Abstract

The efficiency of estrus induction treatment and fertility after artificial insemination were monitored with 88 zebu Azawak and 82 zebu Goudali treated with crestar® implant for a period of 10 days. The tests were carried out in the dry season (naz=42, ngoud=40) and in the rainy season (naz=46, ngoud=42) in semi-intensive farms around Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso). Treatment was completed by two injections of prostaglandin F2a (500 micrograms) and PMSG (400 IU), respectively 8th and 10th days of implant installation. Two artificial inseminations were performed at 48 hours and 72 hours after stopping treatment. The average rate of estrus induction in zebu Azawak and zebu Goudali were respectively 90.9% and 95.1%. The means time from onset of oestrus was 35.9±3.9 and 30.4±4.8 hours respectively for zebu Azawak and zebu Goudali. The average durations of oestrus were 11.3±1.4 hours in the Azawak and 12.1±2.4 hours in Goudali. The average gestation was 21.6% in zebu Azawak against 42.7% in zebu Goudali. Abstract

In ruminant embryo transfer development, the limiting step remains the superovulation of the donor: using both PMSG and pituitary extracts, the superovulatory response is variable. In our research unit, FSH and LH were purified until homogeneity. Superovulatory treatment includes the administration of pure FSH the day following the preovulatory LH pulse and an administration of an LH/FSH mixture in the middle cycle. This biphasic stimulation of folliculogenesis allows superovulatory response with more and higher quality embryos.

Abstract

The oestrus synchronization in cattle is being tested as a biotechnical method supporting the implementation of the crossing programme in the Republic of Mali Using the latest results of sexual physiology, the effect is described of Bovisynchron Jenapharm (chlormadinonacetate). Bovisynchron is characterised by a high certainty of synchronization and a good toleration. It leads to a highly fertile oestrus of all animals and to a high rate of conception. An analysis of the situation in the Republic of Mali is used to discuss the advantages of this method.

Abstract

The first experiments are reported on oestrus synchronization in cattle in the Republic of Mali. The animals recieved Bovisynchron twice a day orally over a period of 15 days. The synchronization effect was marked; insemination was performed on the 5th and 6th day p.s. The intensity of the oestrus and especially the results of pregnancy are in close relationship to the breeding conditions and the general status of the animals. The oestrus synchronization is considered a favourable biotechnical method for regulating the reproduction provided that the animals are kept stationary or temporarily stationary.
