A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 112 HIV positive patients who had received antiretroviral therapy for3 months to assess the efficacy of treatment (viral load400 copies/mL). The median age at enrolment was 36 years, 90% of patients were at the AIDS stage and median CD4 rate was 118/mm3. Patients received a combined treatment of 2 NRTI +1 NNRTI (51%), 3 NRTI (45%) and 2 NRTI+1 PI (4%). Virological efficacy was seen in 74% of the patients, irrespective of the prescribed protocol and the initial clinical and immunological profile. Mean improvements measured were 20% on the Karnofsky index (KI), 2.1 kg/m2 in body mass index and 82 cells/mm in CD4. The prevalence of side effects was 84%. The predictors for treatment success were quality of care and KI70%.

The bacterium Xylella fastidiosa is gram negative, xylem-inhabiting, devastating pathogen which causes various diseases on more than 300 plant hosts. Given the recent confirmed findings of X. fastidiosa in the European Union, this bacterium is becoming a serious threat to the Moroccan agricultural sector. A survey was conducted during May-September 2015 on the presence of X. fastidiosa in several commercial groves, covering olive, citrus and grapevine growing areas. In a few trees, severe symptoms which could be associated to the bacterium were observed. A total of 900 samples of different crops from different regions were randomly collected: 220 olive trees (cv. Picholine Marocaine) from two regions, 410 citrus trees belonging to 7 different cultivars collected in 4 regions and 270 grapevine plants belonging to 6 different cultivars from 3 regions; all these samples were tested for the presence of X. fastidiosa by using an ELISA commercial kit. The obtained results did not show any positive sample. These preliminary results are taken as an encouraging indication, considering that X. fastidiosa was not found in Morocco, at least in the surveyed crops. However, frequent extensive surveys in different regions are needed to prevent its entrance into the country.

Special aspects of education ,LC8-6691 - Abstract

- Abstract
Introduction: For cardiac arrest victims, providing high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a fundamental component of initial care, especially in out-of-hospital settings. We sought to assess the knowledge of nonmedically trained individuals about CPR in case of cardiac arrest in the population of Jazan, Saudi Arabia., Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey containing 22 questions was administered to individuals aged ≥ 18 years who were not health-care providers. The sample comprised residents of Jazan, Saudi Arabia. The survey included knowledge about the signs of cardiac arrest, previous experiences with CPR, knowledge of basic life support (BLS), and concerns related to CPR., Results: This study examined responses from 480 people to assess their knowledge of CPR. More than one-half were female, and only 33% were male. Only 36.04% reported having received CPR training. In the event of a family member's cardiac arrest, more than 90% state that they would perform CPR. If a family member suffered a sudden cardiac arrest, more than 70% would call an ambulance immediately, whereas only 48% would call an ambulance if the same thing happened to a stranger. Fear of making a mistake was the most common reason for not performing CPR (70.63%). The media was the most common source of CPR training. Women were more aware of the warning signs of sudden cardiac arrest than men. Women were also more likely than men to perform CPR or call for assistance. Furthermore, women were significantly more likely than men to discontinue CPR on a sudden cardiac arrest patient for fear of stopping a working heart or being contaminated by blood or vomit. Few respondents were willing to undergo CPR training; students, homemakers, and retired people were more willing to be trained in CPR than others., Conclusion: In the Saudi Arabian province of Jazan, nonmedically trained people demonstrated a low level of CPR training and knowledge. We believe that making BLS courses available to the general public will increase CPR awareness and understanding among adults and increase survival rates in cases of sudden cardiac arrest., (Copyright © 2023 Copyright: © 2023 Annals of African Medicine.)

- Abstract
Dermoid cysts account for 10-20% of ovarian germ cell tumors. Malignant transformation within ovarian dermoid cyst has been reported in 1-2 per cent of the cases. The treatment remains controversial. In women of childbearing age and in the first stages of the disease unilateral annexectomy without adjuvant therapy is recommended. In menopausal women extensive surgery is sometimes performed, no matter what stage of the disease the person is experiencing. We report the case of a menopausal patient with malignant transformation within ovarian dermoid cyst who underwent surgery. She had a favorable outcome.

- Abstract
Non-functional retroperitoneal paragangliomas are rare tumors. They are often asymptomatic and can reach very large sizes. We report the case of a 49-year old woman with retroperitoneal tumor detected during CT scan examination performed to find the cause of non-specific abdominal pain. Malignant forms, more frequent than benign forms, show locoregional invasion and are characterized by delayed-onset metastases. The treatment of these tumors is based on the most complete degree of surgical resection, since prognosis depends on it. There is no consensus on the usefulness of complementary therapies which may nevertheless constitute a supportive treatment., Competing Interests: Les auteurs ne déclarent aucun conflit d’intérêts.

- Abstract
Lithopedion is a retained abdominal pregnancy that evolves to fetal death and calcification. Its management remains uncodified. Indeed, some authors recommend surgical treatment, while others recommend to wait. We report the case of a 46-year old woman presenting with a pelvic mass revealing a calcified abdominal pregnancy that had been evolving for 8 years., Competing Interests: Les auteurs ne déclarent aucun conflit d'intérêt.

- Abstract
We determined the rate of compliance with antiretroviral therapy and investigated the factors that influence it among 86 HIV patients. Compliance ratio (number of tablets taken/number prescribed) was assessed by tablet count. The mean ratio of compliance was 92%. By tablet count, 77% of the patients were compliant (compliance ratio > or =90%). Non-compliance was significantly associated with side-effects, degree of confidentiality of the care centre and travelling. Compliance correlated significantly with viral load. In multivariate analysis, community support and level of education protected against non-compliance. Patients having already missed a dose and those dissatisfied with confidentiality had a 4 times greater risk of non-compliance.
