Une analyse des besoins langagiers par triangulation des sources a été effectuée dans le contexte de l’IUT (Institut Universitaire de Technologie) et de l’entreprise. Cet article concerne la variation de la perception des besoins langagiers d’étudiants en IUT selon trois sources : apprenants, enseignants et techniciens employés en entreprise. Alors que le manque de vocabulaire, général ou de spécialité, apparaît comme le manque principal reconnu par les apprenants, les enseignants identifient les manques de bases grammaticales ainsi que les problèmes phonétiques et phonologiques comme majeurs en première année d’IUT. Les techniciens participant à l’enquête, anciens étudiants d’IUT, soulignent eux aussi les problèmes langagiers qu’ils considèrent toujours présents dans le monde de l’entreprise. La perception des manques langagiers, tels qu’ils apparaissent dans cette étude, varie selon les sources. Il conviendrait donc d’alerter les apprenants sur le décalage entre leurs perceptions concernant leurs besoins langagiers et ceux perçus par les enseignants d’IUT et par les techniciens. This article concerns the variations in the perceptions of the language needs of French technology students in French University Institutes of Technology (IUTs), as seen from three sources: the students, their lecturers and the technicians employed in industry. An analysis of language needs was undertaken using a triangulation of sources in the academic context as well as in industrial companies. While the lack of vocabulary, either general or for specific purposes, appeared as the main gap acknowledged by the students, the teachers identified lacks in basic grammar as well as phonetic and phonological problems as the major issues for first year IUT students. The technicians taking part in the survey were former IUT students and emphasized the language problems they still consider present in their working lives. The study showed that the perceptions of language shortcomings varied according to the sources. Students should therefore be warned of the gap between the perceptions of their own language needs and those perceived by the IUT teachers and the technicians.
