The rare clinical picture of nasal agenesis is to be presented on the basis of a female newborn. Intrauterine growth restriction with polyhydramnios and midface hypoplasia were noted during pregnancy. Primary cesarean section at 38 + 4 weeks' gestation was done. Airway management was achieved by splinting through a Mayo tube which was subsequently replaced by a pharyngeal endotracheal tube without signs of respiratory failure. In addition to a complete nasal agenesis, hypertelorism, a Gothic palate, bilateral microphthalmus, and iris coloboma were found. Ultrasound scans of cerebral structures were normal. An orogastric tube was placed, and drinking training and a special pacifier improved coordination and drinking performance. We suspected a case of Bosma arhinia microphthalmia syndrome (BAMS). The structural maintenance of chromosomes flexible hinge domain (SMCHD) containing 1 gene plays a key role in the embryogenesis of the human nose and is known for mutations in BAMS. A heterozygous de novo mutation in the SMCHD1 gene (c.1043AG; pHis348Arg) was confirmed by molecular genetic analysis. Initial stabilization after birth is often a challenge in patients with nasal agenesis. They are often intubated immediately postpartum and electively tracheotomized. In the absence of respiratory problems and appropriate growth, however, there is no urgent indication for early plastic surgical treatment, given the inherent risks of sepsis and growth disorders in the midface.Anhand eines weiblichen Neugeborenen soll das seltene Krankheitsbild der konnatalen Nasenagenesie vorgestellt werden. In der Schwangerschaft fielen eine intrauterine Wachstumsrestriktion mit Polyhydramnion und eine Mittelgesichtshypoplasie auf. Das Atemwegsmanagement nach primärer Sectio in der 38 + 4 SSW gelang mittels Schienung durch einen Güdel- bzw. im Verlauf Rachentubus ohne Zeichen einer respiratorischen Insuffizienz. Neben der vollständigen Nasenagenesie zeigten sich bei unauffälligen zerebralen Strukturen ein Hypertelorismus, ein gotischer Gaumen, ein beidseitiger Mikrophthalmus und Iriskolobom. Die Nahrungsaufnahme wurde mit einer orogastralen Sonde sichergestellt, durch Trinktraining und einen speziellen Schnuller konnten eine bessere Koordination und Trinkleistung erzielt werden. Der sich bei assoziierten Fehlbildungen ergebende Verdacht auf ein Bosma-Arhinie-Mikrophthalmie-Syndrom (BAMS) wurde humangenetisch durch den Nachweis einer heterozygoten de novo Mutation im SMCHD1-Gen, welches eine Schlüsselfunktion in der Embryogenese der menschlichen Nase spielt, bestätigt (c.1043AG; pHis348Arg). Aus neonatologischer Sicht ist oftmals die initiale Kreißsaal-Versorgung eine Herausforderung: Patienten mit Nasenagenesie werden häufig postpartal intubiert und elektiv tracheotomiert. Bei fehlender respiratorischer Problematik und Nahrungsaufnahme mit perzentilengerechtem Wachstum besteht jedoch keine dringliche Indikation zur frühzeitigen plastisch-chirurgischen Versorgung, insbesondere da diese mit Gefahren wie Sepsis und Wachstumsstörungen im Mittelgesicht behaftet ist.

In male small ruminants, voiding disturbances are not uncommon. A precise knowledge of the underlying disease is essential for prognostic evaluation as well as for a decision concerning the therapeutic approach. Common reasons for voiding disturbances in the male small ruminant are obstructive urolithiasis, traumata of the penis or inflammatory processes within the urethra or urinary bladder. The diagnostic method of choice - in addition to clinical examination - is diagnostic imaging. Because radiology is not always possible under field conditions, the aim of this article is a detailed presentation of ultrasonography of the distal urethra of the male lamb.

Die Qualität des mit Strickmaschinen hergestellten Gestricks hängt von mehreren Parametern ab. Einer der wichtigsten Parameter ist die Fadenkraft im Strickprozess. Ziel der Dissertation ist die Untersuchung der Fadenkraftänderung mit Hilfe von Simulationen und Experimenten. Untersucht wurden drei Fadenkraftsteuerungssysteme, mit denen jeweils ein Gestrick produziert wurde. Für jedes Gestrick wurde die benötigte Fadenlänge pro Reihe ermittelt und gegenübergestellt. Die drei Fadenkraftsteuerungssysteme werden mit einem Mehrkörpersystem (MKS) simuliert und mit den experimentellen Untersuchungen verglichen und validiert. Eine Schwierigkeit bei der Modellierung ist das Abbilden der elastischen Eigenschaften des Fadens im Modell ohne zusätzliche Lizenz oder Kupplung mit einem anderen Simulationsprogramm zu simulieren. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird ein anderer Lösungsansatz zur Verbesserung der Kontrolle der Fadenkraft aufgezeigt, mittels einer neuen Sensorposition, mit deren Hilfe die Fadenkraft deutlich genauer ermittelt werden kann. Das verwendete Software-Tool zur Abbildung des Mehrkörpersystems ist SIMPACK, zum Teil gekoppelt mit einem Regelalgorithmus im Softwaretool MATLAB/SIMULINK. Analysis of the dynamic behavior of the thread guide in knitting machines The quality of the knitted fabric produced by knitting machines depends on several parameters. One of the most important parameters is the force of thread in the knitting process. The aim of the dissertation is to study the thread force changing with the aid of simulations and experiments. Three control systems for yarn-feed were examined, with each producing a knitted fabric. For each knit the required yarn length per row was determined and compared. The three yarn force control systems are simulated with a multibody system (MBS) and compared to the experimental examination and validated. One difficulty in modeling is the simulation of the elastic properties of the thread in the model without additional license or coupling with another simulation program to simulate. In this dissertation, another approach is demonstrated by a new sensor position to improve the control of the thread force. By means of this new position the yarn force can be determined much more accurately. The used software tool for modeling of multibody system is simpack, which also is coupled with closed-loop control by software Matlab/Simulink.

The returns of investment funds specializing in insurance-linked securities (ILS) exhibit a unique behavior. We introduce a new peril-based factor model, which explains the time-series and cross-sectional return variation. Despite a strong Overall fit, we are left with significantly positive alphas for about one quarter of the funds, some of which can be attributed to beta exposures associated with non-cat-bond ILS. In addition, they are related to fund size, fund age, and performance fees. Although we do not find evidence for market timing abilities, we can rule out pure luck as the source of outperformance by controlling for false discoveries.

Property-casualty (P&C) insurers are exposed to rare but severe natural disasters. This paper analyzes the relation between catastrophe risk and the implied volatility smile of insurance stock options. We find that the slope is significantly steeper compared to non-financials and other financial institutions. We show that this effect has increased over time, suggesting a higher risk compensation for catastrophic events. We are able to link the insurance-specific tail risk component derived from options with the risk spread from catastrophe bonds. Our results provide an accurate, high-frequency calculation for catastrophe risk linking the traditional derivatives market with insurance-linked securities (ILS).
