Unlabelled: OBJECTIF : Estimer la prévalence des habitudes aux jeux de hasard et d'argent (JHA), du jeu à risque (JAR) et du jeu pathologique probable (JPP) dans la région de la Gaspésie et des Îles-de-la-Madeleine (GIM) (Québec). MÉTHODE : Un sondage téléphonique portant sur les habitudes de jeu a été réalisé auprès de 1014 adultes résidents de la région de la GIM. Les participants ont été sélectionnés aléatoirement. L'échelle Problem Gambling Severity Index de l'Indice canadien du jeu excessif a servi à l'évaluation du jeu pathologique. RÉSULTATS : Quatre-vingt-cinq pour cent des répondants rapportent avoir joué à un JHA au cours de l'année précédente. Les activités les plus populaires sont l'achat de billets de loterie, la participation à des tirages et collectes de fonds, le bingo, les cartes ou jeux de société en famille ou avec des amis pour de l'argent, la loterie vidéo et les jeux de casino. Les taux de prévalence du JAR et du JPP s'élèvent à 1,5 % et 0,8 % respectivement. La loterie vidéo s'avère le jeu le plus souvent identifié comme étant problématique, suivi des loteries instantanées et ordinaires (par exemple, Lotto 6/49).Conclusion: Les habitudes de jeu des Gaspésiens et des Madelinots sont similaires à celles observées chez l'ensemble des Québécois. La discussion soulève entre autres la question de la validité de l'évaluation de la présence d'un problème de jeu parmi les membres de l'entourage, et certaines perceptions à risque, dont celle qu'il est impossible de développer un problème aux loteries instantanées et au bingo. Introduction: Vocal Cord Dysfunction (VCD) is a syndrome characterized by paradoxical adduction of the vocal folds during breathing. Its non-specific clinical manifestations frequently lead to misdiagnosis and delay in its treatment. The treatment of VCD is not pharmacological but rehabilitative and remains poorly appreciated., Observation: In this clinical case we describe a 16-year-old female judoka who presented with effort intolerance associated with occasional dyspnea, which had suddenly worsened over the preceding few months so that in now produced sudden respiratory difficulty, mainly during intense and sudden efforts. After a period where her symptoms were confused with asthma, she was diagnosed with exercise-induced VCD. Her treatment was aimed to: (a) rehabilitate respiratory mechanics in order to eliminate abdominal-thoracic asynchrony, (b) rehabilitate naso-nasal breathing, (c) train her to control abdominal-diaphragmatic breathing at rest and then during effort, (d) train her to use ventilatory control as soon as prodromal symptoms appear in order to prevent the development of stridor or complete closure of the vocal folds (at rest and then progressively during exercise)., Conclusion: Following the implementation of these rehabilitation strategies to correct her ventilatory and dyskinetic issues, the patient no longer develops respiratory discomfort during exercise, including during judo competitions., (Copyright © 2021. Bile cast nephropathy is a tubulo-interstitial nephropathy. Its diagnosis may be under-estimated. It develops in patients who have cholestatic jaundice, with high bilirubinemia. Bile salts are freely filtered through glomerulus. Under certain circumstances, it forms casts into the tubule and cause an acute tubular necrosis. The diagnosis evidence is histologic, but fulfilment of renal biopsy is often made difficult, because of the hemostatic abnormalities that patients with hepatocellular injury develop. The treatment is supportive and etiological. We report here the case of a patient who presented a drug-induced hepatic jaundice, complicated with acute kidney failure secondary to bile cast nephropathy. Immunotherapy and Allogeneic Stem Cells Transplantation: Allogeneic stem cell transplantations represent perfect example of immunotherapy. Its positive aspects are due to the graft versus tumor effect. Unfortunately, this therapeutic advantage is usually associated with graft versus host effects. While the mechanism of these two graft reactions remain unclear, this is possible to modulate these immunologic effects. The type of conditioning regimen, the source of donor and the use of donor cells after the transplantation may influence the toxicity and the tumor response, leading to a better optimization of the procedure. The growth of Skeletonema costatum, under natural nutriment conditions, was studied using a bulk culture fiber dialyzing apparatus. The diatom displayed normal development of chain length (average cell number per chain) which coincided with the culture growth stages; that is, the cell number per colony increased during the active division period and decreased thereafter with the beginning of the prestationary phase. This morphological behaviour showed that the alga cells were not affected by such physical shocks as collision or tension occurring during repeated cell transfers from growth chambers to the dialyzing apparatus or at the time of their passage through the fiber fascicles. Measured at different growth stages, the cell contents in carbon, nitrogen, and chlorophyll confirmed the above results and showed for S. costatum a biological productivity comparable with that obtained in smaller dialyzing containers (dialyzing bags). Through a comparison between the dialyzing culture and a static culture grown in an enriched medium, certain characteristics were determined.

Immunoelectrophoresis is the usual method for identifying abnormal bands detected by zone electrophoresis. In the last few years, a new technique has appeared, that of immunofixation. This method involves an antibody-antigen precipitation reaction in an electrophoretic strip. The aim of the present study was to compare immunofixation (IFX) and immunoelectrophoresis (IEP) of 101 sera with one or more homogeneous bands upon serum protein electrophoresis: among them 97 bands were subsequently characterized by IFX on agarose gel, and only 50 by IEP. IF appears to be a more sensitive technique for characterizing M-components, especially those with multiple bands. While more rapid than IEP, this new procedure does not seem appropriate for routine use.

Haemostasis in the new-born is a product of various factors which are both qualitative and quantitative. The only factors that compare in levels and quality with those in the adult are factors V, VIII and XIII. They are alterations in the semi-analytical tests for coagulation except in the Stypven time. In contrast with this deficit shown up in haemostasis by global tests coagulation is normal and in truth there is hypercoagulability. Using Laurell's method of immunoelectrophoresis for levels of alpha 2 M high levels of this are shown contrasting with progressively lowered antithrombitic action. These paradoxes no doubt arise from the fact that neonatal haemostasis is analysed using standardised techniques and reactions which were developed for adult haemostasis, from which it is certainly as different as from those of other animals. Neonatal haemostasis is perfectly balanced in normal conditions. Important changes occur however in respiratory distress where there is a drop in factor V and soluble complexes appear, bringing about rough shapes suggestive of the subclinical syndrome of defibrination. This situation will be further developed in a forthcoming article.

From the sera or pleural effusions of 29 patients among 58 suffering of bronchopulmonary cancer we found a CK BB isoenzyme (CK EC 2.7.3.2). There is no false positive in sera of our group control. Lung homogenates and alveolar macrophages are found to be rich with this fraction. Is this isoenzyme a cancer marker for the broncho-pulmonary tract?

Antithrombin III concentration was studied in 86 patients with recurrent or extensive venous thrombosis. Two of them were found to have an hereditary antithrombin III deficiency. 25 patients receiving heparin therapy had low antithrombin III concentration. After stopping heparin treatment antithrombin rose to a normal level. Pathological antithrombin III modifications are recalled (synthesis decrease in liver diseases, intra vascular consumption during active venous thrombosis). Antithrombin III decreased activity induced by heparin treatment is pointed out.
