Both tobacco cessation and low-dose CT screening in at-risk individuals reduce lung cancer-specific and all-cause mortality. As part of a national screening program for the early detection of lung cancer, smoking cessation must be a mandatory part of the counseling given to participants. This increases the cost-benefit effectiveness of the screening program. As part of the initial consultation evidence-based measures for smoking cessation must be offered to smoking participants of the screening program in form of a minimal intervention. If participants do not want to participate in a quit smoking measure they must actively refuse (opt-out rule). Background: Recent analyses have shown that in health services research in Germany, healthcare organisations are often considered primarily as a study setting, without fully taking their complex organisational nature into account, neither theoretically nor methodologically. Therefore, an initiative was launched to analyse the state of Organisational Health Services Research (OHSR) in Germany and to develop a strategic framework and road map to guide future efforts in the field. This paper summarizes positions that have been jointly developed by consulting experts from the interdisciplinary and international scientific community., Methods: In July 2023, a scoping workshop over the course of three days was held with 32 (inter)national experts from different research fields centred around OHSR topics using interactive workshop methods. Participants discussed their perspectives on OHSR, analysed current challenges in OHSR in Germany and developed key positions for the field's development., Results: The seven agreed-upon key positions addressed conceptual and strategic aspects. There was consensus that the field required the development of a research agenda that can guide future efforts. On a conceptual level, the need to address challenges in terms of interdisciplinarity, terminology, organisation(s) as research subjects, international comparative research and utilisation of organisational theory was recognized. Objective:  The aim was to develop a new curriculum for radiology in medical studies, to reach a national consensus and to integrate it into the new national competence-based learning objectives catalog (NKLM 2.0). In this statement of the German Radiological Society (DRG), the process of curriculum development is described and the new curriculum is presented together with suggestions for practical implementation., Materials and Methods:  The DRG has developed a new curriculum for radiology. This was coordinated nationally among faculty via an online survey and the result was incorporated into the NKLM 2.0. Introduction:  The ambulantization of patient care that were previously provided as inpatient service is one of the goals of the current reform in the German healthcare system. In pulmonology, this particularly applies to endoscopic procedures. However, the real costs of endoscopic services, which form the basis for the calculation of a future so called hybrid DRG or in the AOP catalog, are unclear., Methods:  After selection of use cases including endoscopic procedures which can be performed on an outpatient basis by a committee of experts the appropriate DRGs were identified from the § 21-KHEntgG data for 2022 published by the Institute for the Hospital Remuneration System (InEK). E-cigarettes are primarily used by teenagers and young adults. Flavors in e-cigarettes increase their attractiveness and encourage young people and adults to start using them. This exposes young people in particular to the risk of nicotine addiction and various toxic substances from the aerosol of e-cigarettes. There are indications that various flavors in e-cigarettes are harmful to health, although toxicological studies are still lacking for the majority of flavors. With this discussion paper, the subgroup Mixed Methods of the working group Qualitative Research Methods in the non-profit organization German Network Health Services Research (DNVF) is taking up the topic of three previous discussion papers on the significance and potentials of qualitative research methods in health services research. Mixed methods are being increasingly used and demanded in health services research. However, there are also areas of conflict in the planning and implementation of mixed methods studies, and these are addressed in this paper from the perspective of qualitative research. Special attention is given to the aspect of integration as the fundamental signature of mixed methods research. From 2014 to 2022, the BMBF has funded five research networks in prevention research and health promotion that are also jointly coordinated (Research Network Primary Prevention and Health Promotion, www.fp2g.net). The researchers have produced a large number of relevant research outputs with insights gained into essential aspects of prevention research and health promotion. The networks research focused on basic principles, application-relevant findings, and implementation conditions of long-term prevention and health promotion for non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The constraints imposed by the pandemic from 2020 onwards were partly addressed by integrating Corona-related research and transfer activities. The importance of resilience for dealing with multiple health and social challenges got increased attention and was analyzed and discussed during the pandemic. For prevention research, research questions such as how to better implement prevention measures through digital tools are gaining additional importance. Together, the research networks have presented achievements and desiderata for future research. This perspective paper with its nine theses formulated in conclusion is intended as a stimulus for discussion among funders as well as the communty of researchers on the subject of successful prevention and health promotion. The development and application of digital interventions in health-related topics are gaining momentum in health service research. Digital interventions are often complex and need to be evaluated and implemented in complex settings. Due to their characteristics, this poses methodological challenges for health services research that have to be identified and addressed. Hence, the Working Group on Digital Health of the German Network for Health Services Research (DNVF) has prepared a discussion paper. The methodological challenges of evaluating digital interventions (DI) for health services research are omnipresent. The Digital Health Working Group of the German Network for Health Services Research (DNVF) presented and discussed these challenges in a two-part discussion paper. The first part addressed challenges in definition, development and evaluation of DI. Goals for health and health care are an indispensable basic requirement for a functioning health care system. The dilemma of the German health care system is that it has not been designed in a planned way, but that it has grown historically. In recent years, it has developed through the free play of forces into what it is today. The OECD characterizes the current state as follows: The costs of the German health system do not correspond to the often only average health outcomes for the population. To meet the legal requirements (especially SGB V §§ 12, 27 and 70), health care/the health system in Germany needs concrete goals. An orientation towards health care goals entails measures on all levels of health care: on the macro level (overall system/total population), on the meso level (subdivided according to regions, specific population groups, etc.) as well as on the micro level (patients and health care providers). Based on national and international experiences, this position paper of the DNVF e.V. (German Network for health services research) shows the potential of how operationalised health care targets can ensure effective, affordable and high-quality health care. The coalition agreement of the current government propagates a reorientation with patient-related health care goals. Now it is important to derive concrete and realisable goals from this declaration of intent and to involve all important groups in the process. In addition, values and ethical standards for implementation shall be agreed upon in this process. The Health Ministry (BMG) should facilitate and promote the process of societal will-building for the definition of national health care goals. This requires a clear political will. As a result, the National Health Care Goals are available at the end of the process, which are published and maintained together with evidence-based facts as well as valid and resilient data in a Manual "National Health Care Goals". The operational responsibility for implementation could lie with the newly to be founded Federal Institute of Public Health, as already announced in the agreement of the governing coalition. Background: Currently two intravitreally applied corticosteroids (dexamethasone and fluocinolone) are licensed in Germany for treatment of diabetic macular oedema (DME). The use of DEX implant for DME in daily clinical practice has not been defined in detail. Following a Delphi panel survey, a group of retina experts set out to come up with a consensus for use of the DEX implant in DME., Material and Methods: International and national treatment recommendations were identified from the literature. A steering group generated a catalogue of 72 statements on the aetiology and pathogenesis of DME, therapy with DEX implant, use of DEX implant in patients previously treated with VEGF-inhibitors, use of DEX implant in combination therapy, safety of DME therapies as well as patients' burden of treatment. Twenty-two ophthalmologists from private practice and 6 hospital ophthalmologists participated in the Delphi panel via Survey Monkey. Consensus was reached if at least 75% of participants agreed or disagreed with a statement. Statements for which consensus was not reached were discussed once more during the expert consensus meeting and a vote was taken. Based on these results a treatment algorithm for foveal DME was proposed., Results: If a patient does not show sufficient response after 3 - 6 months of anti-VEGF treatment (visual acuity gain of < 5 ETDRS letters or reduction of central retinal thickness ≤ 20%), a switch to DEX implant should take place. DEX implant is also suitable in eyes with longer presentation of DME, showing e.g. massive lipid exudates. DEX implant is suitable as first-line therapy especially in pseudophakic patients, patients unwilling or able to comply with tight anti-VEGF injection intervals or patients with known vascular diseases. With fixed control visits every 4 - 8 weeks, use of DEX implant is flexible and individual. Decision parameters for repeated use should be visual acuity, retinal thickness and intraocular pressure. Treatment of both eyes on the same day should not take place., Conclusion: The algorithm presented reflects survey as well as expert discussion results and may differ from recommendations issued by the German professional society. Sarcoidosis is a multisystemic granulomatous disorder which affects the respiratory system in the majority of the cases. Symptomatic cardiac manifestations are found in less than 10 % of the affected cohorts and show a large heterogeneity based on the ethnic background. Cardiac sarcoidosis is not only found in patients with rhythmogenic heart disease, such as atrial and ventricular fibrillation but also in all phenotypes of cardiomyopathy. The term "digital health" is currently the most comprehensive term that includes all information and communication technologies in healthcare, including e-health, mobile health, telemedicine, big data, health apps and others. Digital health can be seen as a good example of the use of the concept and methodology of health services research in the interaction between complex interventions and complex contexts. The position paper deals with 1) digital health as the subject of health services research; 2) digital health as a methodological and ethical challenge for health services research. The often-postulated benefits of digital health interventions should be demonstrated with good studies. First systematic evaluations of apps for "treatment support" show that risks are higher than benefits. The need for a rigorous proof applies even more to big data-assisted interventions that support decision-making in the treatment process with the support of artificial intelligence. Of course, from the point of view of health services research, it is worth participating as much as possible in data access available through digital health and "big data". However, there is the risk that a noncritical application of digital health and big data will lead to a return to a linear understanding of biomedical research, which, at best, accepts complex conditions assuming multivariate models but does not take complex facts into account. It is not just a matter of scientific ethical requirements in health services care research, for instance, better research instead of unnecessary research ("reducing waste"), but it is primarily a matter of anticipating the social consequences (system level) of scientific analysis and evaluation. Diagnosis and treatment of sleep disordered breathing (SDB) undergo substantial changes, both in terms of increasing scientific knowledge and also in terms of patient provision and socio-economic aspects. Increasing evidence shows the relevance of SDB on morbidity and mortality of affected patients. The precise differentiation of different phenotypes of SDBs has improved substantially in recent years. These proceedings influence the approach to the patients suspected of suffering from SDB. The scientific advances on the one hand are facing intentions to simplify diagnostical processes and treatment initiation and intentions to translate duties of physicians to non-medical personnel on the other hand. This consensus paper presents the principals of diagnosis, treatment initiation and provision, including the role of different participants of the healthcare system, and compares different treatment options. Sleep related breathing disorders (SRBD) impair quality of live, morbidity and mortality of affected patients seriously. Moreover, due to their high prevalence, they have a huge impact on health care systems and national economics. The members of the German Respiratory Society, the German Society of Sleep Research and Sleep Medicine, the Association of Pneumological Clinics and the Association of Pneumologists focus strongly on the diagnosis and treatment of SRBD in their daily work. Prevailing developments in the provision of patients with SRBD, have strong impact on the quality of diagnosis and treatment, on the supply of devices, on the follow-up care and on the role and duties of the physician. In this first part of a 3-part discussion paper the working group "Qualitative Methods" in the German Network of Health Services Research (DNVF) identifies the potentials and opportunities qualitative research methods provide for health services research. Many research questions relevant for health services research require the use of qualitative methods. However, the potential of and need for qualitative research in health services research has not yet received sufficient attention from funding bodies. We discuss the applicability and importance of qualitative research for the field of health services research. We then move on to describe the key characteristics of qualitative research that need to be taken into account in health services research. We discuss characteristics such as open-ended (qualitative) data, interpretation of meanings, the search for contradictions, closeness to everyday life, openness towards change or modification of the research question and processes in the context of health services research. To ensure a high-quality approach in qualitative methods for the health services research, sufficient competency in methods and appropriate settings that account for the peculiarities of qualitative methods need to be developed. These include an appropriate time frame and sufficient and qualified personnel to conduct qualitative research. Qualitative research is not a research paradigm in itself rather it comprises of many different and diverging approaches. Background: This is the second part of a 3-part discussion paper by the working group on "Qualitative Methods" in the German network of health services research (DNVF) that shall contribute to the development of a memorandum concerning qualitative health services research. It aims to depict the different types of qualitative research that are conducted in health services research in Germany. In addition, the authors present a specific set of qualitative data collection and analysis tools to demonstrate the potential of qualitative research for health services research. QUALITATIVE RESEARCH IN HEALTH SERVICES RESEARCH - AN OVERVIEW: To give an overview of the types of qualitative research conducted in German health services research, the abstracts of the 8th German Conference on Health Services Research were filtered to identify qualitative or mixed-methods studies. These were then analysed by looking at the context which was studied, who was studied, the aims of the studies, and what type of methods were used. Those methods that were mentioned most often for data collection and analysis are described in detail. QUALITATIVE RESEARCH AT THE CONFERENCE FOR HEALTH SERVICES RESEARCH 2009: Approximately a fifth of all abstracts (n=74) had a qualitative (n=47) or a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative and qualitative methods (n=27). Research aims included needs assessment (41%), survey development (36%), evaluation (22%), and theorizing (1%). Data collection mostly consisted of one-on-one interviews (n=45) and group discussions (n=29). Qualitative content analysis was named in 35 abstracts, 30 abstracts did not reference their method of analysis. In addition to a quantitative summary of the abstract findings, the diversity of fields addressed by qualitative methods is highlighted., Conclusion: Although drawing conclusions on the use of qualitative methods in German health services research from the analysis of conference abstracts is not possible, the overview we present demonstrates the diversity of methods used for data collection and analysis and showed that a few select methods are extensively used. Lung transplantation in cystic fibrosis is an established therapy, due to the fact that vast majority of adult CF patients will develop respiratory failure. Even adolescents and children can be transplanted successfully today. Lung transplantation in cystic fibrosis requires special consideration concerning candidate selection, surgery and postoperative follow-up care. Due to a donor shortage and increasing waiting time, early referral to transplant centres of potential candidates is crucial. In the process of candidate selection, assumed improvements in quality of life and survival benefit should be weighed against contraindications. Centre-based follow-up and close cooperation with local physicians are key factors for success. The advances in intensive and critical care medicine have not only improved the prognosis of patients with acute respiratory failure but have also increased the number of ventilator-dependent patients. The continuously increasing number of patients, the differentiation of care-giving institutions and the technical progress make it necessary to re-evaluate the quality of health care in weaning centres and outpatient care of patients on long-term ventilation. Therefore, the German medical associations of pneumology and ventilatory support, "Deutsche Gesellschaft für Pneumologie und Beatmungsmedizin e. V." and the "Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Heimbeatmung und Respiratorentwöhnung e. V.", wish to present this actual position paper. However, scientific guidelines are in preparation.

In the past, phenomenological research on subjective body experience was characterised by vaguely defined terminology and methodological shortcomings. The term "body image" has been applied heterogeneously in literature in order to describe a variety of bodily phenomena. In this paper, the German terminology applied to the phenomenology of body experiences is described systematically. In developing a systematic terminology the authors refer to scientific evidence as well as recent reviews, and closely adhere to definitions commonly used in English literature. Different perspectives are utilised, particularly anthropological concepts and theories from developmental and self-psychology. Distinct aspects of body experience are described within the context of a network of external determinants and along a continuum between somatic and mental anchor points. Applying the term "body experience" as umbrella term, different aspects are defined: perceptive (body schema/-perceive), affective (body-cathexis), cognitive-evaluative (body-image, body-ego) and body-consciousness. It is emphasized, that the distinct description of functional levels has to be taken as an approximation of the reality of integrated body experience.

Mechanisms of allergen immunotherapy (AIT) are complex inducing numerous immunological effects. Successful AIT is most likely based on a functional switch of and tolerance induction in specific T cells downregulating allergic hypersensitivity and inflammation. Subcutaneous AIT for allergic rhinoconjunctivitis and allergic asthma has been successfully assessed in controlled studies with several clinically important allergens (i. e. birch-, grass- and mugwortpollen, dust mites, animal dander) and has shown convincing clinical efficacy. Considered as the only causal treatment besides allergen avoidance at present, AIT can alter the natural course of allergic diseases. Hymenopteravenom hypersensitivity (to bee- and wasp venom) treated with AIT gives the best results compared to AIT with other allergens. AIT is indicated in patients with IgE-mediated sensitizations and corresponding clinical symptoms to allergens, which do not or hardly permit allergen avoidance and which are available as suitable extracts. Decisions about indication and allergen selection should only be made by a physician with certified training or qualified knowledge and skills in allergology. AIT is administered by physicians experienced in this therapy. After addressing tolerability and present status of health the recommended or individually adjusted does is injected and precisely documented, followed by a mandatory waiting period of 30 minutes. Indication for and application of AIT in children are quite similar compared to the treatment of adults. Children tolerate AIT very well and benefit especially from its immunomodulatory effects. Risk factors for and results of unwanted systemic effects can effectively be minimized by training of the staff members involved, adhering to safety standards and immediate emergency treatment. Modified allergens, recombinant proteins and immunomodulatory adjuvants created by basic research are promises for an improved efficacy of AIT with reduced unwanted effects in the future.

Objective: The present study was designed to assess who is responsible for publications in important english-written intensive care journals., Methods: 10 english-written journals that exclusively or mainly publish intensive care papers were analysed over the past 10 years (from 1988 to 1997). All German universities were included and publications were specified according to the speciality (e.g. anesthesiology, internal medicine, neurosurgery) and the university of origin of the publication. Letters, abstracts, editorials, meeting-reports, and news were not included in the analysis., Results: A total of 804 publications was found in the analysed journals. 343 publications were originated from interne medicine departments (433 of all publications), 207 were from anesthesiology departments (26%). Papers from surgical departments were only rarely found (cardiac surgery: 14 papers; neurosurgery: 12 papers; general/trauma surgery: 34 papers). 150 publications originated from neurology departments, and only 44 pediatric intensive care papers were found. A wide range of contributions from the specific universities were seen (ranging from 0 to 43 papers). Universities from former East Germany published very rarely in international intensive care journals (3%)., Conclusion: Only few German universities have published in important intensive care journals over the past 10 years. Some interne medicine and some anesthesia departments were markedly engaged in this speciality, whereas several other universities and most universities from former East Germany did not participate significantly in the international intensive care literature.

Background: The use of cotton swabs is well known as a cause of a traumatic membrane perforation. More reasons are known. A detailed description of the aetiology and therapy in Germany does not exist. The treatment consist of a readaptation of the perforation an splinting of the tympanic membrane with paper sheets or silicon foils., Materials and Methods: 238 patients with an acute tympanic membrane perforation were included in this retrospective study. They were treated between 2005 and 2010., Results: The mean causes of a traumatic tympanic membrane perforation were slaps with the open hand (37.4%), the use of a cotton swab (19.3%) and high diving (13.0%). The perforations have been splinted with paper sheets or silicon foils. The rate of complete wound closure after splinting with different materials are comparable (71.9% and 81.8%). The side effects are low., Conclusion: This is the first study about the aetiology of traumatic tympanic membrane perforations in Germany. There is no statistic difference between the 2 materials for tympanic membrane splinting. Goal of the Study: An intent of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Acts (ACA), also know as Obama Care, was to slow the expenditure growth in the public Medicare-System by shifting the accountability for health care outcomes and costs to the provider. For this purpose, provider were allowed to form networks, which would then take accountability for a defined population - Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs). Ten years after the introduction of ACOs, this paper looks at the impact of ACOs both on quality of care and costs of care to assess if ACOs can be a model of care delivery for Germany., Methods: In a mixed-method approach, a rapid review was conducted in Health System Evidence and PubMed. This was supported with further papers identified using the snowballing-technique. After screening the abstracts, we included articles containing information on cost- and/or quality impact of US-Medicare-ACOs. The findings of the rapid review were challenged with 16 ACO-experts and stakeholder in the USA., Results: In total, we included 60 publications which incorporated 6 reports that were either conducted directly by governmental institutions or ordered by them, along with 3 previous reviews. Among these, 31 contained information on costs of care, 18 contained information on quality of care and 11 had information on both aspects. The publications show that ACOs reduced costs of of care. Cost reductions were achieved compared to historic costs, to populations not cared for in ACOs, and counterfactuals. Quality of care stayed the same or improved., Conclusion: ACOs contributed to slowing the cost growth in US Medicare without compromising quality of care. Thus, a transferal of this model of care to Germany should be considered. However, various policies have led to ACOs failing to unleash their full potential. Background: The SARS-Cov-2 outbreak in the spring of 2020 challenged the health care system, and thus primary care, on an unprecedented scale. Knowledge about the new disease was low, whereas the dynamics of knowledge generation were high and inhomogeneous. A number of new primary care tasks related to the pandemic situation emerged. Guidance in the management of COVID-19 was therefore needed, although robust evidence was not yet available. The information required concerned not only the virus and the new disease COVID-19, but also regulatory requirements and organizational issues. In this situation, a flexible, web-based information tool, easy to update and usable at the point of care, was developed at Karl Landsteiner Private University Krems and put online under the name of "COVID-19: prevention and management in primary care practices" on March 25, 2020. In a retrospective process description, we describe the needs-triggered process of developing and disseminating a practice-based tool to support practicing primary care physicians in a period of high uncertainty with an urgent need for information. Afterwards, we reflect on the learning process from a purely pragmatic to an increasingly structured approach and try to draw conclusions regarding optimization possibilities in terms of creation and dissemination., Conclusion and Outlook: In situations of high uncertainty combined with an acute need for action and decision-making, there is a significant need for information that is as reliable as possible. Science transfer must be done in such a way that information can be implemented quickly. Dissemination, as always, plays an essential role. Gaps must be accepted. A structured process of quality assurance must be established in parallel. Background: The project "Health for Everyone in the District" was implemented in Nuremberg from May 2017 to October 2022 as part of the law passed to strengthen health promotion and disease prevention with funding from Public Health Insurance, Bavaria. The aim was to implement health promotion measures through a decentralized system in four deprived parts of the city and thus promote health equity on site. Among other aspects, program loyalty, project scope, and acceptance, as well as continuity and establishment of permanent structures underwent external assessment., Method: As part of the evaluation, quantitative data from the paper-and-pencil feedback forms of the measures (n=580), four qualitative focus group interviews with participants of the project (n=20), and an in-depth partially standardized predominantly quantitative online survey of participants and course instructors from the districts (n=67) were conducted., Results: The programs were accepted by those most in need, namely women, elderly people and those with a migration background. Women, senior citizens and people with a migration background were well reached by the measures. The very high level of satisfaction with the measures showed that there were opportunities for implementation of health promotion measures into daily life taking into consideration the local environment and deprived target groups. The specifications of the guidelines for prevention, however, represented a hurdle for the long-term establishment of the measures in these districts., Conclusion: The project "Health for Everyone in the District " represents a local low-threshold approach to social situation-related health promotion in the municipal setting and is suitable for reaching deprived target groups with health-promoting measures. Studies using secondary data such as health care claims data are often faced with methodological challenges due to the time-dependence of key quantities or unmeasured confounding. In the present paper, we discuss approaches to avoid or suitably address various sources of potential bias. In particular, we illustrate the target trial principle, marginal structural models, and instrumental variables with examples from the "GePaRD" database. Background: Underimmunization against influenza has been increasing in recent years. A spatial clustering of underimmunization is suspected. These clusters can pose risks to health care and make achieving immunization quality standards difficult. The objectives of this paper are to (a) identify and describe PLZ-level spatial clusters with high levels of underimmunization against influenza, (b) compare the clusters with other preventive services, and (c) model possible factors influencing underimmunization., Material and Methods: From the routine data of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance physicians Westphalia-Lippe, patients ≥ 60 years and vaccinations between 2012-2017 were extracted. As a methodology, the spatial scan statistics were chosen, which show high relative risks of underimmunization in clusters., Results and Discussion: Four statistically significant clusters of underimmunization against influenza were identified, which proved to be stable even after adjustment with the temporal trend of local underimmunization rates. In the flu season 2016/2017, the underimmunization rate in the higher risk clusters (RR>1) was 71.9-74.7% and the rate outside these clusters was 67.0%. As influencing factors on underimmunization, socio-economic factors and vaccination behavior in the preseason were identified. Underimmunization rates are geographically clustered. Aim of Study: An occupational health management system was initiated at 11 departments under the German Ministry of Defense (MoD) at the beginning of 2015. The departments were characterized by the heterogeneity of employees and the tasks of the departments. The aim of this pilot phase was to get experience and knowledge for implementation of this system in other departments. At the beginning of the pilot phase, an employee attitude survey was conducted to examine the situation., Methods: The survey included all 9,267 employees of the eleven departments. A combination of a web-based online survey and a paper-pencil survey was used., Results: In total, 2,076 (22.4%) of all employees took part in the survey. Objective: The aim of this study was to measure the acceptance of a telemedical, inpatient-outpatient care concept by physicians, patients and the relatives of patients. Based on a quantitative survey of acceptance, both the potential and success factors influencing the use of telemedicine were to be highlighted., Methods: The TELnet@NRW study is a national, multicenter, cluster-randomized study in stepped-wedge design conducted from February 2017 to January 2020 for the purpose of documenting changes in the quality of care through telemedicine in an inpatient-outpatient network. Consultations were focused on intensive care medicine and infectious diseases. This current study used questionnaires for specific groups of patients to determine acceptance of the telemedical care concept practiced in the main study. The survey was anonymously conducted once in either digital or paper-based form during the reporting period., Results: The answers of 126 questionnaires from physicians and 1686 questionnaires from patients and their relatives were evaluated. The physicians of both sectors attributed high potential (up to 88.4%) for telemedicine to improve guideline-adherent treatment. A trustworthy and appreciative communication during the telemedical consultation represented a positively reinforcing success factor. The additional workload generated by telemedicine inhibited acceptance, especially in the inpatient sector. A continuation of telemedicine beyond the end of the project was supported by the majority of surveyed physicians (inpatient 60.6%, outpatient 82.1%) as well as in patients and their relatives (inpatient 79.7%, outpatient 57.4%) in both sectors., Conclusion: There is widespread acceptance of telemedical, inpatient-outpatient care concepts among physicians, patients and their relatives. Low-effort processes and user-centered technology are crucial to increase the rate of use. Myopia is the most common cause of visual impairment in children and young adults. In order to assess the consequences for society, it is necessary to know temporal trends in prevalence, incidence and associated factors in childhood and adolescence, as well as the rate of myopia progression, as based on epidemiological research. This paper presents a literature review of publications from 2020 up to March 2024, supplemented by other relevant publications. The prevalence of myopia in children and adolescents in Germany is almost stable and is significantly lower than in Asia.
