species were mostly endosporeformers such as Bacillus spp. and Clostridium spp., and molds because of the low water activity and low pH of the pot-pollens. Results indicated that good practices in agriculture, hygiene and manufacturing in every step of the production chain must be implemented in order to enhance the quality and safety of this bee product. Overall, pot-pollens from T. biroi are safe for human consumption if hygienic principles are applied.

Die Bundes-Bodenschutz- und Altlastenverordnung (BBodSchV, 1999) regelt Maßnahmen-, Prüf- und Vorsorgewerte für Schadstoffe in Böden. Die Anforderungen an die Bodenanalytik und die Qualitätssicherung sind einschließlich der Schätzung der Messunsicherheit sowie der Angabe der Messunsicherheit mit dem Messergebnis festgelegt. Ohne die Information der Messunsicherheit kann eine Entscheidung, ob die Messergebnisse die gesetzlichen Grenzen einhalten, nicht realisiert werden. Um bei einer Bewertung von Messergebnissen die Messunsicherheit zu beachten, wurde ein Ansatz unter Berücksichtigung des Standes der Technik und gesetzlichen Gesichtspunkten entwickelt. Eine umfangreiche Auswertung von Ringversuchen zu Schadstoffen in Böden wurde unter der Zielsetzung durchgeführt, die Größenordnung der zu erwartenden Messunsicherheiten in der Bodenanalytik zu bestimmen. Die Ergebnisse werden als Parameter- Messunsicherheiten definiert, die in die Bewertung der Einhaltung der gesetzlichen Grenzen, integriert werden müssen. Dieser Ansatz ersetzt nicht die Schätzung der Messunsicherheit wie sie nach DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025: 2005-08 gefordert wird. Daher wurden zusätzlich exemplarisch Messunsicherheiten unter Berücksichtigung unterschiedlicher Böden und Gehaltsniveaus berechnet. Die wesentlichen Unsicherheitsquellen in der Bodenanalytik sind die Kalibrierung, die Methodenpräzision, die Wiederfindung und die Inhomogenität von Bodenproben. Die Anforderungen an die Schätzung der Messunsicherheit werden unter Beachtung des Standes der Technik formuliert. Zur Plausibilitätsüberprüfung von ermittelten Messunsicherheiten können Zielwerte für die Messunsicherheit und Varianzfunktionen, die aus Ringversuchsdaten abgeleitet wurden, genutzt werden. Die Zielwerte für die Messunsicherheit spiegeln sowohl die Gehaltsniveaus der Maßnahmen-, Prüf- und Vorsorgewerte für Schadstoffe in Böden als auch die verfügbaren Daten wieder. Die Varianzfunktionen, die für die Arsen- und Elementbestimmung im Königswasserextrakt und für die polycyclischen aromatischen Kohlenwasserstoffe berechnet wurden, charakterisieren den Zusammenhang zwischen den Gehalten der Ringversuchsbodenproben und der Vergleichsstandardabweichung., The Federal Soil Protection and Contaminated Sites Ordinance (BBodSchV, 1999) regulates action, trigger and precautionary values for contaminants in soils. The requirements in soil analysis and quality assurance are committed including the estimation of measurement uncertainty as well as the indication of measurement uncertainty for the measurement results of the analysis. Without the information of measurement uncertainty decision making with respect to whether measurement results are in compliance with statutory limits could not be realised. In order to fulfil the assessment of measurement results by taking the measurement uncertainties into account an approach was developed while consideration of the state of the art and legislative aspects. A comprehensive evaluation of collaborative trials on contaminants in soil was conducted to estimate the order of magnitude of the expected measurement uncertainties in soil analysis. The results are parameter-specific uncertainties which have to be integrated in the assessment of compliance with legal limits. This approach does not replace the estimation of measurement uncertainties as required by DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025: 2005-08. Thus, in addition measurement uncertainties were calculated exemplarily with respect to different soils and concentration levels. The main uncertainty sources in soil analysis are calibration, method precision, recovery and inhomogeneity of soil samples. Requirements in the estimation of measurement uncertainties are formulated for soil analyses which are applicable considering the state of the art. Target measurement uncertainties and variance functions derived from collaborative trial data can be used as a plausibility check of estimated uncertainties in the laboratory. The target measurement uncertainties reflect concentration levels of the action, trigger and precautionary values for contaminants in soils and available data. Variance functions characterising the dependency of the concentration with reproducibility standard deviation are calculated for elements in aqua regia and for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons based on data of collaborative trials.
