In the short story "The Sacrificial Egg", Chinua Achebe describes the Igbo pendulum system of maintenance of health and production of needs of African traditional societies: all creative forces and excesses that upset the balance of social and economic mastery are contradicted by forces that restore it. This return to reasonable norms is not to be seen as a conservative reaction and a rejection of the future. Chinua Achebe describes individuals and a society whose attitudes move simultaneously towards the protection of the conditions which provide health and satisfaction of basic human needs. These features should be instrumental in the creation of a self-reliant independent and decolonized society. Achebe’s appeal to tradition is creative and it reveals a mastery of public health, environment, society, economy and culture which has yet to be found in our global world., Dans sa nouvelle intitulée « L'oeuf sacrificiel », Chinua Achebe décrit la dualité igbo qui préserve santé et satisfaction des besoins dans les sociétés traditionnelles africaines : les forces créatives en excès qui bousculent cet équilibre sont contrebalancées par d'autres forces qui restaurent cet équilibre. Ce retour aux normes n'est ni conservateur ni dépourvu de puissance novatrice. Achebe campe des personnages et une société qui oeuvrent simultanément à la protection des conditions favorables à la santé et à une production maîtrisée. Cette insistance de l'auteur vise à l'invention d'un avenir fondé sur l'autosuffisance et l'indépendance d'une société décolonisée fidèle à son continuum culturel. Son recours aux traditions est créatif et s'inscrit dans une exigence de maîtrise humaine de la santé, de l'environnement, de la production et de la culture. C'est un équilibre que nous pouvons trouver enviable.

Synopsis Each creator transgresses norms and undoes boundaries. If human action is by definition creative, the soaring-up towards the height of creativity remains, however, a relatively rare phenomenon. Up to now, only few studies have examined in interrelationship the different levels of creative experience. Through the anthropological lens used here -one particularly suited to the cross-cultural approach required by this research focus-it was possible to bring together the words and views of experts and masters who have devoted their entire lives to the creative state and process. Driven more by the quest for meaning than by mere analytical exposition, this study aims at an understanding of the depths (as opposed to the simple surface layers) of creative experience. In a fusion between researcher and researched, this study has tested its "subject matter" in a way leading its author to test himself-as-(subject)-matter. As the writing unfolded, this doctoral thesis itself became an experience of the creative process, one mirroring the model of creation highlighted here. Approximately twenty non-directive interviews were conducted for this study. The conceptual categories derived from these are examined for the qualitative insights they offer. Based on these categories and as a stepping-stone towards broader theorisation, the present study develops a model of the creative state and process. This study contradicts the often-alleged radical opposition between Chinese and Western thought: its findings instead reveal a pattern of creative action common to China and the West. Like the art of Chinese calligraphy, taijiquan reveals itself a valuable doorway to uncovering this shared pattern. Precisely through its focus on taijiquan, this study hopes to contribute to the undoing of the myth of alterity. This thesis foregrounds that fundamentally, all genuine form of creation leads to a profound transformation/refashioning of the creating individual. However, this claim is made without reductionism: though all experienced creative beings master the art of entering and abiding in the creative state, a part of it remains mysterious and elusive. Thus, beyond recurring and converging patterns, each creative path also remains individually unique in the end.; Résumé Tout créateur est un transgresseur de normes, un destructeur de frontières. Si l'agir humain est par nature créatif, l'envol vers les cieux de la création est un phénomène relativement rare. A ce jour, peu de recherches ont mis en relation les différents niveaux de l'expérience créative. L'approche anthropologique, particulièrement adaptée à la transversalité réclamée par le thème de la recherche, a permis de recueillir la parole d'experts et de maîtres vouant leur vie entière à la création. Motivé par la quête de sens, plus que par la recherche d'explications, nous avons adopté une approche compréhensive. Faisant corps avec nos recherches, en éprouvant la matière, nous avons été éprouvé dans notre matière. La thèse est ainsi devenue, au fil de l'écriture, une expérience créative, répondant au modèle mis en évidence. L'extraction de catégories issues d'une vingtaine d'entretiens non directifs, analysés de manière qualitative, a permis d'ébaucher une modélisation, prélude à un essai de théorisation. Contredisant les nombreuses affirmations d'une pensée chinoise aux antipodes d'une pensée occidentale, nous avons constaté un schéma commun de l'agir créatif en Chine et en Occident. A l'instar de l'art chinois de l'écriture, le taijiquan s'est révélé être une voie y menant. Nous apportons ainsi notre contribution au dépassement du mythe de l'altérité. Nous avons remarqué que toute création véritable amène une transformation profonde/recréation de son auteur. Bien que les créatifs expérimentés maîtrisent l'entrée et le maintien dans l'état créatif, il subsiste toujours une part de mystère et d'inexpliqué. Au-delà des récurrences et concordances, chaque cheminement s'avère unique.

Antonin Artaud et Jean Genet ont respectivement connu l’enfermement asilaire et carcéral. Ils conçoivent tous les deux l’écriture comme le théâtre, sur le même plan que la vie, et partagent en outre la même conviction que la littérature, comme toute forme d’art, peut quelque chose pour nous. Malgré leurs nombreux points de contact biographiques, poétiques et éthiques, leurs œuvres n’ont jamais fait l’objet d’un rapprochement exclusif, une étonnante lacune que l’introduction substantielle de cette étude se donne pour tâche d’éclairer. En fait, si les œuvres d’Artaud et de Genet sont souvent comparées, c’est invariablement de façon limitée : brièvement, par le biais d’un tiers auteur et au plan du théâtre. Or toute leur écriture est théâtrale : c’est la prémisse sur laquelle se base ce travail qui constitue, donc, la première étude comparative approfondie de leurs œuvres. Dans un premier temps, nous étudions la conception du théâtre d’Artaud et de Genet dans la perspective de la tragédie qu’ils privilégient, parce qu’ils estiment primordiale la reprise vivante de l’œuvre par chacun de nous. En fait, nous nous intéressons à Genet et Artaud aussi bien en tant qu’écrivains que lecteurs, en analysant la manière singulière dont ils puisent l’un et l’autre de grandes figures dans les textes de la mythologie, de la littérature et de l’histoire pour les faire intervenir, indifféremment de leur provenance, dans leur propre texte. Pour démontrer ce travail de "reconfiguration" tout à la fois biographique, esthétique et éthique chez Artaud et Genet, nous analysons leur traitement de la figure tragique par excellence d’Antigone, dans "Antigone chez les Français" et "Journal du voleur". Dans un second temps, nous examinons comment Artaud et Genet s’en prennent à la dialectique du jugement qui préside à la lecture univoque qu’ils récusent : d’une part, par la conjuration, dans les textes qu’ils rédigent en 1948 pour une même série radiophonique, "Pour en finir avec le jugement de dieu" et "L’Enfant criminel" (tous deux censurés) et, d’autre part, par la révélation, en pratiquant ce que nous appelons une écriture de l’évanouissement – qui n’a rien de sublime, qui ne conserve en fait de la relève hégélienne que la structure du coup de théâtre, à savoir l’interruption qu’elle introduit dans la délibération de la conscience. Nous analysons alors les commentaires de dessins d’Artaud et les nombreuses scènes d’évanouissement dans l’œuvre de Genet. Dans un troisième temps, nous suggérons d’approcher de manière éthique les troublants termes de "cruauté" et de "trahison" qu’Artaud et Genet nous ont légués. Plus que des notions, celles-ci, avançons-nous, sont des méthodes visant l’acquisition d’un nouveau mode de lecture. Par l’entremise de ces concepts anti-conceptuels, Artaud et Genet nous invitent en fait à vivre comme ils écrivent et lisent : à "voire" la réalité. Pour le démontrer, nous proposons une micro-lecture du "Théâtre et son double" d’Artaud au regard de "La Sentence" de Genet, texte dont la publication toute récente vient confirmer la pertinence du rapprochement que nous établissons dans cette étude., Antonin Artaud and Jean Genet experienced confinement in an asylum and a prison respectively. They both also conceived of writing as theatre, on the same level of tragedy as life, and shared the same conviction that literature, like all forms of art, has the power to do something for us. Despite their many points of contact in terms of biography, poetics, and ethics, their works have never been the object of an exclusive comparative study, a surprising omission that the substantial introduction of this study sets out to elucidate. In fact, if the works of Artaud and Genet are often compared, it is inevitably in a limited fashion: briefly, via a third author, and in terms of the theatre. Yet all their writing is theatrical: it is the premise on which this, the first full-length comparative study of their works, is based. Firstly, I study Artaud and Genet’s conception of theatre from the perspective of the tragic which they both privilege, because above all they value the reanimation of their work performed by the reader. In fact, I engage with Genet and Artaud as both writers and readers, analysing the singular way in which each takes great figures from mythology, literature, and history, in order to introduce them, irrespective of their provenance, into their own works. To demonstrate this work of "reconfiguration" in Artaud and Genet, which is at once biographical, aesthetic, and ethical, I analyse their treatment of Antigone, in "Antigone chez les Français" and "Journal du voleur". Secondly, I examine how Artaud and Genet defy the dialectic of judgement ruling the univocal reading which they oppose. In part, I focus on their defiance in the texts that they composed in 1948 for the same radio broadcast, "Pour en finir avec le jugement de dieu" and "L’Enfant criminel" (both of which were censored). And in part I focus on the defiance they practice by way of a revelation that I call a writing of fainting—which has nothing of the sublime in it, which in fact only retains the structure of the interruption from the Hegelian Aufhebung, that is to say the coup de theatre that it introduces in the deliberation of consciousness. I further analyse the commentaries of Artaud on his drawings and numerous scenes of fainting in Genet’s works. Thirdly, I put forward an ethical way of approaching the troubling terms "cruelty" and "treason" that Artaud and Genet have bequeathed us. More than being notions, I propose, these are methods aiming towards a new mode of reading. By the intervention of these anti-conceptual concepts Artaud and Genet invite us to live in the same way they write and read, that is to say in the same way they "see" the multiplicities of reality. Over the last few years university criticism has taken a greater interest in the libertine novel. Yet, looked at from the point of view of woman and feminine, taking into account a large set of works – from French Regency to the first years of the nineteenth century – provides a new vision of both the libertine novel and the feminine question. The purpose of this thesis is therefore to envisage these two poles of understanding of Enlightenment thought and imaginary in their so rich but too little revealed until now mutual interaction. The libertine novel provides indeed its own answer to a question that obsessed the century in which it was born and evolved: the woman. The imageries, myths and fantasies revolving around feminine and femininity are also the origin of the basic feminine ambiguity in these texts. They are actually asserting themselves in both their intentions to liberate and their temptations to normalize. A thorough analysis of mastery and its stakes that are in the heart of relations between the two sexes and therefore the opposition masculine/feminine point out that this ambiguity, always wavering between liberation and subjection, is to interpret as a dynamic likely to construct a fantastical staging of woman and feminine.; Le roman libertin fait l'objet, depuis quelques années, d'un regain d'intérêt de la part de la critique universitaire. Pourtant, l'envisager sous l'angle de la femme et du féminin dans un corpus large, qui recouvre la période courant de la Régence aux premières années du XIXe siècle, permet de jeter un regard nouveau tout à la fois sur ce genre et sur le féminin. Il s'agit de faire se rejoindre ces deux pôles de compréhension de l'imaginaire et de la pensée des Lumières jusqu'ici trop peu mis en évidence dans leur interaction réciproque pourtant très riche. Le roman libertin apporte en effet sa propre réponse, fondée largement sur le corps et sur le désir, à une question qui obséda le siècle qui l'a vu naître et avec lequel il a évolué, celle de la femme. Les imageries, mythes et fantasmes qui gravitent autour du féminin et de la féminité sont ainsi à l'origine de l'ambiguïté féminine fondamentale qui se dégage de la lecture de ces textes puisqu'ils s'affirment tout à la fois dans leurs intentions libératrices et dans leurs tentations normalisatrices. Toujours hésitant entre libération et assujettissement, cette ambiguïté, comme le montre une analyse approfondie de la maîtrise et de ses enjeux qui sont au cœur des rapports entre les sexes et donc de l'opposition féminin/masculin, se lit alors comme une dynamique propre à la mise en scène fantasmatique de la femme et du féminin.
