Little is known about how teachers and doctors make sense of ADHD. Drawing on a corpus of online accounts, we reconstructed their worldviews with a qualitative analysis. While both professional groups referred to a male troublemaker and to the German literary figure of the Fidgety Phil, they also expressed rival expert claims. Doctors represented the scientific authority in labeling and diagnosing ADHD, whereas teachers attached objective meaning to the medical judgement by pathologizing deviant behavior and justifying measures of control.

Die strafrechtliche Abteilung des Bundesgerichts weist die Beschwerde eines Studenten ab und bestätigt dessen Verurteilung wegen Betrugs. Der Beschwerdeführer hatte seiner Vertragspartnerin die vereinbarten CHF 2000 für die von ihr erbrachten sexuellen Dienstleistungen nicht bezahlt und stellte sich auf den Standpunkt, es sei kein gültiger Vertrag zwischen ihnen zustande gekommen. Das Bundesgericht folgt in seinen Erwägungen der wohl herrschenden Lehre, dem Bundesrat und gewissen kantonalen Urteilen, wonach der Sexarbeitsvertrag nicht (mehr) per se sittenwidrig sei, und lässt der sexuellen Dienstleistung einen Vermögenswert zukommen. Es bestehe kein Widerspruch zu den der Gesamtrechtsordnung immanenten ethischen Prinzipien und Wertmassstäben, womit die Vereinbarung als gültig zu qualifizieren sei. Damit ist ein lang erwartetes Urteil gefällt. Es bleiben weitere rechtliche Massnahmen zu treffen. -- La chambre pénale du Tribunal fédéral rejette le grief d'un étudiant et confirme sa condamnation pour escroquerie. Le plaignant avait refusé de payer à sa partenaire contractuelle les 2 000 CHF convenus pour les services sexuels fournis par celle-ci, au motif qu’aucun contrat valable n’avait été conclu entre eux. Dans ses considérations, le Tribunal fédéral suit la doctrine dominante, issue du Conseil fédéral et de certains arrêts cantonaux, selon laquelle le contrat de travail sexuel n'est pas (plus) immoral en soi, et permet au service sexuel d'avoir une valeur patrimoniale. Étant donné qu’il n'y a pas de contradiction avec les principes et normes éthiques inhérents à l'ordre juridique général, l'accord doit être qualifié de valable. Il s’agit d’un jugement longuement attendu. D’autres mesures juridiques devront encore être prises.

Im folgenden Beitrag richten wir unsere Aufmerksamkeit auf die Weiterbildung im beruflich-betrieblichen Bereich. Nach einer allgemeinen Bestandesaufnahme zur Weiterbildungspolitik wird anhand ausgewerteter Daten aus unserem Forschungsprojekt zur Weiterbildung in Kleinen und Mittlere Unternehmen (KMU) (gespiegelt in der Sicht betrieblicher Personal- und Bildungsverantwortlicher) die Frage erörtert, ob spezifische Unterstützung von Seiten der Bildungspolitik sinnvoll und erwünscht ist.

With the visualization provided by the operating microscope (OM), it is now possible to place fillings in formerly inaccessible areas and work in a way that preserves the most enamel and/or dentin. The OM enables working with full overview in interdental areas or in hard-to-reach areas around crowns. The good view not only enables new forms of therapy, but reduces stress while working. The two clinical cases cited show clearly how the OM can be used advantageously in a range of situations--from the economical repair of a large old filling to minimal-invasive initial treatment. As an added bonus, the OP allows a completely relaxed and upright working posture.

The great advantages of using a stereoscopic operating microscope in endodontics and especially in endodontic surgery are being increasingly advocated in postgraduate training courses and numerous publications. Widely underestimated, however, is the fact that this tool may open new horizons to almost all dental specialities and will improve ergonomics of the dental work place. Moreover, the superb images may contribute some pleasure to the daily dental work and stress. All this makes the clinical stereoscope interesting also for the general practice of dentistry. The purpose of this paper is to report about several years of practical experience with the "scope" in general dentistry. Technical aspects are discussed as well as the possibilities of use. Practical hints regarding the type of scope and the technique of its use are given in order to lower the barrier of entrance into this new era of doing dental work.

As part of a study on the possible nephrotoxicity of hydrocarbons, the urinary erythrocyte concentration and the percentage of glomerular erythrocytes were assessed. Albumin excretion rate, glycosaminoglycan and retinol-binding protein concentration, and N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase activity were measured simultaneously. The results show that the erythrocyte concentration and the percentage of glomerular erythrocytes tend to increase with hydrocarbon exposure, and that a nephrotoxic effect of occupational hydrocarbon exposure deserves consideration.

Several methods have been proposed for detecting the oxidation and breakdown of polyunsaturated fatty acids (lipoperoxidation process) in humans. The lipoperoxidation products which hitherto have been measured in sufficiently large groups of subjects are lipid conjugated dienes, malonic dialdehyde and fluorescent byproducts in biological fluids and low molecular weight aliphatic hydrocarbons in expired air. None of these methods can yet be considered as the method of choice. Various analytical pitfalls and several epidemiological and statistical biases cast doubt about the conclusions of the majority of the studies carried out so far in humans. Provided further studies are undertaken to determine the factors which influence the metabolism of low molecular weight hydrocarbons in man, expired air analysis might constitute a practical and promising in vivo approach for detecting an increased lipoperoxidation process.

Work and recovery pulse were measured with 22 female workers doing heavy work. The proposed limit of capacity under continuous operating conditions of 25 work pulses was surpassed by 10 of the 22 workers. Recovery pulse made it possible to detect illness in two cases and correlates significantly with the total duration of relaxing operation. Similar results could not be obtained with work pulse. As the recovery pulse is quickly and easily measurable, it was in the frame of this study a more interesting value than the work pulse.

The new Swiss federal legislation on vocational and trade training requires that all cantons organize a system of medical screening for young people entering an apprenticeship. This paper focuses on the principles and implementation of such an examination. It outlines the most frequent health problems young people may face upon leaving school and entering apprenticeship. It underlines the difficulties of this kind of examination, since absolute contra-indications to distinct professions are very rare. Indeed, the medical examination should not be a selection procedure but much more an occasion to facilitate the transition from school to workplace. With this objective, the canton of Vaud health authority has created an examination sheet that will be supplied each year to the physicians (private pediatricians, general practitioners and internists) examining about 5000 candidates. This instrument introduces a uniform history taking procedure oriented towards occupational medicine and focuses on a few important screening items. No laboratory tests are mandatory. The process does not use a contra-indication list, which most of the time appears fallacious. It insists on the importance of an assessment of each individual situation.
