This study reports the first records of two spider species for Hungary: Cyclosa sierrae Simon, 1870 (Araneidae) and Porrhomma oblitum (O. P.-Cambridge, 1871) (Linyphiidae). Cyclosa sierrae also represents the first record of this species from Central Europe. Furthermore, we also provide evidence about the occurence of Dysdera lata Reuss, 1834 and Philodromus marmoratus Kulczyński, 1891 in Hungary, and for six further species we report new data: Brigittea vicina (Simon, 1873) (Dictynidae), Iberina microphthalma (Snazell & Duffey, 1980) (Hahniidae), Mermessus trilobatus (Emerton, 1882) (Linyphiidae), Pulchellodromus ruficapillus (Simon, 1885) (Philodromidae), Lasaeola prona (Menge, 1868) (Theridiidae) and Diaea livens Simon, 1876 (Thomisidae). Comments on the distribution, biology and taxonomy of the ten mentioned spider species are provided.

According to a monitoring on fungal diseases on Cucurbita pepo var. styriaca in July 2018 Golovinomyces orontii and Golovinomyces cucurbitacearum were detected on leaves of Cucurbita pepo var. styriaca. From different localities of the Balkan Peninsula and the Carpathian Basin altogether 19 macrochelid mite species are listed belonging to the genera Geholaspis Berlese, 1918 (three species), Glyptholaspis Filipponi et Pegazzano, 1960 (one species), Longicheles Valle, 1953 (four species), Macrholaspis Oudemans, 1931 (one species), Macrocheles Latreille, 1829 (five species), Neopodocinum Oudemans, 1902 (two species) and Nothrholaspis Berlese, 1918 (three species). New country occurrences are also given for Croatia (three species), Hungary (three species), Macedonia (five species) Romania (five species) and Serbia (seven species).

The mesostigmatid mite family Phytoseiidae was surveyed in rest areas of Hungarian highways by examination of leaves collected from arboreal plants. All together 15 species, ca. 20 % of the Hungarian Phytoseiid fauna were recorded. Seven species were collected from the ring highway around Budapest (M0), ten species were found alongside the northwestern highway (M1), six-six species were recorded from the north-eastern and south-eastern highways (M3 and M5), and five species from the area of south-western highway (M7), finally two species were found on the newly built southern highway (M6). Euseius finlandicus (Oudemans, 1915) was present in most of the sampling sites, while other common species were Phytoseius macropilis (Banks, 1909); Kampimodromus aberrans (Oudemans, 1930); Neoseiulella aceri (Collyer, 1957) and Typhlodromus (Typhlodromus) tiliae Oudemans, 1929. Typhloseiulus peculiaris (Kolodochka, 1980) was shown at the first time from Hungary in the framework of our study, thus a short description and new illustrations are given to this species.

The spitting spider Scytodes fusca Walckenaer, 1837 is recorded for the first time in Central Europe from both Germany and Slovakia. The species was found in two localities, within the Botanical Garden in Bratislava (Slovakia), specifically from a heated greenhouse with high humidity, and the 'Tropical Islands', a tropical holiday resort in Krausnick (Germany). It seems that this Pantropical species has probably been introduced here along with imported plants. A description of diagnostic characters, as well as figures, is given.

The pantropical theridiid spider Coleosoma floridanum Banks, 1900 was recorded for the first time in Slovakia and in the Czech Republic. Both sexes and juveniles were collected in some numbers in heated greenhouses with high humidity. A description and photographs of the species is provided.

A very rare Uropodina mite species; Uroobovella hungarica Hirschmann & Zirngiebl-Nicol, 1962 was discovered in several parts (e.g. Transylvania, Oltenia) of Romania. A new description is given accompanied with several characters not investigated earlier.

The sclerosomatid harvestman Homalenotus quadridentatus (Cuvier, 1795), long known close to the border of Germany, is hereby confirmed for the country. Several specimens were observed and collected in a small urban garden area in the town Aachen, suggesting a considerable population. The finding is briefly discussed, and general remarks on the distribution, ecology and conservation of the species are provided.

An illustrated description of Withius hispanus (L. Koch, 1873) is provided based on its morphological and morphometric characters. This finding of W. hispanus is the first record of the family Withiidae in Slovakia. The present re-description of this species allows an assessment of the variability of its morphological and morphometric characters.

Two species, Pseudosinella bohemica Rusek, 1979 and Folsomides marchicus (Frenzel, 1941) are recorded from Hungary, the latter species for the first time. An illustrated morphological description of the two species is presented.

The rare money spider Walckenaeria simplex Chyzer, 1894 was found in 2007 near the city of Meißen (Germany) on a rock overlooking the river Elbe. This is the northernmost occurrence of the species. W. simplex is distributed from Central to South Eastern Europe. The species is thermophilous and prefers wooded slopes with a southern exposition.

This paper presents the first two European records for the dictynid species Cicurina japonica (Simon, 1881), originally distributed in East Asia. The many specimens caught in the former freight railway station of the "Deutsche Bundesbahnen" (DB) in Basel allow us to present some ideas about the ecology of the species.

The first record of this species outside the Alps is presented from Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The locality, Bad Neuenahr, represents a considerable extension of the known range of a species which has up till now been regarded an endemic of southern Switzerland.

Based on the examination of over 23,000 specimens, distribution, frequency/dominance, morphometric data and ecology of the East German false scorpions are presented. Most samples were collected by the authors, the rest are from Museums and other persons. 38 species were recorded. The preferred habitats and strata of the most species are described. Phoresy was observed for Allochernes peregrinus, Lamprochernes chyzeri, L. nodosus and Pselaphochernes scorpioides. Nine species live in ant nests. Zoogeographic aspects of the species assemblage are discussed in the world wide context. Distribution limits of four species run across the area of investigation.

This paper reports on the first known larva of Atrichops crassipes (Meigen, 1820) from Hungary. The single specimen was caught with flushing of stones during a year-long monthly sampling in the Morgó Stream, Börzsöny Mts. Characterisation of the sampling site, list of the accompanying fauna and a figure on the habitus of the specimen are given.

Chthonius heterodactylus Tömösváry, 1882 is recorded for the first time from the Czech Republic (Hranická chasm). The occurence of this Carpathian species in Central Europe is discussed and the positions of the type localities are corrected.

The first two records of Zoropsis spinimana (Dufour, 1820) in Germany are presented together with a further discovery of the species in Central Switzerland. A spreading of the species from South to North along traffic routes is supposed and climate change is suggested as a possible reason for the species establishing itself in Central Europe.

On the 18th of July, 2006, one singing male individual of Zitting Cisticola (Cisticola juncidis) was observed at Lake Kolon, Central Hungary. It is the first record of this species in Hungary.

Two specimens of Neogobius gymnotrachelus were found in the sidearm system of the Szigetköz floodplain of the Danube (rkm 1837-1836) in September 2004. It was the first detection of this Ponto-Caspian goby in Hungary.
