1. Comparison of Witczak NCHRP 1-40D & Hirsh dynamic modulus models based on different binder characterization methods: a case study

Abstract

The Pavement ME Design method considers the hot mix asphalt (HMA) dynamic modulus (E*) as the main mechanistic property that affects pavement performance. For the HMA, E* can be determined directly by laboratory testing (level 1) or it can be estimated using predictive equations (levels 2 and 3). Pavement-ME Design introduced the NCHRP1-40D model as the latest model for predicting E* when levels 2 or 3 HMA inputs are used. This study focused on utilizing laboratory measured E* data to compare NCHRP1-40D model with Hirsh model. This comparison included the evaluation of the binder characterization level as per Pavement ME Design and its influence on the performance of these models. E*tests were conducted in the laboratory on 25 local mixes representing different road construction projects in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The main tests for the mix binders were dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR) and Brookfield Rotational Viscometer (RV). Results showed that both models with level 3 binder data produced very similar accuracy. The highest accuracy and lowest bias for both models occurred with level 3 binder data. Finally, the accuracy of prediction and level of bias for both models were found to be a function of the binder input level.

Résumé: Bien que les Palestiniennes vivant en Israël aient récemment vu leur niveau d'études progresser, elles restent moins présentes que les femmes juives sur le marché du travail. Les auteurs s'appuient sur des données de l'enquête sur la population active et de l'enquête sociale couvrant la période 1995‐2016 pour examiner les facteurs susceptibles d'expliquer cet écart – facteurs socio‐économiques et démographiques, religiosité, capital humain, structure familiale et politiques publiques, retraite anticipée. Ils constatent que tous ces facteurs influent sur la probabilité des Palestiniennes de participer au marché du travail, ce qui a des implications pour les politiques du marché du travail. Abstract

Les défis récents tels que la mondialisation, l'évolution technologique et une économie fondée sur le savoir ont incité de nombreuses organisations et pays à rechercher de nouvelles façons de conserver leur avantage concurrentiel. C’est dans ce cadre que l’université entrepreneuriale, qui constitue un élément fondamental du système éducatif, peut jouer un rôle décisif dans le développement et la promotion de l’esprit d’entreprise, en faisant de tous les diplômés des établissements universitaires des entrepreneurs et assurant un développement socio-économique rapide. L'objectif de cet article est de montrer la relation entre l'université entrepreneuriale et le développement socio-économique, en se basant sur des approches théoriques. Également, ce travail mettra l'accent sur le rôle de l'université Hassan II de Casablanca (UH2C) en tant qu'une université entrepreneuriale dans le processus de construction sociale, ainsi que son apport dans le développement économique. Les résultats de ce travail indiquent qu’il existe un lien positif entre l’université entrepreneuriale et le développement socioéconomique, et la voie vers une université entrepreneuriale commence par une collaboration gouvernementale-industrie-université. A cet égard, le rôle de l’UH2C s'est élargi pour se concentrer sur l'amélioration du capital entrepreneurial et la facilitation des comportements pour prospérer dans une société entrepreneuriale et contribuer à la dynamique nationale de notre pays.

Abstract

L'article étudie les défis auxquels sont confrontées les entreprises lorsqu'elles recrutent les nouvelles générations (génération Y et génération Z). Il examine en particulier l'expérience des employeurs issus de la génération des baby-boomers et de la génération X dans le recrutement de ces nouvelles générations. Une recherche qualitative a été utilisée pour recueillir des informations auprès de 15 employeurs de différents secteurs d'activité, d'entreprises de tailles différentes, dans la région de Tanger-Tétouan. Les personnes interrogées ont fourni des détails sur les difficultés rencontrées et les problèmes constatés au cours du processus de recrutement. Dans ce cadre, plusieurs défis ont été identifiés, principalement liés aux différences générationnelles, aux changements technologiques et aux manquements de l'entreprise. Les résultats ont servi de base à la validation de nos hypothèses, qui ont été généralement confirmées.

Abstract

Grapevine trunk diseases have devastating consequences on vineyards worldwide. European wild grapevines (Vitis vinifera subs. sylvestris) from the last viable population in Germany along the Rhine river showed variable degrees of resistance against Neofusicoccum parvum (strain Bt‐67), a fungus associated with Botryosphaeriaceae‐related dieback. - Representative genotypes from different subclades of this population were mapped with respect to their ability to induce wood necrosis, as well as their defence responses in a controlled inoculation system. - The difference in colonization patterns could be confirmed by cryo‐scanning electron microscopy, while there was no relationship between vessel diameter and infection success. Resistant lines accumulated more stilbenes, that were in addition significantly partitioned to nonglycosylated viniferin trimers. By contrast, the susceptible genotypes accumulated less stilbenes with a significantly higher proportion of glycosylated piceid. - We suggest a model in which in the resistant genotypes phenylpropanoid metabolism is channelled rapidly and specifically to the bioactive stilbenes. Our study specifies a resistant chemotype against grapevines trunk diseases and paves a way to breed for resistance against grapevine Botryosphaeriaceae‐related dieback.

Abstract

Primary lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in men in the world. Although the introduction of new drugs, new therapeutic strategies and despite therapeutic advances, the prognosis is relatively improved during the last years.To evaluate the prognosis of patients with locally advanced or metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and to identify prognostic factors at these stages.A retrospective study, including 140 cases of locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC diagnosed in our department between 2003 and 2013.The average age was 61±10 years (35 to 90 years). Sex ratio was 18. The delays management were 80±25 days for presentation, 45±20 days for the diagnostic, while the treatment delay was 8±2.33 days. The cancer was at stage IIIA in 14%, IIIB in 27% and IV in 59%. Six months and one-year survival was between 50 and 74% and between 9 and 25%, respectively. Better survival was observed in patients with NSCLC on stage III, having better performance status, having comorbid conditions, with prolonged delays management, a short therapeutic delay and patients who received specific antitumor treatment.The prognostic factors in locally advanced and metastatic NSCLC in our patients were: stage of cancer, performance status, comorbid conditions, delay of management and specific antitumoral treatment. These factors should be considered in the management of patients with advanced NSCLC.
