This paper deals with the use of three alternative methods in order to modelling, simulation and estimation of the production rate. The methods for evaluating the analytical performances are based on stochastic modelling of the production systems flows. Processes that imply random phenomena have traditionally been modelled through the use of statistical distributions. The paper shows that the Fuzzy Logic methods are able to achieve similar solutions to conventional methods. The objective of this work is to implement the main contributions brought in the industrial engineering field by modelling, simulating and estimation of the production rate, in a real case-study.

Modelling and simulation of industrial systems have become a conventional method for productivity improvement through optimizing design, operation, performance and troubleshooting. This paper analyses the current Shearcut process flow through modelling and simulation. A case study research was undertaken at a steel processing company that transform steel coils into sheets, plates, slits, tubes, blanks and various roofing products. Two models were created using Arena software. The models were a representation of the process flow found in the Shearcut warehouse. The first model was developed from data obtained from production records and time studies that were carried out on some of the operations. Bottleneck stations and non-value adding operations were identified. The second model was created with some improvements that included reduced non-value adding times. Results from the second model had an improved output. This paper contributes to the use of computer simulation as a tool to improve productivity.

One of the primary ability of an intelligent mobile robot system is obstacle avoidance. BUG algorithms are classic examples of the algorithms used for achieving obstacle avoidance. Unlike many other planning algorithms based on global knowledge, BUG algorithms assume only local knowledge of the environment and a global goal. Among the variations of the BUG algorithms that prevail, BUG-0, BUG-1 and BUG-2 are the more prominent versions. The exhaustive search algorithm present in BUG-1 makes it more reliable and safer for practical applications. Overall, this provides a more predictable and dependable performance. Hence, the essential focus in this paper is on implementing the BUG-1 algorithm across a group of robots to move them from a start location to a target location. The results are compared with the results from BUG-1 algorithm implemented on a single robot. The strategy developed in this work reduces the time involved in moving the robots from starting location to the target location. Further, the paper shows that the total distance covered by each robot in a multi robot-system is always lesser than or equal to that travelled by a single robot executing the same problem.

Under different types of internal and external faults of transformers, electrical quantities such as voltage, differential current and transformer oil flow rate change accordingly. In this paper, the variation law is studied, and the variation law of differential current and other electrical quantities under different types of faults and abnormal conditions inside and outside the transformer area is verified by simulation. The characteristics of faults inside and outside the area are different, and the faults inside and outside the transformer area are judged. At the same time, ANSYS Maxwell 3D, ANSYS Fluent and other software are used to model and simulate the transformer, and the oil flow rate changes under different operating conditions such as normal operation, external fault and internal fault of the transformer are analyzed.

This paper introduced Helbing’s social force model, modified it with game theory. Then how individuals in the space behave in dynamic non-cooperative games was described, different macro grouping characteristics were obtained. Individual behaviours at the micro level were simulated. Setting different parameters and conditions of the model, the macro effects of individual behaviours were observed. The overall behaviour of the system was studied. It could be used to guide the allocation of public resources.

This paper analyzes the feasibility of the application of GL Studio3.2 and Vega Prime2.2 software in combination, explores the application mode in the simulation system, and gives the call method of GL Studio3.2 control. Proposed by passing a pointer address way to deliver complex data types, with the method of window messaging to avoid the waste of time slices, with the method of thread messaging without window messaging method of thread.

The paper presents a hydraulic transmitter receiver system which is characterized by the ability to remotely send information utilizing a single hydraulic line. The system was subject to computer simulation in the software Fluid-SIM Hydraulics, and based on the obtained measurement results the influence of the parameters of its components on the correct operation of the entire system was determined.

Civil aviation is driven nowadays by exceptional growth in the number of passengers. It should double or even triple by 2050 and thus, all industrials also plan to double the number of device delivery by mid-century. Responsible for about 2% of carbon dioxide on the planet, they must now deal with the environmental issues facing the sector. At this moment in the world, several lines of research focus on increasing the efficiency of aircraft engines, development of new engines, efficient technologies, sustainable sources of alternative fuels and improved management air traffic on the ground and in flight [1]. The present work deals with a research focused on the engine test when passing in review in repair facilities. This operation which consist in making engine running while the cycles to test its performance in a test bench are studied to define a technological solution to reduce CO2 carbon footprint of the aircraft engine in this phase of the cycle of life. The idea is to produce electrical energy during these tests. To achieve this, we will highlight the case of a type bench facility for a specific airplane engines. As a result high-performance analysis tools are implemented to define the most suitable technological solution that ensures maximum efficiency, meets the functional and regulatory requirements taking into account the force of integration with the existing and cost optimization. In this paper we present the summary of the working definition of the research process for the final term set in the operating environment integration relevance that provides bench test and level of innovation that provides the methods selected.

Computer-aided design is now the primary design tool, providing opportunities for improving project quality, allowing for in-depth analysis of the specific features of the solution. In the methodology, computer simulation applications were used. Computer simulation aims to reconstruct the course of the studied process from its mathematical model using a computer and to examine the influence of the environment (input signals) and the internal properties of the object (process parameters) on the characteristics of the object. In designing the shredder, in addition to the selection of structural features, it is also possible to perform strength and kinematic simulations, resulting in a higher quality of the target solution. The results of the simulation work presented in the paper indicate a wide range of possible applications - also in the field of food engineering and processing of polymers - eg shredder mechanisms. Particular attention has been paid to the reduction of energy consumed by the deformation of samples, eg by pre-compaction of sample before introduction to the working area of the shredder. It has been estimated that the gap between the rotating discs should be minimized. Establishing design guidelines has resulted in a number of concept designs.

The paper deals with squeeze casting technology. The influence of process parameters variation (casting temperature, mold temperature, pressure) will be observed. The experimentally obtained boundary conditions (heat flow, HTC) will be verified using the ProCast simulation software. Shape influence on the mold filling process and the temperature field under pressure will be evaluated. To evaluate the mechanical properties, a tensile test was performed. Three identical samples were cast for each parameters change. From these samples the average values of the mechanical properties were measured and calculated. The thickness of the flat test samples was 3.15, 4, 5, 6.3, 8 mm with a sample width of 10 mm. For gravity cast of the casting, the mechanical properties of the thinner parts were higher. At the pressure influenced castings, the mechanical properties were higher in the thicker parts of the casting.

Laser engineering net-shaping (LENS), based on directed energy deposition (DED), is one of the popular AM technologies for producing fully dense complex metal structural components directly from laser metal deposition without using dies or tooling and hence greatly reduces the lead-time and production cost. However, many factors, such as powder-related and laser-related manufacturing parameters, will affect the final quality of components produced by LENS process, especially the powder flow distribution and thermal history at the substrate. The powder concentration normally determines the density and strength of deposited components; while the thermal behaviours of melt pool mainly determines the cooling rate, residual stress and consequent cracks in deposited components. Trial and errors method is obviously too expensive to afford for diverse applications of different metal materials and various manufacturing input parameters. Numerical simulation of the LENS process will be an effective means to identify reasonable manufacturing parameter sets for producing high quality crack-free components. In this paper, the laser metal powder deposition process of LENS is reported. The gas-powder flow distribution below the deposition nozzle is obtained via CFD simulation. The thermal behaviours of substrate and as-deposited layer/track during the LENS process are investigated by using FEM analysis. Temperature field distributions caused by the moving laser beam and the resultant melt pool on the substrate, are simulated and compared. The research offers a more accurate and practical thermal behaviour model for LENS process, which could be applied to further investigation of the interactions between laser, melt pool and powder particles; it will be particularly useful for manufacturing key components which has more demanding requirement on the components’ functional performance.

Induction heating is one of the most popular metal heating technologies because of its high heating rate and high energy efficiency. This method is suitable for heating workpieces/blanks in different shapes, sizes and materials. Induction heating of metal sheets has been investigated by various research organizations and industrial companies. However, information concerning the induction heating of aluminium blanks is limited. Further, investigations were required by industries to address the issues relating to the uneven temperature distributions developed in the metal sheets so that an optimized design could be developed to help the enhancement of the technology. Aiming at the study of the induction heating process for hot stamping, especially the temperature distribution developed in the aluminium sheets, this paper presents in-depth analysis of induction heating using 3D FE simulations, involving uses of DEFORM and COMSOL. Different coil arrangements, level of powers, frequencies, cycle times, etc. have been modelled and simulated to examine their effects on the heating efficiency and developed temperature profiles in the Aluminium sheets. It is revealed from the simulations that design features in the induction coils like shapes of cross-sections and angles of coil corners affect the uniformity of the developed temperatures in the metal sheets. Heating with an optimized combination of the coil design and the power setting could help to achieve higher heating rates and temperature uniformity. Nevertheless, the application could be constrained by some practical factors.

This paper describes the position estimation of mobile robot by sensing caster wheel motion. A mathematical model is developed to determine the position of mobile robot by sensing the angular velocity and heading angle of the caster wheel. Using the established equations, simulations were carried out using MATLAB version 8.6 to observe and verify the position coordinates of mobile robot and in turn obtain its trajectory. The simulation results show that the angular velocity of caster wheel and heading angle calculated from the sensor output readings with the help of inverse kinematics equations matches well with that of actual values given as input for simulation. Simulation result of tracking rectangular trajectory implies that the path traced by the mobile robot can also be determined from the sensor output readings. This concept can be implemented on a real mobile robot for estimation of its position.

The automobile’s better performance of suspension system can improve good performance of power and mobility so that it has good driving operation, low vibration and low noise, comfortable driving environment. In this paper, the test to verify the simulation results of the damping characteristics by comparing the simulation external characteristics with the experimental external characteristic and analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of the simulation method.

The paper deals with the effect of the normal stresses on the predicted flow front during the filling stage of thermoplastic injection molding. The normal stresses are predicted using the non-linear Criminale-Ericksen-Filbey model (a variant of the second-order fluid rheological model with viscosity, first and second normal stress coefficients dependent upon magnitude of shear rate) incorporated into a comprehensive 3D simulation software for mold-filling analysis. The additional stress term allows the prediction of the so called ear-flow effect (melt racing on the edges of the cavity).
