The book "Foreign Countries of Old Age. East and Southeast European Perspectives on Aging" by Dagmar Gramshammer-Hohl and Oana Hergenröther examines the topic of aging in Eastern and Southeastern Europe. It contains contributions on historical changes in the role of older people in the family and society, ethnographic and socio-psychological analyses of age-related behavior and attitudes in rural and urban areas, as well as literary texts on the topic of aging. The anthology also addresses topics such as intergenerational relationships, solidarity networks, care and nursing, as well as loneliness. However, it also raises questions that have not yet been sufficiently addressed, such as the treatment of aging Roma women in Southeastern and Eastern Europe. This anthology demonstrates the potential of aging studies and sheds light on various influential aspects of everyday life such as gender, socioeconomic class, ethnicity, and religion.
