The article reports on a conference on the demographics and statistics of human casualties during World War II, held in Budapest, Hungary, on December 9-10, 2012. Papers addressed case studies and methodological problems regarding the accounting of victims in several belligerent countries in Europe, including Germany, the USSR, and Poland. Research tools, such as various databases, and the political implications of historiography in this field were also discussed.
