Abstract Background The genetic mechanisms that underlie phenotypic differentiation in breeding animals have important implications in evolutionary biology and agriculture. However, the contribution of cis-regulatory variants to pig phenotypes is poorly understood. Therefore, our aim was to elucidate the molecular mechanisms by which non-coding variants cause phenotypic differences in pigs by combining evolutionary biology analyses and functional genomics. Results We obtained a high-resolution phased chromosome-scale reference genome with a contig N50 of 18.03 Mb for the Luchuan pig breed (a representative eastern breed) and profiled potential selective sweeps in eastern and western pigs by resequencing the genomes of 234 pigs. Multi-tissue transcriptome and chromatin accessibility analyses of these regions suggest that tissue-specific selection pressure is mediated by promoters and distal cis-regulatory elements. Promoter variants that are associated with increased expression of the lysozyme (LYZ) gene in the small intestine might enhance the immunity of the gastrointestinal tract and roughage tolerance in pigs. In skeletal muscle, an enhancer-modulating single-nucleotide polymorphism that is associated with up-regulation of the expression of the troponin C1, slow skeletal and cardiac type (TNNC1) gene might increase the proportion of slow muscle fibers and affect meat quality. Conclusions Our work sheds light on the molecular mechanisms by which non-coding variants shape phenotypic differences in pigs and provides valuable resources and novel perspectives to dissect the role of gene regulatory evolution in animal domestication and breeding.

Hydrogen internal combustion engines (H2-ICEs) have advantages such as clean combustion and zero carbon emissions, and have become one of the important technical routes for decarbonization in the internal combustion engine industry. In this paper, several key factors affecting the performance and emissions of hydrogen internal combustion engines, such as ignition timing, excess air coefficient, and hydrogen injection timing, were systematically studied on a spark ignition multi-point injection (MPI) hydrogen internal combustion engine bench. The experimental results indicate that the ignition timing controls the combustion phase of hydrogen. Moderate early ignition can improve the brake thermal efficiency (BTE) while having little impact on the NOX emissions. Excess air coefficient(λ) can significantly affect the performance and emissions of H2-ICE. Along with the increase of the λ, the NOX emissions first increases and then continues to decline. When the λ reaching 2.1 or above, near zero emissions of NOX can be achieved. The advance of hydrogen injection timing will slightly increase the peak of cylinder pressure and instantaneous heat release rate. However, overall, the impact of hydrogen injection timing on BTE and NOX emissions is not significant on MPI H2-ICE.

Environmental sciences ,GE1-350 - Abstract
5-Nitraminotetrazole (5-NAT) is a high-energy and green explosive material that has attracted extensive attention due to its short synthesis steps and decomposition products consisting mainly of nitrogen and water. However, the presence of a crystal water molecule in the current crystal structure of 5-nitroaminotetrazole significantly affects its detonation performance and mechanical sensitivity. In this study, we report the successful synthesis of an anhydrous crystal form of 5-NAT through slow volatilization of an ethyl acetate solution under dry conditions. The anhydrous crystal form of 5-NAT exhibited increased density and detonation velocity compared to the monohydrate crystal form. Furthermore, quantum chemical analysis showed that the anhydrous crystal form exhibited increased sensitivity to external force stimulation due to stronger oxygen-oxygen and nitrogen-oxygen repulsion. In conclusion, the anhydrous crystal form of 5-NAT shows promise as a high-energy and green primary explosive.

This paper examines the effect of tax cuts policy on firm survival risk. We analyze a panel data of China’s listed companies over the period 20082021 based on two different techniques: Kaplan-Meier survival estimator and the Cox proportional hazards model. Our findings reveal that the tax cuts policy has positive and significant effect on improving firms’ survival probabilities. Moreover, compared with the income tax cuts, the value-added tax cuts play a more effective role on improving firms’ survival probability. By dividing firm locations into different regions, we also find that the tax cuts policy exerts a positive influence on firms’ survival probabilities in eastern region, while the positive effect in the central and western regions is relatively weaker. From the perspective of profitability heterogeneity, the results show that the beneficial effect from tax cuts policy on firm survival is more pronounced for firms with weaker profitability.

Environmental sciences ,GE1-350 - Abstract
Flash drought is a type of drought that develops rapidly, lasting for a short period of time, and is highly destructive. During its rapid intensification stage, it is usually accompanied by high temperature, high evapotranspiration, soil moisture decline, and precipitation deficit, thus causing significant damage to ecosystems and human society. Many attempts have been made to distinguish the phenomenon of flash drought from drought and to better understand the mechanisms of its generation. Since 2013, researchers have continued to refine and clarify the definition of flash drought in response to its characteristics, and have made many efforts to propose appropriate identification methods, classify the phenomenon of flash drought, identify the mechanism of flash drought generation, and improve the early warning capability of flash drought disasters. Despite this, researchers still do not have a clear and consistent system for identifying and classifying flash drought emergencies. In addition, some researchers have explored the spatial dynamics of flash drought propagation, hoping to better understand the spatial and temporal characteristics of flash drought.

Environmental sciences ,GE1-350 - Abstract
In this study, fifteen participants were exposed in an enclosed environmental chamber to investigate the effects of elevated carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration on their cognitive abilities. Three CO2 conditions (1500 ppm, 3500 ppm, and 5000 ppm) were achieved by constant air supply and additional ultra-pure CO2. All participants received the same exposure under each condition, during which they performed six cognitive tests evaluating human perception, attention, short-term working memory, risky decision making, and executive ability. During each exposure condition, the reaction time (RT) test, speed perception test, visual search (VS), 2-back test, balloon analogue risk test (BART), and Stroop test were successively conducted with rest intervals of approximately 13min. The results showed that there was no statistically-significant difference in the performance of RT tests, speed perception test, and 2-back test. This indicated that the elevated CO2 concentration below 5000 ppm did not affect the participants’ perception and short-term working memory. However, significant increase of response time was observed in the VS test, BART, and Stroop test at 5000 ppm compared with lower exposure concentrations. The slower reaction reflected the negative effects of elevated CO2 concentration on human visual attention, risky decision making, and executive ability. The findings suggest that work performance could be negatively affected by the exposure to CO2 at the current occupational concentration limit.

Cameron Highlands was chosen as study area (longitude from 101°21’ to 101°30’ and latitude from 4°19’ to 4°37’) for climate downscaling. This paper presents the work of downscaling techniques and regional climate model (RCM) development. The second-generation Canadian Earth System Model (CanESM2) based on the representative concentration pathways (RCP) 4.5 and 8.5 was applied to develop the local climate model for the period 2020-2100. The climatic parameters chosen were temperature (maximum and minimum) and rainfall. The simulated RCMs are then analysed using statistical reliability including Pearson correlation coefficient, linear regression, root mean square error (RMSE) and probability density function (PDF). The result showed that the simulated maximum, minimum temperature, and rainfall are most likely to follow RCP 8.5 scenario. Precipitation threshold for occurrence of flood event was estimated using intensity duration frequency (IDF) relationship generated by maximum precipitation. Return period of two years and four hours rainfall duration is used for threshold estimation as the rainfall is convective. The daily rainfall threshold for flood occurrence is estimated to be 11.3 mm/hr.

Social Sciences - Abstract
Equality and law have always been an important proposition of human concern, which embodies the relationship between human beings and is an important guarantee of social harmony and stability. Rousseau, as an 18th century French Enlightenment thinker and an important representative of the doctrine of natural law and social contract theory, constructed the hypothesis of the state of nature and systematically put forward the concept of social equality and the concept of public will law, which together with Hobbes, Locke and other scholars’ theories. They have profoundly influenced the formulation of laws and the construction of administrative systems in Western countries. The study of this work will help to understand the underlying logic of Western institutional settings and clarify the purpose of equality and law. This article uses both documentary research and comparative analysis to review Rousseau’s views on equality and law and to return to primary sources. The study also compares and contrasts Rousseau’s views with those of Hobbes, such as the state of nature and the state.

- Abstract
Background: The association between short-term changes in serum magnesium level and risk of in-hospital mortality was investigated in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, data of 2,716 patients with AMI were extracted from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC-III and MIMIC-IV) database for 2001-2012. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards models were used to explore the association between serum magnesium level and short-term change and in-hospital mortality in patients with AMI. In addition, subgroups according to age, gender, Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score, and Simplified Acute Physiology Score (SAPS-II) were also analysed. Results: In total, 504 (18.6%) patients died in hospital. After adjusting for covariates, all AMI patients with high magnesium levels at ICU admission (HR=1.03, 95% CI: 0.83-1.27) or 48 hours after ICU admission (all p <0.05), or those demonstrating a change in magnesium level within the first 48 hours of ICU stay (all p <0.05) were shown to have a high risk of in-hospital mortality. Moreover, this correlation was retained irrespective of age, gender, SOFA score, and SAPS-II (all p <0.05). Conclusion: Serum magnesium levels at different time points after ICU admission and change in serum magnesium level during the first 48 hours were associated with in-hospital mortality in patients with AMI, indicating that clinical attention should be paid to short-term changes in serum magnesium levels regarding treatment adjustment, which may further reduce the risk of mortality. In finance area, portfolio construction is one of the most vital questions since the primary work of modern finance and attract numerous studies. In this paper, we focused on this issue in pharmaceutical industry since the industry is crucial for human beings. We adopted several methods for portfolio construction, like Equal Weighted Model, Monte Carlo simulation, and maximize Sharpe ratio etc. Specifically, five assets are selected. Then based on the Monte Carlo method, we constructed two optimized portfolios in the framework of the efficient frontier, i.e., portfolios with minimum variance and maximum Sharpe ratio. By analyzing the two portfolios, we found that the NVS accounts for the largest proportions in the optimized portfolio. The results in this paper may shed lights for certain investors who invest in pharmaceutical industry.

Environmental sciences ,GE1-350 - Abstract
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a series of neurodevelopmental disorders presented as behavioral abnormality such as problems with social, communication, and repetitive behaviors. There are four ASD-related monogenetic diseases worthy of analysis: fragile X syndrome, PTEN hamartoma tumor syndrome, tuberous sclerosis complex, and Rett syndrome. These four monogenetic diseases are respectively caused by one gene and have something in common in phenotype while also have their unique features. All of them have been related to the same pathway: phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate kinase (PI3K) / protein kinase B (PKB or Akt) / mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway, which plays a primary role in many physiological processes on a cellular level. Nowadays, there is no cure for these monogenetic diseases, thus much remains to be done to find ways to treat patients with the diseases mentioned above.

Environmental sciences ,GE1-350 - Abstract
Innovation and technological progress are essential approaches to sustainable growth, but what will affect enterprises’ innovating motivation hasn’t been thoroughly analyzed. We establish an endogenous growth model to analyze the factors that influence an enterprise’s innovation investment, and find that the cumulative technology plays a key role: the more cumulative technology an enterprise has, the more its R&D investment will be. Empirical researches confirm the theoretical conclusions. Our study provides suggestions for policies to promote technological progress and sustainable development.

Environmental sciences ,GE1-350 - Abstract
This study makes use of soybean oil to produce biodiesel using SO42-/ZrO2-HJ-2# caly solid acid catalyst (SZ-HJ-2#). It was through coprecipitation and impregnation method that the catalyst was prepared which was then characterized by means of FE-SEM, XRD, EDS, BET, FT-IR, ICP-MS, NH3-TPD and XPS. The catalytic property of the synthesized catalyst was determined by using it to produce biodiesel from soybean oil. A study was carried out to find the effect of the different preparation condition of catalyst affecting the process. For SZ-HJ-2#, Optimized condition of 0.5 mol/L(zirconium salt solution), 1.5 mol/L (the concentration of sulfuric acid impregnating solution) and 450℃(calcination temperature). Optimized conditions of 8.32:1 methanol to soybean oil molar ratio and catalytic loading of 1 wt% at 55℃ with a stirring rate of 500 rpm for a reaction duration of 10 h gave a maximum yield of 89.6 wt%. Moreover, the further investigation indicated the catalytic activities were closely related to the ratio of Brönsted acid sites and intensity on catalysts. Besides, the excellent performance of the catalyst during recycling was shown by conducting reusability study.
