RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of the paper was to discuss a function of passion in professional personal lives of eminent Cracow musicians. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The paper raises the problem of the role of passion in the process of shaping musical eminence, answers the question of the scope of experiencing it as well as it manifesting in activities of outstanding individuals. In conducted research and interpretations, the qualitative perspective and biographical method were applied. The leading technique was problem-concentrated qualitative interview, partially structured, carried out with ten eminent instrumentalists. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The theoretical basis for this reading of the experience of educational biographies was provided by the Model of Authentic Vocation of J. Weller and the Dualistic Model of Passion of A. Bonneville-Roussy, G. Lavigne and R. Vallerand. The interpretations of the research material described the topography of experiencing passion. RESEARCH RESULTS: The article describes autonomous passion associated with musical mastery, instrumental motivation to practice, as well as distinguishes important factors that determine the experience of passion, persistence or burnout (tenacity, ambition, community transfer, conflict of motives, work overload), and concretizes the qualities of musical passion of outstanding musicians: professionalization, love of music, integrity, creativity, strength and determination in pursuit of goals, as well as humility in the face of challenges. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Deciphering the senses and meanings that prominent Cracow musicians attributed to passion suggests that it was autonomous, harmonious and instrumental, motivated by the pursuit of mastery, and that the trajectories of the musicians’ professional biographies were a manifestation of a “professionalization of passion,” which formed the core of their educational experience and constituted and defined their life creed.

The paper presents the multifaceted identity of the Hindu goddess Mahādevī, the dynamic feminine absolute of the religious tradition Śāktism, whose philosophical foundations have shaken several assumptions of established religious and social norms. Śāktism remains an integral part of the philosophical-religious landscape of the complex totality of Hinduism, while also stretching beyond narrow religious contexts and critically examines normative patterns of patriarchal social reality. In the first chapter, the paper outlines the origins of the formation of the goddess cult, from the earliest period of Indian civilization to the Purāṇas, and then introduces the key ideas of the goddess myth in the Devīmāhātmya, where, for the first time in the spiritual history of India, a goddess is defined as the Supreme Reality, who reconciles all opposites within herself. The interpretation of the most significant segments of the goddess myth is built on the basis of an analysis of the changes in metaphysics, specifically the transition from the pre-Tantric dualistic metaphysical system to the non-dualistic one in Tantra. This is followed by an outline of the two branches of Śāktism that were formed out of the two seemingly incompatible poles of the identity of the Supreme Goddess: on the one hand, as a benevolent mother and obedient wife, and on the other as a fierce, ruthless and independent female, which is discussed in more detail in the last chapter through a case study of two goddesses, Lakṣmī and Kālī.

The Current European Digital Competence Framework for Lifelong Learning (DigComp 2.2) includes five areas with 21 sub-competences, and most of them are included in the European Master’s in Translation (EMT) 2009-2022 frameworks. Which of these will be included in the curricula depends on the level of the study program (BA or MA) and the needs of the students, who we tend to believe are digital nomads. In the educational context of our study various areas of digital competences (DC) are developed implicitly as part of translation assignments and are not specifically acknowledged and assessed. In this paper we investigate how the students perceive their DC and whether this is connected to the number and type of translation courses taken and their view of themselves as future translators. The data was collected via an online questionnaire. The informants (N=58) assessed 25 statements on a five-point Likert scale, thereby reporting how skilled they believed they were with respect to various digital practices. The data was coded and analysed with the SPSS software package. The statistical tests include descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation, a one-way ANOVA and a two-way ANOVA. The results show that the students have a high perception of their DC, but no significant connection can be established between the pedagogical input and the students’ perception in this regard. The paper ends with the analysis of the pedagogical implications of this finding for teachers and course developers.

This paper discusses the opportunities and challenges of integrating science and technology studies (STS), especially the variant based on actor–network theory (ANT), into fields of human geography with a critical research tradition. Drawing on the experiences of political ecology and empirical research on carbon markets, it uses the example of reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+) to show how the turn towards such STS impacts has changed the “framing” of REDD+: from analysing REDD+ as an example of the “neoliberalization of nature” and a focus on the impacts on human forest users to detailed accounts of infrastructures and practices of making markets. Discussing the consequences of these observations and different proposals brought forward to combine ANT with political ecology, the paper argues for a conscious and reflective use of ANT-inspired STS approaches to benefit from the additional insights this approach allows while keeping the critical potential of geography alive.

This paper deals with the so-called “Brothers poem”, fr. 10 Voigt = Neri, which is up to now the most recent papyrological discovery attributed to Sappho. In its first part, the paper investigates the identities, the actions, and the mutual relationships of the characters featuring in this new poem. In its second one, it will be discussed how the Sapphic lines deal with themes such as power relations, oppression, social hierarchy, and behavioral expectations in relation to genre.

This paper aims to show how a teleological model of reality and knowledge can be of aid in order to understand the connection between objective knowledge and subjective experience. The separation between them seems indeed to have been established by an opposite deterministic ontological and epistemological model within modern philosophy, which does not allow to explain the subjective relevance of objective knowledge and the objective relevance of subjective experience. In order to overcome this aporetic dichotomy, the paper will underline the actuality of the Aristotelian teleological conception of knowledge and experience and its heritage especially in contemporary philosophy.

In allusion to the famous Johannine dictum, this paper seeks to explore the relationship between beauty and liberation. Liberation is here understood in terms of a movement toward transforming all reality in accordance with the principles of the coming reign of God, ‘so that God may be all in all’ (1 Cor 15:28). Complementarily, beauty is not interpreted merely as a matter of taste and preference but as something that permeates all dimensions of being human. The paper, therefore, argues that beauty not only gives expression to the human yearning for transformation but that both beauty and liberation represent the constitutive elements of Christian praxis. Thus, beauty provides a framework through which the current reality can not only be seen but also discerned, experienced, and performed in a new way, thus effectively opening up possibilities for transformation as God’s project of inaugurating a new heaven and a new earth. Therefore, it will be proposed that beauty represents a key theme for theological reflection (locus theologicus), having aesthetic, ethical, and ontological implications for Christian theology. This point will not only be discussed in conversation with various theological voices but also illustrated through engagement with cinema, namely, Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog.

Writing about the lyric of Hans Bergel is an unusual challenge for the researcher. The Transylvanian author, who emigrated to Germany, is known especially for his prose texts; his lyric falls on the second place in his writings, but this doesn’t mean, that Hans Bergel’s poems aren’t successful lyrical texts. He describes in them a variety of places, in which the atmosphere and colours reflect not only the lyrical side, but also the narrative side of the author. Bergel approaches the description of a place contemplatively and reflects on its spiritual correlations. His astonishing wealth of thoughts manifests itself in an inspired stream of language to which he entrusts himself. Each of Bergelʼs literary statements has in common the musicality and richness of the language. In everything Bergel writes, one can find his entire personality, his rich experience with literature and the world. He registers the experiences, feelings and thoughts that he has recorded along his life path and he relives his experiences through language. Therefore a story cannot exist without the music of the language, a poem without philosophical and essayistic incursions. The research on the contemporary Transylvanian literature does not focus on this side of Hans Bergel, but there are a few philologists, who refer concisely to the lyric of the author. This paper with the above title would like to widen this research, by revealing new aspects of the work of Hans Bergel. The study of Transylvanian-German literature as minority literature has subject-related risks, because research focuses from the outset on a specific context and operates within a quasi-prescribed framework. One wonders, however, whether it is possible to break out of this framework with either traditional or modern means, and suggest new ways of addressing Bergelʼs work as a theme. This paper seeks to answer this question.

Ever since the operation of the first civilian Earth observation (EO) satellites gained momentum in the 1970s, potential benefits and disadvantages of transferring space science and technologies, such as remote sensing techniques, have also been discussed in relation to developing countries. However, this debate has so far largely taken place at a macro-comparative level. This paper presents results from moving to the ethnographic micro level in southwest Nigeria. It sets the experiences of researchers from the Global South, who use remote sensing data, in relation to a critical review of (post-)development theory perspectives and corresponding discourses in postcolonial science and technology studies (STS). The paper discusses how researchers construct collective agency towards capacity building as a shared liberatory language in relation to an amalgam of experienced and contested places in the EO community. At the intersection of STS, geography and the arena of development policies, these experiences create their own spatial references to a developing niche that invites scholars and development practitioners to rethink and reorganise knowledge production and technologies in a postcolonial world.

In this paper we analyze culture as integral aspect of everyday life and the ways culture is actualized through cultural participation. The research presented in this paper is part of the Center for Designing the Everyday project, which aims to explore the current state and possibilities for establishing a new model of participatory governance in culture based on the model of participatory democracy. In this research, designed and conducted to assess the state of cultural participation at two intervals over a two-year period, the aim was to determine whether there are differences in the types of participation and motivations for participation in cultural events and activities before and after initiatives aimed at reinforcing the model of participatory governance. The paper draws on three conceptual turns, namely postmodern, cultural, and participatory, to examine the repositioning of cultural participation in everyday life. Two surveys were undertaken in 2018 and 2020 in Zagreb, targeting an intentional sample of visitors to cultural institutions and associations operating in the field of visual arts. Given the specific timeframe, the results are interpreted in the context of the pandemic. Results imply strengthening of cultural participation connected to cultural consumption, while participation connected to cultural production is decaling. Furthermore, interactive cultural participation in digital and virtual environment indicates inequalities among different social groups especially when it comes to elderly population that has proven to be vulnerable in terms of frequency and availability of interactive cultural participation.

Contemporary historiography, so far, has not engaged in researching the biography of Ivan Šalić, the personal secretary of the Archbishop of Zagreb Alojzije Stepinac. Since the communist system was averse to Šalić and the Catholic Church in Croatia, it is not surprising that, to date, no one has made a critical review and analyzed his life and priestly service. This paper aims to show the life and significance of Ivan Šalić based on archival documents held in the Croatian State Archives in Zagreb and Šalić's birthplace in Bebrina (near Slavonski Brod). Numerous postal cards and letters testify to his life, especially the period when he was imprisoned in the Stara Gradiška Penitentiary (1946–1953). The paper will present his life from birth to death and analyze the correspondence with his family to emphasize his importance for the Catholic Church in Croatia.

This paper will analyze the concept of the meaning of life in Frank Capra’s film It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) from a logotherapy aspect and with the support of Catholic theory. Namely, the film depicts how George Bailey, faced with a major life difficulty, self-transcends himself and discovers meaning through work and deeds, love, and the attitude toward unavoidable suffering. The notions of the responsibility of every human being to their life and God, the uniqueness of every individual and the specific tasks life sets before them, and the acceptance of one’s own position will also be examined with regard to Bailey’s actualization of the meaning of life. The paper will conclude by identifying the effect this film has on its viewers due to the way it tackles the topic of the meaning of life, which makes it suitable for a therapeutic method cinematherapy, used in logotherapy.

This paper discusses five works from the recently attributed collection of Charles-Louis Clérisseau’s drawings at the French National Library, which are here published for the first time. In terms of composition, they are clearly comparable to famous prints by Giovanni Battista Piranesi. This paper offers a comparative analysis in order to highlight the originality of Clérisseau’s artistic interpretations.

This paper aims to present, based on the Church’s current teaching on synodality, the attempt at synodality of the Catholic Church in Czechoslovakia, which was entitled The Decade of Moral and Spiritual Renewal of the Nation. The paper briefly analyses this little-known event based on contemporary testimonies and their expert processing. It begins by clarifying the concept of synodality to gain a deeper understanding of the theological significance of this task that God asks us to do. Then we present the main actors of the Decade of Moral and Spiritual Renewal of the Nation, its content, and a summary of its effects on walking together of the Church in Czechoslovakia in the still totalitarian atmosphere of the 1980s. At the same time, the paper attempts to compare this event with the current course of the Synod on synodality. The successes and failures of the Decade of the Spiritual Renewal of the Nation, as well as the catechetical work of the so-called underground Church in Slovakia, show that it is necessary to look at man and history not as the addressees of one’s agenda, but as those with whom one wishes to have a relationship characterised by mutuality and dialogue.

The paper is divided into two parts. The first part explains the concept of solidarity and fraternity on a theoretical level, especially in the light of Catholic social teaching. The second part analyzes the principles of solidarity and fraternity in Croatian society during the National Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. In addition to solving the national question under a specific aspect of brotherhood, this term was understood in the spirit of the communist ideology of brotherhood and unity of the Yugoslav peoples, and the ideology of solidarity was present predominantly in the form of self-governing socialism. The paper, therefore, shows how socialist Yugoslavia had many characteristics of a totalitarian system defined by communist ideology.

The Non Destructive Evaluation (NDE) is a fundamental process when high safety standards for the tested component are required. The evaluation may imply a combination of methods to achieve the highest Probability of Detection (POD) resulting in several data available which must be properly collected, processed, and stored for future reviews and for traceability reasons. All these requirements imply a sophisticated digital infrastructure and the usage of the most advanced Information Technology (IT) solutions to achieve computation speed, safe data processing and accessibility of the information. The Industry4.0 revolution is the result of the combination of digital technology to industrial processes for rethinking the performances in terms of automation, integration, crosslinking, availability and sharing of information. These principles can be applied in the NDE process as several products on the market are tested and monitored during the whole lifetime. The tracking of data, the secure data validation, and the need to avoid misuses and manipulations are new additional requirements for the NDE 4.0. Block chain technology, mainly known for crypto applications, is a promising technology for storing digital identity and test records offering traceability, safety and availability of the data. The present paper wants to present the Swiss Safety Center AG approach for a specific application case (retesting of gas cylinders according to ISO18119) where the guidelines and trends of NDE 4.0 have been successfully integrated in a fully automatic system, first in class for this application. The paper wants also to provides some insights about future trends and potential developments which may not be limited to this specific case but can be applied for other similar applications, e.g. in railways, manufacturing industry, automotive, aerospace and more in general in the NDE applications.

The present work is part of the AIFRI project (Artificial Intelligence For Rail Inspection), where we and our project partners train a neural network for defect detection and classification. Our goal at BAM is to generate artificial ultrasound and eddy current training data for the A.I. This paper has an exploratory nature, where we focus on the simulation of eddy current signals for head check cracks, one of the most important rail surface defects. The goal of this paper is twofold. On the one hand, we present our general simulation setup. This includes geometric models for head check cracks with features like branching and direction change, a model for the HC10 rail testing probe, and the configuration of the Faraday simulation software. On the other hand, we use the Faraday software to simulate eddy current testing signals with a strong focus on the influence of the damage depth on the signal, while differentiating between different crack geometries. Here, we observe an early saturation effect of the test signal at a damage depth of 2 mm (at a crack angle of 25◦ to the surface). That is about 2 mm earlier than we would expect from measurements at a crack angle of 90◦ . This behavior will be investigated further in a future paper. Finally, we interpolate the simulated signals in a two-step curve fitting process. With these interpolations we may generate eddy current test signals for any damage depth within the simulated range.

The objective of this paper is to present a study on the contribution of the superficial methods (Liquid Penetrants and Magnetic Testing (MT) liquids) in the NDT industry to the European Union and International targets of achieving climate neutrality. Bio water based liquid penetrants and MT liquids are available since some years in the NDT industry and are already widely used by medium and large companies worldwide, but their use has been limited in the past due to: higher costs, lower sustainability awareness, practical application process. Recently, the combination of higher oil and solvents prices internationally and an increased environmental consciousness by most Companies worldwide have turned the situation, so nowadays more and more Companies use safer Bio water-based products in their everyday work to achieve better operator and environment safety and lower overall costs. This paper will present effectively the advantages for the operator, the environment, and the Companies’ global costs of using Bio water based liquid penetrants and MT liquids in their NDT quality control process, through: a) A review of the updated applicable International Standards; b) An analysis of the safety and costs advantages of using Bio water based liquid penetrants and MT liquids compared to VOCs-containing alternatives; c) Real Companies case studies in the NDT industry; d) Examples of indications using Bio water based penetrants and MT liquids on metal pieces and on artificial defects as described in the International Standards.

In aviation, quality is paramount to determine an aircraft’s airworthiness and keep personnel and passengers safe. Non-destructive testing (NDT) methods are largely used throughout an aircraft’s lifetime, including raw material selection, manufacturing, assembly, and in-service maintenance. As a key component of aircraft, engines are governed under strictly scheduled maintenance programs where they are dismantled and thoroughly inspected. Part of this global inspection concerns the individual verification of fan blades to assess the absence of flaws, such as surface cracks. Due to the complex geometry of fan blades, established methods such as penetrant testing (PT) and magnetic particle inspection (MPI) have been successfully used in past decades to detect surface-breaking flaws in fan blades. However, these techniques are complex to deploy and do not permit results traceability. As an alternative, eddy current (EC) technologies proved to be a good candidate to discriminate flaws as small as 1 mm long. Combining both conventional and eddy current array technology provides valuable information on the integrity of the component. Powered with the development of dedicated signal processing methods, the proposed solution helped to increase signal-tonoise ratio, avoiding any false calls. Once this was achieved, a careful study of the probe’s deployment and compliance with the various changes of geometries—from the blade’s surface to its edges and root, helped ensure optimal crack detection. Finally, recent advances in robotics enabled an automated inspection strategy to perform 100% coverage with high reproducibility and repeatability. This greatly improved the probability of detection of sub-millimeter surface-breaking cracks. This paper describes the study performed to assess the capability of eddy current solutions (conventional and advanced) to replace traditional methods of inspecting titanium fan blades. It also shows how dedicated signal processing enables increased probability of detection. The proposed approach to provide full coverage of the complex geometry and the associated developments are detailed. Finally, the paper presents an integration of the complete inspection technique in an automated system.

Historically, the approach in the aerospace industry has been that the CMM (also known as Metrology) and NDT departments are often independent organizational units, resulting in potential synergies often being recognized late or not at all. Combining NDT with Metrology is the main use case described in this paper, additionally also combinations of complementary NDT modalities like for instance Thermography - Dry and Wet Ultrasonic inspection and much more are possible. This paper is describing the use case of a Multi-Modality Project realized at a TIER 1 Supplier in Germany, but also giving an overview about other possible implementations. Dry inspection alternatives to the classic wet ultrasonic inspection area also mentioned in this paper.

This paper covers the development and preliminary test for a technique to inspect tank floors from the outside of the tank using Electromagnetic Acoustic Transducers (EMAT). The goal is to reduce the high cost associated with inspections that require emptying the tank by providing an assessment of the tank floor next to the wall, which typically experiences the most corrosion and degradation. The paper explains the steps taken during the development of the technique, and the results on laboratory mock ups and field tests.

NDT 4.0 has become a buzz word in the world of NDT in recent years. At the same time, terms like open science, open access or open peer review cross our ways regularly and define present and future concepts to advance knowledge sharing in society. This article brings the concept of open science and NDT 4.0 together. While knowledge sharing as part of artificial intelligence and the internet of things are often in focus when talking about Industry 4.0 or NDT 4.0, this paper draws on the importance of knowledge sharing between humans as a substantial aspect of Industry 4.0, and more specifically NDT 4.0. Knowledge sharing between humans has especially become relevant with the introduction of the internet and the world wide web (www), but its importance cannot be disregarded in times where everybody is talking about technical developments, machine learning and artificial intelligence. On the contrary, sharing knowledge openly between humans remains central to advancing todays developments and innovation. The NDT community has had the benefit to share, create and exchange knowledge at an early stage of the internet through a unique platform that was established in 1996; NDT.net. After reviewing the concepts of open science and NDT 4.0, this paper illustrates how the NDT community has had the benefit of knowledge sharing since the early days of the internet through the establishment of NDT.net. This open access platform has been playing and continues to play a central role in advancing ideas of open science and NDT 4.0.

The general consensus is that dense cities are more sustainable. However, high urban density or compact urban form may affect the health of city dwellers, more particularly when compactness is not associated with the provision of mass transit systems. This paper analyses the correlation between urban density indicators and air pollution in Oran (Algeria), a city that suffers a lack of public transport. It assesses the density of green space needed to reduce airborne pollutants in cities. The paper also examines the impacts of exposure to air pollution on respiratory mortality using a quantitative health impact assessment methodology. Findings show that population density and building density strongly correlates with air pollution, due to motorized transport and other human activities (e.g. industries, residential heating or lacking green space). Results indicate that for population density greater than 12100 inhabitants/ha with associated values exceeding 100 for building density and green space density, air pollution levels become higher than 40µg/m3 , exceeding the recommended limit at international level by WHO. In addition, 588 annual premature deaths (95% CI: 529-643), i.e. 0,2% of the total population of the eighteen districts and 3,7% of the total number of deaths, were directly or indirectly related to NOx concentration. This paper concludes that despite the conventional wisdom that more dense cities are more sustainable and healthier, higher density urban areas tend to be associated with poor air quality when there are no mass transit systems.

There is an objection to divine timelessness which claims that timelessness shouldn’t be adopted since on this view evil is never “destroyed,” “vanquished,” “eradicated” or defeated. By contrast, some divine temporalists think that presentism is the key that allows evil to be destroyed/vanquished/eradicated/defeated. However, since presentism is often considered to be inconsistent with timelessness, it is thought that the presentist solution is not available for defenders of timelessness. In this paper I first show how divine timelessness is consistent with a presentist view of time and then how defenders of Presentist-Timelessness can adopt the presentist solution to the removal of evil. After this, I conclude the paper by showing that it’s far from clear that the presentist solution is successful and that unless one weakens what is meant by the destruction/vanquishing/eradication/defeat of evil, one can only make the presentist solution work by adopting a number of additional assumptions that many will find unattractive.

The paper provides information on the results of the R&D projects of the Research Centre Rez carried out between 2019 and 2022 for the Technological Agency of the Czech Republic as part of the "Perspective Diagnostic Methods" projects. In the first part of this paper, the development of the use of NEWS technology for the detection of cracks in pipelines is described. Results from development on half-pipe and pipe test pieces are presented, as well as results from measurements on the main circulation pipeline and connection pipes up to the first shut-off fitting at NPP Temelín. The method of certification and verification of the methodology is also described. The second part of this paper describes the development of the use of MMM technology to detect the state of tightening of bolts of flange joints. The development focused on determining the dependence of the tension in the bolt and the values obtained by the MMM method, determining the influence of the measurement location for the MMM method on the assessment of the condition of the flange joint, and determining the sensitivity of the method to unsatisfactory flange conditions such as undertightened bolts, overtightened bolts etc. is described. At the end, implementation plans are presented, either for specific applications at the NPP or in a subsequent R&D project.

The author of this paper seeks the original historical context as well as the oldest form, structure and concept of the biblical records of the covenants of Abraham and Isaac with the local ruler(s) as recorded in Gen 21:22–24, 25–33; 26:26–31. The patriarchs, who enjoy the status of foreign/sojourner/ resident in the land of the Philistine king, Abimelek, and their peaceful agreements are depicted in three biblical sources, which are very similar to each other in terms of structure and literary context. Those are compared with selected Hittite, Babylonian and Assyrian records of the royal covenants from the 2 millennium BC. The methodology adopted in the research allowed several important formal and substantive points of contact to be noted in the compared sources. Through this comparison, the paper confirms that Gen 21:22–24, 25 33; 26:26–31 reflects two ancient patterns of bilateral covenants between the monarch and an equal or subordinate social partner: royal grants and suzerain-vassal treaties. The paper also discusses the socio-cultural and legal spectrum of the Near Eastern royal procedures and how they were re-edited and adapted by the editors responsible for the current version of the biblical cycles about the patriarchs.

Insegnante appassionato, Cammelli può a buon diritto essere annoverato, seppur in una posizione non di primissimo rilievo, fra gli studiosi che hanno contribuito, nella prima metà del XX secolo, a riportare alla luce in Italia la letteratura e la storia bizantine. Uomo dai vastissimi interessi di studio, Cammelli vanta una bibliografia molto ampia fra articoli, contributi specialistici, monografie e produzione manualistica dedicata alla scuola. In particolare, alcuni suoi lavori a destinazione didattica hanno conosciuto una fortuna considerevole. La ricerca intende valutare il grado di penetrazione del lavoro di Cammelli nel panorama accademico e scolastico nazionale e internazionale. Il lavoro è stato condotto mediante la consultazione di fonti bibliografiche ed epistolari. Si propone anche una bibliografia essenziale, concepita come una silloge delle opere più significative dell’autore. This paper outlines an academic portrait of Giuseppe Cammelli (1890–1977), an Italian scholar and Byzantinist. He worked as a high school teacher in Florence and as a professor at the University of Pisa (1937–1943). Albeit in a not primary position, Cammelli deserves being regarded as one of the scholars who contributed to a new appreciation of Byzantine literature and history in Italy during the first half of the twentieth century. His research interests were extremely wide-ranging, as well as his scholarly output, which includes books, papers, and publications for schools. In particular, his didactic production was considerably successful. This study aims at evaluating the dissemination of Cammelli’s work in the academic and educational landscapes, in Italy and abroad. The article engages with Cammelli’s private papers as well as his published works. An essential bibliography is also provided.

This paper deals with Apollo and Dyonisian elements in dervish Ahmed Nuruddin's characterisation. This paper analyses the dervish Ahmed Nuruddin in light of Nietzche's understanding of Apollo and Dionysus deities in terms of their divine roots originating from ancient Greek mythology without any intention whatsoever to present Nietzche's entire philosophical system on the relationships between Dionysus, Greek tragedy, and the connections between art and nature with these principles. The dichotomy will be analysed on the example of the Serbian novel, Death and the Dervish written by Meša Selimović. The paper tackles the characterisation of the literary hero, protagonist Ahmed Nuruddin as a bridge between dervish-Apollo to Nuruddin-avenger, which is Dionysus focusing on revenge resulting in human and moral destruction caused by hatred, the opposite of Ahmed Nuruddin˙s neutrality, while performing the dervish duty. The avenger Nuruddin, the one surfacing after the murder of his sibling, will be considered Dionysus in light of an injustice inflicted on him by Harun's murder, a flywheel for his revenge. Special emphasis will be placed on Nuruddin's human defeat – moral decadence in the form of his transfiguration from a priest to a Machiavellian character. Taking Nietzche's understanding of Hellenic tragedy into consideration, this paper aims to prove Ahmed Nuruddin turning Apollo into Dionysus.

The topic of bilingualism has always been an object of interest in linguistic circles, especially today in the time of globalisation or the “third epoch”, when borders of states haven’t always implied the boundary of the use of a particular language. In addition to the fact that research on this phenomenon covers a wide range of hypotheses and perspectives from which bilingualism is analysed, it increasingly involves developing countries, multicultural and multilingual environments. Numerous scientists have investigated the process of first and second language acquisition, some have observed in which environments and under what conditions bilingualism occurs, and this group includes scientists who have done research on bilingual children in the school system whose attitudes will be stated in this paper. This work provides an overview of the basic conclusions from theoretical and empirical studies on the topic of bilingualism, through a review of research in which attention is drawn to the traditionally neglected or insufficiently explored extralinguistic factors and their influence on the development or obstruction of bilingualism. The aim is to come to a conclusion about the different competences of bilingual children and the conditions that affect the development of bilingualism in early childhood and in children of school age. Some of the definitions of bilingualism are primarily listed, then the functions of language as well as the relationship between the first and second languages, the influence of parents and culture on the early development of bilingualism are explained. In the final part of the paper, practical advice for helping bilingual children is given, based on a literature review on this topic. Therefore, we conclude that the article discusses current and scientifically relevant issues: types of bilingualism, as well as its socio-pedagogical implications.

Linguists around the world have been researching international English for a long time, forming three paradigms of thought and research – English as an International Language (EIL), World English (WE) and English as a Lingua Franca (ELF). The aim of this paper is to present a review of the research conducted so far regarding English in Serbia and, thus, to offer insight into the inner workings of Serbian English, all in the light of ELF research. Bearing in mind that research within the ELF paradigm framework is not carried out often in Serbia, all the studies presented in this paper view the Serbian English variety as learners’ language. The elimination of contrastive studies was taken as the basic criterion for literature selection, which made it possible to compare the Serbian linguists’ studies with the ELF paradigm framework. Studies within the scope of phonetics/phonology and pragmatics were found. As regards to phonetics and phonology, papers of only two authors fit in with the established criterion. The findings of their studies confirm that Serbian English speakers have acquired the phonetic features necessary for international communication, i.e. the ELF phonetic core. Nonetheless, it was not possible to compare Serbian English pragmatic studies with ELF research – ELF studies involve spoken corpora, while Serbian English studies encompass questionnaires and interviews. Therefore, there is much to be discovered about the Serbian variety of English. Conducting further research into Serbian English within the ELF paradigm would allow comparison with ELF standards and unveil those linguistic elements which students in Serbia need to acquire in order to participate in international communication more efficiently.

In this paper we focused on the transformation of the main character in the novel The Color Purple, Celie, through the letters she writes to God and her sister Nettie. We contrastively analysed the original text and its Serbian translation. In this paper we followed Celie’s path from an insecure and molested girl, to a confident and emancipated individual which can be observed in the development of her language and writing style. There are three types of letters within the novel: (a) letters written to God; (b) letters which introduce her transformation; (c) letters written to Celie’s sister Nettie. The insecurity of the protagonist is mirrored in her language which is a stylised version of African American English. The Serbian translation employed linguistic features that don’t belong to any particular dialect, but rather represent an approximation of the way undereducated people would speak. The beginning of the novel is characterised by short sentences, repetitive lexicon and the use of the prolonged underscore ______. In the second half of the novel the sentences become longer and the vocabulary richer. Going through the transformation from a victim of dire circumstances to a self-aware individual that accepts herself and her language, Celie represents a character of the Afro-American woman in specific historical circumstances. In addition to Celie, the transformation can be seen in other side characters, especially on the level of onomastics.

This paper presents the analysis results of syntactic and semantic features of constructions with the preposition po in The Woman from Sarajevo (Gospođica, 1945) and The Damned Yard (Prokleta avlija, 1954) by Ivo Andrić. The main goal of the research was to determine the meanings and functions of these constructions in the novels that form the corpus of the research, but also to try to expand and supplement, on the basis of selected examples, the previous syntactic and semantic analyses of the preposition po in our older and also more recent grammars and linguistic articles. By using both the theoretical framework of cognitive semantics and the theoretical foundations of more traditional approaches to the meaning of prepositions, 298 constructions (213 from The Woman from Sarajevo and 85 from The Damned Yard) were analysed, and it was concluded that the language of Andrić’s works, at least when it comes to constructions with the preposition po, is not different from the contemporary Serbian language. Namely, it was observed that there are more locative than accusative constructions with the preposition po, and that the most frequent are the spatial locative and the base/criterion locative. At the end of the paper, we pointed out the non-prepositional function of the word po.

Bearing in mind the enormous importance teaching materials have in the language classroom, the paper deals with the analysis of modern approaches to creating foreign language textbooks at the university level. Considering the influence of the English language as a world language in which almost all the latest research and achievements in the field of technical sciences and geology are published, this textbook example is thus based on English as the common language of the largest number of speakers. We believe, however, that it can be further translated into other languages, thus providing students with the opportunity to study the same material in two or more languages, with more success and less cognitive load. Also, it is of great importance that language textbooks go through such academic and practical adjustments that will replace the essential shortcomings of traditional teaching with useful and applicable educational models. Following such goals, the paper tries to: 1) present the importance of developing teaching materials through the principles of visual values, authenticity and scaffolding; 2) clarify and shed light on the essential shortcomings of traditional teaching materials by comparing ESP and CLIL methods, and 3) present practical suggestions for practicing and acquiring the language through three activities adapted to the stated principles.

Television is a dominant medium that can influence one’s attitude and social ideologies formation since it reflects sociolinguistic reality and maintains language ideologies and existing social stereotypes. For that reason, we can mention so-called female and male language patterns and their main characteristics, which are to a great extent associated with social power, i.e. the role that an individual has in his social community or community of practice. This paper aims to examine whether the Greek media and more specifically, the Greek TV series promote so-called male and female language patterns, as well as social stereotypes directed towards women. In this paper, we analysed the linguistic behaviour of the protagonists of the Greek series Mην αρχίζεις την μουρμούρα. Qualitative non-experimental research based on the analysis of linguistic behaviour at the level of the characters‘ lexical choice, Vaso and Charis showed that their choice of language patterns is proportional to their social or professional status. In addition, we noticed the presence of certain social stereotypes, while it is evident that the use of stereotypical-female language patterns is associated with a hierarchically lower social position.

This paper studies the morphological productivity of adjective-forming prefixes at the level of word-formation rules. The productivity at the aforementioned level is the union of the productivity at the level of word-formation types and morphological types. The aim of the paper is to offer pieces of information on the interaction of different concepts within different word-formation types together with the morphological aspect through different morphological types. We find 267 examples of adjectives and analyse 31 prefixes interacting with various simple or complex adjectives in the corpus comprised of news, literary, academic and TV registers. After analytic, descriptive and statistical methods, we conclude that they fall into 5 different conceptual categories, i.e., wordformation type clusters (Quality, Location, Quantity, Time and State). The majority of clusters show that the stem is determining the conceptual category while prefixes refine it. The highest productivity rates are recorded with such word-formation types. The only exceptions are Quantity and Time where the conceptual category depends on the prefixes and stems equally. The results from the morphological analyses show that most of the prefixes are inserting additional semantic pieces of information, usually recording the highest PR and not changing the conceptual category of the stem and appearing within one or multiple clusters, with exceptions for Quantity and Time.

Based on folk tales of Northern European nations, Arnold’s poems ‘The Forsaken Merman’ (1849) and ‘The Neckan’ (1853), both tell a story of human women who marry sea creatures, mermen, and replace their home on the land with the mermen’s underwater world. By crossing the boundaries between their worlds, they cause numerous problems, most significantly the tension resulting from their different religious beliefs. In ‘The Forsaken Merman’, Margaret, the merman’s wife, fearing that her soul will be damned because of her marriage to a pagan, decides to rejoin the human world on the most important Christian holiday, Easter. In ‘The Neckan’, in order to comfort his wife, the Neckan goes to the human world to find a priest who would be willing to baptise him, but he is rejected because he is a ‘monster’ who cannot be saved. The paper will examine the way in which Arnold’s poems reflect the fears of the Victorian era as well as his own anxieties. This will be accomplished by comparing the two opposite worlds of the poems – the human world of everyday activities, rules, laws, and expectations; and the mermen’s home, the mysterious, colourful, and peaceful world of sea-beasts. In addition, the paper will analyse the reversal of traditional gender roles and re-examine literary, cultural, and social stereotypes. The paper will also attempt to find a connection between the main topics of these poems and Arnold’s life and career of a poet and literary critic.

This paper approaches the notion of truth( fulness) within the written media discourse, namely the three B&H daily newspapers. Aimed at researching computeraccessible online articles published in the chosen three time frames, the paper focuses on narratives containing the keyphrase “Alan Šeranić” and the representation of the notions of values of trust and confidence found in extracts which contain both the chosen keyphrase and examples of news values. The results show that the attitude towards the researched keyphrase changes both in accordance with the time frames of its use and in accordance with the geographical area of the publication source.

This paper presents a study of guided wave tomography for corrosion monitoring under varying environmental conditions. Guided wave tomography can be computed in an ‘absolute’ mode thanks to an automatic calibration using solely the data of the current acquisition. This is interesting because no baseline is needed. In particular, this paper studies the capacity of absolute tomography algorithms to be robust to temperature fluctuations. Experimental validations of the method are presented and results on the method’s robustness to temperature variations are shown through acquisitions carried out in a climate chamber over a wide range of temperatures.

This paper revisits Walter Benjamin’s unpublished “Announcement of the Journal Angelus Novus,” one of relatively few texts Benjamin is known to have written in 1922, European modernism’s widely recognized annus mirabilis. The announcement followed numerous, transformative essays and fragments of 1921 and was written alongside his dissertation on The Concept of Criticism in German Romanticism, encompassing a pivotal moment in Benjamin’s philosophical maturation. Heralding the new, never realized journal, the announcement articulates what might be deemed “the task of the editor,” which it describes as a quest for “philosophical universality”. The Angelus Novus journal would proceed form the fact of modern social discontinuities toward the elaboration of universal philosophical truths through the criticism of literary works. This paper reconsiders Benjamin’s editorial ambitions as part of his individual philosophical development and within a broader context of “total modernism,” discussing the announcement’s continued relevance for our contemporary world.

Interest in dream and madness, conceived as the loss of a world shared with others, and the individual’s entry into a private world governed by a personal logic unrelated to the waking state and to common feeling, recurs in at least three of Kant’s works: Essay on the Diseases of the Head, (1764), Dreams of a Spirit-Seer (1766), and Anthropology from a Pragmatic Point of View (1798). Hegel too, from an early age, showed a strong fascination and a precocious interest in psychopathological matters (states of altered consciousness, prophetic dreams, somnambulism, catalepsy, witchcraft etc.) to which he devoted intriguing reflections in various works from different periods: from the Berne Ms Philosophy of Subjective Spirit (1794/95) to the Phenomenology (1807), from the Philosophical Propaedeutics (1808ff.) to the Encyclopedia of the Philosophical Sciences (18303). Starting from the remarks of the two philosophers, this paper aims to underline the conceptual links between their thought and that of some renowned psychologists and psychiatrists of the 1800s-1900s (Pinel, Janet, Adler, James, Binswanger, Freud et al.). On the other hand, the paper also seeks to show – within the framework of an idea of reason dating back to Heraclitus (about 544/483 B.C.) – some murky motifs, not always adequately emphasized in the past, found in the figurative and literary works of the late 1700s (e.g. Fuseli’s The Nightmare, Coleridge’s The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, and, in particular, plate Nr. 43 of the Caprichos by Goya, El sueño de la razón produce monstruos), where there emerges a «dark side» of psychic activity emblematically described as the cryptic relationship between dream and madness.

This paper investigates home videos made by Hojda Stojka, the son of Ceija Stojka (1933-2013), artist and survivor of Auschwitz, Ravensbrück, and Bergen-Belsen. Based on a close reading of significant video sequences, a narrative interview with the videographer, and Ceija Stojka’s publications and films, it analyses how the auto/biographical videos relate to the persecution of the parents’ generation. The paper focuses on the importance of spaces like kitchens, cars and stages, on the value assigned to auto/biographical audiovisual recordings, and the recontextualization and integration of photographs and television recordings into the family memory.

This paper analyzes the female philanthropy in Italy at the beginnings of the XX century, as a strategy of the Italian emancipation movement in the direction of “practical feminism”. The central part of the essay presents a concrete initiative, the cooperative of the Industrie Femminili Italiane (Italian Female Industries), and discusses its political relevance through some writings by Amelia Pincherle Rosselli, a very active member of the organization. Rosselli highlights: 1) the political significance of the enterprise, whose objective was not only the economic and social promotion of women, but also their active citizenship; 2) the enhancement of textile craftsmanship that underlies specific development model and quality of work; 3) the polyvalent meaning of lace, in the economic, social, aesthetic and symbolic realms; 4) the laboratory as a place where unprecedented relationships were experienced between women of different classes. In conclusions, the paper refers to recent researches that suggest a new methodological and historiographical approach, useful for framing the presence of feminist philanthropists and recognizing their particular contribution to the political history of the twentieth century.

The paper focuses on Norberto Bobbio’s book Mutamento politico e rivoluzione, published by Donzelli in 2021, which gathers the transcripts of his last course on political philosophy. More specifically, the paper is divided into two main sections. The first section concerns Bobbio’s remarks on how philosophers shifted from rejecting political change to legitimizing resistance against power. The second section regards Bobbio’s attempt to reconstruct the history of the idea of revolution, as well as its relationship to the cognate but rival concept of reform. Furthermore, the paper concludes by shedding some light on Bobbio’s own opinion on the reform-revolution alternative, which occupies center stage in nineteenth- and twentieth-century debate on socialism and the strategy for a socialist transformation of society.

The paper focuses on some issues related to mandatory vaccination, ranging among public health interests and individual rights in the light of the principle of solidarity. In this perspective, the public debate concerning Covid-19 mandatory vaccination policies is analysed based on the balance between the individual right to self-determination and the coexistent rights and needs of the whole society of health care. The purpose of this paper is to highlight how solidarity calls for responsibility towards the others and in particular the vulnerable people, who are mostly exposed to the harmful effects of contagion.

Priests and their functions in Ptolemaic Egypt in light of the archive of the temple in Soknopaiou Nesos): Little is known about priests and how temples functioned in Ptolemaic Egypt. This paper provides an insight into the organisation and hierarchy of temples under the Ptolemies. The main aim of this paper is to provide an overview of the titles and functions of temple personnel by analysing documents from the archive of the temple of Soknopaios and Isis Nepherses in the village of Soknopaiou Nesos (Dimeh).

This paper presents the blessed Anton Martin Slomšek as a man who lived a virtuous life to an above-average degree. In addition to a general view of Slomšek’s life from the perspective of virtue, the author offers in the main part of the paper a concrete presentation of the realization of the theological virtues of faith, hope and charity in his life. He additionally reveals the extraordinary influence of Slomšek’s personality as a kind of “radiance” of faith, hope and charity around him; or, as we might say in modern terms, that he was an extraordinarily “resonant” personality. Slomšek’s extraordinary pastoral zeal was not based on theoretical teaching alone but was rooted in a personally realized life of infused virtues, which shaped him into an extremely harmonious and positive personality.

The aim of this paper is to present the changes in the perception of the Archbishop of Can-terbury and Catholic saint Thomas Becket in England during the reign of the Tudor dynasty. The author’s starting point is the intellectual currents that emerged in England in the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries that sought to challenge Catholic traditions. The author argues that in the long run they laid the foundations for a systemic struggle in the 1630s and 1640s against the cult of Thomas Becket as a symbol of Catholic England. The paper uses printed sources by such authors as Erasmus of Rotterdam, Mathew Parker, John Foxe, Francis Go-dwin, royal documents from the Reformation era in England as well as articles and studies by foreign authors. The paper concludes that despite the measures taken, the reformers never succeeded in removing Thomas Becket from the religious landscape of England.

he goal of this paper is to better comprehend the importance of ethical behavior related to gender and religion in the Romanian accounting profession. In this regard we started by reviewing the scientific papers approaching the ethics topic of research. Then we conducted an empirical study that analyses students’ behavior when dealing with ethics in accounting field, having as main objective the assessment of the students’ perceptions regarding the importance of the ethical behavior, as potential or current employees in the field of accounting. The empirical research was carried out between May 2022 and June 2022, and the research method used was the survey, the instrument used being the questionnaire. This has been fulfilled by 100 master students in the accounting field from the Faculties of Economics, within the University of Oradea as well as the University of Arad. This paper is going to validate the different importance given to ethical behavior, by accounting professionals in Romania depending on gender. The research questions that this study aims to answer are: Does the accountants’ gender influence the ethical behavior of the accounting profession? And Does the accountants’ religious background influence their sense of ethics? Results obtained document a different level of given significance to ethical behavior depending on gender, but not on religious background. A significant part of those surveyed considers that under pressure or salary motivation from the management of the entity, they could decide to change an accounting policy that could affect the true image of the company.
