- Abstract
This publication in English and French versions describes the activities of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) for 1995; particularly activities in the areas of public policy and advocacy, member services, and contract management. The section on public policy and advocacy describes how deficit reduction and national unity issues effectively monopolized the federal agenda. This section describes the 1995 budget, support for university research, collapse of a social policy review process, work on student assistance, 1996 pre-budget consultations, copyright legislation, international issues, academic mobility, competition for international development contracts, and other advocacy initiatives. A section on member services describes how AUCC provides information, advice and perspective on key issues, and a venue where members can meet. Among the issues discussed here are budget cutbacks, academic freedom, international cooperation, enrollment, governance and bargaining, fees for international students, performance indicators, scholarly communication, and internationalization. A final section on contract management describes how AUCC manages more than 150 institutional linkage, scholarship, and exchange programs. This section also details the status of international links with universities in China, Tunisia and Morocco and international scholarships and academic exchange programs with French-speaking nations, the Ukraine, and Latin America. Includes a detailed list of AUCC directors, and committee and advisory group members. (JB)
