- Abstract
Subcutaneous fat necrosis of the newborn is a rare disorder, characterized by a self-limited panniculitis, which generally occurs in term or post term neonates in the first weeks of life. Often perinatal risk factors for its development have been identified, such as hipoxaemia, hypothermia, meconium aspiration, gestational diabetes. Complications are rare but it could be severe, such as hypercalcemia. The clinical case of a newborn who presented subcutaneous fat necrosis at the Roberto Gilbert Elizalde Hospital is presented . The diagnosis was made based on the clinical and histopathological study. The patient evolved favorably with regression of the lesions without complications. Conclusions: This case has clinical characteristics compatible with subcutaneous fat necrosis of the newborn. Is crutial the knowledge to avoid complication and unnecessary approach.
