This paper discusses six vocabularies of motive through which women justify their decision to not have children, by using a case study of comments posted on YouTube. In the sociological sense proposed by Mills (1940), a satisfying or adequate reason is one that satisfies those who ask the question. As a formulation, a reason tends to be an acceptable response to questions about social and linguistic behavior. The research method employed is qualitative content analysis and the analysis consists of 85 comments posted on YouTube in response to three videos from different content creators. In conclusion, two of the vocabularies of motive focused on providing a decent life for the child, three vocabularies of motive prioritized the happiness and well-being of the women involved until the moment of deciding to become a mother, and the last vocabularies focus on the society’s reaction.

The study of classical religious and literary texts was the main trend of the Far Eastern traditional culture. Exegesis prompted a specific vision of philosophy, literature, and science. Examining the ties between classical texts and their commentaries is important for the better understanding of the development of the Far Eastern civilizations, including Japanese. Japanese commentaries developed, first, around central religious texts of Buddhism, Shinto, and writings by Confucius, and, second, around literary texts. This article mostly examines comments on poetic monuments of medieval Japan. These comments prompted canonization of the main literary works. Already in the early medieval time (Heian era 9–12 cc.), there appeared first comments on the classical texts of antiquity, for example, the comments to Manyōsyū (Collection of Ten Thousand Leaves, 8 c.), the first poetic anthology of Japan. These comments were an early attempt to restore the image of the Japanese recorded in the eight century in Chinese hieroglyphs. In the tenth century, the classical poetry acquired a new form, being recorded in both hieroglyphs and Japanese syllabary (hiragana). There were several genres of literary criticism in Japan: treatises on literature, commentaries on classical texts, compilations of anthologies (e.g. selection of literary texts for intricately organized collections), and poetic contests. Commentators mostly concentrated on deciphering the meaning of select words and phrases while the overall meaning of the text remained behind-the-scenes. The ordinary compilers and commentators on medieval artistic texts became elevated to the level of poets whereas comments began to form part of the canon. The canon itself appears to have been closely connected with compiling, editing, and commenting on the text.

[full article and abstract in English] The subject of the paper is the analysis of the expression of stance taking in an online environment, mainly in the comments of users of social networks such as Facebook and Twitter about the presidential candidates of the American Presidential Election in 2016. The empirical data analysis was carried out following the ideas of J. W. Du Bois (2007), D. Barton & C. Lee (2013) and R. Englebretson (2007) on stance taking and J. W. Du Bois’ (2007) model of stance triangle, i.e. grouping instances of stance-taking into one of these groups: evaluation, affect or epistemicity, which served as the main framework of this study. The work of linguists D. Barton & C. Lee (2013) on the expression of stance-taking in an online environment were also taken into consideration. Having in mind the fact that stance identification is a challenging task , i.e. it could be implicitly as well as explicitly expressed and that it should be inferred from different modes of its expression and interpreted with reference to many contextual and intertextual factors, in the current analysis the authors focused on interpretation of linguistic as well as other multimodal means of the expression of stance that were used by users of social networks in their writing spaces on the topic of the Presidential Election in the United States in 2016. It should also be mentioned that the analysis presented in this article offers only one of the many possible interpretations of the data. Moreover, the current paper concentrates mainly on the presentation of the empirical data of the expression of affective stance. However, it should be indicated that in some cases stance types overlap, i.e. one instance could be treated as both taking an affective and an evaluative stance, as judgements and evaluation (i.e. evaluative stance) are often based on feelings (i.e. affective stance). The main source of the empirical data were the instances of stance taking taken from comments found on Donald Trump’s and Hillary Clinton’s verified Facebook and Twitter pages during their presidential campaigns in 2016. All in all, 147 examples of posts and comments from the social networks Facebook and Twitter were collected: 72 comments incorporating stance taking on Donald Trump‘s posts, and 75 comments including stance taking on Hillary Clinton‘s posts. The results of the empirical data analysis showed that the affective stance was expressed by linguistic as well as multimodal means.

La visée de cette contribution est de rendre compte d’une recherche qui a pour objectif d’apporter un éclairage sur la manière dont les enseignants novices du primaire formulent les commentaires écrits à destination des élèves en difficulté scolaire. Nous cherchons à voir si des enseignants débutants, qui ont suivi une formation actualisée à l’évaluation formative, utilisent aussi le bulletin dans une démarche formative dans laquelle l’apprenant est valorisé et qui s’inscrit dans une optique de régulation des apprentissages. Les commentaires laissés par les enseignants dans 27 bulletins ont été analysés et une typologie est proposée.

The development of newspapers on the Web 2.0 has transformed journalistic practice: readers have shifted from a passive to an active role. This transformation has two major implications: first, online newspapers receive a huge amount of information from users, which they previously could not access, and, secondly, the interactions that occur in this environment have specific characteristics that, until now, have not been fully investigated. The aim of our study is to present a proposal of a basic scheme for analysis of user comments in the digital press based upon techniques used in the analysis of computer-mediated discourse and journalism studies. From the area of computer-mediated discourse we propose the use of the following concepts: communication channels, filtration, communicative purpose and topic. Meanwhile, from journalistic studies, the use of the concepts of convergence and interactivity (understood as exclusivity and personalization) are suggested.

This paper analyses a corpus of readers’ comme nts in online news websites, with the objective of describing this widespread discursive practice in participatory media. If writing comments is a long- established practice, we seek here to outline the distin ctive features of this form of written participation and discuss whether or not it is possible to describe it as a genre. In order to do so, we will try to describe readers’ comments from a formal, pragma tic and techno-discursive perspective.

This article analyses some metalinguistic comments posted by users on seven Belgian news websites in French. Comments are a space the public uses to express its criticisms of and views about journalists: we propose here an approach to social speech concerning journalists’ language. Selected via three systematic requests (on belgicisme, anglicisme and langue française), our examples show that web users react to different types of “mistakes” and in teract about them, but also present journalists as “inadequate models”. Finally, we suggest that ther e is an affiliation between online news comments and traditional columns on language usage: even thou gh it is a more open space for discussion, online comments are shown to uphold purist discourse w ith regard to language in the media.

This contribution is part of the field of digital discourse analysis, specifically the analysis of a techno-genre, that of comments in socio-digital networks. We seek, first, to reveal the particularity of the use of two discursive phenomena that is: irony and misunderstanding in a digital ecology of discourse produced in Web 2.0, then, to make a distinction between these two processes by terms of their semantic reception which generally represents a shift in meaning in terms of their interpretation and understanding. Through a qualitative analysis of the comments, we use an Algerian Facebook page: Diridarek.com to show that irony is the result of a misunderstanding, two processes used with the intention of modifying the meaning of the message emitted by comments in the social networks digital.

This article looks at a polemic that erupted in 2019 on the social networking site Facebook around the "hijab de running", a sports hijab that the French company Decathlon wanted to market in France. In this context, we are paying particular attention to the discourses produced by supporters of the sale of this hijab as they circulated on Facebook in the comments space. By placing our research at the crossroads of several disciplines - discourse analysis, digital discourse analysis and lexical semantics - we intend to give an account of what is at stake in these discourses. To do this, we studied the argumentative strategies used in the online debate. The analysis revealed the mobilisation of two main strategies with the aim of building a case to legitimise sales on French soil on the one hand, and to denounce the attitude of opponents on the other.

This article proposes some lines to determine how scientific discourses on blogs are likely to make text. It focuses more specifically on hypertextual enrichment and comments that question textual boundaries. The analysis based on a corpus of 87 posts extracted from Hypothèses (a platform of blogs in the Humanities) identify the cognitive functions provided by these two components and their impact on the textual judgment (Adam 2011) that may be carried on the posts. Finally, it proposes a reading of hypertextual enrichment and comments as discursive gestures of knowledge (Lttr13 2016) that play a role in the textualization process of scientific posts.
