Abstract

In cloud computing management, the dynamic adaptation of computing resource allocations under time-varying workload is an active domain of investigation. Several control strategies were already proposed. Here the model-free control setting and the corresponding "intelligent" controllers, which are most successful in many concrete engineering situations, are employed for the "horizontal elasticity." When compared to the commercial "Auto-Scaling" algorithms, our easily implementable approach, behaves better even with sharp workload fluctuations. Abstract

The expression "Algebraic Analysis" was coined by Mikio Sato. It consists of using algebraic notions to solve analytic problem. The origin of Algebraic Analysis is Algebraic Geometry as was developed by Alexander Grothendieck and his school. Mimicking the introduction of Grothendieck's EGA (changing only a few words) one obtains a good definition of the modern theory of linear dynamical systems, as developed by Michel Fliess, Ian Willems, Ulrich Oberst and others., in French

Abstract

Systems for which the backstepping technique cannot be applied are considered. A criterion for the design of a hybrid feedback law is proposed by blending a local stabilizer with a backstepping controller. This hybrid feedback law renders the origin globally asymptotically stable for the closed-loop system. The selection criterion is based on choice of the size of a compact set included in the basin of attraction of the local controller.
