In this report, we present two research topics which emphasize the relationship between nonlinear optics and microstructured organic materials. The first part is dedicated to the study of the quadratic nonlinear optical properties of a new range of materials: organic nanocrystals embedded in sol-gel films. Nanocrystals are obtained from well-known nonlinear optical molecules. However, as second order nonlinear processes require a non-centrosymmetric structure, we have studied the possibility to orient the nanocrystals and create a polar order using electric-field poling. The poling process was monitored using second-harmonic generation. This experimental technique brought a better understanding of the orientation and relaxation mechanism in this material, which is essential in trying to improve the efficiency and stability of its nonlinear properties. In the second part of this work, a third-order nonlinear process (two-photon absorption) was employed to initiate polymerization reactions and fabricate complex structures in three-dimension with a submicron resolution. Using a molecular engineering approach, new photoinitiators with enhanced two-photon absorption cross-sections have been designed and studied in terms of their two-photon absorption and initiation efficiency. We show that microfabrication experiments could be achieved with low-cost and low-power lasers using our photoinitiators. A kinetic model is proposed to relate the progression of the polymerization process to the material and irradiation characteristics. These considerations lead to better understanding and control over the spatial resolution of the polymerized structures., Ce travail porte sur deux sujets distincts qui illustrent les relations entre l'optique non linéaire et les matériaux organiques (en particulier ceux qui comportent des structures de taille micrométrique). Dans une première partie, nous nous intéressons aux propriétés optiques quadratiques de matériaux novateurs: des couches minces sol-gel incluant des nanocristaux organiques. Pour que ce type de matériau donne lieu à des processus non-linéaires quadratiques, un ordre non centrosymétrique macroscopique doit être créé en son sein. C'est pourquoi nous avons étudié la possibilité d'orienter ces nanocristaux en appliquant un champ électrique. À l'aide du signal de second-harmonique généré, nous pouvons suivre le processus de polarisation. Cela a permis de dégager les phénomènes qui interviennent dans la création et la relaxation de l'ordre polaire et de mettre en évidence les paramètres du matériau qui limitent l'efficacité et la stabilité de la réponse non-linéaire obtenue. Dans la deuxième partie, nous mettons à profit un processus non-linéaire du 3\ieme ordre, l'absorption à deux photons, pour fabriquer par polymérisation des objets tridimensionnels avec une résolution submicronique. Nous montrons qu'une approche d'ingénierie moléculaire des photoinitiateurs permet d'améliorer l'efficacité de ce processus, ce qui rend l'utilisation de lasers de puissance crête modérée envisageable pour la microfabrication. Une analyse de la cinétique de la polymérisation nous éclaire sur le rôle des caractéristiques de la résine (photoinitiateur et monomère) et des conditions d'irradiation (intensité lumineuse et temps d'exposition) sur la progression des réactions de polymérisation et la résolution spatiale des structures fabriquées.
