We conducted a series of analogue experiments on shortening of a brittle cover (dry sand) above a deep, thin, frictional detachment (glass microbeads). In some experiments, the cover was homogeneous, entirely brittle. In others, there was a thin viscous silicone layer (representing salt) embedded at mid height into the cover, and initially located in the foreland of the fold-and-thrust belt. Our goal was to determine whether or not the presence of such a décollement in the cover could have an impact on the mechanics and kinematics of the underlying subsalt thrusts. Results confirm that, once the front of the foldbelt reached the hinterland salt pinch out, the kinematics of the deeper belt changed drastically: its front stopped propagating forward, and most of the subsequent shortening was accommodated by a larger-than-normal slip along the foremost and youngest deep thrust, while, above the salt décollement, the deformation front propagated very fast, creating a very low surface slope. We hypothesize that it is the gentle sub-critical surface slope associated with rocksalt’s low viscosity that prevents the build-up of an overall surface slope steep enough to allow the underlying, deep foldbelt to continue propagating forward. Finally, one experiment in which only one half of the width of the model comprised an interbedded viscous décollement has shown that the kinematics of the deep thrust was affected even in the adjacent salt-free domain.

Introduction: In this article, we offer an overview of the Capdroits participatory research approach, initially focusing on the controversy surrounding Article 12 of the International Convention of Persons with Disabilities, “Recognition of legal personality under conditions of equality.” Its objective is to encourage the participation of the people concerned by Article 12. It brings together academic researchers, experts in support relationships, and people directly concerned by impediment situations., Purpose of the Study: In this contribution, we present our participatory research approach, the methodology of “public problem-solving” and the ways in which it was deployed. We will show how productions and evaluations have been made accessible, while identifying the tensions at work., Results: Two phases of research have been developed and deployed since 2015, based on an experimental “public problem-solving” methodology. Several collaborative productions have been developed, intended for various types of reception and made possible thanks to accessibility practices. They nevertheless highlight the tensions produced in the participatory processes., Conclusions: The epistemology that we have been collectively developing since 2015 radically aims to reduce social and cognitive inequalities by promoting experiential knowledge while perpetuating inequalities. Our ability to dialogue [14] is the basis for co-constructing a radical epistemology, which, while imperfect, is profoundly purposeful.

Objectives: Platelet serotonin and its urinary metabolite 5-HIAA (5-hydroxyindolacetic acid) are the main biomarkers measured for the detection of neuroendocrine tumors (NET). We observe in our laboratory many false positives or false negatives for the 2 assays using threshold values given by the manufacturer. We aim to determine our own local threshold values for a better detection of gastrointestinal NETs., Methods: We studied patients with measurement of platelet serotonin and/or urinary 5-HIAA in University Hospital of Tours between January 2005 and June 2016. We established an « index » cohort with 75% of patients to determine local threshold value for the 2 parameters. A "validation" cohort constituted with 25% of remaining patients allowed us to compare the performances of manufacturer's values with local threshold values., Results: Two hundred ninety patients were included, with 19 suffering from NETs. Local threshold value for platelet serotonin was determined at 5.13 amol/platelet, the one for urinary 5-HIAA at 3.60 μmol/mmol urinary creatinine. Platelet serotonin specificity was better with local threshold value for identical sensibility (0.75). Urinary 5-HIAA sensibility was improved with local threshold value (1 vs 0.667) for identical specificity (0.902)., Conclusion: Using our local threshold value for platelet serotonin and urinary 5-HIAA improved diagnostic performances of these biochemical markers to detect NETs.

Since new ways of radiodiagnostic exploration of the adrenal glands are now performed, it is important to take stock upon the complications of adrenal angiography. These complications are very different according to the fact that we explore pheochromocytomas or not. The complications of stimulation, of hypertensive accident or collapsus are quite specially observed during the angiography of pheochromocytomas. They must be prevented by a selection of the indications and a reanimation pre and per angiography. Lesions of glandular destruction that lead to a hormonal insufficiency (sometimes therapeutic) are observed outwards pheochromocytomas. Because they depend upon the explored adrenal lesion and specially of the angiographic conditions of the exploration, these complications must be prevented by a rigorous technic.
