This study examines the professional situation of French language graduates in Nigeria. It explores, among other things, the main sectors providing employment to these graduates, the challenges they face in the process of integration and their perceptions of the adequacy between the training provided in departments of French across Nigerian Universities and the needs of an Anglophone labour market. The data of the study was collected through a questionnaire from 143 respondents who graduated between 2007 and 2017. The results of the study show that there is a low penetration of French language graduates into the business world. These graduates, given the training received, seem more likely to find work in education. They unanimously support a reform of the French program in order to widen the range of opportunities they can have access to in the labour market.

INTRODUCTION: The most recently discovered severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-COV-2) that causes COVID-19, subjected the entire world in turmoil health-wise and economically. With higher burden of malaria in Nigeria and other Sub-Saharan African countries coupled with fragile healthcare system and delivery, these may pose a threat in the diagnosis and management of COVID-19 patients co-infected with malaria. Free radicals have been implicated in the progression and pathogenesis of malaria and COVID-19 through Fenton’s reaction and cytokine storm respectively. METHODS: the current research comprises of seventy-four (74) participants; 20 apparently healthy controls and 54 COVID-19 patients (20 among which were co-infected with malaria). Serum levels of 8-iso PGF2α and Alphatocopherol were determined among the study participants using ELISA technique and colorimetric assay, respectively. RESULTS: results revealed statistically significant elevation of 8-iso PGF2α in COVID-19 patients co-infected with malaria compared to COVID-19 patients only, and this may be due to increase production of free radicals. Furthermore, a significant decrease of Alphatocopherol was observed in COVID-19 co-infected with malaria compared to COVID-19 patients due to increase utilization of antioxidants in counterbalancing the negative effect of free radicals generated. CONCLUSION: conclusively, SARS-COV-2 patients co-infected with malaria might be predisposed to oxidative stress and low Alphatocopherol. The increase in oxidative stress is proportional to malaria parasite density and inversely related to Alphatocopherol levels. This implies that oxidative stress is notably higher and such patients may have a severer form of the COVID-19. Increased 8-iso-PGF2α in co-infection and decreased alphatocopherol levels can reflect the severity and adverse outcomes compared to COVID-19 naïve because of their tremendous involvement in the pathogenesis and progression of diseases.

A pesquisa objetiva identificar, nos periódicos científicos com maior Qualis (estratos A1 e A2), a produção científica brasileira sobre a temática da Organização e Representação da Informação publicada na área da Ciência da Informação no período de 2007 a 2016 (últimos 10 anos). Metodologicamente, a coleta e a análise dos dados foram basiladas por meio de um estudo bibliométrico. Como resultados, foi percebido que, dentre os periódicos nacionais e internacionais, temos uma produção científica “doméstica”. Percebeu-se que as principais revistas que publicam pesquisas no campo da temática “Organização e Representação da Informação”, foram: a) Informação & Informação (UEL); b) Encontros Bibli (UFSC); e c) Transinformação (PUC-Campinas). A pesquisa mostra ainda que os autores mais representativos quantitativamente, em número de publicações, escrevem em sua maioria em colaboração.

INTRODUCTION: sub-optimal adherence constitutes a significant impediment to the management of severe mental illnesses (SMIs) as it negatively impacts on the course of the illness and the treatment outcome. In this study, the levels of adherence, prevalence and the predictors of sub-optimal adherence were assessed in a sub-Saharan African setting. METHODS: three hundred and seventy (370) respondents with diagnoses of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or severe depression were randomly enrolled and interviewed at the out-patient department of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Maiduguri in northeastern Nigeria. An anonymous sociodemographic questionnaire and a clinical proforma designed by the authors, Oslo social support scale and the 8-item Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8) were used for data collection. RESULTS: the prevalence of sub-optimal adherence was 55.7%. The independent predictors of sub-optimal adherence were; seeking for traditional/ spiritual treatment (Odds Ratio (O.R.) = 6.523, 95% C.I. = 3.773 - 11.279, P = 0.001), male gender (O.R. = 3.307, 95% C.I. = 1.907 - 5.737, P = 0.001), low levels of insight (O.R. = 1.753, 95 C.I. = 1.220 - 2.519, P = 0.002), and low social support levels (O.R. = 1.528, 95% C.I. = 1.097 - 2.129, P = 0.012). CONCLUSION: based on the outcome of the study, we recommend the development of psycho-educational programmes on adherence and the active involvement of the relations and significant others in the management of patients with SMIs in sub-Saharan Africa.
